No recovery, No bootloader and can't SBF - Droid 2 General

Never mind this can be removed if necessary!
7/26
Well I need help again, so I figured I might as well use this post rather than creating clutter...
So my original help request involved my inability to get my phone into bootloader OR recovery but I eventually got it... I was trying to SBF back to Froyo so I can re-root and flash MIUI.
So I got all that done, but I seem to be having issues getting Clockwork recovery to stick around. After I recovered back to Froyo via SBF, I was able to download ROM manager and flash CWM recovery and then bootstrap it, reboot to it and flash MIUI. After MIUI boots up (runs great by the way, for those considering it), I installed ROM manager again but it said that I had no recovery (or stock) so I re-flashed CWM, bootstrapped it again and rebooted into recovery, only to find myself in the STOCK recovery...??? So without doing a THING in stock recovery, I hit reboot and now my phone is stuck at the Motorola logo and I am unable to reach CWM recovery to re-flash or anything. I cannot find another way to get back into my phone without an SBF back to Froyo, thus back to step 1.
Can anyone help me out?
Oh and I've already wiped data/cache with stock recovery - still no dice

See above post

I asked a similar question. It's a good thing I decided to wait until I got an answer before using ROM Manager. I am not sure why it did what it did.
I would also like to know the answer to your question.
edit: Perhaps (after you SBFed again) if you flashed CWM from Rom Manager but don't bootstrap? It seems like bootstrapping erases the ROM Manager's CWM and doesn't install the one it has. Just a thought. (If bootstrapping is important, though, then disregard this.)
Another thought. Bootstrap first, then flash CWM from ROM Manager. See if that works. Also try going to CWM through the bootstrapper, if you can't do it manually.
edit2: Just tried it that way (D2B first, RM second). worked like a charm. Was able to successfully update Miui.

Man, I don't get why these phones do some of the things they do...
I just SBF'd my phone again, re-rooted and re-installed MIUI and NOW, for some strange reason, I am able to make my way into CMW recovery.

[Q] myTouch 4G Recovery Issues! Please Help!

I checked through 100s of post tonight and could not find the answer to this and am in need of some help. I attempted to install a Cyanogen Nightly tonight through Rom Manager with no prior knowlege of the issues with CW 2.5 vs. CW 3.0. Stupid I know.
So natuaraly, when the download finished and Rom Manager tried to install, my MT4G just hung at the white boot screen. Through previous posts, the directions were simple to reflash the previous CW Recovery through Fastboot and reflash the Rom.
Well thats where the problem is.... When I attempt to flash ANY Rom earlier than 3.0.0.5, it will say OKAY in CMD, however the phone will never boot into the Recovery. I even tried fastboot erase recovery then reinstalled and still nothing.
So i decided to go a different root and reinstalled 3.0.0.5 to see if there was any work around through there. After i install 3.0 through Fastboot, I am able to go into Recovery, however when I select ANY option no matter what, the hat and the gear icon stay in the background and nothing happens.
I am very confused and lost and am hoping someone here will have had the same issue and can help me get my phone back in order.
Thanks in advance guys!

I havent had that issue exactly, but I might be able to help wlk you through getting this fixed. Ive had problems more than once myself on recovery, and helped a couple others solve other issues on here. If you want, add me on google talk (same username as on xda), and Ill walk you through it. Might have to wait till the morning, though, as Im probably gonna head to bed soon.
Fastboot 2.5 recovery and reflash froyo rom. If you decide to install CM7 again - read, search and make sure that you understand what you're doing. It has been stated at least few dozen times that Rom Manager is useless with gingerbread until Koush updates it.
Same Issue??
I believe my issue sounds similar.
I tried to go from Iced Glacier up to CM7. When I did I attempted to use the Clockwork Recovery 2.5 and of course it didn't work. Then I tried to upgrade it to 3.0.0.5. Now when I try to reboot into Clockwork recovery the phone just stays on the MyTouch 4G splash screen. The only way to get around it is use the Power/Volume down button and click on FASTBOOT and then select REBOOT.
The phone then boots in Iced Glacier. I have redownloaded ROM Manager and attempted to FLASH CLOCKWORKMOD RECOVERY. But it still won't load into recovery.
Essentially I need some step by step help to get back to clockworkmod recovery. I'm not too worried if I need to wipe everything. Just looking for the ability to restore again.
Alternatively I'm interested in upgrading to CM7 but not sure how I could do that without recovery working. I would also ask if you can give step by step instructions it would be much appreciated as I'm still pretty new to this.
Thanks!
I also have the similar problem. I have installed the Clockworkmod 3.0.0.5 and have rooted my phone before i was trying to install the gingerbread version. I made a recovery backup. i tried to restore the phone with that backup image but it still hung up with that "t-mobile mytouch " white splash screen.
What should i do now ? i have no idea how to bring my phone back to life :/

