From what I can gather,sd roms have better battery life? I unplug my device, 100% charged, then play music through the speaker with the screen off, for 40 minutes, and the battery is 50%.
I just bought an extended battery, 2600, and hope it helps.
Maybe setcpu will help?

Only 40 min? And your battery goes to half? I suggest using a NAND build.
Try using currentwidget on the android market and log your battery consumption values. I get around 100+/- mA with screen off(playing music).
I usually can get quite better battery life with NAND...
I always thought nand builds had better battery life?

Yes. NAND builds have better battery life.
I also recommend installing Juice Defender Ultimate for better battery life. I get one day of quite heavy usage thanks to it (and I have a fetish for screen brightness set for maximum all the time).
P.S.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1148578 . Great topic with many useful tips.

I have a dft desire nand running with magldr. Im having serious battery drainage. I let it die. Charged it. Let it die again and then charged it again. Even then the battery life is only around 3 hours and its down to 5%. I use it but the only things I use is facebook, xda and aim.
Any suggestions?

1. Try other builds.
2. How old odd your battery? Genuine?
3. Search and read up on this topic.
I decided to try setcpu. Which I downloaded here. Its helping some. Its been about an hour and its gone down like 5%. So thats atleast a little better. Im gonna mess with the settings and find something I like. Im do some more research too.

Have you tried turning off
Settings>Display>Auto-Rotate,Autobrightness
Settings>Location&Security>Use Wireless Network and Use GPS satellites
Settings>Accounts&Sync settings>Background Data and Auto-Sync
Settings>Mobile Networks> Data Enabled and instead of having 3G on set it for 2G
When I do this I can get a whole days use out of my phone and only turn them on when needed. Try that out and see if it helps bro
I didnt realize some of those were still on. I was pretty sure I shut almost all of those off but your post made me go check. Haha. Guess not. Thanks man.

Try other builds or you can also install Current Widget from market and view your mA useage, enable log and then you can keep an eye on it and see what the minimum useage is. It should be around 1-5 in standby, if not then you have something running that is eating up battery.
If it is at 1-5 mA and you still have battery drain then it could be your battery on the fritz.
Problem is that allot of people tend to stick them on charge before they are drained properly or also do not let it charge fully. Some battery type's have a sort of memory and if you dont charge/discharge properly it can affrect overall battery life.
There is MANY thrteads on battery issues but really this shouldnt be an issue anymore as majority of ropms have great battery life. Also remember that Android is a battery hog even on native devices.
So check out some threads and try some solutions.

Please don't let your battery discharge completely. If it does you will ruin the battery.

I don't doubt that at all after a 'few times'.
However, since I can't be arsed typing out my own explanation, how about I paste you one from the experts.
"Avoid completely discharging lithium-ion batteries
If a lithium-ion battery is discharged below 2.5 volts per cell, a safety circuit built into the battery opens and the battery appears to be dead. The original charger will be of no use. Only battery analyzers with the boost function have a chance of recharging the battery.
Also, for safety reasons, do not recharge deeply discharged lithium-ion batteries if they have been stored in that condition for several months."
Also:
"Unlike NiCad batteries, lithium-ion batteries do not have a charge memory. That means deep-discharge cycles are not required. In fact, it’s better for the battery to use partial-discharge cycles.
There is one exception. Battery experts suggest that after 30 charges, you should allow lithium-ion batteries to almost completely discharge. Continuous partial discharges create a condition called digital memory, decreasing the accuracy of the device’s power gauge. So let the battery discharge to the cut-off point and then recharge. The power gauge will be recalibrated."
So as long as you were hitting the 30-charge-and-dump schedule, you'll be ok.
Hey can someone please tell me in which rom the battery lasts longer???

I'm on stock 2.3.4 rooted, and I just put my phone on the charger with 14 hours since last charge @ 56% battery. It was light to moderate use, will let you know tomorrow if it was a fluke. Sundays are light days, but Monday will tell the truth.

my battery conservation method is simple:
- Turn on wifi and leave it on
- Set the phone to GSM only.
This almost doubled my battery life using stock HTC gingerbread.

