So finally it's available now.
However on my TyTN only values for RSSI (field strength) and RXqual are showing up.
I'm sure we will be able to fix that with the help of this kind guy, who shared this application with us [I hope he is responding].
Assumably some registry keys have to be set to invoke display of all parameters.
updated the wiki so this reaches more people and hopefully someone can help.

Hi,
I have doopod 838pro, i was trying to connect it with the QPST/QXDM (qualcom diagnostic software installed on leptop) but i cannot as the phone is detected as HTC Modem and not as dignostic COM port. Do you know if there is any driver/software/command for open the dignostic port for detect it as COM on the device manager?Any idea or other solution?
Thanks a lot,
Hi,
Im not sure you'll be able to do that.
The Qualcomm's MSM chipset on the Hermes handle the radio while the applications handled by a different processor (Samsung), unlike what is happening on feature phones.
The data-com connector is controlled by the application processor so no Q's communication is available :-(
Happy new year from the Holyland.
Thank Dukas,
Happy new year to you!
If you have any idea let me know.....thanks a lot,

HOWEVER, TomTom came yesterday with some kind of help in that matter. when TomTom asks you to configure external GPS receiver, it also lists all available COM ports. guess what - one of the ports was described as 'RIL on COM6:' - ha! i'm guessing, RIL is accessible through that port, but usual AT commands don't work, so there must be some other way of doing it...
Try these two drivers. tell me the results
Thank you, i will try it and let you know!

mhmm ok, but *just* these drivers will not give us that tons. i mean, what also we need is that diagnostic software, right?
this is a reply to rfmanganaro who was asking how to connect QXDM to Hermes
Any idea how to connect QPST to Hermes?
Thanks austin,
I am having some problems on the drivers installation you provided (i don`t know how and where install those) Can you help me?
Drivers for mobile or laptop?
How and where should i install it?
Sorry to disturb you again and Really thanks a lot,
You can buy the software from Qualcomm, this software is used for Radio network optimization and mobile test/debugs, not sure if it is available somewhere in the web.To this software you can connect any qualcomm chipset mobile and monitor all L1,l2 and L3messages, record, show and record radio measurements for HSDPA,R99 and off course connect true GPS for g data collection. Is something similar (but much more complete than the TEMS, COUEI, NETMIZER, NEMO.....)
But how do we install the drivers?
The files posted contain SYS files.
These are sys files but the Modem in the Hermes has its own driver already.
If you try to do an 'update driver' and point to a directory with these sys files in it, they don't work.
I think you also need a .inf file to go with these, or alternatively, mabe there is something needed in the Hermes to start up the modem in a different way.
Any ideas?
Hi irvis, austin,
I tryied but it doesn`t work by updtae HTC modem driver (the .inf file is requested).
Austin, can you provide the .inf file or any other idea of how to install it?
i am sure is possible,
Thanks a lot!
I found source code for USB camera driver from Microsoft (usbcam.dll) it is for Windows CE and it is compatible with Windows Mobile. It need to be compiled for IntelXscale and/or ARM (depending on device)... Maybe someone here can try. It support around 30 usb web camera models with USB 1 and 2. It include also filter:
; Register JPEG -> RGB filter
; This filter is intended for use with the usbcam.dll, which
; produces output in the JPEG/MJPEG formats

There are 4 files:
usbcam.dll (Driver)
jpeg2rgb.dll (Support file - Filter)
usbcam.reg
jpeg2rgb.reg
Developer of this code confirm that it can be compiled for WM 5/6
Microsoft has released a webcam driver (with source) that does support a Direct Show interface. It is written for CE 6, but could be recompiled for Win Mobile 5/6 since they support Direct Show capture drivers.

