Hey all.. am definitely a noob.. i was just throttle, i have a mytouch 4g(unlimited everything) so they say. they shouldve throttle my text msg usage rather than my hsdpa.. isnt there a / an easier way to unthrottle my data speed maybe with an app or doing something else.. i read up on the steps.. From the original listed steps posted it says you have to be unthrottle before you apply the change.. so it wouldnt make sense to try it.. my phone isn't rooted yet.. i was thinking about using visionary+... please, please help in anyway possible... at least something fairly easy... thanks
first things first, when does the new billing cycle start? if it's just a few days away, you may not want to dive into rooting if you are not familiar with it..
secondly, if you read the throttling thread, you will see a few had success of getting unthrottled after being throttled. Cant confirm this, but I would say worth the try..
New billing cycle start every 7th of the month....its just frustrating when i listen to Pandora or trying to download something, its soooo slow.. especially Pandora... i mean i was kinda embarrassed, because at my job i hooked up my phone to the speaker so when all can listen to music instead of repeated songs from radio... but it just started cutting the songs, slowing down and skipping... and yes i do have Pandora One...even if i cant do the service.jar mod, if i could just modify my phone a little and do get some data boost that would be lovely................
however, i also tried using visionary to temp root my phone and root explorer to modify the "build.prop" still no luck... but funny after changing the values after i reboot the numbers go back to the same....just frustrated....
Thanks for your response......
And a funny thing happened last billing cycle, when i was throttled down, A/(one) day before the new cycle started i was unthrottled, but what i did was something somebody did, the switched to edge(gsm) for a day or so, then switched back to gsm/wcdma auto.. and claimed it worked for them...i tried for about 2days and i did a speed test, found out my speed was unthrottled( and this was a day before my new billing cycle started)..
The easiest thing to do would be to upgrade your data package, I'm currently on a 10 gig/month plan. Also, store some music to your phone and play from that.
Lastly, use wifi when you can.
Hope this helps.

I give up... just going to deal with the disappointment.. anyway.. thanks all..
Just move over to Sprint. I used 10 gigs yesterday downloading torrents! Ha! Those build.prop and classes.dex solutions never worked for me and i was rooted. Save yourself the frustration. But maybe it will work for you some ppl had success.
i kinda try those two things but no real luck....but one thing i've come to find out is that it all has something to do with the sim card... if i can find a way to reset the data reading on my sim card then am good...yeah i still have a whole year before my contract is up...sprint seem to be on top of their game....
Nvm
-Figured i needed a signature for my phone. This is it......
lol...
well, ill keep trying things...i know there is a way to do this, not just on there end..damn
I also mean i'm open for ideas...things that have worked for you.. please post them...eg(changing apn, removing sim card over night etc)...thanks
Hey.. since most of us have already upgraded to Gingerbread and there's no official way to root your phone with gingerbread.. even with visionary etc... has anyone been throttled and how well does this app really work.(how many ppl have used it and can say it really works under gingerbread. thanks)> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16369920
tried it but no such luck on my end, but I used it after being throttled, will try again in the next billing cycle before being throttled
when you was throttled, did your speed get very low.. say 56k or you had some improvement?
no improvement just did a speed test I'm at 31kbps
I don't care what anyone say.. when they throttle you.. edge, 3g, 4g.. all gets throttled.

Stop using so much data is a good way not to be throttled. wifi is an option as well.
If you are sucking so much data that you use the 5gigs they give you a month then honestly you deserve to be throttled back. Trying to bypass the throttle will led to caps and more cost in the end.
Just my two cents.

Are you kidding me.. compare to someone in this forum who actually used 40+gb of data in a matter of one billing cycle and has 5gb unlimited plan..lol...the most I've ever used is 9gb of data...shoot. if am paying for unlimited I shouldn't be throttle.. just waiting for my contract to be over maybe.. just maybe ill switch to sprint..

you think it was the process that unthrottled you or is it a possibility they unthrottled you early? cause i need this i get throttled every month! lol last billing cycle idk what happened if they forgot me or something but i spent the whole billing cycle and half of the new one throttled i had to call for them to refresh it

yea im thinking same right now Sprint is the only one that gives true unlimited service but their rates are ridiculous. Im guessing tmobile got alot of complaints regarding their use of the word unlimited n leaving out the detail that its not really unlimited cause in the new commercial the guy who talks fast kinda like the fine print mentions the throttle after 2gb or 5gb of data its 20$ extra for 5gb. they got a new plan tho 49.99 2 lines unlimited everything might wanna look into it not sure if its only for first time customers or not but if its not im all on it.

