Pure Speed V8 Wifi issue - Droid Incredible General

I cold not post in the Development Forum so I will ask my question here. I loaded the July 18 version of Pure Speed V8 and it is a nice ROM. The only issue I have noticed is that the email will not send/receive with Wifi on. I can surf the web fine but just no connection to email. Can anyone suggest a way to fix this? When I turn off wifi, send/receive works fine with cellular network.
Thanks!

Relax dude..he didn't post it there..and as to the op sorry I don't use email that much so when I was on pure depredations I never got to use it and I just don't ever use wifi..but maybe try toggling wifi off then back on?
/Dinc

Its a known issue. Now, I don't use wifi but I have heard that you can get an app like tasker and just set it to automatically stop wifi just before sending a message and reactivate wifi right after the message is sent. maybe for now that would help you.

I can send/receive fine with only wifi on and 3g off...

Wifi calling

Anyone try out wifi calling/messaging yet? I just sent an mms and the "G" appeared even though the cell signal is off and it's supposed to be through wifi. It took longer than when I'm on 3G too...
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
i think the mms goes through a diff system when get home ill try it
I believe MMS always goes through cellular data.
This is to prevent an exploit of sending free messages over Wi-fi

Something came up for crackberry users that stopped them from using UMA and since WIFI calling hits the same servers as UMA, i.e... they are the same thing, I suspect that your issue might be the same as what they were having. Your ISP's DNS is blocking the service. If you can change your DNS settings to OpenDNS.com and give it another try. This may not fix your issue, but I know it did for a whole lot of crackberry users.

I get the same error message. Just got off the phone with a tmo rep and she said that there's a signal outage(?) around Atlanta and that's why I can't get ANY cellular connection whatsoever. But I remain skeptical, as my friends on TMO are having no problems and the "outage" just so happened to affect me right after the OTA was installed. My fingers are crossed that everything gets fixed though.
Mines works fine, it depends on what kind of network your on. On my campus it would not work, but when I got to my gf apt it worked perfectly. So check the wifi settings that you haveto make sure there isn't a firewall or something else set up.

Mine works on my college campus great. I have terrible coverage here. This may be a stupid question but, it only uses minutes when I'm actually calling someone right? Not however long it is enabled? I'm only asking because I'm tired of getting screwed over in ways that I logically shouldn't be.
Yea it only uses minutes when you are calling. Also I don't know what college you go but I go to umiami, so our networks are really strict with regard to using them for gaming or any kind of tethering. So I'm guessing they haven't allowed us access to do that here. But on any other networks like a home network it works perfect.

I go to Westfield State in MA. I had to get my phone registered on the resnet net work to use the wifi. Can you use wifi at all at school with your phone?

Crap. I just sorted out my issues with things draining the battery and now Wifi calling is running rampant. It stays running in the foreground even when it is turned off and logcat shows that it is constantly active even when the phone is asleep. Is anyone else seeing anything like this?
well i would like to know why its wifi calling if tmobile still use the mins from your plan thats like stealling it helps tmo they use less data but still charge us for it
Yea genius on their part...even still its not like they're not doing anything. It its still being runs through their network just not through their towers.

yea, what he said. Cellular towers are like a gateway to the Tmobile internet. The still pay for all the fiber and backhaul that gets your calls and data where ever it is that you want them to go.
i just updated and i opened up wifi calling and configured it. i dont understand how its wifi calling when it still uses our minutes? whats the point of having it then? what benefit is there to having this app?
Yea we can but we are literally forced to just web browse lol
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
T-mobile has had the "charging for minutes via wifi" policy now for YEARS going back to the first Blackberrys that supported UMA. Minutes were deducted unless a customer paid for the @home service per month. You can complain all you want, but if you consider the other carriers and their options---T-Mobile does NOT charge for HSPA+ (4G) access while other carriers do, and some charge even if there isn't 4G in that city just based on the phone! Wifi calling can also prevent you from incurring roaming charges by allowing you to make calls from almost anywhere you can get wifi access a feature that other providers just don't have. T-Mobile gives more minutes for less money, offers more data download than other carriers, and offers some truly awesome features that others just can't compare to.
Although WiFi calling uses up our plans minutes, if we have unlimted weekend minutes, use it on the weekends, is it free or does it take away from the anytime minutes?

WiFi

Excuse me if this was covered elsewhere, but I am fairly new (at least not a regular) and this is my first time using WiFi with a cell
I have hooked up my router to my puter
Is it right that the main benefits u would get with your cell would be the minutes don't come from your bucket, if you don't have unlimited, and also you get near cable-like speed on the internet?
Well, the first does not apply, I have unlimited
The second does apply....sort of. When I turn on the wifi the speed of the net iis great. IF I come back to it a short bit later, it seems to freeze there. I can type, but it won't move, I dont that it moves if I switch off wifi, back to hspa+.
I have to turn it off then on. Can anyone please explain this?
Thanks a lot
eric
Please note that T-Mo Wifi Calling does use plan minutes. You should explain the second issue in more detail. Does the phone show the wifi icon in the notification bar when its frozen?
Thanks for the first part
I guess it is different than that calling from Wi-Fi called U? or H?
As for the second part yes no Wi-Fi symbol is still On up top . Everything up here is exactly as it was a few minutes prior when I was able to use the Wi-Fi on the web . Again I am not very good at this I will give you any information you need but please be patient and ask me for anything You need
Thank you

Your wifi app is for calling only. If you want to use the web you connect to any wifi in your wifi settings. With your wifi calling, it does not use the web for anything but calling. Your regular wifi (what we used before they put wifi calling on some phones) is the only thing that connects to the web. Hope I cleared that up for ya!