Here is quote from description:

If you check the developer's link, you can download webcam.dll file (from WebCam_100.zip )
also checked the discussions, a CamTest app is mentioned but where is it??
webcamWhitePaper.doc is also interesting..
EDIT: found the Camtest but no exe file! dl from http://devpi.free.fr/wince/camtest2_cpp.zip
sorry for double posting, but I think I found the answer from the developer himself
As for your initial question, I'm not sure this driver will do what you want. You to want to use the webcam with a Windows Mobile system. If however, you want to display the image through media player, this driver won't help. It doesn't support a proper Direct Show interface.
Microsoft has released a webcam driver (with source) that does support a Direct Show interface. It is written for CE 6, but could be recompiled for Win Mobile 5/6 since they support Direct Show capture drivers. The link for that driver is

Wheen I connected camera it as usualy ask for drivver... but surprise here - it doesn't do this again as usualy, instead of this it show "error installing driver". Camera test is not exe becouse it like driver need to be compiled for windows mobile like driver. I am 100% sure that if driver, filter and cam test app will be compiled for windows mobile it will work fine.... but we need someone who will do it....
Shame that noone here can help us... developers...
What Happend
Wutsup ppl it seems no one is interested anymore in this, if anybody got progress or someone got compiled wm6,wm5 drivers plz share with us
I think nobody's interested because all our HTC devices have cameras in them already (and most new ones have 2). Why plug in another camera?
I need the same thing...
Industrial application with a USB camera hanging off a windows mobile device. Has anybody compiled this driver into windows mobile?
Thanks,
Linda
The project sounds interesting, but I don't think the ExtUSB in HTC devices support host mode. Plus, having a camera dangling from the only data/ power port on the device sounds like a waste.
What would be more interesting is to find a way to connect a web cam to a bluetooth device. My phone has a back camera, but I'd still love to buy a bluetooth camera to attach to the phone.
Hello everyone,
I'm a computing student and Ive got the task to develop a basic version of the WiFi router found here: http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Ive learned to program in Java during my 3 years of college and I consider that Ive got the basics covered but Im really bad at programming.. I am willing to learn a lot more to complete this project and in the process Im also planning to learn some serious programming skills considering the complexity of the application development.
Can someone please bring some light on this and help me with it? I actually dont even know where to start coding for this. All I managed to do in the last 24h is to find the below websites but I dont know how to put everything together and start coding. Ah, and I want to mention that once I finish it I will share it with the open source community, not looking for any profit. Its just a college project for me. Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can give me!

#1 User starts the program by tapping the app icon.
#2 Code to check for Internet connection over GSM network (check gsm state. if off, go to 3. if on go to 7)
#3 Code to send instructions to the GSM modem to establish an internet conection.
#4 If the connection cant be established due to various technical errors like no signal, wrong APN settings etc then 5
#5 Code to show info message on the screen to inform user
#6 Once the device has a valid internet connection(check) then 7
#7 Code to show settings to user and allow customization of SSID (network name). [and security key(optional for now, we'll do it later if we have time)]
#8 The user presses the start button.
#9 Code to activate the wifi card in adhoc mode and broadcast the adhoc chosen SSID
#10 Code to accept connection from a valid device and communicate with it over wifi
#11 Code to share the established internet connection over GSM network with the device connected over wifi
Hi!
I'm one of the authors of "Wireless Tether for Root Users".
What means "a basic version of the WiFi router"?
You know that most wifi-interface-drivers of android-devices do not support master-mode which would be mandatory to implement a "wifi router/access-point" (that's the reason why we support adhoc-mode only)?

Hi Harry, I appreciate the reply, thanks a lot!
"a basic version of the WiFi router" means a functional application that will run on an android phone (hopefully not rooted), will accept an ad-hoc connection with another wifi device over wifi and share its built in Inet conneciton with the device that connects to it. If I manage to get this running within 3 weeks I will complete the project in time.
I didnt know about the android wifi-interface-drivers..I was planning to try and develop this (hopefully successful app) into a proper wifi router (the full version) as my last year project, but now that plan is down the drain
Could you please help me start this? Where did u start when u actually started coding for this project? Any advice you can give me will be very welcome!
Cheers m8, have a good weekend!

