Hey guys just got the atrix and it's on
What's the easiest way you found to root it?
Sorry it won't let me post in development for some reason

it depends what firmware ur on
Gladroot. the link is in my signature below.. make sure you follow the instructions carefully depending on your situation.
Right now, it appears Gingerbreak roots everything, but you need an SD card. See the Atrix Dev forum.
Ok thanks guys will try ginger break

And you should not post in development as your question is not development related.
try typing root in the search box, or any question, you usually get some good answers
I've got a brand new Atrix running 1.26. So far in this thread they recommended Gladroot and someone else Gingerbreak. Is there a benefit to using one over the other? I am admittedly an Android noob and been reading a lot trying to understand flashing SBF, ADB, CWM, etc. Knowing there is a beta update soon to be tested, I would like to use a method that is most likely to work with a new update should it follow on the heals of the beta.
If you have an SD card around, update now, then run Gingerbreak.
If not, follow the process in the Gladroot thread to getting root on 1.57. Assuming you care about the update... there's really no reason not to have it.
In the future, please search before posting a new thread. This has been discussed hundreds of times on this forum, and with a bit of legwork you could have easily gotten all of this info for yourself. Although I will admit the root situation is a bit more confusing now that a new exploit has been found.
Gladroot will give you the option to enable sideloading Gingerbreak does not.
thats just my 2 cents

If you want the most *stable* go with stock with root. Hopefully by the time you root there will be a 2.2 official version.
Hello XDA
I recently updated my phone through Verizon to
Android Version 2.3.3
System Verion 4.5.596
Before I was interested in rooting. I have been researching and tried everything I could find to root this version
but nothing has worked. (gingerbreak, z4root, easyroot, ect.) I did a factory reset/system wipe.
(still 2.3.3 - 4.5.596 on reset)
Am I doing something wrong? Should this version be rooting with GingerBreak or another root program?
(They all are stuck on loading screens never finish or reboot)
or (from what I have read) do I need to rollback to an earlier version to be able to load the 'prerooted'
gingerbread OS?
I am fairly new to this, and am sorry for my ignorance. If it is out there somewhere a link would safice
but as of now I haven't been able to find anything dealing directly with my situation. Thank you for any
and all help.

There's no rooting method through stock 2.3.3 yet
you're gonna have to SBF back to stock .340 and flash p3droid's OTA rooted gingerbread ROM
Ok, I was hoping there was a simplier way but expected that for the most part from what I had read. Thank you.
Rooting my Stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 (4.5.596) Droid X
I don't want to sound redundant to skate 72w but I have searched the forums up and down.. Is there any other one-click way to root my stock GB 4.5.596 droid x? I found this article
I do not see where it talks about the 4.5.596...
If not, can someone please direct me in the right way to get froyo back so I can have my wireless tether back!
Thanks,
-Nick
There is a rooting method or p3droid would not have been able to root. Wish he would share.

p3 tends to 'find' things that other folks don't have. He has a rooted .596 but it's achieved through flashing. He has not announced a way to root the OTA, and I think he would do so if he had one.
Everyone questions p3droids methods.
If you want to root: do some searching here.

Is the sticky still there?
I would consider myself to be a noob when it comes to rooting, all i want it for is the wireless tethering. I have done an sbf once but dont feel very good about doing it again, and am just looking for another one click method to rooting like z4root. I am running on gingerbread 4.5.596 from verizon.
OTA Root
I love my Droid X - hate the VZ CRAPWARE.
I now have the 4.5.596 (2.3.3) OTA update.
The only update method to obtain root is to SBF to Froyo - Root - and install the TBH/P3 Droid pre-rooted update.
At this point, I have too many apps installed and too many settings to reconfigure to take the route.
My main goal is to obtain root (such as a Z4 root style one click) so that I can maintain all my apps and configurations. Once I root, then I can freeze all the VZ Crap (every Google Maps update requires me to choose between GM and VZ Navigator the first time 1 click an address, and having to choose the contacts database EVERY TIME to Google is a PITA - Backup Assistant should be something I can DISABLE).
Sorry for the rant - to the point - does anyone know if ongoing efforts are being made to create a one-click Root for the Droid X? (Or a multi step that preserves data / apps / and settings)

Not to be a douche, but I definitely answered this question for you recently, and gave you a link to the how to thread on top of the fact that it's easily one of the most discussed things in this forum recently(aka easily found in search). You could at least give that a shot before posting the same question again. By my count, this is actually the third time someone answers this for you, and I have no nightlife lately so yeah I am keeping count. 4 times if you count Wolf up there.
If you don't even try to learn how to do anything properly then you're more likely to brick your phone than root it. I'm not sure why you asked for the help if you are going to ignore the responses people give you.
Here's the link again and hopefully you try it this time. If it seems too difficult for you then read up on the process first. Being properly informed will save your phone from being bricked more than anything else you can do once you start rooting.

