Place for roms, kernals, ect. - Atrix 4G General

Just like the title says, with an unlocked bootloader, cwm, p-roms, kernals, and everything else we have for the atrix would it be possible to put finalized items in its own subsection. I think this may help cleanup the dev section and make things easier to find as well as getting some of the clutter outta there as well... I don't know how easy it is to do but its just a suggestion.

I'm a total noob and need some help!!

I completely new to the whole flashing and custom rom thing. I've never tried anything like it and don't know much about it. The closest I've come to hacking or rooting my Vibrant phone is with the OCLF app. Now, I too have been patiently waiting for Froyo to come out and for some reason when it did come out I was hesitant to get it. I wanted to see what people were saying about it before I downloaded and installed it. So far from what I'm seeing, its not all its cracked up to be and it seems like Froyo for the Vibrant is "meh" for most. This is a bummer to me but I kept hearing about using a custom and its advantages. Thankfully I bumped into a very useful thread posted by xriderx66 on his reviews on some of the roms out now. Based on what he said, I'm looking to flashing my phone to the Bionix-V Rom by Team Whiskey. Problem is I have no idea how to get started. What do I need to do to flash my phone? Any program I need to download first? How do I backup my files? I'm such a noob at this its funny but I'm willing to take the risk and experience this phone the way it should be experienced. If someone can post a link showing a step by step on how to do the whole thing I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance
Go to the development thread and browse through the stickies. Reading and more reading should be the first two things you do. Pay attention to anything relating to odin.

Your welcome. Let me know if you run into any issues.

That thread he posted for you is the best information I have been able to find for someone that is just getting started. I too am just kinda dancing around flashing bionix v. I have rooted and downloaded rom manager and clockwork though...just about ready to flash as soon as I gather up the courage. But everything I have done up to this point was learned in the Noob Guide he linked. Its like vibrant flashing for dummies.

Will do jbat! Once again thanks. @ goodvibrant, I hear you. Tomorrow when I have the time I will flash this phone to the Bionix thanks to this noob guide. I took a look at the guide and it seems pretty easy to follow. I look forward to it!

Sure thing man. No problem. Ive received help and try to give it when I can. I figure if I can help with the easier questions then the guys that know a hell of a lot more than I do, can focus on the advanced questions. Everyone is here to learn.

Root

Hey guys just got the atrix and it's on
What's the easiest way you found to root it?
Sorry it won't let me post in development for some reason
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
it depends what firmware ur on
Gladroot. the link is in my signature below.. make sure you follow the instructions carefully depending on your situation.
Right now, it appears Gingerbreak roots everything, but you need an SD card. See the Atrix Dev forum.
Ok thanks guys will try ginger break

And you should not post in development as your question is not development related.
try typing root in the search box, or any question, you usually get some good answers
I've got a brand new Atrix running 1.26. So far in this thread they recommended Gladroot and someone else Gingerbreak. Is there a benefit to using one over the other? I am admittedly an Android noob and been reading a lot trying to understand flashing SBF, ADB, CWM, etc. Knowing there is a beta update soon to be tested, I would like to use a method that is most likely to work with a new update should it follow on the heals of the beta.
If you have an SD card around, update now, then run Gingerbreak.
If not, follow the process in the Gladroot thread to getting root on 1.57. Assuming you care about the update... there's really no reason not to have it.
In the future, please search before posting a new thread. This has been discussed hundreds of times on this forum, and with a bit of legwork you could have easily gotten all of this info for yourself. Although I will admit the root situation is a bit more confusing now that a new exploit has been found.
Gladroot will give you the option to enable sideloading Gingerbreak does not.
thats just my 2 cents

[Q] New to this Forum

Hey guys. If the title didn't apply, I am new to this forum. I just came from The evo 3d. Switched to this phone. While I think its very cool, I noticed that this forum does not have many ROMs or mods to play around with. That's ok. This phone is only a couple months old so I'm sure with time, more and more development will occur.Anyway to my point. I noticed that my phone is very different than my evo 3d than what I was used to as far as just flashing a recovery and installing a rom or kernel inside recovery. Gaining full s-off etc..
My questions is can someone show me what's different as far as gaining s-off
Method of installing roms
If someone would be kind to point me in the right direction that would be great. Thank you.