Hi Harry,
By ad-hoc mode do you mean that the phone has to be rooted?
My understanding is that there is no way to have GPRS/3G running at the same time as a WiFi connection on the normal Android OS on a non rooted phone?
@atl4ntys,
Nice to see another Irish developer on Android
What your trying to do in 3 weeks seems like a big task and the normal Android SDK wont be much help for the reason I have stated above unless you root the phone.
cheers draffodx, I appreciate the interest!
Abt your question, to my knowledge wifi can run at the same time with 3g on a stock non rooted phone but it will not run in adhoc/ap mode. Unless some found a workaround that.. I'd prefer to develop a very basic app that will run on any android but if it proves to be an impossible task (also given the dev time available) then I will be happy with a function one on a rooted android. Dont need security and fancy graphics I just need it to work, so Im sure between me and my project partner we'll get it done (hopefully with a bit of help from the android devs)
Have you got any resources for how to run 3G and Wifi at the same time?
Its something I need to be able to do and from a few days research it seems that the OS only switchs between Wifi and 3G and never runs both at the same time.
From the SDK API's I cant find anything allowing me to turn both 3G and Wifi on.
Can you also define what you mean by adhoc/ap mode?
Thanks

Adhoc is computer to computer connection, without an access point. Info here: http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/wirelessfaqs/f/adhocwireless.htm
ap is an access point
The difference is(wiki):
Wireless Access Point vs. Ad-Hoc Network
Some people confuse Wireless Access Points with Wireless Ad-Hoc networks. An Ad-Hoc network uses a connection between two or more devices without using a wireless access point: the devices communicate directly when in range. An Ad-Hoc network is used in situations such as a quick data exchange or a multiplayer LAN game because setup is easy and does not require an access point. Due to its peer-to-peer layout, Ad-Hoc connections are similar to Bluetooth ones and are generally not recommended for a permanent installation.
Internet access via Ad-Hoc networks, using features like Windows' Internet Connection Sharing, may work well with a small number of devices that are close to each other, but Ad-Hoc networks don't scale well. Internet traffic will converge to the nodes with direct internet connection, potentially congesting these nodes. For internet-enabled nodes, Access Points have a clear advantage, being designed to handle this load.
Thanks for that atl4ntys!
If you get wifi & 3G working at the same time let me know it would be very interesting.
Good luck with the project

Hi Harry, i'm using your software, all work fine except i have to use "proxoid" to re-write the user-agent. When not using it, no web surfing for my computer is impossible.
The problem is Poxoid is written in java, and slow down the internet connection from the phone. I'm downloading at about 100kB without proxoid, and only 20-30KB with.
I'm asking you if you know another program that does same thing (user agent rewriting) , easy to install for rooted android phones, or why not include that fonctionnailty to Wifi Tether?
Thanks for Wifi Tether, nice program !

I have been curious about this, too. I imagine you could find some ports of aircrack out there. Otherwise you could shell and run a program like aircrack that would log packets and then transfer them to a more powerful computer to crack them later.
How did you manage to do it on your iPod touch?
I saw a thread like this closed the other day, pretty sure it's against the rules.

Well it certainly will be now. Thanks Einstein!
The fastest way most "hackers" get past WPA/WPA2 is to brute force the WPS pin with a tool like reaver-wps, though I'm not sure if it has been ported to android. Don't think it would be hard to port, would just take some work.
As for WEP, things like Aircrack-ng may or may not work based on what your hardware is.

Highly hardware-dependent indeed. And since Samsung doesn't publish datasheets for the hardware they package in our devices, we don't really know if the wireless interface supports monitoring mode and packet injection (talking for the Galaxy S2 here of course, don't know about other devices -but I seem to recall reading that on the HTC Desire S (my previous piece of s... phone, sorry) it's a no-go, the wifi interface is too basic to include this functionality -unverified though).
Maybe someone who installed Backtrack5 on their device can answer this ?
download Backtrack installer. follow the instruction and boom there u go. I use it on my photon/kindle all the time.
might do this later on, I been toying with the idea lately anyway.
But first in the pipeline is fully trying out the dual-booting possibilities of the Siyah kernel for SGS2.. xD
(can't very much have both at the same time, since from what I gather, on an SGS2 the Backtrack install would populate the hidden and unused mmcblk0p10 partition, which is used for the 2nd OS in a dual-boot..)

So, anyone got a suggestion what to do or if there's existing some addons or components for Win10 gamer edition?
