Hey. Im just wondering which custom rom is thew best right now?
Srf 1.2.0 or if your going for gingerbread I still like acs bamboozled
sent from my epic 4g. with the key skips.
They are ALL good. Just depends on what you want.
Why do so many people ask the same question? It is like the exact same question and nothing has changed in over a month. Best ROM is ALWAYS a matter of opinion and what works for you. Just read the threads for each ROM and find out what problems it comes with and what improvements are in there and decide if it is right for you. Some wipe all bloatware and Sprint apps, some don't, some have themes and some don't....gotta read.
Yup, its all about personal preference. Also, ROMs behave differently on each phone. I couldn't get SRF 1.0 or 1.1 to work right ever on my Epic but 1.2 works great. Yiu really have to try them out

Best that I've Used
The best ROM that I have used is the ERA OLYMPUS ROM. It feels very stable and is extremely fast. It might be a placebo but it feels like the GB ROMs are much snappier than stock Froyo. I did change out the theme on the ROM though. The Stockish ROM was cancelled but the ACE theme that is linked to on the page looks really nice. I also flashed Chris' updated EH17 Plus kernel onto this. so far I've had to redo the ROM a few times but that has been mostly due to my own negligence, such as swapping SD cards with my friend's Droid X about 20 times in one day while trying to help him fix it. One good thing is that I may only have a random reboot 2 or 3 times a day. I can deal with that. Overall I really like this ROM and it is just as good as any stock OTA GB that may come out in the future.
I haven't tried many, but I have SRF 1.2 now, and it's awesome. Well worth it to try it out IMO.

You can flash the zip anytime, on or off. I am not sure exactly how it works, but basically with it off anytime your battery dies, or comes out or phone shuts off any way other than holding power, when you restart you will have uncontrollable force closes. With it on you lose a pinch of performance (not really noticeable) but you will not worry about the force close issue in case anything happens.
Most of us suggest having it on.

Journaling costs you a little speed but helps you data from getting corrupted in case of a bad shutdown, bad flash, battery falls out, ect. I always turn journaling on.

thanks for the response.
believe it or not, I actually haven't had any unplanned shut downs since flashing to SRF 1.2 (along w/Genocide 1.1) a few months back but, lately (as in the last few days), I've noticed that my battery performance has really dropped. in addition, my phone has exhibited some occasional flakey behavior: one in particular is making a phone call, seeing that I'm connected (call timer starts ticking away), but hearing total silence. the person on the other end receives a call from me but they can't hear a damn thing from my end. this problem is only corrected with a reboot or shut down. I was curious if my not having journaling enabled could be accounting for any of it. like I said, these issues are recent, and I do live in an area now with considerably worse Sprint coverage than before. For example, in my apartment, I can't even get a reliable Sprint signal. Without my Airvana (which has huge issues with maintaining a consistent lock onto the GPS) I couldn't even really use my phone without roaming on Verizon.
anyway, just a bunch of stuff that's been bugging me and I'm not entirely sure what to do about it.
Sometimes booting into recovery and wiping Cache partition and Dalvik Cache will free up the performance. Its my understanding that over time it can build up causing lag or stuttering..well general performance loss. Anyhow, here's the journal on zip in case you need it..

Honestly ReVolt, SRF 1.2 and Urban Regeneration are all great. Regen is themed blue with apps added and some custom sounds, ReVolt is leaner with a custom kernel based off of Genocide 2.0, SRF 1.2 has a lot of under the hood tweaks that I am not familiar with. Revolt has Hotspot hack baked in lasted version. It is a flashable add on for the other two. They are all excellent choices

Where's Baked Snack?

Sorry everyone! Perhaps a moderate/admin can delete this Post/Poll so I can create one with all the ROM's appropriately.
I think it would be EXTREMELY helpful to have an active indefinite Poll for users to grade all these ROM's, it would help in the selection process...

Yeah, no love for ACS?
Only thing holding me back from Syndicate right now is that every other post in the thread is someone having some issue with the rom. Been monitoring it nonstop, because they seem like they are bringing the premier rom to XDA for the Epic, but not gonna switch from EE until some issues are smoothed out.

All reproducible bugs are fixed in 1.0.1a, except the harmless Airplane Mode FC and the Service Mode FC (which is only seen if you so desire to go there!) - both of which are not present in Fully Loaded, as it includes TouchWiz.
If you read through the thread, almost all of the issues people have had were due to Clockwork, Titanium Backup, or an SD card that needs formatting. Everything else, like I said above, is fixed - and if you do have any issues (which I assure you, we do not anticipate), just post, and we'll help right away.
I think you'll also find that there are plenty of people needing help with issues in other ROM threads.

