So I have had my vibrant since the beginning. I just got my wife one and the weird thing is her screen is so much better than mine. Her screen does not have the greyish look in white colors. Its very bright and white. I have compared with brightness levels the same and on different roms with the same effect. The new vibrants screen looks so much better.

its the same...
happened to me yesterday when i got a new one as well..
A guy told me..
that it was because the stock kernel isn't trying to save battery, while the custom kernels you flash are saving battery so they lower their contrast, brightness etc.
Where as Stock kernels go full-out with everything at maximum
Hope i answered your question.
NO, newer Vibrant's don't have better screens. This is an old issue.

Ok this is an old issue. Newer Vibrants do not have better screens.
No two Vibrant screens are alike.
From it's release date, every single Vibrant was like a box of chocolates, you never knew what tint your display would be.
Some vibrants come with blue tint, others with grey, some yellow, some red, some brown.
It is a quality control issue and has nothing to do with the manufacture date.

There are many more links about tint issues with super amoled. Like I said, no two screens are alike, and trying to get a replacement might get you one with an even uglier tint.

Really? Never knew about this..
I notice no tint on my screen, even if its compared to my brothers...
Hmm.. Yes his screen does seem a bit different but not much its not the color but the brightness hes always at max... so it looks brighter... hmmm
interesting.
If it looks brighter at the same brightness settings, its probably because you have the power saving box checked in display while she doesn't. I thought the same thing when I compared to my friend's new vibrant, but after I unchecked the box it looked the same.

First of all dont treat me like I am a noob. I have been on the forums years longer than almost everyone here. Second all of the settings are exactly the same. Same roms and so on. 3rd I never talked about getting a replacement, I am just fine with the one I have so dont EVEN bring this up. I will be buying a 3rd vibrant next week for my daughter and I will see how that one compares. If it is a new model and is just as bright as my wifes then I will think that something has changed. Amoled or not there is no reason why there will be so many differences as you have stated. Here is a thought for you: Is everyones eyes the same.....NOPE. Every person sees colors completely different, no two are the same. I am not going by what other people think I am basing my opinion with my eyes and soon to be 3 different vibrant phones.

Couple of things...... One, alot of the people on this forum really do not understand writing etiquette...... I agree actually with you, it very hard to interpret some of the writing as neutral when (intentionally or not) they are couched in sarcasm and innuendo. Now that I got that off my chest........
The Amoled screens, when they were making them in May-Sept, there was a huge shortage because of lack of manufacturing capacity. As a result, alot of the q/c was suspect. Mostly because they did not go the full 100%. Added to that there are limitations in the process (since effectively they are grown (the amoled)and so it is a slower process. Samsung oversold their phones and in June had to start building a 2.1 Billion manufacturing Amoled facility.
Anyway, all this background to say YES the new amoled are of a better quality, I have noticed it as well I got a vibrant for my wife in December and it is a nicer screen view for sure.
Hope that helps
Negative wait til the screen settles in a bit my friend got A 4g and my phone and his ended up looking the same

Hi,
I do have an issue with the screen of my SGN :
When the display is dimed at maximum and with grey backgrounds, horizontal lines like shades (in portrait mode) are visible.
It's almost like the screen were dirty.
Is it a special thing on amoled screens ?
Am I the only one with that ?
Thanks in advance for your reaction.
And sorry for my english, I'm french...

I have a SGN and I'm afraid I see the same thing. It's primarily on grey backgrounds...but sometimes is slightly visible on white backgrounds as well. Annoying....but the screen is otherwise brilliant. I suppose this is the price we have to pay...but I don't like it one bit ..
search the forum. There are threads about this and other display issues. You are far from being alone. I have sent mine back for this and other screen problems.

Yes, also present on the note... it is only viewable when you dim the screen and have a gray background. For example if you use the ScreenFilter app you can really see all the artifacts and lines. I don't really see this when you have full brightness.

Not got a replacement yet.
I've had two SGN's with these problems so far. The first one I ordered and the replacement I got. The first one I got even had dead pixels and dust behind the screen.
I don't think I will be getting a third one. Samsung really sucks at doing quality phones free from any defects. Just reading the threads about the SGN here on the forum shows that the screen is not the only problem. For an example, the physical buttons stops responding randomly and the note can't play some videos properly while other more older and cheaper phones can... I'm disappointed with these problems and I'm currently using my iPhone 4... Which works without any problem, but unfortunately doesn't have a 5.3" HD screen!!!!!
So just got a call from Gamestop today saying my Nexus was in! It was supposed to arrive on the 31st but instead arrived 10 days early which is awesome. I checked the SSN number and saw that it is C8OK so it's from the new wave! It's still charging because I'm weird and like to have all of my devices fully charged before i use them. So far no visual defects, e.g. 'Screen Lift'. Is there any other specific things I should look for to make sure it's defect free? Thanks for your time!
Well, my first generation (C60K) Nexus 7 was fine for the past month until today when the speaker blown. So you may want to make sure your speaker is OK
Other than that, congratulations

Thank you kind sir!
I just got a C8OK model as well in Canada, at Canada Computers.
Looked it over. Don't see any defects. Also ran a screen test and is perfect so far. Light bleed is almost non-existent (much better then the iPad 3 I had and the Prime I had before)
Speakers seem a bit low/weak, but that's perfectly fine with me.
Funny thing is - its model is "ME370T" / Asus Pad.
I just got my nexus 7 and starts with C70.. I haven't found any problems so far..

