Damn power button doesn't work and i have no way of turning it on. The reason I want to turn it on is so that i could attempt to put in the stock mt4g rom, as I called HTC and they told me that i could send it in. They did say however, that if It was running "unapproved software" that i would have to pay.
I have tried the method of turning on the phone by plugging it into the wall charger and pressing/holding the homescreen but all that does is illuminate the screen a little, but its still black. I'm running CM 7.0.3 and have the current Clockworkmod recovery. I'm hoping someone responds soon, and if i do happen to turn it on somehow, i'll still need help changing the phone back to stock bc of the fact that the power button doesn't work. Which means that i'll have to use adb, and i have no idea what that is lol.
If not, then I guess i'll just have to send it to HTC and hope they don't charge me too much. Fml.
Try taking the battery out, plugging the phone in and the putting the battery back in while the phone is plugged in. Not sure how that would help you unroot as you need to use the power button in bootloader. Maybe if you contact some devs they can write some sort of script to automate it.

Nope, that didn't work, but thx for the effort lol. If I can just turn it on, they I'll use ADB to flash the stock rom. I heard you can do anything with ADB.......
I don't understand why holding the Home button after plugging the phone is just showing the illuminating black screen, instead of booting into recovery Is it a bug in the current Clockwordmod recovery??? Can anyone else on CM 7.0.3 (clockworkmod 4.x.x mt4g) confirm this?
Anyone here??? :/
UPDATE
So I couldn't turn back on and I decided to hell with it and I sent it in hoping that HTC wouldn't charge me toomuch. About 4 days later I get the email that they were sending it back, fully repaired at no charge! Even though I had CM7 in it!
Hope this helps someone else in this situation. HTC +1 in my book :]
Thanks for the update! Check your PM

My Nexus one won't turn on. I tried flashing RADIO 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2 that I downloaded from Modaco.
After it failed to install showing the error message like
"Multiple Radio images"
and a few others I try to reboot it.
when trying to reboot it there showed a picture of a android and a orangish arrow and a box.
Help...I think I bricked it.
Help?
Please?
Can you get into boot loader? Hold down the track ball, then power on, and keep holding down the track ball...
Also, try holding down the "volume down" toggle button while powering on if the track ball method doesn't work...
If both don't do anything but take you to that same screen, let it sit on that screen for a bit, say 10 minutes just in case...
If still nothing, see what happens when you plug your phone into your computer with the data cable, is it recognized? If so, can you get ADB to recognize it?

can u get to the recovery image? if u can, its not bricked.
well I tried plugging it into the computer, I tried the wall charger, and nothing seems to work. The LED doesn't come on, and the button combination doesn't work. So I think it's dead for good. :C Before everything got screwed All I saw was a box and an arrow pointing at a android. Which I think meant it was unboxing. I then thought it froze so I tried to take the battery out, and after that it didn't turn on anymore. No LED, no recovery, no nothing. :C Quite sad.
Why the f are so many people intent on taking their batteries out while the phone is updating? I'm not saying that led to the bricking...but it probably didn't help.

This part takes a few minutes. I am not totally sure what is happening at this point but I'm assuming it's not good to remove battery during this. Mine sat on that screen for a few min and then finished.
Try to boot up with volume down button held. Then use volume arrows to choose recovery and hit power.

Everyone expects everything to be instant these days... "Uh oh! The screen isn't doing anything, it's been at least 20 seconds! I could just wait and leave it for a few minutes like all the guides say to do. Or I could take my battery out...how could that hurt, right?"
For me it took a good 3-4 minutes on the screen with the arrow and the box.
Anyways, if you can't get to the recovery then you might be buying a new N1.
ahh it took like 5 minutes for me, I have to admit I was a little worried since you dont see status bars or anything, but like said, the guides warn for this.
I cant imagine that removing the battery broke it though, he should be able to load a recovery image
I feel sad for him so bumping
Bleh. I'll just have to wait and see. I'll contact HTC.

If you remove the battery during the period he did, which is when the phone is actually flashing the radio ROM, yes removing the battery can and likely did break it for him. There are 2 ways to brick an Android device, while flashing a radio ROM and while flashing an SPL...
OP, have you tried any of the button combos we have recommended? Have you tried putting your battery in the phone, then without turning it on, putting it on the charger to see if it can charge the battery at least (you said it wasn't even turning on, which is likely because you have a dead battery)... charge the battery first, then try the button combo's we recommended.
And please, when you report back, and not to sound like an ass, do so clearly and systematically (I can't tell from your posts what did or didn't happen, and whether you tried anything we suggested, nor what the current state of the phone is)... so, please use this format to make it clear to us trying to help:
Battery: Charged or Wouldn't Charge (LED will come on if it is charging)
Trackball+Power: Booted into boot loader, yay! or Went to the damn box
Volume down+Power: Booted into fast boot! or Went to the damn box
And remember, you have to hold down the button, either trackball or volume down, then press the power and keep holding down the trackball or volume down until it either goes to boot loader or it goes to the box screen... you might want to even wait for a minute on the box screen(if it goes to that) while holding down the button to make sure it can't get into boot loader...
Okay so I took the battery out, put it back in, and tried charging it. The Battery LED did not come on, so I'm guessing it's not charging.
The Trackball+Power did not work.
The Volume down+Power did not work.
I think I most likely broke it, due to the fact that I took the battery out while it was flashing the radio ROM onto the phone. I kinda did it on a impulse, which is my fault. So do you think it'd be possible if I did contact HTC they'd send me a swap, and not be able to make my phone work or turn on, and everything will go on as if I "broke" it and not unlock it or anything?

