Has anyone else had issues calling outside of the Sprint network on CM7? I flashed the stock EVO ROM and after an hour or so I was able to make calls. However, when I restore my backup, still no calling outside the Sprint network.. (and not even in the network at times.)
Thank you,
SC
Have you tried wiping cache/davlik and re-flashing CM7?
I havent had any problems with Cyanogen since I rooted in March.
Cache/Dalvik wiped but it didn't work. I'll re-flash CM7.. don't want to reconfigure anything. But, being able to actually use my phone I guess is a good thing. lol

I am going to try and wipe data as well... if that doesn't work... back to the stupid sense rom.
I think I might cry.

<--- This guy is going to cry. Flashed CM7 and wiped data... No dice. I'm going to do some more work on it to try and figure out what's going on.

I'm going to bet you are having network issues in your area. The fact it took an hour for it to even work after flashing a sense rom tells me right there it isn't rom related. Best bet is to restore your cm7 nandroid and see how it is in the morning.

Good. Time to go back to a ****Sense rom so I can apply it.

have you noticed any significant benefits ?
Is there a way to do this on CM6?
nope - you need to flash a sense rom or a nandroid of one to be able to do this - but you can flash right back to cm6

Nandroiding to a stock sprint sense rom will require a wipe, or no. What about Nandroiding back to cm6, wipe or no?
How often do they do this?
Thanks
With 60671 I get a lot of 1x instead of Ev in the times I usually get maybe 1 bar of Ev. In general I see a lot more 1x than I did before.

Yes it does require a wipe... the great thing about nandroid is you can always go back and even tho you wiped your nandroid will bring it back but you don't need to wipe to apply a nandroid. So always keep a sense rom in backup so you can get prl and pri updates.

Complete opposite here, I used to sit on ~70-75dB signal strength. Now I stay around ~67-72dB

Hey everyone. I'm having issues with my wifi disconnecting a lot on my myTouch 4G, which is a pretty big problem for me considering I don't get great signal in my apartment so I rely on Wifi Calling. I've updated my router firmware (Linksys WRT54G) and have it secured with WPA2 with TKIP+AES. My phones wifi sleep policy is set to "never", and I'm starting to get a little irritated. I'm using a new SIM card so I don't believe that to be an issue. Does anyone have any ideas? I feel like I'm a pretty tech savvy person so this really gets on my nerves. Any help will be much appreciated.
What rom? What kernel?
If you are on stock... my wife had that issue. Wifi was constantly dropping. She finally let me root it and now she's in love with royal Ginger.
I tried everything I could.... was easier to just root it and go aosp.
Sorry I can't be more help, but that was my experience with stock.

Oops I'm sorry, I forgot that information isn't in my signature here on XDA yet. I'm running Stock, but I'm already perm rooted with s-off so flashing a ROM is something I've considered, but other than the wifi issue I have no problems with stock. Does Royal Ginger have a functioning wifi calling app? That's a must have for me as I live in a black hole of cell phone reception. Not one single carrier gets reception in this apartment. At best you bounce between 1 and 0 bars.
I've just wondered if maybe the wpa_supplicant file could be the culprit? Is that something that has changed in Royal Ginger or other third party ROMS, like a different version of the file?
I'm in the same boat as you. Middle of the woods here. My wifi and I both rock royal Ginger. Or CM. Depends on the day.
Wifi calling works great with royal ginger

Hmmm, maybe I should give that a try that. I already have clockworkmod recovery so it's not like I have a whole long way to go to flash RoyalGinger... Up until this point I've never been much of a ROM flasher though so I guess I better read up on all that needs to be done. I assume of course I should do a nandroid backup or two just to be safe, backup with Titanium, wipe my sd card and then flash through clockwork? Anything you'd add that I'm missing?
Thanks for your reply by the way. Wifi Calling is such a must for me that I'd hate to flash a shiny new ROM then realize it's missing.

be carefull restoring apps and data via titanium... froyo and gingerbread roms use different ext partitions and there have been some problems lately that may or may notbe related to this... im not saying it is, but this is the theory that i and other devs have been pondering
Well at first like a big idiot I restored "all" data. I realized what I'd done while it was restoring but it was too late. I did a factory reset and cleared the cache and set it up again but this time just with missing apps and data. Been smooth sailing so far but if I start to have issues maybe I'll just skip the titanium restore and just reinstall, as awful as that sounds haha.
Oops edit never mind, i miss read.
Maybe try static ip address.