That's in the kernel - DevinXtreme is looking at it - and only at 1.6ghz (and even then, only for some people!). See the Xtreme Kernel thread for more. The kernel defaults to 1ghz, and the ROM does not change that. 1.2ghz is known stable (well, so is 1.6 - minus the odd vibration for some) - and Devin is in the process of adding even more steps (1.3/1.4ghz for example if I recall correctly).

It's worth installing, I personally have my phone clocked at 1.6 when it's plugged in and it's never once not woken up, or vibrated strangely. Then again, when I flashed I formatted my sd, data, dalvik, you name it.
Baked Snack is the only one that I've tried since its been very stable for the most part. Launcher Pro quits on me every now and then but I believe that its a problem with the app itself.
Hello all,
I was on the phone with T-Mobile yesterday morning and their Rep. told me that they released an upgrade for Vibrant a few days ago. He gave me this link to download a program on my computer which will help me through the upgrade.

Let me know if someone tried it already and also I am looking for a link on how to flash my phone back to stock because I am trying to restore it since yesterday but it gets stack on the 'stock' loading screen. Im currently running Axura 2.2.5.9
Thanks

Well, most of the Froyo builds around the dev section are based on the official build, but with the bulk and crap stripped.
What is the best Rom atm? Is Bionix better than axura? Im kind of new to these things any help will be appreciated
Go on general section and check out my review a rom for noobs thread.
The update they gave is... Laggy... So much lag...
There is no best rom. Just try a few and see what you like. What suits you best is what you should use. I'm on flagship now, after being a long term bionix user. I'd recommend avoiding the latest bionix for now as it contains a secondary bootloader which can potentially brick your phone.

This guy is saying what I am thinking.
I decided quite a while ago that I was going to read as much as possible and decide on a ROM/Dev to stick with. Mainly because IMO you run into far less problems because the dev team is working from a previous release, and they aren't going to have any thing that conflicts with their own stuff when upgrading. Went from Nero v4.1 to v5 to bionix and have had zero issues.
The only time I ever had a problem was when I tried to use that miserable mini Kies to flash the stock 2.2 release. HUGE mistake.

shutphone off, take battery out, pull out the sim card, and reinsert it again. install battery, and power on phone.

I was on axura 2.2.5.9 and flashed back to stock and installed 2.2 via minikies and played with it for a day. Nothing 'wow' about it at all. Infact everything about it felt slower.
Flashed back to axura and loaded 2.2.7.1 and was really amazed at how fast and cool it is. Awesome boot up/shut down screen and and the app drawer isnt filled with crap I never use.
Mods are so much better compared to stock. Check out the review on Axura 2.2.7 by Devs4Android on YouTube.

Thanks, was wondering what would be a good ROM for my sisters Vibrant
DARKYY'S ROM FOR SGS VIBRANT
Darky made his ROM flashable for ALL SGS series.
Don't just flash this like ANY OTHER ROM.
*WARNING IF YOU DON'T READ THIS WHOLE THREAD YOU WILL SOFT/HARD BRICK*
FIRSTLY, download this: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.darkyrom.darkyconfig
It's called the "DARKYROM CONFIGURATOR" its in the market.
In the App, make sure that these are the settings,
The Modem and Kernel, set them both to NO MODEM, and , SKIP KERNEL
Now download the ROM, and put it in your SD Card.
Go back into Darkyrom config. App.
Now click menu, then SELECT ZIP AND FLASH
It will ask for SuperUser allow it.
It will now boot into Recovery and start Flashing it, it will take a while its a 250MB file.
After flashing is done, it will take a longer-than-usual time to reboot.
It will open.
If you see your PREVIOUS ROM WALLPAPER, SETTINGS ETC...
boot into recovery by using power button, and wipe/factory reset.
Now it should be okay..
-NOTE-
you do NOT have to disable voodoo, well, i didn't and i'm having no problems because of that.
*PROBLEMS*
It Sometimes Randomly reboots, but gives a vibrate as a warning?
It randomly vibrates sometimes... but doesn't always reboot.
Some people may experience all the SD Card Wiped or their music/gallery/etc erased
I will upload some pictures in the second post, through the phone it self.

Wiping solves some problems ull face. Trust me.
Nice of you to start a topic.
The RESTART/Vibrate bug you are refering to is the SAME bug that Jellette/Heathen was experiencing when he was trying to port an i9000 ROM in Ragnarok. He tracked the issue to be caused by the signal. Yes, the SIGNAL strength of the network causes the reboot. It happens when this signal reaches a certain value. Then phone goes crazy and reboots. That's about it. There is still no known solutions to this.
HOWEVER, Eugene beleives he found the file and settings which are causing it. I have PMed Darkyy and he will be looking into the issue when he's back from vacation (currently hes heading out for a few days). I believe jellette/Heathen may also be working on the issue once he gets his replacement phone.
I hope this helps. And yes. Darkyy' ROM is FAMOUS. I don't need to say more about it haha. When/if it works, it will be AMAZING.
If other devs want to jump on this to try and fix it, it would be very very appreciated. This ROM is just too good to pass up
Not to mention, ALL themes from the I9000 forums WILL work with this after it is working on our Vibrants. Go take a look at the I9000 forum, there are literally TENS upon TENS of amazing themes for it.
For the email FCs, it was enough to wipe its data in TitaniumBackup. however, I had issues receiving calls till I wiped/factory reset my phone. Very satisfied so far.