It sounds like you have a true brick... disruption of the radio ROM flashing causes lots of bricks, and did so for you.
It is pretty common, at least with T-Mobile with the G1, to call them up and tell them your phone asked you to update, and while updating it froze and won't turn on or charge anymore. Not sure if HTC will handle it the same as T-Mobile did, but if they do they will just send you a new unit, you send the old one back, and you are back up and running... they might ask that you send it to them first, but there is no way for them to test if it was rooted/unlock boot loader if it can't be powered on, so you should be fine.
Sweet. So I called HTC, and they said they'll repair it, but I asked for a swap instead, so I'll be getting one by either Wednesday, or Thursday. Good stuff! I'll tell you all how it goes. :] Now I am stuck with my Nokia N95. Thanks for all your help.

Yeah, he doesn't have to tell them... but they don't have to cover his phone either.
If they find out it's unlocked after the fact, they can charge you to repair the phone.
How exactly will they know he unlocked the bootloader if the device cannot even properly turn on, unless htc has other methods of being able to "restore" the phone, then he should be rather ok. Am I not looking into this deeply enough? Can the phone turn on with a new battery or something? Does HTC have alternatives ways of checking?

That's my point man.. I don't know. All they have to see is that open padlock and they can deny the claim.
Hi all. I just flashed the ROM on addictive.com for Honeycomb (I can't post a link, but if you google galaxy tab honeycomb upgrade you should see it).
I used Heimdall, and it indicated the ROM flash was successful. After it was done, the yellow download screen went away and the device powered down. Now I can't get it to power back up, and I just put it on the charger and can't even get a charging light.
I've tried holding the power button for a minute, and hold the home and/or down volume keys with the power button, no luck. I'm going to leave it on the charger for a good hour or two and try to get it to boot again.
Beyond that, any ideas on troubleshooting short of calling Samsung and having them look to see if they can repair? Did the flashing of the ROM hose it from a software standpoint, or did the flashing just happen to fry the hardware?
Any ideas are much appreciated - I've only had the device about a month ...
Any one knows?
Did it specify which sgt it was for, like gsm/cdma? You may have the wrong one

My phone has syndicaterom 1.1 and visionkernel 1.2. The phone was hanging for some reason so I held the power button down and pressed reboot. It isn't turning on. The red light doesn't come on when I plug it in.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have the tep. Will they replace it without me paying anything, even though its rooted and romed? Can they even tell now?

I had same issue...but with the power off instead of reboot..but it might be related...Ive pulled battery plenty of times with no issue..but this once i decided to poweroff and this happened :/
If it were me I would yank out the battery for a minute then put it back in. Next, I would either try to boot it or put it into download mode and flash stock back in and see if it boots. If a fresh install from odin of a stock rom doesn't fix it then I suspect the phone is hosed. I don't think that's the case if I had to guess. Stock recovery and kernel and rom. Like I said, if that happened to me, that would be my next step to troubleshoot myself if the phone is bricked or what. If that doesn't fix it then I would think that it might be permanently bricked. If that was the case I would take it to a sprint repair center and tell them the phone locked up while trying to turn it off. I pulled the battery out for a minute or two and tried booting it up but nothing happened. Before you get there, take out your memory card. Don't offer any more information and don't act like you know what's going on. I did that and it worked for another phone. Be brief in explanation of what's going on, don't try and help them, keep my mouth shut and only answer questions if asked. Don't go into great details. Have a old backup phone with you to activate if they want to keep the phone to test or send back. If not, you might be without a phone for a few days.
When the replacement comes, power it up and play with it for a minute before leaving to make sure everything works and looks good. If there's a problem with the replacement phone, it would be best to point that out before leaving otherwise you will have to go through this all over again. Sometimes refurbs have flaws or stuff that doesn't work so cover yourself.
See the other thread in general about this, other people with the same problem, running the same rom/kernel configuration. Unfortunately nothing fhurricane suggested for troubleshooting worked for me. Time to go down to the Sprint store!
Please see the other thread on this topic, and please note that the ROM has absolutely nothing to do with it. Thanks!
My power button just stopped working. It is all in and will not pop up, I tried to gently pick it up with a small tool but it won't come up. I am about 2 weeks out of warranty but still Ok as I have extended warranty from my AmEx. My problem is I am getting out of town for a week next week and will be dependent on the phone. It works fine except for the power button. So I am worried that if for some reason the phone powers down I won't be able to power it up without the power button. If I find a way to do that I should be good - I put a screen lock widget and can wake it up with the touch pad (hopefully it does not die on me too ). I found one post claiming that you can power up the phone with the wall charger and the home button but am afraid to try it - if it does not work I'll be stuck with a dead phone. So, can anybody please try this and write back whether it works:
if the mt4g is off, plug it into the wall charger, after you see the "charging" light and light in the optical pad, press and hold the "home" button for a few seconds (5-10) and the phone should boot into recovery just like that, at which point you can reboot from the recovery menu
Here's the link to the post - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11581315&postcount=17
I am unrooted on 2.3.4 with the latest OTA update (2.32.531.1) if that matters.
Thanks a lot!