Your radio, your selection of rom. I tell you this much, put on vaelpak 3.2 RC2 rom on your phone and you def won't be having those problems. Watch that evo come to life!

I have already loaded a rom sorry I should have mention that before. I have loaded the EVO ZONE rom and ClockMod Recovery. Can I flash a up to date/ better radio with out flashing the entire rom?
Just try to update profile and update prl and see if that works. You should do that after flashing.
I did it but my 3G speeds are bad. I ran a speedtest while in a good 3G service area and was getting 0.4kbps down. I would like to go back to the stock Sense rom but dummy me didnt back it up.
I'm also experiencing the same issue(s)
I totally agree with ropodope. It can definitely be the rom, I used the original Miui and noticed I had poor reception where I would normally have good reception. It could be the radio or maybe even the kernel, my suggestion would be try different roms and kernels because you can find what works best on your phone.
Good luck.

It can't be the kernel as the kernel plays no role in reception at all.

Yes you can download updated radios or previous radios to find your trouble spot. Just dl them to your sd card and flash as you would a rom or a kernel. Wipe your cache and dalvik cache first. Wait a couple of minutes to allow the radio to write the image. When done flashing, just reboot. The radios are on here. Just do a search.

You have any suggestion on getting a good radio to flash?
You should try downloading rom manager from the market. I'm sure there is a few stock evo roms on there. If you can't find a rom that is to your liking you can check the roms in the evo 4G development forums here on XDA. Be sure to read about the roms and what others are saying about the rom before you flash. A lot of the time I find that after seeing 10 to 20 people complain about the same or similar issues I wouldn't be satisfied with that rom, but that's just me.

I love my AirRave! Def great where Sprint signal isn't avail!
Here are your radios, and other nifty updates: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
As far as 3g I have tried this fix with good results:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715485
To be honest, Ive had bad reception with PRI 1.77 and 1.90. Also my roms are varying day to day i try new ones.
roms i think are good are MikZ, mikG, Evokings and other sense roms.
When I got my phone in January I had GREAT signal here at work. I noticed that after I rooted it I lost that great signal. Now I'm back to 1-0 bars all day. I think something in the rooting process screws the signal, I don't know much about it so I'm not sure what that could be. All I know is before I rooted my phone I sat at work with 3g signal in the basement of the building. After rooting I'm lucky to get 2 bars in the parking lot. I ran just the rooted stock for 2 months hoping it would magically clear itself up but of course it didn't
I've tried 3 ROMS so far. Fresh 4.0, MikFroyo & VaelPak. Of the 3 I seem to get a slightly better signal with VP.

Srf 1.2.0 or if your going for gingerbread I still like acs bamboozled
sent from my epic 4g. with the key skips.
They are ALL good. Just depends on what you want.
Why do so many people ask the same question? It is like the exact same question and nothing has changed in over a month. Best ROM is ALWAYS a matter of opinion and what works for you. Just read the threads for each ROM and find out what problems it comes with and what improvements are in there and decide if it is right for you. Some wipe all bloatware and Sprint apps, some don't, some have themes and some don't....gotta read.
Yup, its all about personal preference. Also, ROMs behave differently on each phone. I couldn't get SRF 1.0 or 1.1 to work right ever on my Epic but 1.2 works great. Yiu really have to try them out

Best that I've Used
The best ROM that I have used is the ERA OLYMPUS ROM. It feels very stable and is extremely fast. It might be a placebo but it feels like the GB ROMs are much snappier than stock Froyo. I did change out the theme on the ROM though. The Stockish ROM was cancelled but the ACE theme that is linked to on the page looks really nice. I also flashed Chris' updated EH17 Plus kernel onto this. so far I've had to redo the ROM a few times but that has been mostly due to my own negligence, such as swapping SD cards with my friend's Droid X about 20 times in one day while trying to help him fix it. One good thing is that I may only have a random reboot 2 or 3 times a day. I can deal with that. Overall I really like this ROM and it is just as good as any stock OTA GB that may come out in the future.
I haven't tried many, but I have SRF 1.2 now, and it's awesome. Well worth it to try it out IMO.
I did a search for SRF and nothing came uP??