how long is the longer than usual? i tried it last night and i guess it got stuck on a bootloop and kept vibrating too in the bootanimation "darky's rom" for about half and hour
I tried 9.2 extreme edition when it first came out. Super fast, I really liked the presentation, pulled out all the stops with animations and transparent elements sprinkled around. Couldn't get over the nagging bugs though, like the capacitive buttons being mapped all wack, didn't have an effective home button, both home and back functioned like the back button. Also the volume was reversed, and I didn't have sound in certain apps. Also had to flash a US modem, you should mention that in your post, I know it say's choose no modem, but you should mention later to flash one that works.
Used it for a few days like that actually, because it was still super slick and useable...even without the home button lol. But I didn't see it randomly reboot even once.

You'll get lots of differing opinions, here's mine. (I know that this won't make any friends here)
None of the current batch of ROMS is solid yet. They each have a fatal flaw. I've tried a few but ended up back on stock EB13 with the camera fix kernel flashed over it. And frankly if you flash stock EB13 using the Samsung installer it's pretty good right out of the box.
And, regardless of what people tell you flashing an Epic is not trivial for a noob. Just read all the frantic posts from people trying to figure out why their phone won't boot. Before you get started be sure you know what Odin is and how to use it (and which PIT files go with which PDA files), what the difference between EXT4 and RFS is and which version of clockwork you can use with each, and what deodexed means. There are enough variable that you have to get right that a little knowledge can save you hours, maybe days of wasted time.
If you have to try one, read the WHOLE thread before flashing and see what's now working yet. If you decide that doesn't matter to you, flash away.

Good advice here.
Regarding roms, I have to say that I think the new SyndicateROM Frozen 1.0 (1.0.1 is almost out) is a solid replacement from stock. People have had issues with bad flashes (thx CW3) but once it's installed properly the battery lasts hours longer, it's incredibly quick, and has a number of improvements over stock. Keep in mind I wasn't using roms before this due to requiring the stability of stock (was on the stock rooted EB13), but am in heaven since I switched over. The rom is amazing. None of the instability issues I have had with my previous phones+roms.
I haven't tried the Bonzai rom though, heard that was stable and good as well.

Agreed. SyndicateROM seems to be the best and most stable ROM right now. That is until CM7 is done. Then everyone will burn out to Gingerbread.
By the way...did you go with Ext4 or RFS?
I have not had any issues with viper frozen or trulyepic. Trulyepic was my first. Very simple both flashy and stable. Ext4 is super fast too.

Also been on Viper for the last few releases. Have not had issues as of yet. You'll get quite a few opinions, but all the devs here do a great job on their roms.
Samsung Epic ViperROM 4.0.4 Genocide kernel
I intend on trying multiple roms......right now I am on the sideline waiting for some of the significant issues (ie CIQ) to be resolved before I flash. Only a day or two away I believe.
When I first came to the Epic modding world, I started off using ViperRom. ViperRom has a lot of those cutting edge, sometimes experimental, mods. The new toys (and their themes are generally aesthetically pleasing) are nice, but may cause stability issues. I then switched to MidNightRom and was VERY pleased with it. It is based off the Bonsai ROM and is slimmed down for performance and stability. No complaints there, But I am currently using the ACS Frozen ROM, and I am VERY pleased with it as well. Speed and performance all around. So far, that is all I have tried.
Everything will vary based on user, but all the devs here put a lot of work into what they do and any ROM you flash will be an upgrade from stock in my opinion.
Try Frankenstein. I prefer bare.

Right now midNightROM with the Baked 2.0 kernel is really smooth for me....but a lot of good stuff right around the corner!

Midnight has always been good, and the next versions of Bonsai and Syndicate are both looking real interesting, I wish they'd drop already. I've been sitting on the sidelines using stock EB13 waiting for them. Should be out any minute now.

I think I'll try bonsai and then try others and compare because it might be personal preference also and at the same time I really appreciate everyone's input and will put everyone's advice to good use! You all are awesome

Don't forget about Supernova. Been running it for 4 days and only have 1 problem. On you tube it plays the sound through the ear speaker not the louder speaker.
I think they have a new Rom coming soon and will give it a try.
I've been a fan of ACS for a long time. Back to DI18.
I will move to it probably after the next release when the mail client works.

