Sorry if this has been posted before, but this worked for me pretty well... just type
about:debug
In the address bar. Now go to "Settings" in the tool menu, go to the Debug option, and DISABLE "Use Wide Viewport".
This gave me a huge rendering-speed increase (while slightly lowering font size). The only option I have enabled is "OpenGL rendering".
You might have to restart the browser for it to work; enabling and disabling OpenGL resets the engine and seems to work too.
[EDIT]
You're supposed to DISABLE it if it's enabled by default on your custom ROM.
[EDIT2]
Sometimes the settings turn off automatically, probably a browser restart. I left mine in sleep overnight, and when I woke it up, pages were rendering slowly again. Enabling about:debug again fixed it.
Sounds like a good tip. Added to tips page.
that's enabled by default on mine.
I typed it and it just went back to my homepage... Nothing showed up in settings called debug.

It's via the browser settings menu not from HC settings, unless thats already where you are and not seeing it.
What does wide viewport actually do? Is it related to why reddit.com renders wider than the horizontal screen size?

It's just so that sites that can show up 'widescreen' versions of their pages show up correctly formatted on a wider screen.

great tip, i've been rooted from the get go and it's been on that by default for 2 roms i use.
if this is faster then i'd hate to see what default is like, lol.
thanks! the browser does seem to speed up much quicker. Also have plugins set to On demand.

didn't notice a speedup in the default browser, although now text was smaller (and basically required zooming in before being able to read) on some sites..
Might be because I'm using a hotel's slow internet though...

Not sure that this has done anything for me.

You guys are going to the browser settings button up in the top-right after you type about:debug in the browser, right? Typing that in just opens up more options in the browser setting button, but does not auto-open the settings for you once you type it in.
I set this, and it does seem quicker to render pages.
Thanks for the tip!

Type "about:debug" into the address bar of the stock browser first. That will then open up the extra options in the browser settings menus.

There's a dedicated option to switch mobile view on and off.
have you tried about:debug
about:config gives me a white screen
about:debug gives me my homepage which is google
Once you type the appropriate command in the address bar hit the menu button > settings> then scroll down to UAS string.
You will not get any kind of notification that you did anything in the address bar after hitting enter.

Crap, this is it, I was thinking of Firefox!
How do you set the browser to only open desktop versions of a website? I can't seem to find the option anywhere
Type about:debug in browser. Nothing will happen. Then go into browser options and you should have additional options. Should be there.

So where would I find browser options. I've been in the browsers settings by clicking the upper righthand corner but that doesn't give me any compatible options before our after doing the debug

when you go to the settings after applying the command of about:debug, you will see on the bottom "debug" in the settings under advanced. Once you go there, click uastring. Change it from android to desktop. This will tell websites you visit that it is a desktop and not a android device and thus load the full page, not the mobile version.
But it isn't permanent.
Going through about:debug became such a hassle on my zoom that I'm using dolphin HD full time now. Just have to get your bookmarks in the stock browser so you can get the cool scrolling widget and set dolphin as the default browser.

Good find bro. This is exactly what we needed to cure the typing lag in browser. Thanks.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Bowser HD for pad is very good, i really love it...i tried it a little...and it is very good as if it wasn't a beta version. I decided to keep it instead of dolphin hd.
Yeah, definitely like this browser. Only problem I've seen with it is that it uses the mobile google for default when you search in the address bar, can't seem to find a way to change that.
alot snappier than the stock browser...hopefully they roll out w/ updates to make it more efficient.
Seems pretty good so far. Much less lag than on stock browser but its still there.
I like it alot, just having an issue with bookmarks, and the dolphin add on bookmarks to sd doesnt seem to be working with it, anyone else having that issue.?
Either way, using it as my main browser, having much Less lag than stock

After opening the dolphin browser app press the menu button in the bar below and press More. Select Settings > Dolphin Settings > User Agent and select Desktop. That should work.

