Yes, when you connect remotely to an exchange server, you are using outlook anywhere
just enter the server name and your login (and perhaps add the domain before the "\").
Works fine here with Exchange 2003 (ugh yes, but I'm updating soon )

Thanks, I will test this night.

"Outlook Email"... what's the point?

Maybe I'm really thick & am missing something here, but what's the point of the "Outlook Email" in WM5?
OK, so it syncs with Outlook on the PC using ActiveSync, fine... but it can therefore only send/receive email when the device is connected & synched to the PC. Although the emails from the PC's Outlook copy over to the device, you can't reply to them with the device when the device is not synched to the PC.
If my XDA Mini S is connected & synched to my PC, I'm not gonna use my XDA to reply to emails, I'd use my PC!
Away from the PC, you can download pop email to a different account on the XDA, but... that account can't then be synched with the PC, only "Outlook Email" can be synched, & it can only be used when synched.
Err...you know you can sync with the server wirelessly via GPRS, EDGE, whatever, right?
Its pretty worhtless unless you use push. Atleast as far as I am concerned. It would be nice if it integrated it with your current pop3 account.
i used to think exactly that untill i changed my work over to use an exchange server then it really comes to life. they should creat a cut down program that lets you sync your desktop outlook over the net imo. then every home user could have push email.

Besides using an Exchange Server, as others have pointed out, bear in mind the same WM OS is also used on non-phone Pocket PCs. In the "good ol' days" you sync'd your PPC in the morning, read and replied to your e-mails on your PPC "on the go" and the next time you sync'd, the (as yet unsent) replies you'd composed during the day would transfer to your desktop PC and get sent by (desktop) Outlook.
If you don't use Exchange, then the Outlook Mobile e-mail box is probably useless to you unless your e-mails are non-urgent enough that you can wait until your next sync before your replies are sent, and your GPRS data charges are punitive enough to justify waiting. I have an unlimited data plan so I now use my Wizard as my primary e-mail device and simply have my IMAP accounts setup on the Wizard and disabled e-mail syncing entirely. (Frankly, since Microsoft disabled desktop sync over wi-fi in WM5 I find myself syncing only once a day or two instead of the several times a day I used to sync my PPC 2K2 and 2K3 devices!)
Basically my desktop PC is now my e-mail "archive" since I'm far more likely to read and reply to all of my e-mail on my Wizard.

I guess i'm still living in the good ol' days because thats exactly what i do!!!
question if i may, how do i set it so it syncs the entire email and i don't have to click on "get rest of email" thing on the bottom?
I also sync my phone in the morning and reply to any overnight emails throughout the day, then sync when I get home from work...
Unless it's an important email, in which case, I'll use GPRS to send it from my mobile account.
Push emails from home PC
Hi Guys,
If you have broadband and leave your PC on almost constantly then this may be what you're looking for.
http://www.emoze.com
I haven't tried it yet as I've literally stumbled over it myself but from what I can tell it takes your email as you receive it from your home PC and redirects it to your pda.
I'll let you know if it's any good but it's totally free so check it out for yourselves.
Have fun
Terry
My outlook email syncs (pushmail) with my work-exchange server over gprs, only during working ours.
And for private mail I have a pop3 box checking for new mail every 5 minutes.
Works great!

Yeah, but how much data wil be used by your GPRS connection?
Pertinent connection for syncing and also popping you mailbox every 5 minutes will not be that cheap I think
p.s. Wie is je provider en hoeveel ben jij per maand kwijt hieraan ongeveer?
Does anyone else use IMAP to sync? I have IMAP for my home mail and Exchange push for work, seems to work OK. IMAP uses a lot more data though than ActiveSync, and seems a lot slower, and Desktop's Outlook's IMAP client leaves a lot to be desired, but it is an option, at least.
Don't use Exchange, so it seems like the "Outlook Email" account is fairly pointless for me.

On your desktop PC in Activesync, after syncing but while still connected, double click on "e-mail" in the main pane and an option menu should come up. You can set the size of e-mail to sync there.
Thanks for the tips
Thanks for the help

Online Sync Server

Does anyone know the name of any server software that works the same as MS Exchange.
I don't need Push email, all I NEED is the contact, calendar sync. email is optional but preferable. Sort of like ZYB but with email.
I don't mind if it runs or windows or linux as long as it just works.
edit: sorry, just realized this was posted in the wrong forum.
try mail2web.com that is essentially FREE exchange server online, will do all, including mail aggrigation, ie it'll collect mail from other email accounts aswell.
I signed up for that but the support over there told me there was no way to upload/import my contacts to my address book on their server. My contacts wouldn't sync automatically either so I closed my account over there.

You do have all your contact currently on your PDA isnt it? therefore by the first sync all your contact should be copied to server. sorry If I dont understand your problem.
no you're right bulldog, you understood my problem.
The contacts didn't sync though and when I spoke to support they made it seem like the contacts aren't supposed to sync.
What am I doing wrong??
Ok, found a way to upload the contacts but theres a 100 contacts limit and I've got more than 100.
So solution still pending...
i have a question about mail2web.com:
i have my account and i managed to enable an email filter from to provider acror to mail2web. also i let outlook2k7 to leave the messages on the pop3 server. so i could download all my mails onto my pc and onto my mail2web account.
i added the exchange server to my activesync on my htc prophet and it synced over air very fine. i get new mails onto my pc and onto my mail2web account.
but sadly it looks like this exchange server doesn't support html mails
i just get only normal text mail over the exchange server. did i something wrong, or does their exchange servers not support this WM6 feature?
to sort of solve my own problem.. Kerio Mailserver does everything exchange does.. just requires a small proggie installed with outlook

