Hi guys,
This evening something wring happened with my HD2. Suddenly without any visible reasons touch screen stopped working. Actualy screen itself is working but it doesn't react on any touches. I did hard reset - no luck, screen is working but touch surface isn't, so basically my phone is almost dead :-(
Have you seen this behaviour ? Is there any possible way to fix it ? The only thing that comes in my mind which could cause something like this is static electricity shock, but if it kills HD2 screen I want my money back.
I guess now I should use warranty and this is just after 1 month of usage....
Just a stupd question
Don't be offended by my question, I just want to rule out the obvious.
You're not wearing gloves due to the cold outside?
Greetings
chuelibrueder
No, I'm not using gloves with HD2 :-(
I have the same problem. I believe that the connectors under the screen became loose.
I have send an email to htc and they told me to contact the retailer to check if they can replace the device and if not to contact the service center in Cyprus.
There is another thread about this issue here
i`m sure that warranty will solve it.. just contact your retailer.. good luck
Hmmm,
Yet another one having to go back due to hardware problems....
WB
I loose the touch screen today and the hardware button exept Home i think, i had to remove the battery and i waited 30s put it back and everything went in place, the phone had called one contact when i had the bug.
The only thing that happened before screen doesn't work and buttons : i received an MMS strange, i'm not sure i can rely on my phone
I only installed the 1.48 rom and the 3 patches (audio, sms and sd card)

I contacted the service center in Cyprus and they offered to repair it but they don't have spare parts right now. I've also send an email to the retailer and wait for their answer.
Seems i have to wait after Christmas for a repair or exchange.
The good thing is that by pressing the screen with my palm or giving it a few solid taps it works for some time.
bBeware keyboard layout!
I had suffer bye used hadwritting layout sometime it cause screen doesn't responds
try change keyboard layout not hadwritting
Just had the same thing happen with mine, powers up but the screen wont respond anywhere i press. I have tried hard reset AND soft reset, nothing!
Have just restored factory ROM, and deleted hspdl and dropped off at vodaphone in town. Im gutted!!
really seems to be a production problem: i had to send my hd2 back to htc for screen replacement just 4 weeks ago... same fault as yours: the touchscreen wasn't responding to input anymore!
the last weeks i noticed that many people had this problem too...
wow.. keeping a close eye on this.. guess the same problem from the HD is creeping up to the HD2..
Well im hoping vodaphone dont turn around and say its not covered under warranty etc, I had to [like most ppl] sign up for two years to get this phone, i aint gonna be to happy if i have to spend the next 21 months of my contract without the handset i wanted!
Yikes , yesterday my screen didn't respond either (for the first time). Soft reset didn't work. After taking the battery out and leave it out for > minute it still didn't respond. I pressed the screen a little and then it worked again. Not sure if it was because of pressing the screen, but it did look that way. I hope this will be the last time this happens!
tnx!

