Good find bro. This is exactly what we needed to cure the typing lag in browser. Thanks.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Bowser HD for pad is very good, i really love it...i tried it a little...and it is very good as if it wasn't a beta version. I decided to keep it instead of dolphin hd.
Yeah, definitely like this browser. Only problem I've seen with it is that it uses the mobile google for default when you search in the address bar, can't seem to find a way to change that.
alot snappier than the stock browser...hopefully they roll out w/ updates to make it more efficient.
Seems pretty good so far. Much less lag than on stock browser but its still there.
I like it alot, just having an issue with bookmarks, and the dolphin add on bookmarks to sd doesnt seem to be working with it, anyone else having that issue.?
Either way, using it as my main browser, having much Less lag than stock

After opening the dolphin browser app press the menu button in the bar below and press More. Select Settings > Dolphin Settings > User Agent and select Desktop. That should work.

This works for most sites, but some still load the mobile version. Google search is one of them; another is boston.com. this is one of the only problems I have with the beta.

I suppose I should clarify, even after you change the UA it appears that the search from adddress bar function is hardcoded to use the mobile google search. If you go straight to google.com, sure you get the desktop search, but sometimes it's just more convenient to use the address bar instead.
I can't seem to activate gestures, for some reason.

Click on the Play button in the top right corner.
You can now use your gestures.
To make changes, a menu screen will appear at the top.
Click on the mechanical wheel on the left side of the page.
Then go to Gestures.

Does anyone have a fix for the browser defaulting to mobile view and setting it to desktop view? i cannot find a fix to this in the settings. This wasnt an issue on the Evo.
it is very annoying to scroll down to the bottom of every page and click desktop view. some pages like ESPN do no even have this. Even after to select desktop it will go right back to mobile view if you move to another page within the same site.
I couldn't find this setting in the default browser either. Pretty sure there isn't a option to change the user agent in 2.1 stock browser.
You can always switch to Dolphin HD or xScope which allow you to switch user agents.

I'm in the same boat. On my rooted hero xscope browser with the user agent set to computer worked perfectly. On the epic you can set it to computer and it stills goes to the mobile sight. I really need to figure it out for ESPN. No fantasy football and this baby is going back to the store lol
Open the browser then type in about:debug and hit enter. It wont do anything after hitting enter but if you go into options you will now have a option to change the UAString from mobile to desktop. The option is at the bottom of the option list.
Have you tried opera mini?
Hey guys, I have been using the standard browser that is stock, and also been using skyfire.
How can i get he standard browser to be set up as a standard pc, not to view in mobile.
Also what browsers are everyone using?
for my second question? how do you close the apps that are running under the multitask. using he advancced task killer doesnt kill them.
i do have my tab rooted! running stock rom

Do a search with about:debug and I'll find ur answer aabout the mobile sites.
I use dolphin browser HD
And there is an auto taskkiller built in, you don't need to mess with ending running apps android is smart and will do this for you.

It doesn't kill these tasks. It keeps them running. Its a nice feature when um using the tasks.but gets annoying when in not using it

I like dolphin browser, but can't seem to get the back button to actually go back a page, is there something I'm missing?
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I have a lot of trouble with the back button in Dolphine too.. specifically if flash is involved on the pages, but not sure that has anything to do with it.
For the stock browser, type "Aboutebug" into the address bar, then check the browser settings.. There will be a new menu option called "Debug" where you can set the UAString.
HOWEVER. if the browser closes and your run it again, you have to do the "Aboutebug" again (but don't have to change the UAString). It seems to ingore the UAString unless you do the about:debug everytime you launch the app. You'll see what I mean after a few times. Just create yourself a bookmark to about:debug, so it's handy.
It seems the "tab history" add on for dolphin can be used as a work around to the back button trouble we are having, I had actually stopped using dolphin because of it, but I think ill use that add on and deal with it. I've had some issues where dolphin seems slower to load than the stock browser, but its silky smooth scrolling and extra tools (gesture controls especialy) make having to use the tab add on a worthwhile hassle.
I think ill make a gesture control for going back a page and see if that works any better

In Dolphin HD, I just tap the gestures symbol in the lower left corner and then draw a < on the screen. Works every time.