mail2web servers dont support PUSH HTML....just text... and kiero doesnt support HTML either...
Carnivore:
That's not a problem since its always on as it is! Plus, thinking of getting a VPS so thatll make life easier.
Shaile:
Are you using the free or paid version? I was experimenting with the free one and I couldn't seem to upload more than 100.
Walsh:
Don't really need HTML, nor do I want it. So kerio not supporting HTML is a feature if you look at it from my side =P
Mail2Web configure PDA
I read an article today about Mail2Web and wanted to try it before I recommend it for any of our users. The article said there was a configuration file/program - have anyone of you seen this file - or know how I configure a PDA towards Mail2Web ?
I haven't personally tried it yet...
http://www.funambol.com/opensource/
"Funambol is open source mobile application server software that provides push email, address book and calendar (PIM) data synchronization, application provisioning, and device management for wireless devices and PCs, leveraging standard protocols. For users, this means BlackBerry-like capabilities on commodity handsets."
I am using Kerio MailServer and it works great. No problems so far!!!
- TKN
Funambol isnt really compliant with any of the syncing standards.. Kerio looks like the best option so far as it works with activesync

Thanks dude this one is cool but this one is also not free service. even mail2web has closed free service. I am planning to host Funambol to serve free sync service.
Anyone interested?
Also you can use microsoft myphone service to sync contacts.
www.myphone.microsoft.com
But if you dont want to save contacts online the I guess PIM Backup s/w you can also schedule to take backup. And this even can take backup of mails, message.
Try Google sync
Try Google sync

nuevasync is the way to go
free service does calendar and contacts from google, premiums ($25/yr) does push email.
uses activesync/exchange

Touchflo 3D mail problem

Everytime i try to send/receive mail using the touchflo interface I get an error saying it cant connect because of my settings or other.
however using the same gprs data settings (which are turned on) I can connect to the internet using opera and update the weather so im presuming that there is nothing wrong wap settings i am using and so must be some other problem.
any help appreciated. thanks
Hello
I've met this problem. Here is my configuration :
I have an outlook / Microsoft Exchange server, and 3 imap mails.
Whenever I use send and receive for TF3D I get the same errot as you.
But when I select an Imap account, and do send/receive only in this account it works.
So I ended thinking that it was because the Outlook exchange failed. Which could be normal as I did WIFI on internet, and so not using the activesync to synchronise my mails on Outlook/Exchange servers.
I guess Exchange server cannot be accessible through internet.
Can you detail your mail accounts ?
i currently only have my yahoo address on my HD and havent synced with outlook.
Key kauka, I haven't been able to get my Yahoo working on my HD yet. Any tips?
Thanks

Have you paid for the Yahoo Plus service? Without it you wont be able to collect emails from the email tab.

ok i got it working and i dont have a plus account. all i did was delete the account and start again. then i manually added the correct POP settings, which i got off the net, and voila im done. i tried inputting the same settings into the already made account but it didnt work so making a new one is advised. also make sure that in the advanced server settings that both boxes for SSL are ticked.
hope it works for you too and good luck
I've got it working now. Thanks Kauka for the information.
By the way, I do not pay for a Yahoo! Plus account either.
Thanks again

Windows Exchange Server

Hi there
I used the search function but i couldn't find anything.
What I always missed on the Windows Mobile device is to use two exchange servers on one phone. I have my work exchange server and my private one. I always thought I cannot change that since it is not possible. But some days ago somebody at worked showed me that his Nokia phone which runs on symbian is able to do that.
I was wondering if there is any application or something else that makes it possible to have two exchange servers running on one device. The work one should just sync the E-Mails and Appointments, no contact.
Thank you very any information.
Yes there is... its call a Blackberry... bum ta bum... ok now with my joke out of the way...
Well, there is this one program... i can't promise its the best solution... but its called Funambol (funambol.com)... it is a free program that can sync with ur exchange email if i'm not mistaken... and the program creates a email tab (internet tab) on ur phone, but the program (cab file) itself u can change the auto sync settings on it...
it won't be a fast as exchange server directly but u gotta pic and choose ur battles... otherwise u need to hope someone figures out BB connect fast on the TP2

You actually CAN sync with more then one Exchange server on Windows Mobile, but there are some requirements:
-Server with email has to be configured LAST
-Can only use a service once (if you use calendar on one server, you can't sync another)
-Can sync a maximum of 4 servers, one for each service: contacts, calendar, tasks, email.
-Configuring more then 1 Exchange Server breaks ActiveSync, meaning you won't be able to run ActiveSync software on the PC. You will still be able to connect and view a device through other means, My Mobiler, through My computer, etc.
Make sure you have no ActiveSync accounts setup. Goto ActiveSync and manually create a server connection to your NON-EMAIL Exchange Server. Create your Exchange through mail setup.
I personally sync my calendar and contacts from Nuevasync.com and I sync my email from my works Exchang server.

If the requirement is to have Email from both accounts but just contacts and calander from one thani suggest you use Activesync and IMAP. Setup Activesync for one account and IMAP/SMTP for the other.

There is an application "CT Live Sync" may fit your need, but I never try that since my WLM is good for nothing but hotmail. Mind try it out and share with us your test result?
http://code.google.com/p/ctlivesync/
Later this year, Windows Live will turn on Exchange ActiveSync support. This will make it easy to sync with Android and iPhones.
Until then, you can't sync with Live other than POP3 access to your email. I simply setup a gmail account and import all the contacts over and setup Gmail server to fetech emails from my hotmail account and push down to my phone via GMail.
ok, thanks for your info, i guess i will wait until full Exchange ActiveSync support...
greetings...
