All my webpages are showing in mobile view. I have looked all through the settings and cannot find the option to make everything show up like I am on a PC.
Does anyone know if this can be done, I have been able to do this on my previous HTC phones. I have loaded Dolphin Browser HD and Xscope but they still both also show some pages in mobile view.
Thanks.
I have the same problem
I've tried every thing to and it won't disable mobile views anyone have ideas
After playing with different settings in multiple browsers, if you download xscope browser and tell it your an ipad it makes everything show up correctly. I tried desktop view in that browser but some things still came up as mobile view.
Egads, this is my #1 annoyance. although this is a Google thing and not Samsung, per se. HTC Sense however has an option in the browser settings to disable mobile view pages from coming up (doesn't disable WAP capability though so you can still open a wap page manually).
i tried the manual method where you enter that debug command in the address bar and then go into the settings where you can change it from mobile to desktop (and iphone lol) views and other phones the 'desktop' view takes care of it, but i tried it on the Vibrant and then it renders the browser unusable until you reset the browser.
I came to this site to post about this but someone beat me to it. I hope there is a solution out there. I also think its really stupid that these websites think they need to show android phones their mobile views.
Maybe someone can push one of the other ROM's browser .apk to this phone. The browser on the rom I'm using has an option in the settings to change your User Agent.
Hey guys/gals, try something out for me (I don't have a V so I can't)
Open up your stock browser.
Type “about:debug” in the address line and press enter. (No quotations)
Hit “menu” and then select “Settings.”
You should now see all kind's of debugging settings including "UA String"
Click that and select "Desktop"
Let us know if it worked
Thanks!
Doesn't do anything.

AFter typing about:debug in the browser address window you have to press menu, then settings and then go down to the bottom and look for UAstring. That is how it works on the Nexus. I don't have a Vibrant yet either but it is on the way.

May be Sammy did something to the Browser app... can we get few more confirmations that it in fact does not work?
Other solution could be to rip out Browser.apk out of CM 2.1 rom and try installing or ADB pushing it to the system.

So I did this and got it to work. Clicked UA string and selected desktop. Now my browser force closes repeatedly and I can not get it open. Please tell me how to undo what I did.
Thanks

How do you reset the browser? Ugh
After changing my UAString to Desktop, Browser did nothing but FC on start, I had to push a default version of Browser back to the phone and reset the settings.

I suppose. Idk, coming from the Mytouch, I'm used to wiping and formating and reinstalling and wiping and resetting things so many times testing the new roms that I'm used to it. May wanna try Titanium Backup first, I suppose.
I have been struggling with the slow default browser for a while now... generally laggy, but particulary dismal on these forums and on Slash dot. I'm sure you all know how it goes. Had to resort to Firefox for many things, but that has its own problems, like not very tablety UI.
Well, today I found Opera (note: Mobile, NOT Mini - both are in Market). Where the hell were those guys before? It's blazing fast - yes, even on XDA forums - yet still full featured, and with UI that looks and feels very nice on Xoom - address bar always on, and tabs are one tap away. Bonus points for default black theme which meshes nicely with Honeycomb. The only downsid so far is no Flash - it mentions support in settings, and shows the "tap to play" icon, but doesn't load plugin on tap. I guess not updated for 10.2 yet...
If you hate default browser, definitely give this a try. Oh, and don't forget to check opera:config - lots of interesting settings there, like font/color overrides.
Dolphin HD?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Dolphin uses same engine as stock browser, and seems to be slow on the same websites. Firefox and Opera are not because they have their own engines.
I do like Opera mobile browser myself. I use it on my OG Droid all the time. It's a good solid speedy browser. But then again I also like xScope and their web browser. It works very well on the Xoom, and you can also change the user agent. It has a file browser built into it which might be good for some who don't already have a basic file browser. Should give it a go sometime. It is probably the fastest of them all, I've had it since launch. I have xScope Pro and prefer it over any of the Opera browsers any day. But they both are excellent choices. It's all preference based. Right now I am mainly using Dolphin HD on my Xoom until xScope gets flash 10.2 working correctly. Dolphin is a pretty awesome browser.
I'm stuck between xScope and Dolphin for my default browser. I can't choose. xD

