Hi, I have a couple of problems with my wifi connection, and I wanted to know if anybody else had these issues before calling t mobile about another warranty replacement. I'm running royal ginger 2.1, not over clocked or under voted at all, with the kernel that comes stock with this rom.
First issue, I'm getting
An iphone like "death grip" when holding the phone at the top, the way anyone would while using in landscape mode. the phone goes from like three bars wifi to none in a few seconds and the connection can drop altogether.
The second is a wifi sleep issue. When I press the power button to put the phone to sleep or standby or whatever it's called and leave it for maybe an hour or so, the wifi disconnects and may or may not reconnect when I wake it up again.
I'm going to make a video of both these things happening when I get home to illustrate the problems I'm having. Does anybody else get these issues?

I had signal problems holding near the top of the phone. Haven't noticed any bad drop in signal since I updated the radio. I'm not using the one from the tmobile update, its the radio from the panache. It fixed my GPS signal too.

I'm not having gps problems, but it seems that the sensation users all have this death grip as well. I suspect it is a hardware related problem, but I guess I'll try flashing a new radio. Thanks

On monday I got my G2 to replace my Samsung Vibrant (due to the Vibrant's GPS issues). I love the G2, but one thing is completely ruining the experience for me. At least two to three times a day my phone is rebooting on me or it will completely freeze where I have to pull the battery. It seems like my problem is kind of common. I was curious is anyone has found any way to fix the random reboots without actually getting a new handset? I just factory reset my phone hoping that it will be a little better and I will update this thread if it gets better. Is there anything else I can try?
One other thing I noticed is that when it randomly reboots it is only a soft reset and doesn't truly reboot. Sometimes after the soft reboot it will hide certain applications like they are not installed until I do a full power cycle reset. Once Angry Birds disappeared until I did a full power cycle and another time it acted like my dialer was deleted off of the phone and I couldn't even make calls until I power cycled. Every time after I power cycle everything shows up so it looks like the media scanning doesn't fully run or something?
I noticed it only does this to me when I have no service...

Well unfortunately I have no service at work. Also, on my way to work I have a small dead zone. It is just very annoying because it happens 2-3 times a day.

I have the same problem with signal loss (although my phone does not reboot, I just have to reboot to get signal back), only at home and on the way to work. I put my phone on 2G only at home (since signal sucks, not giving anything up) and on the ride (again, not using the phone for data so not giving anything up) and I don't have the signal loss problem at all.
Have you tried 2G only?
Throw your phone into 2 g. This should fix alot of reboot problems and signal drops. It fixed mine. I had the exact same problem after 27 hrs. Take it outta 2g if you know you'll be in a high speed network.

I'll try 2g over the weekend and see how it is. Thanks for the suggestion.

I heard to turn off the backup data and that gonna stop the reboot, I did it, and no more reboot for my g2
I sent both of my G2s back because of this issue. IMO "switch to 2G" is not really an acceptable fix... hopefully HTC issues an OTA for this soon.
Though I do not have this problem myself... Two things I have seen people try that helped:
Make sure you are using a new SIM card, and try a better quality Micro SD card than what comes with the G2. You never know...
Hope it helps.

Thanks to everyone who replied with suggestions. I seemed to have fixed my reboot problems by turning off the application backup feature. I am still using 3g data so far with no reboots or freezes in the past 24 hours. I have driven though my bad signal area that usually causes my issues at least 4 times so I am pretty sure it is fixed. If anyone else has turned off 3g data try turning it back on, but turn off application backup and let us know how it works for you.

I keep having a dropped data connection issue. Over the past few days it will randomly drop data where previously i would have around a 5mpbs d/l connection. Sometimes it will take me rebooting the phone to restore the connection. I am beginning to think my phone is having an issue. Has anyone else experienced data connection issues?
This is really annoying the hell out of me now when I have had no connection issues with this phone until the past few days.
I have had the same problem

Has anyone talked to tmobile yet about this? I am almost to that point.
I too have been having this problem but I thought maybe it was just because of the iced glacier rom...glad to know in not alone...
Please post questions in Q&A section.
I have this issue with my phone I would be connected to HSPA with full bars and tried to watch a YouTube video using the app and after a min it would stop buffering. This got me really frustrated as it has happened quite a few times I called T-Mobile and they are sending me a replacement as we speak maybe you guys should do the same
Seems like a phone call is in order.
I've noticed this too, in the last couple of days. It happened yesterday and today as well. I wondered if it was an issue with the radio and some ppp problems, thankfully today while I was at work I noticed that my phone dropped its data connection and I asked my co-worker to lend me his phone (same model) and his had no data connection either. I live in the Miami area, my guess was that T-Mobile is either expanding heir hspa+ network or just messing with their antenas. Let's hope that everything goes back to normal tomorrow otherwise I will have to make a call and figure out whats going on!
I just got my phone late last night, and the 4g network has been disconnecting me every 5-10 mins.
Same problem here.
Glad to hear that I'm not alone.