Well, it's been a few weeks now and I've had this problem several times again and worse, even after a hard reset; and almost each time I could fix it by pressing the screen/hardware buttons, but that shouldn't be the way, because I don't think it's good for the hardware, so I searched the forum and I think I found the two culprits (maybe a combination of the two):
1. The problem occured exactly the same day I began using my 16 GB card, class 2. It once happened that when I had the locked screen problem I took out the card and it immediately unlocked. But every now and then the phone still froze, even when I took out the SD card if the problem occured.
2. Then I have put off the automatic light adjustment settings and guess what; no more freezes!
It looks like a combination of power settings and use of SD card. I'm not very technical, but even when it looked like it was a hardware fault at first, it now seems it's a software fault after all.
Touchscreen doesnt work
Well F4CK my screen will not respond to touch at all anymore seems that this is a problem that is not well addressed tmobile is sending out a new one but the question is when will the touchscreen stop working on that "new" one.NOT happy at all.
Well this has now happened to me....no touch response but hardware buttons working, screen still displays-- off to JB HIFI as soon as I can to replace.
OOOKK I had this problem when i just flashed my phone with a costum rom. As far i remember my phone fall down once or twice but not something bad. I have the silicone cover and screen protector. If it was a hardware problem i believe that it shouldn't work at all even if you had to use the hardbuttons. Which that was how i would have to use to unlock the screen. I will go back to the factory rom and settings to see if there is any difference. My current rom is AthineOS 3.14 and Radio 2.15.50.14.
If for any reason you want to access your cellphone and you don't have time go through troubleshooting. I Suggest you download mymobiler which connects the phone and you can use it through your pc. Make sure you take the sd card before you connect. Here is the website www.mymobiler.com
In my case, my phone was RIP. The touch screen stopped working after installing a custom ROM. I installed the latest official ROM from T-Mobile and my phone and came back to life
wanted to install wp7 with a clean start...so tried to task29 (doloop) with 100% success and then my tmo hd2 wont go into bootscreen what ever i do...its stuck for ever in "stick together"...i know there is no os to load...but i dont understand y cant my hd2 go intobootloader
so far i tried
with holding volume down and power key with a single tap
with holding volume down and holding power key
with holding volume down, volume up and power key with a single tap
with holding volume down and reset button
with/without sim
with/without SD
with/without plug in wall charger
with/without plug to pc via usb cable
observations...when i pull out the battery and put it back in and then connect to computer when the phone is still off....the charging indicator LED glows in orange.
when in this mode if i switch the phone on with power/end key....it doent start...i have to pull the usb out, the orange LED still glows...and if i tap the power/end key nothing happenes...i have to pullout the battery to get it to start and eventually get stuck in "stick together"..
would really appriciate if any1 can help me get my hd2 into bootloader screen...
resolved the problem myself.....hd2 is working like a charm....thanks for all your support.
How did you fix it? For other users in this position.

SOLVED {bootloader dont loadArrow}
Here is what I did..
B4 that some background -
I used to heavily try different roms/mods and always played with android sd and nand versions…win 6.5X in multiple cooked version….
So my tmo-hd2 has been formatted/hard reseted/flashed many many times
By virtue of this….my screen died….slowly my screen touch responsiveness malfunctioned and eventually died… all hardware keys were working perfectly by the touch was dead….
During the process of screen malfunction to completely dead….made few observations to not things which might help fellow Hd2 owners…one thing is power/end key seems to be the culprit (this is my observation/belief).
Since I don’t live in US spend 100$ in changing the screen since then everything is working well…I still rig my hd2 like I always do…
Well when the wp7 was released, wanted to give a try…did this…hspl pkg 3 spl 2.08 hspl > then task 29 > and my hd2 didn’t get into bootloader at all…..i was doomed as there hd2 (after task29) didn’t hv os..
Searched for the solution everywhere and eventually nothing worked for me…I was about to give up…suddenly sometime struck my mind…wat if the power/end key is the problem….then things were positive..
I opened up my hd2 (unscrew and removed the back panel) and disconnected the connector flex rigid board (A board) of the hardware keypad from the mainboard….and pushed the battery in and pressed reset (sometime u need to plugin the usb cable to wall charged/pc to wake up the phone) and held volume down key and hopped for some miracle.
Viola saw the tricolor screen after eternity – since the back panel (not backcover) was open I help the battery to the pins and didn’t even move my fingers …run the stock rom installation and held the battery tight in place and waited to get the rom completed…the moment its 100% relaxed my fingers and reconnected the flexboard connector, re-assembled my phone and everything was back to normal…
ONE THING I LEARND FROM THIS…..HD2 IS A ROCKING PHONE AND U CAN RESURRECT IT WHATEVER HAPPENS TO IT (if at all some1 screws it with wrong radio…its officially bricked, but still it can be revived using RIFF JTAG method and rewrite boot data).
One final request pls DON’T GIVEUP ON YOUR DEVISE
Now I have wp7 running successfully and waiting for my activation code for live services

also hit thanks if u think its worth it
May I link to or rewrite and credit you with this in my guide?
interesting, two confirmations in this thread, and there's another thread where 2/3 people successfully used this method.
That whole lower right area is the Achilles Heel of this phone, keypad, screen connector and most pressed key all right in one little place.
Bring me the chief designers head on a plate!
Yes. The only downfall of the hd2. I wish it had the soft screen keys at the bottom.