I read on the Yahoo! News tech page that Opera jist released am update today. Did you get an update and did it fix Flash? I might give that and xScope a whirl. I want to like the stock browser but just can't. I like Dolphin's set up but it seems to crash too often for me.
Still ****ty with user-agent.
No desktop mode (spoof user-agent).
But yeah, it is fast.
Dolphin for me just because it can change the user-agent to desktop.

Curious, why can't you change the user-agent? I went into user prefs, custom user agent, and set it without issue. Flash doesn't work all that great but its better than the stock browser.

Well if u go to opera:config ---- user prefs ---- Custom user-agent you should see a blank window, insert your the user-agent string in that field. I've tested this with the ipad and chrome strings now i'm using the firefox string
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; ru; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/4.0 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Yeah I tried out Firefox and couldn't believe how much faster it opened some sites compared to the Honey browser. I did get a lot of crashes though. I will have to try Opera now. Thanks!
I actually tried Opera Mobile again and their new update for tablets. Not bad, it's getting better. It certainly might have the potential to maybe be the top web browser if they keep updating it for the newest devices and adding new features. I'm keeping an eye on it and look forward to updates.
On a side note.. on the desktop I always preferred Firefox over Opera because of all the add-ons and customizations, like adblock plus. And Firefox was always a speed demon. They are trying to bring that full desktop experience to us Android users, add-ons and all! I'd watch out for Firefox as well even though the browser is still in the early beta stage. Once perfected it will dominate for sure, but it has a long way to go in terms of development. Gotta love the fox!
This string works great.
Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.0; U; de) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.00
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!
The smoothness of opera's scrolling has always been the selling point for me. Tried all the rest and havent been satisfied. Now that I dont get the annoying mobile versions of sites im all settled..

It looks like I was actually using the updated version. Unfortunately, I found its release notes, and they say that Flash does not work on Xoom specifically.
Speaking of speed, one thing I found interesting about this Opera release is that they somehow made it silky smooth panning and zooming without either the Safari-style "checkerboard" nor bitmap scaling - honest vector rendering only. What's interesting is that desktop Opera isn't half as good at that (partly why I switched to Chrome on desktop some time ago). Mobile getting all the love?
After using it for a while, one thing it's not is very stable (well, not any more so than Firefox beta). But between them two and the stock browser, you can always find one that doesn't FC on any particular website
I love Opera Mini but am I the only one that can't get flash to work with it? I also don't know why it isn't picking up my bookmarks that I used with my stock browser.

Once they did Flash this will be my daily browser. just smooth as butter.
i just installed Opera on the Xoom.. works great, fast, but 2 things
it says there is Flash, but it does not work, on demand or just auto, nothing, just blank screen
2. no option to set "desktop" always goes mobile.
i could be missing something, please help

That doesn't make sense. Dolphin Mini/HD are not standalone browsers, they are UI and tweaks but use the stock webview browser (same as stock). So if it works in Dolphin, it should work in stock unless something is really screwed up.
Go into your Browser settings and make sure Plug Ins are set to On Demand or On.
In the stock browser, I'm able to load, say, Bejewled Blitz on Facebook. But when I went to hbo.com (I wanted to try HBOtoGo) it tells me that it's a flash site and I don't have flash installed.
I get the same message on HBO.com. Also, I am not able to watch videos on Hulu.com.
Try CNN. I think those sites block mobiles and tablets.

Flash doesn't work in third party browsers... It only works in the stock browser. Also, some sites like Hulu block mobile devices from accessing their content for what ever reason.. It has nothing to do with the actual device. Hulu is working on an App for Android that will be released in the next couple months. We will probably see a Netflixs app even sooner.

