[HELP!] Atrix Not Displaying SIM Card Contacts After Gingerbread OTA - Atrix 4G General

Alright, so I updated my phone last night via AT&T's OTA update and everything is all great and gingerbread-y. However, now only my Facebook and Google contacts will display on the dialer with no option to access my SIM card contacts. I've looked at the different display options for the dialer, but I have yet to find to an option to display SIM card contacts. My phone WAS rooted before I OTA'ed, but everything else is/ was stock when I updated. Any ideas?

Phone Icon > Menu > Import/Export > Import Contacts from SIM Card.
So far only option.

And beware, it only works once. So export them somewhere after you improt them.

I'd recommend getting them onto google then dining an export to an external file and save that somewhere safe. Thus not losing your contacts.

Well, this is amazing. I tried importing my contacts and it gave me "Import contacts failed." I tried it a second time and now it says there are no contacts on my SIM card. Well thanks Motorola.

Check ur sim card first, and if there's no problem with it, read the contacts from another phone and export them, then upload to google.
anyway, everything goes down but not include G 囧

wiped phone, lost all contacts?

I searched the forums and didnt find anyone with a similar issue so i hope somebody can help and that i havent indeed lost all of my contacts.
I updated to jf 1.51 when it came out and after a week of having it, it there was a lot of force closings and other small issues, plus i needed to change my email anyway, so i decided to do a wipe. When i turned the phone back on and tried to import my contacts they were all gone. The phone works normally otherwise, and even the messages that were saved to my sim are still there so i dont think my card is fried but i could be wrong.
Any ideas?
Did you sync your contacts with Gmail?

If you skipped the setup where you enter your gmail and password it won't sync your contacts. Try running setup. If for some really odd reason that doesn't work. Sign in to your gmail account on your computer and click on contacts, all your contacts will be there.
I did all of that, my gmail contacts are fine, im talking about my phone contacts.. like the 200 phone numbers i had. When i went to contacts, import contacts it said there were no contacts on my sim.

All my contacts, phone number, address, or just email, are all sync'd with Gmail. I'm not sure how it wouldn't be so in your case.
Hmm.. so i guess i should try doing setup all over again? Any way to do that without doing factory reset?

Why are you importing from SIM? Imprort from google. If you save them to sim, import from sim and then sync to google, you're gonna end up with a hella-mess-of duplicate contacts.

Ok, i was getting a little confused since i had already done what you guys were saying so i did this (checked online) and i didnt think about the fact i had changed my gmail account. All of my contacts are on my old account.
When i started the new acct i figured everything (contact wise) would still be on my sim from before so i wouldnt get double info when i imported but i also didnt think about everything being stuck to the old acct.
Sorry guys, i feel dumb now, lol. I appreciate everyones help though

I seem to have 300 Contacts on the PHONE

yet they cannot be found. I only see my Google contacts listed
Trust me, I don't want them there. I wanna start over, copy to the sim, import to the phone, (I did some clean up of the contacts0
But the app contacts 2 sim says there are 300 phone contacs, besides
the speed dial feature works and the individual ringtone feature works, both of which need contacts to be on the phone
So, they MUST be somewhere. Can someone tell me where they may be
I'd be most grateful
Thanks
Did you try going to Display Options at the Contact screen and playing around with the options there? Like, turn off Google contacts and leave the others on and see what happens.
Thanks Inat.
I have opened them all up
PHone,
Facebook,
Google Contacts
Sim
NOTHING
I am gonna believe maybe they are NOT There
Take off the Buddy speed dial Widget
Make all group ringtones I have set up to default
I took off the SIM card app, took it off, then will reinstall it again. Copy to Sim (good free app)
Anyone who has more ideas and can keep helping is most appreciated
is that app pretty good for that
Lastly, I heard from a guy at Nexus support, he mostly tries to find free apps for everything. YOu should never pay because 99% of the time there will be some for free. Do you agree. I am not saying he is against donations, for those who count on those, but I think he is clearly against clicking BUY for the first app he sees
go to main settings > accounts and sync > tap on your gmail account > uncheck sync contacts

Phonebook Contacts keep disappearing

Hi guys, this is my first post but ive been lurking here for a while trying to learn more about my phone.
This is a bit long winded so please bare with me..
I bought this phone about a week ago from rogers wireless. It's locked to rogers and i updated the phone with the SE updater to the latest version they have. I bought the phone under my contract and then gave it to my wife (her old phone broke so i thought it would be nice to give her a new one)
She's now using her old simcard in the phone and other than the phonebook contacts keep disappearing, everything else works fine and all the txt msgs are intact.
1) whenever i switch sims from her's back to mine, the phonebook will be cleared.
2) today she told me that the phonebook cleared even though she didnt touch the simcard.
any idea as to why this is happening? she thinks the phone is defective i think its just something software. Im going to try and do a factory reset on the phone and setup the entire phone w/ her sim instead of mine (which is what i originally done) and then update again on SE updates.
Gmail sync
Hi
I've had the problem too. It turned out that the synchronization with Gmail was the culprit. The phone saw that a given contact was not in the contact list in Gmail and therefore deleted it from the phone instead of adding it to the Gmail contact list. The same goes for changes to contacts - if I change something on the phone, it disappears when the phone syncs. If I want to keep the changes, I have to make them in the Gmail list. I don't know how to change that behaviour.