Alright, I woke up this morning to a email from AT&T saying I'm in the 5% this month.
oi41 .tinypic. com/24uxkkl. jpg
This is the data that I have used.
oi42 .tinypic. com/2132oh .jpg
Is anybody else getting these emails at such a low amount of data use?
It's pretty stupid to say that you're at the 5% when you're only at 5 gigabytes, last month I used 20 gigabytes and didn't get anything.
Also please don't respond if you're just going to say "you can start using wifi." Well I can't, because this is my only way online where I live.
I just hit 8GB when i received the email.
Yeah, they also sent me a text about an hour ago saying,
" AT&T Free Msg: Your data usage this month is in the top 5% of users. Use Wi-Fi to help avoid reduced speeds in future bill cycles. Visit www .att. com/dataplans. "
This is kinda pissing me off now.
There ought to be some sort of audit on this.. I doubt 5g is in the top 5%

Apparently, anything over 4GB puts you into that category now. Two of my friends who have AT&T got that message and only use around 3-4GB a month.
Way to go AT&T, control your customers and take away their freedoms and what they pay for.
dang 4gbs? what do yall do on a phone to acheive that?
I get to 4gb when streaming video (wink)
At&t does this to try lessen the stress on their network.
They also use this as a scare tactic when users use "free" online services...
At&t should have at least said "Anybody over 2gb, will be throttled."
I highly doubt they even looked at how much data gets used per month before putting this into effect, it's like they just tossed out anything over 2gb as the 5%.
2Gb Warning
I got the message this morning and checked my data usage and it was 2.1GB
I used 13.2GB last bill and I never got the msg.
dang how do people reach so much data use?
I don't know, but The guy I know who works for the big red thinks I used alot of data.

Pandora, netflix, downloads, etc.
It's not hard to go over 2gb in a day... or even a few hours, without tethering.
After years of using AT&T I have never once had data throttled while averaging about 5 GB a months for the past year. still waiting for AT&T to say something because its like that on both my line and my wife's line where we use a combined 10GB a month.
I got the message this morning at 2.1Gb. Funny thing is, my download speeds have actually gotten better. I used to average 2-3Mbps down, 1-1.5 up, but after 3 speed tests, I'm running 4.5-5.5 down, .75 up. Throttle my upload speed all they want, I really don't care. But I'm definitely loving this new download speed. I don't know if this has anything to do with the Cingular 410 APN I'm using on my Galaxy Nexus.
Still, I find it ridiculous that AT&T is allowed to implement this kind of system without a means of releasing their tracking methods. Using the "top 5%" is such a asinine method of choosing who to throttle. IF they went ahead and just told grandfathered customers they would throttle past a particular GB, akin to what t-mobile is doing, it would make a lot more sense. Now, we have users stating they have reached anywhere from 2-13 gigs saying they have been placed in the "top 5%". I'm filing a complaint with the BBB petitioning AT&T to give us more information on how they distinguish who is in the top 5% of data consumption and to give us a better way of tracking our data usage compared to the others placed in the top 5%.
I've gotten the message for the past couple of months. They now say they will throttle at 5gb. Either we need to come up with a work around like tmo guys did on cm7 or I'm switching to sprint. Been with them for yrs now and I used 10 to 25 gb on my old dumb phone razr.

I rooted my phone months ago and I think ever since I did, my 4G internet speeds have been very low - like .30 mbps download and .10 mbps upload according to the Speednet test.
I've tried every radio in the radio thread and even went back to the stock ROM ( rooted ) and it remained the same. Does anyone have any suggestions ?
Everything else works 100%.
Sound like you got throttled-tmo has a 5 gig cap per month before you get throttled-Check your data usage for the month. Think if you switch to 2g its a little faster, otherwise you have to wait till your next billing cycle starts
While it may sound like I'm throttled, that isn't what's goin' on cause I've talked to T-Mobile and I'm well below my 2 GB limit. I appreciate your reply anyway.
I haven't been here in a while since I got the Samsung galaxy s2.. I have to agree with you.. You are not throttled. I have been experiencing the same problem even with both phones.. I changed sim cards like three times already. So what I did was called t-mobile they filed a report to the tech engineers to check the towers and their systems will take about 72hrs. So ill be calling back tomorrow (1/16/2012)to find out if they fixed the towers like I was told..the towers might be affecting my speed.. So call them and explain to them and see if they can do the same for you...