Unfortunately, you will have to do this after each reboot of the device. This has been an issue from the earliest versions of Android and Google seem to be incapable of finding a solution to what on the face of it seems to be a relatively simple problem.

Dolphin Pad seems to be a bit better about remembering this...although some sites still insist on loading the mobile versions, at least it seems to remember the setting once it's set. It's a good browser anyway, I keep going back and forth between the normal browser and it, can't decide which one I like better. Both are good.

What are you talking about? I set defalt browser to desktop a month ago and it still shows as desktop.
That's not the same thing - that just renders in desktop mode. Sites can (and some still) redirect you to an m. version. The difference being major HTML/CSS /JS(Q) etc. Optimization for mobile browsing is still a concern for a lot of Web developers.
You can set to render Desktop but the sites that check mostly doesn't care what you have it set at. If you don't meet its criteria for a Desktop browser they will redirect you to a m. version (IF they have that functionality in place - not all sites do)
EDIT***
I'd also like to add that the the UserAgent setting not being permanent is in all likelihood a Honeycomb bug. Nobody can get it to stick using the stock browser however it works flawlessly on 2.x OS versions.
I just went into the browser settings, under advanced, changed to desktop and I don't get the mobile sites anymore.

As i say in the title, after the last update i have an issue with the browser and i can see many websites in mobile mode only. In the settings i have (as usual) user agent = desktop !
I have :
1) cleared the cache
2) done a cold boot
3) changed user agent in mobile mode - reboot - changed again in dektop mode - reboot
but without a positive result -_-
Please tell me anything i can do. Thanks.
P.S.
I'm not the only one with this issue, according with comments seen in some blog...
Same here
:/
But where is or when come out the solution ?
Asus knows this issue ?
The only solution I have had is to switch browsers. I find that one must have the stock browser as well as Opera and Dolphin, at a minimum. Each one seems to see the same site in different ways
Same here. Browser in general seems less buggy and much faster but many websites, such as the Gawker family, seem to be trying to force mobile no matter what now. In fact setting user agent to tablet seems to fix this for some sites while desktop works for others or neither work.
Same here too. It's very annoying and I don't see any improvement in the stock browser. Still loads web pages slowly and I can still see blocks when scrolling on some sites.
Otherwise SuperNote is nice but it's not enough to make the update worthy.
I agree Nikola ! Browser is same as before but with this issue.
I use Maxthon browser for now...i hope this bug will be solved sooooon.
How the hell is it that Google, the author of the best browser around (Chrome), can screw up the Android built-in browser so bad?!!?!??!
Geez - as hard as I tried, I just cannot use it as my default browser any more... Back to Dolphin!
I accidently found a fix by flashing the Circle battery/Xoom button file.

Google has, but NY Times does not.
For NY Times (international access) the quickest way is to select the "Site help" link and from that page the "Go to home page". That brings up the desktop view of the home page.
Too bad we have to apply all sort of tricks when it's Google that didn't test enough before releasing updates to the browser.

Right...however NY Times opens in the desktop version on both Opera and Dolphin
If you are fortunate enough to have rooted your Transformer then you can apply my fix that I posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18053134&postcount=469
For Users that do not have root, given that Asus added the new user-agent url lookup thing then I hops they will soon do something on their server so that the Desktop setting brings up Normal web pages and not mobile ones.
I see NYT in full without any tricks. Some sites were pushing mobile versions, but after finding link for full version on each one everything is fine.
However, new browser brings drop down button with back/forth/reload buttons, so you don't need to scroll from bottom to top for them. Big thing. Also I found option for openning new tab in background, although I am not sure if it was there before.
What I need (besides more speed) is back/forth history on long press, so I can jump several pages. And a spell checker.
I would also like content of browser to be preserved in memory when I am using another application. Android is too aggresive in clearing memmory, flushing to storage should be used.
Thanks Roach, you are indispensable.
Then a new firmware is not needed because, as noticed, sometime a website goes on mobile mode and sometime goes on desktop mode.
Right ?