This is odd. The disconnections only appeared on the first day. It has been fine since then.
Yeah, this was happening to me too. Up until recently, my connection would be intermittent in my apartment, but solid when I'm out on the town. Thankfully now tho, its always solid at my apt. They were Prolly working on the tower by my apt cuz I don't remember doing anything different.

sorry to bump such an old thread, but didn't want to start a new thread for the same thing.
I am having similar problems with varying degrees on several different mytouch 4g's belonging to me/friends/family.
The data connection drops out occasionally requiring a restart to fix; phone calls still work. On most occasions, my phone in particular, loses data connection while I'm on a call, but regains it after the call ends. Is there a fix for this?
Thank you for bringing this back up, I noticed this has been happening to me too, it will lose data. I'll still be able to text and call but no data. If I go to settings, it says "turning on mobile data" and it stays like that until I restart.
Hi
I can tell that the phone is using wireless due to the speed. Its just a little annoying.
Anyone else have this issue?
Masters stock 2.3.3 deodexed (rooted) with Netarchy 1.2.7 cfs @ 1.2
the same thing it show before and after i root my NS
same here.
with 2.3.1 and now 2.3.3
Yeah it's happened to me. Just toggle WiFi off then toggle it back on.
Haven't had that problem. You should try flashing again. I just heard of that problem in 2.3.2

Its my understanding that this is as a result of an app which needs to use wireless data specifically from a mobile network so it momentarily turns the mobile data radio on and then turns it off when its done.
i have only google apps and the 3G was on and the wifi in the same time ....
I think this is the issue:

Star the issue and post in the thread - looks like Google are starting to show an interest in it.

I posted too. It's very annoying.
T
and I have another thing! when i want to start mobile data it just won't start. to solve it I have to reboot my phone!
anybody else getting this?
Nexus S, 2.3.3, gri40, Vodafone Romania!
Sometimes turning on airplane mode and then turning it off again starts the mobile data for me. Give that a shot Bikers.
Are you guys receiving an mms at the same time? On WiFi when receiving a pic message the phone is forced to use 3g data to connect to the carrier server over 3g only to receive the pic. This is the Only time I've ever seen WiFi and 3g at the same time.
This usually happens to me when my wifi is out of range

Up until yesterday I was running 2.3.2 with the XXKB3 radio. I updated to 2.3.3 and got the XXKB1 radio. As soon as I connected to wifi, I started to experience this problem with 3g and wifi showing at the same time. So, I decided to re-upgrade to.the XXKB3 radio and I no longer have the problem.
The instructions on how to upgrade your radio are in the development section. Its definitely worth a shot. Yesterday I was not only losing wifi, but my 3g was going out also and I had to reboot my phone to get my 3g working. That doesn't work for me.

how long do both icons display together? is it only for a few seconds, or do they stay on indefinitely? if only a few seconds, it could be a wifi bug where its disconnecting then reconnecting in the span of a few seconds, so in between the 3G kicks in only to turn back off when wifi reconnects.

It is sporadic. Sometimes it comes on every 30 seconds or so then turns off. Other times, it is on indefinitely..
I read some where that having "supl" in your APN settings under APN Type might be doing it. maybe check that?
Got my phone two weeks ago and I'm getting a problem with my search button. it keeps going off by itself like some one is pressing them and the speak now screen come up.
Any one else here having the same issue? Theres people in the internet also having the same problem but so far no answers.

I have this problem too but it only seems to happen intermittently when I am in an area with a poor signal (1 or less bars).
I've also taken to restarting my phone every day or two and It hasn't happened in awhile.
I had this problem with mine and when I looked it up it seemed I wasn't the only one. Most people seemed to think it was a hardware issue. I exchanged my nexus for a new one and the problem is gone so I guess it was hardware.

I got fed up so I called in for a new one sent to me. I hope this one is problem free!
It happens randomly but yes it seems to happen more when the signal is low.
I may have found the problem but not a solution. I noticed when playing with the phone that its always in Roaming mode. If you go to:
Settings>Wireless & Networks Settings>Mobile networks>
you will see that the "Data Roaming" feature is ENABLED which I believe has to be on since the phone is unlocked and you wont get data service if that is not enabled(for me anyway). Try Disabling this feature and just connect with a Wi-fI and play around with the phone. See if the issue still occurs. Mine stopped with this feature disabled and only comes back when it is enabled. The phone however is useless if this feature is not enabled if I'm not around any wi-fi.
Let me know if I'm right. Maybe someone good can create some sort of fix. looks like a software/program issue?
Having the same problem with my Droid X. Seems to be a software issue that is affecting Nexus S phones in Canada most severely, but also Droid X phones in the USA.
I'd include the link to the Google support forum thread but I'm too new of a user...

Its not tied to roaming but to 3G. In your case turning roaming off turns of 3G.

Had the problem last year on stock gingerbread with radio KB3, seemed to go away when fiddling with radio settings.
Have it again this year with ICS. Using radio KB3.
Notice when travelling in/out coverage zones. (Right at the edge, when coverage is weakest.)

Supposedly a fix here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1815071
It doesn't provide a fix for us but there is a whole solution thread by the Samsung Fascinate section that seems to work!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1551580
Since one of the solution is a kernel fix, maybe you can get one of the nice kernel developer to look at it to see if they can include it within their custom kernel
My 3g service consistently turns off and doesn't work even when I am definitely in a 3g area. When it goes away I have to restart my phone and it fixes it. Kind of annoying though. Anyone know what is wrong. Non rooted stock ns4g

I have the same issue. Reboots are the only cure. Im sure its a hardware issue, Ive sent mine back to Samsung twice but all they do is flash it back to 2.3.3.
Let me know if you find a solution!
You should read some of the many threads on radio (3g/4g/WIFI) issues with this phone...

instead of rebooting, just put it into airplane mode then back.
