How is the stock experience for this tab? I want to be able to get the latest market movie rentals to show. I heard this is not allowed when rooted. Any alternatives? Does netflix work?

Stock experience is, IMHO - pretty damn good. Some people have reported issues with the GPS, microphone, and low wifi signal strength.
I have had none of these problems. My tab is running 3.1, rooted, with cwm installed - market movie rentals work fine.
Netflix is not officially supported yet - but as of a few days ago the awesome XDA community managed to release a patch that allows Netflix to work. You will need to be rooted.
wouldyou mind explaining how to use the patch for netflix?
head over to Android Police - they have a mirror for the APK file - all hacked ready to go - worked for me first time - nothing to do but download the file and click to install

its not. its 10.2.156.12. try uninstalling then reinstalling.
works flawlessly. smoother than the previous version.
good job adobe/google
before i used to get really choppy playback on www.traileraddicts.com
all smooth now. im one happy droider
Currently it displays 10.1 in the market from the tablet but if you click install, another window comes up and shows 10.2 and it works!
Is anyone else who installed it having problems getting it to work?
I installed it from the market, but nothing happens in the browser (Both dolphin and stock).
I opened the apps list and it's not even running. There's no way to open it up and start it. Rebooting didn't help.
What am I doing wrong?
10.2.156.12 -- that shows up after the install.
just installed, market info is outdated, works fine though!
Sweeet.
Tested against the 'top flash sites' of 2011, all are working great!
delete please~

smooth playback and scrolling
Ok. Got it to work after clearing my browser cache.
Strange.
Anyways, I just watched a couple of trailers on traileraddicts. So much better than the leaked version, but I can't wait for 720p playback!
Installed by using push from market.android.com
Works really well from several discovery.com shows as well as full screen without jerking. So far so good.
Works good. Would be nice to have full resolution video from these sites instead of mobile resolution.

Got it. Didn't remove everything from the leaked flash player, left the lib file. Installed fine once I removed that

If you have the leaked version you must uninstall first. Or you'll get install error. Just a heads up.
What is the best way to uninstall when it doesn't show in the market?

I have the (unofficial) Netflix app for Android here, I heard that the servers have been opened now so it should theoretically work; I am going to test it and report back.
(Attached below)
*Edit: I have tested this app and it runs however when trying to stream a movie it will display a message along the lines of "your device is not supported"
No go
I'm getting a force close upon login using this apk. Anyone else having better luck?
Uninstall and reinstall worked for me

I found another .apk in a different thread com.netflix.mediaclient-1.apk 5.44mb and I have the same issues. Gives the your device not supported. Does let you log in and seems to be stable, but can't view any movies. Everytime you try it just comes back saying device not supported.
only streams on 5 phones not ours

Did that too and still get the force closed upon signing in... are you on stock(besides rooted)...
I got the "device not supported" message, but was able to get a login screen after waiting a few seconds. I logged in, but can't stream.
maybe we can edit one of the lib files inside the apk? much like was done on the Adobe Flash Player lib file to enable hulu playback on our phones. I don't know how to do this, but an idea nonetheless.

im new to the android thing but would changing the fingerprint in build.prop file be enough to trick the app into thinking the phone is supported?
havent tried it myself yet..
They got it to work on nook color by just editing the build.prop
ro.product.model=HTC Vision
ro.product.manufacturer=HTC
And then rebooting.
Has anyone else tried this?

Just tried this , not working I only changed the two fields you suggested but not working, there are lot of other fields that can be changed, I made a back up of my original so I will play around with it
Does anyone have a netflix account that I can use to try to see if I can access it from my phone? I will not change any account information.

same here...it just craps out
I also tried "T-Mobile G2" and that failed as well
any other strings we can try for other devices are supported at the moment?
1. HTC Incredible with Android 2.2
2. HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2, 2.3
3. HTC Evo 4G with Android 2.2
4. HTC G2 with Android 2.2
5. Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3
(I don't think any of the above have similar enough hw to the tegra board we have)
I did notice there is 5 .so files device{1-5}.so when you unzip the .apk file. I tried mucking with .js files to force the app into accepting a device string instead of polling the device but I'm failing at creating a workable apk file.
I used apktool and auto-sign but when I install my modified apk (even if it's just repacked) it fails to run...i'll leave that for another day; i've got much to learn in the android world....

the official app is out on the marketplace now. check it out, only works on 5 phones though and mines one of them. IT HAS NO BUGS AT ALL,no lag what so ever. biggest boom in the market in quite a while
Well, we all know by now that Netflix streaming isn't working with Gingerbread + Sense on our Evos, but now it looks like Netflix pulled the app entirely from the market for us. I've tried searching for it on my phone, and it doesn't show up. When I searched for it in the market on my computer, it says my device isn't compatible.
I hope this means they took it down to fix it, not that they're dropping support for us completely...
Netflix has already told us they are working on a fix. Check twitter or call them. Guy on phone told me their engineers are working with HTC to get this resolved.
I noticed that too, I figured there will be an update soon or theres a bug in the app.
Yeah, it was on there long enough for me to install it, now it's not on there, or on my list of installed apps.
And when an app isn't compatible with the os version you are running it wont show up in your app catalog. The are 3.0 only apps and apps that aren't available in the US that we never see.

haha i didn't update and checked and its gone even from my market.
thankfully still works. I'd imagine by the time my rom gets the update netflix will have the fix in place. Shouldn't take them too long to fix the app. It's clearly a Netflix problem as their app checks the device before allowing streaming to work. Would think that since they are currently specific to device and OS combo's that they only need to add the EVO on 2.3.3 to the accepted list in a sense....
Yeah, Evo is removed now under list of compatible devices.
Thursday... i tried a GB+sense3 ROM... i found the Netflix app in the market.
but was not able to try it.. due to bad data connection.
because of other issues... i went back to WarmZ (froyo with sense)
just checked to see.. and netflix is not there!
glad i still have it

Seems to be similar to the Netflix app. Only support for certain devices. SNS obviously is one of them.

Do you use a hosts file to block ads? make sure none of the listings include *hulu*
If the ads are not able to load than it will sit and buffer than tell you you have a connection issue.