Sounds like both of you should of never of done this. This has been discussed a few times, and the end result is always the same.....
Download the correct Recovery image (which can be found in the Development section) and install it to your phone by using the ADB commands, in the fastboot mode. you can find a quick and painless way to set those up in my signature. Once you have installed the recovery image you can boot into hBoot and select recovery. from there you can flash CM7 and the gapps. Once you have done all that download the official clockwork ROM manager from the market and flash his current recovery image.

Question about ROMs and Recovery

I have the recently released leak installed on my phone. I had a lot of problems getting there so I hope you all can be of some assistance.
First problem, when i try to reboot into recovery mode after I've pulled the battery it ALWAYS goes into the standard Android recovery and NOT clockwork. I can only boot into clockwork from ROM manager. Is this normal?
And secondly, this is for future reference when I want to install new ROMs. Everyone suggested that I wipe my phone before I put the new ROM on, which I did. Unfortunately this caused my phone to become unrooted, and I had to spend a little more time getting it rerooted. There was a lot of work to be done. Is this the usual course of events people go through to install new ROMs?
Thanks so much in advance, I really appreciate this community's helpful patrons.
I just put the recommended update.zip file in my root.
If I click install update.zip from the default recovery will it bring me into clockwork recovery?
Is that what I'm missing?
Yes, installing update.zip in standard recovery will lead you to clockworkmod recovery. But if you haven't installed clockworkmod properly, update.zip will fail to load clockworkmod recovery.
Wiping roms doesn't unroot your phone, so maybe you did something wrong before?

Are you sure wiping doesn't unroot?
Does it remove the superuser app at least?
When I first wiped everything I lost EVERYTHING on my phone and it went back to as if I had just bought it.
I then went through the reroot process so I could get ROM manager back to boot into recovery mode (because I didn't know about update.zip before).
Anything I'm missing?

Help rooting phone. Trouble getting green recovery screen.

So I rooted my friends Vibrant last night. I rooted my Vibrant a few months ago and didn't run into this issue. But I rooted using the same program "Vibrant One Click Root/Unroot" and followed the same steps as I did when I rooted my phone. However, once I installed ROM Manager and installed Clockworkmod Recovery and booted into recovery and clicked reinstall packages, the phone just rebooted. I remember when I rooted my phone when I clicked reinstall packages it did its thing, then went back to the blue recovery screen. Then I clicked reinstall packages again and it took me to the green recovery screen where I was able to then install zip from sd. My friends phone just keeps booting to the blue recovery screen where I can only reboot now, reinstall packages, clear user data, and clear cache. He had to leave so I did not have time to troubleshoot.
Any ideas as to if I missed a step? Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Sorry for the n00bish attitude, if this was my phone, I would put a little more effort into finding the answer. I'm just trying to get this done as soon as possible.
Are you using the actual clockwork app to boot into recovery? If so id just go back to stock and redo the root

Yeah, I went into ROM Manager and clicked "boot into recovery". Where it brings me to the blue recovery screen. So you think I should unroot then re root? Because everything with the root seemed to work fine. It installed superiser and I had no problems downloading Titanium Backup or ROM Manager and allowing superuser permissions. Which made me think I was just forgetting something...but I might just try that. Thanks!
if your rooting stock 2.2 your gonna need a modded 3e recovery or one of supercurios voodoo kernels with CWM & root already built in. Superoneclick will root stock 2.2. If its 2.1, then you may need to hit reinstall packages a couple of times to get it to take.