Why would turning on wifi improve battery life?
The idle time on Unity is very good. I'm somewhere around day 2-3/4and just now getting to 50%
However when you're using it the battery tends to die pretty quick.
Pyromod! its amazing, I get about two days battery life.
I never worry anymore, If i'm going out of the house around 5 PM with 20 percent battery life, I'm good for the rest of the night and morning.

As is true with ANY rom you use lol.
Right now I'm using cm 7 and when its charged to 100 it stays in 100 for a long time than it drains pretty quick

That's how it is. The firmware interacts with the battery in a way that any % over 90% is considered a full charge, so sometimes this comes away with the phone sitting at 100% for a long time (up to like 2 hours for me if I don't use the phone much), then draining normally. It doesn't drain fast, it just drains fast compared to the battery sitting at 100%.

Not true. CM6 had a drain rate of 3%/h on idle with no connections and me popping it on once or twice an hour to get a text.
Cm7 was around the same. All stock clock with downclock with the screen off to around 500mhz.
Unity's idle rate is only about 1%/3-4 hours. It's insane.

No, I mean you clearly are going to drain fast when using a phone compared to idle.
And any ROM with a proper kernel can be undervolted / underclocked with apps to disable data in order to drain less battery in idle.

I can't tell if you're kidding or not, but the phones and ROMs I've seen all exhibit this behaviour. The OS will report the battery at 100% for a long time, as if the battery has more capacity than the OS knows about. A more accurate estimate would be to wait until you're at 99%, and then see how fast the meter drops. Better yet would be to use something like Current Widget or Battery Monitor Widget to record real-time current draw, then calculate how much energy has been consumed.
I wish there was a way to calibrate what "100%" actually means, but I don't think that is possible, since it is a hardware limitation.
Okay so I have an hd2 running android but my battery life is horrid worse than any phone I've ever had cleared battery stats and its horrible

its always had pretty bad battery life. You will struggle to get a day out of a charge, with even fairly low use.

Tend to disagree... choosing the right governor (hyper, smartass, performance, etc) has a major influence on battery life...
Witch depends on the kernel!
if you can buy from ebay serach this : GOLD 2430MAH HIGH CAPACITY REPLACEMENT BATTERY FOR HTC HD2 HD 2
its 2X of the origenal and its cust anly 11$ its a grate salution
you will defently make your day WITHOUT charging
You can always change the wireless settings to connect only to 2G networks, if you're not using much data. After doing this I can go two days before charging.

Guys my hd2 lasts for only 5 hours with the 1200 mah battery.i need a better battery and compatible with the existing roms.can somebody suggest a better battery and where can we get it

5 hrs of usage is very good for this phone. If its not 5 hours on standby, of course, which sounds ridiculous.
I would recommend Mugen Power 1500mAh battery. It does not promise 2300mah or so like most chinese nonames and fits inside without ugly hump.
Here is the link: http://www.mugen-power-batteries.co...585-1500mah-extended-replacement-battery.html
Try calibrating your battery, that might help.
Hi all,
Is it just me or is every rom(WP7, Android tytung GB/ICS & gbLeo) I tried have bad battery life?
25% of battery life down after 30 minutes with 3g on.
no,its just android sucking juice out of battery as quickly as possible.
android is crap on battery life, and has crap radio software that is a big step BACKWARD from winmo 6·5.even with big 2800 mah muggen battery i am lucky now to get 5 hours out of mine due to me using three network and their signal here is awful if i run phone on orange i get 8-9 hours use.

Hey bud I don't experience these issues with most roms. Our HD2 sense 3.5 Rom has amazing battery life. It is the T3D sense 3.5 Rom by sundawg who is our developer. I get around 36 hours normal use. I also use juice defender and swear by it. But by all means I have tried many other roms without that issue.

If 3G sucks in the first place, you can force Android to use only 2G. Since especially the automatic switching back and forth between both in a spot with bad reception seems to drain battery.
And I can second the assessment that Juice Defender is a good idea to keep the battery drain minimal.