This works for most sites, but some still load the mobile version. Google search is one of them; another is boston.com. this is one of the only problems I have with the beta.

I suppose I should clarify, even after you change the UA it appears that the search from adddress bar function is hardcoded to use the mobile google search. If you go straight to google.com, sure you get the desktop search, but sometimes it's just more convenient to use the address bar instead.

Click on the Play button in the top right corner.
You can now use your gestures.
To make changes, a menu screen will appear at the top.
Click on the mechanical wheel on the left side of the page.
Then go to Gestures.

Hello,
I remember there was a solution how to convert standard Acer browser from mobile to regular, but cannot find that.
Anybody helps?

IIRC there is a button to click "Desktop Sites" within Browser in the settings. I generally just use Firefox.
Sorry if I'm mistaken.

Actually found the proper way of doing it!
1. Open the Android Honeycomb browser on your tablet.
2. In the address bar, type: about:debug and press enter.
3. Now open the browser's settings by tapping the icon in the very top-right corner of your screen (it looks like four horizontal lines) and selecting "Settings" from the drop-down menu that appears.
4. On the left side of the screen, tap the section labeled "Debug."
5. On the right side of the screen, tap the item labeled "UAString," then select "Desktop."
6. Press the back button (in the very bottom-left corner of your screen) to exit the browser's settings.
7. In the browser's address bar, type: about:debug once more; this will disable debugging mode and return the browser to its normal state.

Excuse my ignorance, but how does this differ from just touching the menu tab in the top right corner, settings, advanced, viewing mode, & selecting desktop?
I don't have that in the settings on ICS...

It's even easier in ICS. Open Browser, then when you press the menu button on the top right, one of the options is "Request Desktop Site". When you click it, it will permanently resolve itself as a non-mobile browser to all sites until you return to the menu and click the option again.

The above for me is only slightly true. Some sites i visit will reset this. I Found myself going back in there several times yesterday and toggling this back to desktop. Not sure if its just me experiencing this. But still Its not like its a complicated difficult thing to do.

This shows how to gain access to the Android Browsers debugging, which has more options than the standard options. The UA string is the user agent string websites look for when determining which website to send you to, desktop or mobile. Changing that setting allows you to permanently set the browser to desktop mode.
This trick also works on ICS and is more permanent than clicking "Request desktop site"
If running ICS, try using ICS Browser+. Contains all the goodness of the ICS browser, but let's you set the viewing mode to tablet or desktop. Nice!
Chrome Beta runs desktop versions usually, unless there's a site that blocks it.
i now default to ICS browser+ it's pretty great.
Everytime I open the browser it's dim. I open then menu and change it from "Level 3" to "default." However, the next time I open the browser, it's dim again. Somehow it resets itself to battery saver level 3. Does anyone else get this problem or know how to fix it?
Edit:
Nevermind, I fixed it. There's a Power Saving menu in the main phone settings that affects this. Turn off the Background Color option and you won't have this problem.
Feel free to delete my thread. Or leave it. w/e
When you say that you opened the menu, was that menu in the browser or in the actual phone settings? I'm asking because I can't seem to find the settings for just the browser itself. I'm probably just being stupid, but when I press the menu button while on a Web Page, I do not have the option to go into the browser settings.

You hit the phone's physical menu button while on a webpage and one of the options there is "Brightness and Colors." That's the menu that lets you select power saving levels 1 through 3 or deafult. I just wanted mine on default. It wouldn't stay on default until I turned the Background Color setting off in the Power Saving menu in the Phone's main settings.
Can you send me a screen shot? I did exactly what you did and I do not have that option in my browser. In fact, I'm not sure if this is just a problem with my phone or with all att S3's but I'm missing some settings options. For example, if I go into the display settings, I am unable to change the contrast like I have seen in reviews if the international version of the phone.
Do you have these problems too?

Scroll the menu that pops up in the browser, there are more settings...
Also look in your main settings under power saving. It messes with your browser brightness/color as well