Its the recovery that we use with Motorola devices without an unlocked bootloader similar to twrp. We can flash basically anything but kernels and radios I believe. It also forces us to partition our internal memory unfortunately...but it also allows us to boot into multiple different roms without losing settings or apps

Yoo Sparta follow antp121's thread in the general forum for a complete guide on how to use safe strap for installing cm10 or any other rom for that matter. It will really help you! Helped me a lot... Especially me coming from the droid 3 with clockwork mod and no safe strap. Hope this helps.

Thank you guys for all if your very informative information. I will look into these links that were provided for me. I usually go and learn everything I can about a device before attempting to gain root, s-off, or unlocking boot loaders. So far I learned that its not possible to unlock boot loader or gain s-off. Believe me when I was on evo 3d. HTC made it very difficult for us to get s-off by patching up the exploits in the hboot by updating it with every ota update. Luckily, we had some very talented devs to get past the patches and come up with solutions.
I only hope the same could be done with the droid razr's boot loaders. I am just spit balling but would it be possible to petition Motorola to come up with an unlock method and post it on their website like HTC did. Again just spit balling lol

Noob here and I got questions

If this is in the wrong part of the forum please move it.
So I just got a s4. Switched over from iPhone 5. I blindedly updated to the MF3 firmware. Ive read the sticky threads and managed to root my phone.
But now I'm completely clueless on what I can do. I'm basically in to android for theming but I'm guessing I need a custom Rom.
I also want to get rid of the AT&T bloat ware. How do I do that?
Thanks guys.
Sorry if it's sounds so dumb but this is my first time using android.

Read the "software update" thread. The "sticky" threads you read also have information or lead to information that can help you. Doing a search of the sub forums should get you a lot of results as well. All of the answers you asked are in those threads.
And yes, this should be in the Q & A section, however, for future reference, please use the search function or look at the related topics that appear while posting to find answers before posting in any section. Good luck.

[Q] Newb question -installed a ROM for a different phone

Hey guys....
So I had a bunch of trouble rooting my phone, finally got it done.
But now.. I have come to realize that I installed a ROM for a different phone..
I have a SGH-I337M and my phone now says under model number GT-I19505G..
Everything seems to be working fine right now.. question is. Is this a problem? Did I screw up? Did I get lucky in not bricking my phone and should be more careful next time?
Thanks in advance..

Instead of asking a bunch of questions (in the wrong forum) you need to read and learn about things before you do them. You can start by reading the "pinned" threads in the general and q & a sections. Good luck.
Yes you're being very lucky for not screwing your phone. From now on make sure that you flash the right room for your phone. Read the forum us much as you can

Lol your on point right there with all of those questions. Well he might have flashed a correct working ROM just doesn't know it because it says something else than what he's use to.

Looks like you flashed an international rom. You might want to look into the galaxy s4 forums (not the att or canadian s4 forums) for more info on that rom and whether or not your gonna have issues
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
It's my perception that he has a rogers Canadian phone which is our forum. If I remember correctly, the 1337m can be flashed with some international roms and still be fine. I don't think he has the google s4. So OP I'd advise you to check out the development threads regarding the Canadian s4, but I think you're fine because the unlocked Canadian phone can be flashed with some international roms.

I just don't understand how so many ppl flash wrong Roms. This might sound harsh but if your flashing a wrong ROM then maybe this isn't for you or at least "read up". This is the reason I'm yet to flash a ROM on my gs4. I'm on MF3, I havent read up enough on using SS and the particular Roms my phone can use.
brought to you by my not so sexy GS4 MF3