Yeah that's just BS. I didn't sync with Gmail right at the start, so when I finally did it last weekend, I lost all of my 249 contacts. Luckily, I had them backed up on my old sim card, so I restored them, but all the contact pictures, facebook links etc were lost
Gmail sync fail
wow! thanks for solving the mystery Martin!
Any idea how i can either import all those contacts to gmail's contacts (other than manually inserting them.. )
Man it's so friggin annoying to have to restore my contact book every time the damn google sync does a check.

You could just turn off google sync
well it seems like ive turned off google sync and yet it still has this problem. I figure it might be attributed to her having to log into google accounts??? there is a message on the notification bar sometimes that asks her to log into her google account. Could that be it?
Every time it doesn't detect a password/or has the user logged in, will it purge all the contacts? Is there even a safe way of backing up the contacts on SD card and then transferring that file to my HD so i can reformat the phone for her?

Voice call by using google voice

Hi
Whenever i double tap the home button and want to call a contact, there are always multiple contacts that show for the same person. Yoy have to keep repeating the name until it finally calls. I have show only phone contacts to show and hiding sim ones. How can i avoid multiple contacts
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Do the multiple contact entries have different phone numbers or are they the same? You can go into a contact and hold down on the number and make it the default if they have more than one. Also, it may be a good idea to clean up your contacts. I had to do this with my gf. It was a mess. She had stuff in her google account, on her sim card, and with facebook with various names. I put all her contacts on her google account and cleared out everything else. You are probably getting contacts stored on the phone and your google voice contacts showing up.

Hi
The contacts have the same number. I only have one contact and name but it always says multiple found. I'm guessing it's still seeing the sim contact as well. If i long press on a contact there is no option to make it default.

I think you are right. I would log on to google voice and check your contacts there and then delete them off the sim card. It's obsolete to have them on the sim card anyway because of it's limited storage and the cloud where you can have your contacts on all your devices. Plus if they're only on the sim and you lose it, they are gone.
BTW, the long press default option only shows up in a contact that has multiple numbers.
I think I have solved it. I deleted numbers from the sim card that was also present on the phone. I then exported all to SD card. I went to manage applications and the ontact storage and cleared phone storage for contacts. The only numbers that were left were around 5 on my sim. I then imported the vcf file from SD card. It then showed some duplicate numbers contacts that were not showing anywhere before !! I then deleted them and left only 1 of each. It now dials on first attempt and no more duplicate entries found

[Q] contacts lost due to system software update HELP plz. :(

I have a problem... i recently received an ota and decided to install it, but had forgotten to export my contacts that were stored on my phone to my sd card, but from personal experience, i've never lost any contacts due to an update. and unfortunately, i didnt upload my contacts to tmobile or gmail. is there any way i can restore my contacts from the phone memory somehow? is there some sort of program or anything i can do? i figured the contacts were probably stored in some sort of temp area on the phone and could still be accessed and restored before it's lost forever. please guys and girls, i need your expertise!!!
I don't think so, & I am just curious. Surely you have synced your contacts on gmail or tmobile at some point in the last month or so? I know u said u didn't b4 the update but haven't you ever?

The contacts save to Gmail automatically. So simply just signing in to Gmail should bring everything back. Unless you chose to save them to the phone. Which you might still be able to retrieve them by going to the T-Mobile website, logging in and going to manage account then contacts.

That's what I was thinking. The only way they wouldn't, is if you disabled auto-sync.

i forgot to mention, i didn't back up to gmail or tmobile because the phone was out of the states using a sim card that did not have internet service nor was it connected to wifi for it to have backed up to either... am i really screwed? plz somebody save mee!!!! ((((( i thought it would be a similar concept to how you can technically restore music from a wiped ipod just because it's saved to some sort of temp thing... no software out there that can be used to dig in to the phone and restore that which had been deleted? the saddest part is that i didn't even delete the numbers myself. that stupid software update ruined everything.

Sorry, if there was no back up of any kind then you're royally screwed. You have no way to get any of them numbers back.
But just in case, go into your contacts app and press menu. You will see where it says import/export. Click on it and import from phone. If you're lucky, when you click on import from phone, you will see numbers. If no numbers show up then, like I said, sorry but you're screwed.