A while ago I tried returning to stock by flashing the 2.2.1 PD15IMG, but I ended up getting a "Main Version Older" error in the bootloader. I later found out that the problem was that I still had the Gingerbread radio installed, which was incompatible with the older version of Froyo. As a result, my bootloader was stuck with S-ON but I still had root privileges. I searched for hours for a way to fix this, but I couldn't find any straight forward solution saying exactly what to do. It's really not that hard to fix, but I figured this would save people some time.
Main Version Older:
If you get this error, download the PD15IMG for "Official 2.3.4 Upgrade to stock 2.3.4 Rom (Unrooted)" found at the thread on the following link. This will unroot your phone and give you stock 2.3.4. Easy enough.
---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264704
Now after I returned to stock and got my replacement, I wanted to root my phone again. However, I never rooted from GB before so I had no idea what to do. I know it's been mentioned that there's a guide on how to downgrade in the newcomer's thread and someone posted the link below. When I got my replacement though, I didn't feel like a "newcomer" so naturally that wasn't the first place I looked. I know people might be upset cause there's already a guide stickied, but here's the guide I followed.
How to Downgrade:
---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
All credit of course goes to the OP of the respective threads.
A couple months ago when I had this problem, rather than posting what I did to fix it I just said anyone who needs help could PM me. I've gotten quite a few PM's over the last couple weeks, regarding both the "Main Version Older Error" and people having trouble downgrading. So here's everything I used, in one spot. I hope this helps save people some time by pointing them in the right direction.
Hey, thanks for posting this. Sometimes its nice to have a thread where you are pointed to the right place.

Does that not work?
I am comfortable with the instructions you linked except for the goldcard part if needed.
neidlinger's stickied thread in the general section actually points you to that downgrade through xda's wiki for htc glacier.
He also has a lot of other goodies that newcomers and what nots should check out.

Its not the method I used but I assume that should work too.
And sorry guys I understand this is kind of a repost, but it seems like there's a new thread every couple days with someone having trouble downgrading. And I haven't seen anything anywhere else about the "main version older" problem. I just figured this would be helpful to some people.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I can figure out, there is no way of rooting the 2.3.3 version of the Desire Z?
All guides start with downgrade to exploidable firmware, and that is not possible without gaining at least temporary root access, and all previous methods are broken?
Anyone has any ideas that work?

Of course it is! Don't you think there would be alot more angry people lol?! You have to obtain temp root on GB then downgrade to Froyo and get S-Off. It's a pain but I just did it on my friend's Evo Shift last month.
Thank you for answering I have spend several hours, and I can't get any of the temporary root solutions to function, they all seem to be ineffective against the current version?
Follow the XDA Vision wiki method. Shouldn't have any problems. I know someone that just did it last week and worked.

Can you go into more details? Like error code or anything? Are you sure you have adb set up properly? plus, drivers too?
If you can't get fre3vo to work (the only step which might not work, every other step is gauranteed to) use a different exploit, either zergRush or tacoroot will work.

I just wanted to ask, you say it is possible to root the 2.3.3. and you also said how. Actually I spent like 3 hours today by looking for the guides how to root this phone, and I am really scared to do it without previous asking.
all your responses were great, but I am really a newbie to these things, and those names you said (containing techniques how to root) didnt ring a bell in my head. Could you please just send me a link with a guide that will work?

I rooted and modded two G2 using this method and all went flawless, I read about ADB and how to use it, I read the guide several times to understand what was going to happen.
Read read read and then root and mod. The phones that I rooted were my first and second ever, I am NOT a dev nor am I an expert by any means. My point is that again if you read the entire post before trying anything then you will be successful. My phones were both on 2.3.3 and the process is not an easy one but works well. Hats off to those who took the time and effort to write the guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 this is the link to the guide.
Thank you for your answer. In any of the threads somebody mentioned the CM´s rooting guide on wiki, I checked it out and I got the idea.
which one would you prefer? the one posted above or the CM´s?
The CM wiki is based off that xda thread.
I would recommend the xda one, as it includes flashgc (for goldcard generation), which the cm wiki doesn't.

I have a friend that just bought an HTC Vision(G2) with 2.3.4 and he has been unable to downgrade using xda or wiki. He thinks 2.3.4 is incompatible with these methods. He is familiar with adb and previously owned a Nexus One. Anyone know if his opinion is wrong?
These methods do work.
If for some weird reason fre3vo doesn't feel like working, you can use zergRush or tacoroot to gain temp-root (which I linked in a previous post in this thread)
-Nipqer
Adb can seem scary/difficult to setup to some, but it's not at all. Adb being a tool used in the rooting/unlocking process. See my signature for a link to a guide on setting up adb.
Please stay away from any so-called one-click rooting/unlocking solutions (especially Visionary), because a lot of them don't work, and some carry a high risk of bricking your phone. There is absolutely no risk of bricking your phone if you carefully follow the XDA Wiki guide. Read it first, and feel free to ask questions if you're not sure about something.

It can be done and quite easily (took a while but it was very smooth). I did it on my friend's EVO Shift recently with 2.3.4 which is very close to our devices (an uglier cousin one might say lol). Sometimes if you get stuck, it helps to take a break. Also, don't over complicate things. Commands while using adb have to be precise. I suggest using copy and paste. Also double check you commands before hitting enter. I am quite sure 2.3.4 still works with frevo. Maybe his drivers are mixed up. That's usually what it is. Make sure you can get all your functions to work before rooting like usb tethering and whatnot.