You can flash the zip anytime, on or off. I am not sure exactly how it works, but basically with it off anytime your battery dies, or comes out or phone shuts off any way other than holding power, when you restart you will have uncontrollable force closes. With it on you lose a pinch of performance (not really noticeable) but you will not worry about the force close issue in case anything happens.
Most of us suggest having it on.

Journaling costs you a little speed but helps you data from getting corrupted in case of a bad shutdown, bad flash, battery falls out, ect. I always turn journaling on.

thanks for the response.
believe it or not, I actually haven't had any unplanned shut downs since flashing to SRF 1.2 (along w/Genocide 1.1) a few months back but, lately (as in the last few days), I've noticed that my battery performance has really dropped. in addition, my phone has exhibited some occasional flakey behavior: one in particular is making a phone call, seeing that I'm connected (call timer starts ticking away), but hearing total silence. the person on the other end receives a call from me but they can't hear a damn thing from my end. this problem is only corrected with a reboot or shut down. I was curious if my not having journaling enabled could be accounting for any of it. like I said, these issues are recent, and I do live in an area now with considerably worse Sprint coverage than before. For example, in my apartment, I can't even get a reliable Sprint signal. Without my Airvana (which has huge issues with maintaining a consistent lock onto the GPS) I couldn't even really use my phone without roaming on Verizon.
anyway, just a bunch of stuff that's been bugging me and I'm not entirely sure what to do about it.
Sometimes booting into recovery and wiping Cache partition and Dalvik Cache will free up the performance. Its my understanding that over time it can build up causing lag or stuttering..well general performance loss. Anyhow, here's the journal on zip in case you need it..

Honestly ReVolt, SRF 1.2 and Urban Regeneration are all great. Regen is themed blue with apps added and some custom sounds, ReVolt is leaner with a custom kernel based off of Genocide 2.0, SRF 1.2 has a lot of under the hood tweaks that I am not familiar with. Revolt has Hotspot hack baked in lasted version. It is a flashable add on for the other two. They are all excellent choices

ok thanks. I'll give it a shot.
I think I already know the answer to this (CM 7.2) but wanted to sanity check it here first.
My wife has a MT4G that's been running CM 7.0.0 for about the last 1.5 years (since shortly after it came out). I've never updated it since then because it wasn't broke (from her perspective) and I wasn't about to fix it.
She's an extremely light user, only has a 200MB data plan and rarely uses even 100MB of that, she uses it as a phone, to check E-Mail, a couple of light-duty apps (literally solitaire and the Pavilions (grocery store) app are the only ones I see her using) and occasionally maps/navigation.
She's been having more problems lately, with poor and inconsistent battery life, first I thought it was a bad battery but after I replaced it that doesn't seem to help. Also the phone is lagging sometimes and gets warm for no reason (part of the reason the battery life is poor I'm sure).
I figure it's time to do a wipe and re-install. I could put her on CM 7.2 but would love to get her on ICS or JB it possible.
For her stability is paramount and battery life is a close second. Obviously she uses WiFi for data most of the time, she occasionally uses the phone to listen to music or take still photos but never takes video.
Thanks for the advice.
Synthetic.Nightmare's aospx is what you want. It's ICS and mega stable.
Ordered my Nexus 4 on Nov. 13th. Still waiting.
You may need to update the radio
. Clear the cache dalvik cache and then if problems still persist reflash the rom of your choice. these are just procedures that will keep the device running nice. Assuming you have multiple radios to choose from you may experiment for the best result or choose the newest radio modem that is usually the best.

Yeah that is a factor as well, I went through several radios on my G2 because I had a hard time finding a good balance between working GPS and working HSPA+, but radios are the kind of thing I don't like to mess with unless I need to (my G2 and both my wife's and son's MT4G are still on the factory HBOOT for that reason)
Of course at this point in the phone's life replacing it wouldn't be crazy expensive if I bricked it.
Also, on the rom, unless you are dead set on a ICS or JB rom, i suggest staying on gingerbread, like a miui build or something. Otherwise, synthetic's aospx is the way to go