No, close, am in nyc, close to Manhattan/Brooklyn...Just tell them a customer/friend has also called and complained about this same situation. i took off work on friday, after dr. appointment, i went to t mobile retail store and we did a test, troubleshooting etc, and nothing...so if they tell you it's your phone what do they expect you to do, exchange your phone, it's ridiculous.. i have both mt4g and samsung galaxy s2, both experiencing the same problems, i told them, actually had a small argument with them, but i'm just waiting for tomorrow and hear what BullSh*t they going to tell me...just make sure if you end up going to tmobile retail store to unroot your phone.. if they ask you to go to a tmobile store..

Can you try someone else's SIM in your phone and vice-versa? That narrows it down to the phone or the account.
Last time I went to the States when the prepaid $1.49 day pass still existed, I was being throttled from the moment I entered the country despite not even having a chance to accrue 30 MB of usage. On the second day I bought a new pass and was still throttled. I went to a T-Mobile store and they had nothing to suggest other than that they could try to reset the data (?) on my account. I wanted to try the store's SIMs in my phone or vice versa but they told me all the sample phones had their battery covers glued on so customers couldn't walk away with the SIMs due to a high-theft area.
Anyway, on that second day I used a lot despite the throttling, and in the evening I got a text that I just hit 30 MB and would be throttled. Finally on the third day, when I bought a new pass I had full speed.
No.. T-mobile has acknowledged that they have the problem.. My girlfriend also have the same problem..I will wait till its fixed..I've changed my simply card 3x already..lol

I called 'em today and just pressed the issue further. I can only think it's their network or towers around here cause when I speed test it now, it could download at 6 Mbps or 0.25 Mbps, so I'm taking that as a sign of them working on it.
I got 'em to take $80 off my bill a couple weeks ago because this is bull****. IT's a been a long time, but I never noticed cause I usually use WiFi and I just downloaded the speedtest.net app like a month ago.
I told them I don't care if they fix it tomorrow, I'm still gonna move on and do business with a different company as soon as I can. Every time I see that silly long armed ***** on their commercial boasting about their 4G speeds, I wanna close my account.
Ok so this is like the 3rd freaking time this has happened. My billing cycle reset on the 6th and my data didnt get reset. So now im throttled 11gb out of 10gb. Wtf is the deal Tmobile?? I called them but they gave me the run around and made a trouble ticket. That was 2 days ago and the problem is still happening. Web is so freaking slow that most everthing is timing out! Why do I pay $60 a month for data that is screwed? Im so fed up I am about to cancel my service!

call them and tell them that, try to stay calm but be firm and annoyed, as I'm sure you are. They will redirect you where you need to go, probably give you some kind of credit to keep you. They are desperate to retain customers so you can get what you want and they will keep you happy within reason

It's happened to me before. They have TWO servers that read your data usage. On on their "back end" systems and, one that, connects to my.T-mobile.com and that stupid My Account, app. If they don't fix it, tell them you want a $50 credit on your account AND, THEN (still, even if they give you the credit) FILE A REPORT WITH THE FCC saying that this is the third time this had happened, and, because of a glitch in T-mobile's system not only, did you pay full price for a month of data that you didn't get BUT YOUR PHONE IS ALL BUT UNUSABLE FOR DATA INTENSIVE APPS.

And they said hold on for a min. Then Tech Support got on the phone and said try using data now. And guess what? They FIXED the issue right then. WTF?? It was that easy for them to fix. And I sat here for almost 4 days with crap data service and they fixed the issue that easy. You got to be fcking kidding me. Why have me wait around for days to get the issue fixed if they could hit a button and fix it so fast! Now thats some bs. Why even make trouble tickets then. Man people these days!

Hey all, I'm thinking I'll soon take the plunge to Gingerbread. For those who have flashed already, what are your thoughts? Any pros/cons, other than the standard benefits of Gingerbread?
I'm running stock gb right now, rooted, no CWM, no themes or mods and it works fine.
Cons:
Little harder to get Root(for me anyway) , doesn't play nice with superuser so had to switch to supersu. Some issues getting busybox installed and binary updated.
Mine shows 329mb of ram, so "lost" 9mb? Hasn't seemed to cause any problems.
Pros:
Ummm... It's gingerbread
Access to apps requiring 2.3, can watch tv now!
Love the new Batt stats and ram usage stats.
Did I mention it's gingerbread?
Definitely worth it, just make sure you do the calibration backup before you flash and should be no problems.