I was talking to my daughter on the phone tonight and she got the following message on her phone
"Charging paused. Battery temperature too high or too low"
Unfortunately I don't have the phone with me to inspect it further until tomorrow
The phone is rooted and running EF02
I just got it at the beginning of last month brand new phone and battery
30 days are almost up in a couple more days
I need to decide if i'm going to odin back to stock and return it or ask for a new one
I searched in the epic forums here and didn't find a thread on this exact subject
I am just worried that this could be potentially dangerous. It's obviously a safety feature so something definately isn't right. I realize there are tons of battery issues for this phone.
If anyone else has experienced this or has a solution please let me know
I will give more details tomorrow when I inspect the phone
That's really nit that serious...it just pauses charging when the phone gets to hot...plain and simple no harm done....and your really still running DK28 lol, EC05 and our EF02 leaks are pretty good you should try them out

Edited post Sorry it actually is on EF02
Through my experience of owning a **** load of android phones
I have never seen this once.
Obviously something isn't right.
Her old phone was a Vibrant and I had a Nexus S as my last phone and neither one have ever seen this message and trust me I used the hell out of my nexus and felt it get so hot that it almost would burn you I even thought the screen might crack.
Point is I'm not a noob and I am looking for a real answer not some douche answer.
I personally will never buy a samsung phone again for myself but my daughter loved her vibrant so I told her I would get here pretty much the same phone.
It can't be that common because I didn't see any other posts about this for it being such an old device.
If stability and everything working are your main goals, I would use one of the great EC05 releases that are on here. The Gingerbread ROMs are great but there are still some kinks to be worked out. I use the Gingerbread ROMs some and test for developers and themers frequently but Froyo is still my daily use ROM. The purple CWM 3.1.0.1 makes it easy to switch between the two.

Thank you
I do use that as the current recovery on the epic and I do have a nandroid backup of rooted 2.2. I have considered restoring it to this.
I can tell your experience with the epic is far more advanced than others just by the way you explained it. I Cook rom's for HTC phones such as the first evo 3d rooted rom in the Evo 3d forums.
I have never cared to learn about the rfs stuff so I don't know much about samsung roms though I have flashed the best of them like bionic V with Voodoo Lagfix as well as manually converting rfs to ext4.
It's people like you that make xda what it is and the reason I have been here for years.
And you are right down the street from me. Gotta love cali

Take your panties out of a bunch...as soon as I heard DK28 I thought you were a rookie who'd been stuck on that leak since it came out...but now were updated and up to par so we can talk like 2 experienced users ****-boi (response to your douche comment hd to get that out).
Its a feature on the epic that like you said isn't that common among high-end smartphones lately...I think I rmbr it being removed along with the battery full pop up mods in a couple of the old Eclair and Froyo DK28 ROM's...but its actually a good feature especially with temperatures above 50 degrees C, assuming you know the negative effects of frequent overheating....but at the end of the day if its someone who knows these things it can be a distraction.

I've seen this charging message on the EF02 releases myself. Not sure if it's actually getting that hot, or if it's just another EF02 bug.
I've als gotten this error once or twice. Let it cool and it will charge up propper. For me I thought it had something to do with the phones attempts to get the OTA modem update to EF10 constantly. I could very likely be mistaken. I ended up wiping my phone and reinstalling the ef02 roms and modem from Decadence

I appreciate the kind words. I know my role here. I don't have enough skills yet to develop but I definately have enough knowledge to help others out. If anyone has any questions about getting set up, just PM me.

its one of the symtoms in ef02 rom. After low signal/ roaming phone start overheating and with very slow 3g speed. Ec05 rom doesn't have that problem

I've legitimately gotten this warning a few times - while the phone was charging in my car dock attached to my windshield on a sunny day. The phone was quite hot when I pulled it out of the dock, so I'm certainly glad the feature is there.
This was on an SRF ROM, not sure which, since it hasn't happened sometime before I updated to 1.2.

The battery sensors are not right in ef02, atleast not on my phone. I use the battery monitor widget, and it shows sensor data.. and its not aright a lot of the time.

EE03 and EF02 are both riddled with bugs. Stick with EC05 or if you want gingerbread go to EG22.
I got this a ton of times with eeo3
I was using my phone while charging
Eeo3 already had over heating problems plus the fact I was charging it too was much
But no problems on efo2
Just tell your daughter not to play with it and charge it at the same time
(off topic) god I hate this new crappy swype
The old one was better
I did about thirty corrections on this one post

EF02 + Ef10 modem. I dont know if the problem was fixed in the lastest leak EG22 or with the latest modem (whatever that is).
I'm on SGS but the problem is the same. I agree with not to overheat the battery but this message is very very annoying. I use my phone in my car to navigate, and of course this message appears just in the worst moment. And not just once... I press OK, and it appears again and again. Other non-stock ROMs solved this problem by simply stop charging and not sending this message again and again.
So is there any way to eliminate this message?