Main two or three things I'm curious about are the color quality of the screen.
Are the greens and yellows still pastel looking. This will probably be hard to judge if you don't have another tablet to compare with. Compared with my Nook Color, Touchpad, or iPad, there is a noticeable problem with those two colors on the Nexus 7.
Is the white saturation improved? Hopefully you can see beyond 250 on this test.
http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/white.php
And is the PRISM issue fixed, does playing videos cause the screen to look very washed out afterwards? (There is a easy fix for this, but would be nice if I didn't need to apply a fix)

Haven't tested with the screen washout yet but on that white saturation test I can barely see 248.
Edit: Just found that there's a lighter area of screen down the left side when looking at a black screen. Might post a pic if I can get a good shot of it.

Used that link you provided. Don't know if screen brightness affects it or not (40% brightness), but I can see 250. Above that no.
All colors look fine to me on the screen test. Better then a Prime for sure, not on par with the iPad 3.
I'll check for the PRISM issue when I get a chance.
EDIT: Did a straight comparison with my Galaxy S2 - Greens are lighter. Whites are better. Blacks obviously worse. Blues and Reds looks great on both. Yellow seems fine.
C60 perfect so far ,like life ,like my N7
I have an upgrade (Verizon) and have opted for the S3 over the Note 2, because of size and rom development.
I am a 23 year old, built dude who needs help with the color lol. Black (kinda boring but different for an s3) or white (which is so common and sort of feminine, but exemplifies freshness).
"Doesn't matter if [...] black or white"
xD
I have the black and I regret it. You see too much fingerprints and dust whereas my white never showed anything. DEFINITELY WHITE!!!
This is a weird thread, but after a bad experience with a black pleather slip case 'rubbing' against an old HTC Hero G2 and eventually causing a non-removal grey/black smudge on the phone, I avoid white phones.
The white S3 looks nice, but I have a pebble blue myself.
Don't know if it's an option but I've got the i9305 in titanium & it's a very nice colour

Both posts were a mistake - hundreds of different opinions from the community isn't going to help do anything meaningful.
You'll be asking which is the best ROM next...
The white one has better developer support, the black one has a bigger battery.

Wow. You're just a tool I guess.
Opinions from people who actually have them (versus trolls like you) actually would help.
I like both and I've seen both genders have these colors. Actually it's odd at my office since all the male have white phones.. except me. haha. But if you're ok with both and are looking for something different, go with the opposite color from your old phone.
Has anyone notice the vertical lines especially on gray backgrounds like the notification pull down?

Yup. Easily noticeable if you put the phone on full brightness and drag down the pulldown menu.

i noticed this too...didn't have it as bad as my other n4 that i had to rma. i actually notice lines and blobs. mostly noticeable on grey backgrounds like jb menus. really hated the blobs on amoled screens but seems like lcd's get it too
One the biggest reasons I am hesitating to upgrade from my S3 is just that, defects... they seem rampant with this phone. I have not a single defect on my S3, and there are no screen oddity's to speak of.

You don't have lines or blobs on the s3? It's a amoled screen
I have an iphone 4 for 2 years and don't notice these line, Yet when I first got the Nexus I could see it right away, Looking at my old iphone 4 and no line at all. Most be a lg screen built quality.
Just got my n4 yesterday and it was flawless until earlier tonight while web browsing a vertical line appeared to the far left of the screen it sticks out like a sore thumb against white backgrounds like most web pages.its very irritating and even blinks in and out.I swore I'd never buy lg after the g2x screen disaster but had to its a nexus do I so sold my gs3 yesterday and now I'm stuck with this annoying line.even if I RMA it will take forever to get a new one.
Wait, the IPS+ on the Nexus 4 has vertical banding? I thought that that problem was exclusive to the Super AMOLED HD on the Galaxy Nexus. In fact, I exchanged 3 of them to get one with banding that didn't show on all backgrounds. So as I now understand it, this was not an AMOLED HD problem?
Could it be a software thing? My old Droid X's non-HD LCD never seemed to have these issues. Neither does the SLCD3 screen of the Droid DNA. Very weird.

Lol, I don't know what you've been reading about amoled screens but they're not as rampant with problems as everyone makes them out to be. I'm I'm my third phone with an amoled panel and they've all been perfect. No yellow tint, no blobs, etc. The only issue I ever encountered was the first s2i had, had a dead pixel. Aside from that they're incredible. Prefer them to any LCD screen personally, and I'm a full times graphics artist )