Multitasking is possible. You need to switch between apps using the third button from left on the lower bar. By using the first button ('back') or the second button ('home') the previous app doesn't close, but won't actively work either.
Stock As Desktop
To set up your stock browser to run like a Desktop Browser.
goto url
type about:debug then enter
then goto "settings"
then "Debug"
touch "UAString" and select Desktop!
I've never had a problem using the back button in dolphin.
Sorry if this has been posted before, but this worked for me pretty well... just type
about:debug
In the address bar. Now go to "Settings" in the tool menu, go to the Debug option, and DISABLE "Use Wide Viewport".
This gave me a huge rendering-speed increase (while slightly lowering font size). The only option I have enabled is "OpenGL rendering".
You might have to restart the browser for it to work; enabling and disabling OpenGL resets the engine and seems to work too.
[EDIT]
You're supposed to DISABLE it if it's enabled by default on your custom ROM.
[EDIT2]
Sometimes the settings turn off automatically, probably a browser restart. I left mine in sleep overnight, and when I woke it up, pages were rendering slowly again. Enabling about:debug again fixed it.
Sounds like a good tip. Added to tips page.
that's enabled by default on mine.
I typed it and it just went back to my homepage... Nothing showed up in settings called debug.

It's via the browser settings menu not from HC settings, unless thats already where you are and not seeing it.
What does wide viewport actually do? Is it related to why reddit.com renders wider than the horizontal screen size?

It's just so that sites that can show up 'widescreen' versions of their pages show up correctly formatted on a wider screen.

This is default on my TF101 (Modaco Hr4)
Great tip! My browsing speed has increased noticeably.
Thanks.

Typing in the address bar didn't bring it up for me either..
great tip, i've been rooted from the get go and it's been on that by default for 2 roms i use.
if this is faster then i'd hate to see what default is like, lol.
thanks! the browser does seem to speed up much quicker. Also have plugins set to On demand.

didn't notice a speedup in the default browser, although now text was smaller (and basically required zooming in before being able to read) on some sites..
Might be because I'm using a hotel's slow internet though...

Not sure that this has done anything for me.
didn't work for me either. puts me back to the previous address.

You guys are going to the browser settings button up in the top-right after you type about:debug in the browser, right? Typing that in just opens up more options in the browser setting button, but does not auto-open the settings for you once you type it in.
I set this, and it does seem quicker to render pages.
Thanks for the tip!

Type "about:debug" into the address bar of the stock browser first. That will then open up the extra options in the browser settings menus.
I experience some problems while surfing. The standardbrowser crashes sometimes and websites automatically offer a mobile cellphone lay-out. Are these problems solvable, or do we have to wit for Android 3.1?
Yep, there's a thread somewhere here about making the stock browser load desktop versions of sites. Better still, download dolphin hd from the market, go into settings and change to desktop.
Write about:debug in the stock browsers searchfield then press enter. It will look like nothing happens. Then press the settings button in the top right corner and go to settings menu. You will find the debug choise. In there you will find the UAstring. Press that one and choose what you prefer.

How do you set the browser to only open desktop versions of a website? I can't seem to find the option anywhere
Type about:debug in browser. Nothing will happen. Then go into browser options and you should have additional options. Should be there.

So where would I find browser options. I've been in the browsers settings by clicking the upper righthand corner but that doesn't give me any compatible options before our after doing the debug

when you go to the settings after applying the command of about:debug, you will see on the bottom "debug" in the settings under advanced. Once you go there, click uastring. Change it from android to desktop. This will tell websites you visit that it is a desktop and not a android device and thus load the full page, not the mobile version.
But it isn't permanent.
Going through about:debug became such a hassle on my zoom that I'm using dolphin HD full time now. Just have to get your bookmarks in the stock browser so you can get the cool scrolling widget and set dolphin as the default browser.