All you should need to do is hit reinstall packages again. When you do it the first time it will boot back into the same blue recovery again. Hit it once more then it should boot to the green recovery. If that doesn't work you probably have a bad zip file on the phone. In which case you'd re flash CWM again.
If you're not getting the superuser request when you flash CWM then root didn't take. Make sure root works first.
Did you actually run install cwm from rom manager so the update. zip is there?
Just make sure with Astro or another file manger that you have a .zip file and it should be 1.72 MB in size and you want that on your internal SD card....Then when you boot to recovery it should let you hit reinstall packages with no problem
I'm new here, but I have flashed 3 vibrants since last week. I had the same problem you did.
When I flashed my phone last week it was stock 2.2, so I had to flash the modified 3e recovery which fixed my issue getting into CWM to install my ROM. Today i was flashing a co-worker's vibrant who also was on stock 2.2. However, on his it would keep rebooting when reinstalling packages, even though i did the 3e recovery flash. I ended having to Odin back to 2.1 on his phone before i could flash the new ROM.
I just used AIO Vibrant Toolbox 2.5. Hope this helps.
Thanks for all the feedback!! I don't have the phone with me to check if the update.zip folder was for sure there. But if it is, I'll try reinstalling the packages again. Otherwise I'm just going to unroot and try rerooting with the AIO Toolbox. I'm not going to be able to do this until tomorrow though since our work schedules were pretty much opposite today. But once again, huge thanks to all of you!!! However I've never unrooted before...if I haven't flashed any ROMs, I shouldn't have any problems should I? Just click unroot?

brick Nexus S

Hello. i am new to the android family
i have a nexus s GT-9020T
i have rooted my phone but without setting the clockworkmod reovery.
today i was playing with the rom manager and downloaded one of the rom from the list. after installation i was unable to start the phone only seeing the google logo with the unlock logo.
i went back into the recovery by typing flash recovery recovery.img etc.
run a restore and restart the phone but still not work
my nexus s is 2.3.4 by the way.
please assist
What "restore" did you run?
Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056062
And download the full rom:
Model: i9020T
Full Rom: GRJ22, KD1
That'll revert your Nexus S to the latest completely stock 2.3.4
Then you can flash recovery again and go back to clockwork mod and go flash another rom or whatever.
Remember when you're flashing a new rom you need to wipe data and cache and dalvik cache.
i run an restore from the backup that i made before installing the new rom using clockwork mod recovery, its part of the option when installing the rom using the rom manager * click box - backup * etc something like that

Next time don't use Rom Manager to make backups or flash roms. It's stupid and can get you issues like you're having.
Anyways, try wiping data and cache then restoring the backup, do it in Clockwork Recovery.
Let it boot, first boot always takes a while, 5-10 minutes. If you see the boot animation freeze, stop and restart, then yeah it's screwed up, otherwise, just let it is.
If still not working from your backup, do what I said in previous reply, just restore to stock 2.3.4 then re flash clockwork mod and start over with the rom you want to flash.
thank your nxt. i have found the real problem. it was not my backup problem or the rom that u provided. it was the version of my clockwork mod recovery. i was using an 2.x.x.x to restore the phone which is why it doesn't work. everything work fine now after i flashed with an 3.x.x.x and restore the phone. one question thou, where can i always find the newest clockwork mod recovery release ? thank you very much

Or just use ROM Manager to get the latest.
That's the only thing I use ROM Manager for... getting the latest Recovery.
thanks again nxt. if you don't mind really ...i have one more question. i know the phone intend to uninstall clockwork mod recovery once its restarted. i know there is command type into the cmd to avoid the phone uninstall the clockworkmod reovery and make it permanent in another word. I didn't run those command when i root my phone because i don't know if its good to make it permanent like.... hmmm like if there will be a 2.3.5 coming next month..just saying ok... with a permanent unofficial recovery will cause a problem?

