Great tutorial
dead link
the new link you are providing goes to a dead page... and my atrix wont go into recovery when i hold down buttons either way... what can i do?
Hi, a friend has one of these and I'm trying to help him root/custom rom. I used the Droid X Boot strap from market after the root. I can get to CWR from the bootstarp but how do I get there from power off mode? (for example In HTC Thunderbolt it's power and volume down)
Also, can/should I use rom manager after boot strap?
I'm using Liquid's latest but very buggy, SD card won't get recognized. Any suggestions on the most stable rom (preferably AOSP)
Check my sig for an extensive Droid X Specific How-to.
Getting into CWM from power-off isn't available on 1st init roms...
But some roms have a "fail-safe" that you can turn on booting into CWM after every boot up.
On a couple (MIUI, EncounterICS) roms, a new Boot-menu has been made where you simply press the down-volume button right when this blue light flashes during boot.
(You obviously need to be on one of those roms for it to work)
I'd suggest CM7 or MIUI so far for stability as far as (true) AOSP goes.
EncounterICS is coming along nicely, however...and shows promise in the near future.
Links to a couple of roms that I'd suggest are also in the post linked in my sig.

Thank you. I actually ended up with the Liquid for her. It seems like all the problems was comong from the bad SD card which gave out and she lost everything. I'm trying to see if I can somehow get some of it back but that's another story...
I'm a big fan of CM7 but don't like to install nightlys for others, especially if they live in another state. I don't see a stable CM7 so I will wait. It appears that Liquid is also AOSP and is playing nice MIUI is nice but I'm kind of sick of it. I love vanilla Android. All these theming isn't for me.

awesome, I guess this is what I was looking for: to get to some kind of recovery when stuck. Hope I don't have to visit this post though.
Hey please can anybody help with this:
I got a Nexus 7 tablet as a present to my wife.
She is the first user and thus has the administrator user credentials.
The problem is she had to make a lock pin password for a few days to lend it to a friend and then she forgot it.
Now on the lockscreen, no matter how many times the pin is given wrong, the prompt "Forgot Password" never appears!!
I read in several forums that if pin code forgotten the user can alternatively may log in using linked gmail account credentials.
But the prompt does not appear to do this.
It just counts the times given wrong and makes a timer of 30'' for every set of 5 times wrong input.
With the second user I can use the tablet normally but we are stuck in this situation to have the admin locked out.
Is ther something we can do other than factory reset?
And if factory reset is the only solution, how it may be done?
Thanks in advance
Chris
Seems to be not too uncommon..