Darn, that's a bummer! Thanks.
I'm wondering could this be ROM dependent - work for some ROMs and not for others?
I also found one good MT4G to try it on and can confirm that it does not work.
My phone has the 11-20 build of Gummy on it, I just updated the firmware to MJA (hoping to get data) and it was running well for the past hour. I rebooted to recovery to try installing the Euroskank rom and now my phone will not turn on, it had more than 90% battery when I rebooted so I know that is not the issue. When I plug or unplug it from my computer, it will acknowledge that something was plugged in (by making a sound) but not show what was plugged in. Any recommendations as far as what I can do to fix this?

I held down the power button long enough to watch a couple plays in the Ole Miss game, pulled the battery and put it back in, no luck. I plugged it in and did not get any battery notification. I did find that by holding the power button while it is plugged into my computer it seems to power on and off on some level because it would alternate plugged in and unplugged sounds, still with nothing else being shown like the option to view files or see anything on the phone screen. Is there anything else I can do?

Not from what I can tell. The screen doesn't show anything, the LED doesn't light up. Is there a trick where I could trigger it using ODIN or HEIMDAL?
Put battery in phone and charge for 2 to 3 hours without turning phone on.
Take battery out of phone and leave it out for 1/2 hour.
Then put battery back in and see if you can get into 'Download Mode' - Hold Home Button AND Volume Down Button at same time and while keeping them held Press the Power Button till you get screen asking if you want to go into Download mode by confirming with a Volume Up press.
If you can get there maybe you can use one of the Odin/heimdal methods to recover.
Or even more simply - Odin Philz recovery and flash an MJA ROM - That's something I'd try first if you can do that.

I just charged my phone over night, pulled the battery for an hour and still no response from my phone what so ever. I would be ok with a total wipe if at all possible at this point as it does not seem to be booting at all. Could this be a bootloader issue somehow? I updated the firmware not long before this issue occurred and it booted up from that for awhile and this issue started after trying to reboot.
At this point, your best bet is to take it to Sprint and get a warranty replacement. Not much you can do if it won't turn on

Ok...just curious does anyone here have Ting and have tips about doing this through them? I don't actually have Sprint directly but use Ting.
EDIT:
For anyone following this, potentially in a similar situation, I found this service which I hope to hear back from soon, it says they can fix hard bricked phones on their site:
http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s4-jtag-brick-repair/#ProductReviews
My sister's S4, which is running stock unrooted 4.3 is going through the exact same thing. The Sprint corporate store told her that she needs to have it serviced by Samsung >.>
Why don't you make a usb jig and force it into download mode,I think I seen a video on you tube on how to make one,I haven't tried it myself but I heard they work

Just checking, didn't see this confirmed. The screen is non responsive currently, but you said that using the power button yields USB acknowledgement..
Have you tried a complete power down and boot in to Download mode (Power + Volume Down + Home) and then plugging it in and seeing if ODIN recognizes it in Com? It is possible (although not super probable) that you are experience a flash screen/screen on issue that could potentially be repaired by a reflash.. I know a lot of the 4.3 updated were experiencing lack of flash screen but if left alone the phone would still boot.
Worth a try, if you haven't already.. Stranger things have worked for me in the past.

Yeah, I've been seeing other people having similar problems after updating even on other carriers. My guess would be that the problem is related to going from 4.2 to 4.3 coupled with user data/cache of system apps and Knox, but I really have no idea. Anyway, Thanks again
Well scratch that, it's back to its usual behaviour. Could flashing via odin fix this or could it be a hardware issue? I still feel like it's related to the 4.3 update.

But it could very well be a hardware issue. I've had a couple of phone with batteries that were fairly new have this issue. Got new battery, charged and replace it and all worked.