Are you running custom ROM? If you are, it's already made to not revert back to stock recovery. If you leave it stock recovery you'll get notifications for firmware updates by Google, but remember that applying those to a rooted phone might screw things up too.

Don't remember. It should only have like 3-4 options.
thanks again nxt. no i am not running an custom rom. i mean not yet. i planed to try one from the rom manager download section then my phone couldn't start after installation and now i have restored my phone from my backup using the clockwork mod recovery 3.x.x.x.

having issues after bootloader unloack, and root

this morning was dead at work, so i decided to go ahead and tinker with my phone. i was on 1.8.3, rooted, and running gingerblur 4.5.
i followed the instructions for the bootloader and root, everything went smoothly updating to 2.3.4 at first, but it doesnt seem to hold root. superuser kept corrupting, then when i got that settled, CWM started hanging up, and now when i try to use that, i get an error saying the path is null. aaaand now superuser says my su binaries are out of date. anyone have any idea? i tried searching, but couldnt find anything relative to my problem...
EDIT: super user is jacked up again.. so basicly my phone wont hold root...
EDIT 2: my home key doesnt seem to do anything now either...
Sounds like you did a titanium backup restore on your phone? Try doing a factory reset and try re-rooting the rom you have and give it super user access. A factory reset should work.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
i didnt do a titanium backup... but i did just try a factory reset, and i think it bricked my phone... i have the little android guy standing next to the yellow triangle with an exclamation point... now what? lol

who's recovery/CWM are you currently using?
i had the latest of tenfars CWM, but like i said, it kept botching since root wouldnt stick
i seem to be able to access the CWM in android recovery mode though. should i try reflashing kenn's alien rom, or start from scratch with 2.3.4?
Try booting into fastboot mode and trying the command: fastboot -w
Then: fastboot reboot
Does it boot up now? Still have some more stuff to tell you.. just wanted to see if that got the phone booted first.

Yeah, but can you still put flashable .zip files on your phone, if you can't boot?
it booted up just fine, as if the factory reset did nothing. all my apps and stuff are still there, root still isnt working, and neither is the CWM app in the app drawer. so im not sure if i should try re-rooting again, or what to do. this is weird, i never had any issues fiddling with gingerblur or any of that stuff...

Ok, here we go...
1) Check to see if you have file "install-recovery.sh" @ /system/etc. If you do, delete it.
2) Uninstall Tefnar's CWM you have installed.
3) Download RomRacer's CWM/Recovery, and install via fastboot, or install via ROM Manager via the instructions in my N00B Guide thread.
4) Once you have RomRacer's CWM installed, boot into CWM and wipe dalvik cache, cache partition and format data.
5) Flash Alien ROM (not theme, just ROM). - Make sure to put this on you phone before booting into CWM and clearing everything; want to flash immediately after clearing things listed in step 4.
6) Reboot and see what you have and if everything is working correctly...
rom manager says i need root. which i dont have. i tried installing via fastboot, but couldnt figure it out. i cant remember if im supposed to use the command prompt, or rsdlite, rsdlite says the CWM zip isnt a valid compressed file...

Need to use command promt for fastboot... put RomRacer's CWM .img file in the same place as your fastboot files, and then type the commands in Rom Racer's OP, except if your using fastboot, you can ignore the "moto" part of the commands and just type fastboot ....
You need Romracer's fastboot file, which is on the left side... not the flashable .zip file which is for CWM.
you are my new favorite person in the whole wide world. its currently formatting, and i'll be sure to log on in the morning to post my results. but this is far enough for the night i think. im beat. thanks for ALLLL the help and patience!
Oh. I guess I should add this piece of advice since no one else has. Don't get bored at work and try flashing roms. You don't have recovery available or another rom available. I speak from experience.
I voided my warranty.
just wanted to say i have everything up and running. super fast, super smooth, and so far, no errors or issues. thanks alot guys!