My phone was due for an upgrade tomorrow, so I figured why not, if I break it I can get a new phone. With that being said, I have to say there isn't much in terms of appearance that let's you know it is GB instead of Froyo. There is the ability to unlock into text messages or missed calls (that could have been done via lockers, but it is a lot smoother now). My weather app never worked and all of a sudden it is working again. The most impressive thing is the speed of it. I have Holo Launcher on my phone and it always lagged when going to the home screen. I haven't had that issue yet.
A couple of notes since it was my first "hooking my phone up to the computer to change software or flash" experience. The process went quick, no hang ups or anything like that. I had to call Verizon to get my phone calls working again, don't know why that happened. And I lost my 3G connection, but once again 20 minutes on the phone it was up and running. Less than 24 hours later, I am a happy camper. I have noticed that my phone shuts off sometimes without warning. But I haven't hit the power button on top and that seems to be working for now, in other words I wait for it to turn the screen off itself.
Definitely breathed new life into my old phone.
When I used this phone if the screen wasn't on when you plugged into the charger it wouldn't wake back up. This caused my to he late for work because I had a power outage at like 2am so it stopped charging then the power came back and my phone wouldn't wake so the alarm didn't go off. That was the only issue I had with gb when I used it. However once that happened I went back to stock. Other than that it was good. What phone are you thinking of getting?

Probably the Note 2. But the problem is that I have unlimited through Verizon and if I upgrade I lose that plan. It's not so much the unlimited I am worried about, but switching to the new plan actually costs me $10 a month. Over the course of a 2 year contract that is $240. Now if I buy the phone at full price I am ok, but I can't justify spending $700 on a phone.
As far as your issue, was that on GB or Froyo? I haven't had that problem, yet.
It was just on gb. Maybe I had a bad flash. I upgraded last month to a droid dna and I love it. After this phone I am never going back to samsung for phones. 3 people on my plan had the continuum and all went to HTC. Yeah I honestly hated my continuum at some times and other times I loved it. Though I held it for 2 years I agree with you I can't justify spending that much on a phone.
As for unlimited data that didn't bother me that I lost it. I never even used more than a gig when I had unlimited 3g was so slow I used wifi a lot. 4g is very fast but I still use my wifi when I can. There is a way to keep unlimited data my friend did it when he upgraded. I think you have to make a new line with unlimited data and transfer your upgrade to a line that has it. Something like that all I know is you can Google it if you want to keep it that bad. You may also get lucky and the rep may mess up and you keep unlimited this happened to my mom when she upgraded. Other than that to me 2gb of data is plenty for me.

yeah it's not so much I need the unlimited, it's that I will be paying more a month by switching. How does that even make sense? I will be paying $10 more a month for less data. Only with Verizon right?
Me too, the way they have the changes set up I only get my corporate discount rate on my line so even though I can get base price plan equal after discounts it ends up being more expensive.

Hey guys, so I have been with Straight Talk since this phone came out, and I have had it with them. I didn't get throttled this time, they completely shut down my data. I called to ask as to how much I used so I can be aware and watch my usage next month, and they said that they cant disclose that..... WTF So i have no idea if I got throttled at 2GB or 3 or 4GB? I never received a warning either, they simply just shut me down, i thought it was my rom or something...nope. BTW i never download files to my phone and if I do i wait till I am home on WiFi... they did this to my brother too, and I have lost data several times with them on other occasions where they say that they're updating their towers(BS) but I am left with out data for up to 2 days in some cases. Now what good is a smartphone without data? Or yet how are we to know when unlimited is truly not u unlimited.
I have also looked into simply going with T-Mobile prepaid but their expensive compared to other companies for the amount of data they offer.
Anyhow I am looking for another MVNO to go to, the one that is catching my eye is Solavei because they INDICATE that they will throttle you after 4GB. My question is do they throttle you, or do they cut you off like ST?
Anyone have another company that they recommend?

Amen. I've had it with Net10 also. They shut down my wife's data completely after her family conducted a brilliant tethering experiment and she is at 730MB of 1.5 GB. She needed Navigation for a visit to the frakkin ER and had no data. I'll be hunting a new MVNO soon.
I've seen some feedback on Red Pocket, but it's $60/line for 2GB/Mo. and I've seen some complaints on that too. I haven't seen Solavei in my travels, but let me know what you decide. I'll be tracking responses to this thread for feedback.

Yep tell me about it, and when you call and ask about it, they transfer you to an automated system. In the message it says " If you would like to take your number to another provider, we will happily release it...... WOW
yeah right now I am looking into this post on this website and it looks like Solavei(uses T-Mobile) is the best one....

I have heard decent things about Solavei, worth a try. They cap 4G at 4GB which is pretty decent for a prepaid carrier.

And you are right about the "releasing your number" message line. That was enough to make me switch just on principle.

Yeah 4GB would suit us fine. Historical usage is around 1GB /month.
How much data and minutes do you need and what's your budget?