Please post questions in Q&A section
Thank you whosdaman, and thanks for moving it/them if it was you that did that
it is quite ambiguous as to the difference in the two, not helped when there are other questions in the mytouch general section. ...but thanks nonetheless
while you were moving the thread, did you take time to read it and see if you can help with the , what is a prolly very simple question to you
if you can help, great. If not , np
eric
You're welcome, and yes I did
And no I can't...I have no idea
Thank you
So, when you say you have no idea. It is not typical for it to lock up if you use wifi for internet or is it not common, as in you have not tried the wifi for internet.
Thanks if you have time to answer. I know ur busy moderating the forum

Gingerbread wifi tether for root. DX

Has anyone noticed that if you try using wifi tether for root, it will enable both wifi tether for root and the built in Verizon wifi tether when you turn it on. Im stuck at work so I haven't been able to test tethering to see if it works or if it sends you to the Verizon sign up page.

My laptop isn't able to even connect. Im getting the same thing.
P.s. I also notice that the Verizon tether app tells you to sign up at att's website. I thought that was interesting.

Yeah I remember reading about the at&t mistype on a few of the blogs. Maybe wifi tether for root just needs to be updated for GB.

I can confirm that Wifi-Tethering works and does not send you to the Verizon sign up page. I'm on the Gingerbread pre-rooted.
That's good to hear. When you turn on free wifi tethering does it also turn on the built in tethering or no? Both icons pop up in my notification bar when I turn it on, I wonder if its just my phone.

Is there anyone else that can confirm that wireless tether works. Im still having issues. I get sent to the Vzw subscription screen even after cycling airplane mode on and off.

I am having the same problem.
Wireless tether and 3G Hotspot Icons both in the notification bar when I turn on Wireless Tether. When connected to my Xoom and open the browser I get the VZW notification page telling me that it costs $20/month. =/
A solution would be awesome.
If not it looks like I am gonna have to SBF back. Dammit man!!!
I am looking for a good thread on SBFing back, any suggestions?

There's an issue on the developer's google code page for Wifi Tether. From the log that's posted, it looks like one of the system calls was changed in gingerbread. (Just an observation from my limited knowledge)
I tried 3g Mobile Hotspot built-in app and my 3G icon just repeatedly disappears. After turning off Hotspot, I still don't have a connection and have to disable/enable radio to get it back or reboot.

In the log that's posted on the link I provided you see a lot of this:
Code:
getsockopt for multiport failed strangely: No such file or directory
It makes me think that something was changed in the system that causes it to start 3G Mobile Hotspot when firing up Wifi Tether. A little googling reveals this:
Code:
The getsockopt() function manipulates options associated with a socket.
So I'm guessing the appropriate sockets are not getting created or modified correctly for tethering to function properly and somehow the 3G Mobile Hotspot app is triggered. According to MDW and whatnot, the Hotspot app is supposedly prepatched but 3G drops repeatedly for me, so something is amiss. From what I can tell, 3G Mobile Hotspot is no longer an app even though it shows up in the App Drawer, if you try to remove it by dropping it on the trash on LauncherPro, it tries to remove Settings. It looks like tethering is just built in now.
I mostly understand what you are saying.
But my next question is how long til a functioning tether? Is it even possible since 3G hotspot is now built in?

I appreciate the response from both of you. I just wanted to verify if it worked or not. The roms awesome other no wifi calling feather.
The rom has voip its build in gingerbread since gingerbread has built in sip intergration which is more of a true wifi calling. The wifi calling app for tmobile isn't really wifi calling.

Issues with MMS reception while on WIFI with Android Messenges

I am on T Mobile and I have had issues receiving MMS messengers while on WIFI. Does anyone have a fix for this? I read previously that there was an APN setting to change but I am not sure. Thanks in advance! Also, this is using Android Messages (Stock APP).
Haven't changed anything and it's working on my end..also on T-Mobile...

I had the same issue and I am on TMobile also. If WiFi was on, I could not send nor receive MMS. I fixed it with this: https://support.t-mobile.com/thread/61843
---------- Post added at 09:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:36 PM ----------
Once I made the changes I was able to send MMS and receive them
I'm also on T-Mobile and was not receiving mms when on Wi-Fi, but receiving them fine. The problem was fixed when I turned off Wi-Fi calling. Hope that fixes your issue also.
I agree the problem is fixed by turning off WiFi calling, but WiFi calling is something I want to keep on

As with the MMS on Wifi .. the APN that the Essential pulls is not complete .. NONE of the 4 it pulls. I would go in and edit yours. The MMS while on wifi regardless of wifi calling on or off .. should be fixed with the proper APN. Remember that you should reboot after changing the APN. My wife's was having an issue with MMS and weird signal issues. I fixed her up with a proper APN. It's a pitfall of a non-carrier phone. My U11 suffered the same issues. Anyway. Give a proper APN a shot.
I did this but am still having reception issues as well as MMS issues
To clarify if you make this chnage to get it to work, you need "Cellular" checked under Wifi Calling. If you have WiFi calls as preferred it still does not work. These changes and that setting allow the phone to jump back and forth when needed, correct?

Sure it does. I just sent a gif from Gboard and a photo from my gallery to the wife and she's got an Essential on TMO. It works fine.
Again, a proper APN will make all this work properly.
What have those of you on Verizon been doing?
Hello - I saw this post while looking for an MMS solution for my PH-1 on AT&T. I have had Verizon, Sprint, Google Fi, and AT&T on this phone, and the only one that I could send/receive SMS/MMS was on Verizon while on my work network's WiFi. I work in a school building behind three layers of cinder block walls, and I have to have a way for this to work. I could go back to VZW, but I'm trying to avoid their high and not-unlimited Unlimited plans' rates. Can you direct me to the correct APN settings for AT&T? Thanks!