yup...and the interesting thing is, i befriended an HTC engineer and got hold of multiple 'a-boards' at that time to test this out.the flex-board that reacts when we push the button.
there were multiple models/molds for HD2...may be different production lines..everything did the same job including the one which was shipped with the device..'a-board' wasnt the culprit here..the very design of having power + end call + device unlock in the same key/button is the issue.
First of all, I have a screen lcd that is not broken. The screen, however, is not responding to my fingers/touch. I think it's the digitizer. The hardware buttons work fine though.
What do I do to fix this?
Do you think the digitizer connecter is loose or has dirt or even broken?
I have a T-Mobile US HD2 and I think I'm still under warranty but not sure.
Fix Attempts:
I have checked Clockwork Recover and selected advanced>key test
and I get key codes when I press the hardware buttons, but no code when
I touch the screen.
I have tried wiping the data/factory reset & wiping the cache partition
& wiping the Dalvik cache, but same problem.
I have tried flashing different android roms, but same problem.
I have magldr 1.13 and clockwork recovery v3.0.0.5.

Seeing as you have the T-Mobile model of the HD2 you could buy you a small hex head screw driver and open up your phone to check the LCD/ digitizer ( Ithink they both have the sameribbon for the connection to the mainboard)ribbon connector as they just plug in on the T-Mobile HD2. This is a desision that is totally up to you though if you want to try this. But if you do still have a warranty I highly suggest you send it in to be repaired or replaced..
I double tao my end key and press again to wake phone from sleep and problem dissappears for a while not permenantly. Hope this helps
its something with the end key. mine is too not responding.
I've had all that problems
For few month my digitizer was not responding from time to time, but after few "power on" / "power off" it was ok.
After some time it stops working / responding permanently
I try everything !
I didn't had warranty any more so I give my hd2 to non-authorized service and they change only digitizer for 220 PLN ( Poland ) what is about 50 E
Now it's working great again.
If You want to change digitizer by yourself - don't try it - its very tricky and You are risking lcd damage. lcd with digitizer can be bought for 90 E - most safe solution for DIY way.
Regards,
Afro.
People keep saying that the hang up key is the problem, to me is bs!!! (sorry im about to throw my hd2 real far from here) I dont know what is but it ain't the damn key, ive tried a lot of stuff without luck. Im about to buy the LCD/DIGI stuff, but stop with the hang up key stuff its wrong!

The reason why the end key thing works for some people is that the end key is pretty much like right on top of where the connection on the main board for the ribbon that goes to the digitizer and the LCD. So pressing it sometimes causes the degitizer to work again for a little while.

hey it worked for me! after reading a lot of threads, i bumped to this and tried it. But I guess this is just a temporary fix until I get hold of HTC to replace my digitizer or fix the lose connection inside. well I still have my DHD as a primary device. anyway thanks a bunch!
what i do and works allllll the time is if it turn the phone on and theres no response i double click it fast to turnn n turn on again and like nothing it works
Same here
I recently replaced mine because of the unresponsive screen. The problem was very specific though. If i tried to use the red (end-call) key or the back (left facing arrow) key to wake up the phone the screen turned on but i couldnt unlock it. But if i used either of the other three keys to wake it up it was fine. Also if i used the back key at any time during use the touch screen became unresponsive and i had to lock the phone and unlock it again (using one of the left 3 keys) for it to register touch. I dont know if its because, apparently, those two keys are over the digitizer connection or if its just because those keys were more worn out than the others. It seems the former is more likely. Just some specific info about my experience, hope this helps someone.
Also if you have the "screenoff" app and "button savior" app you can get away with using it like this for a while.

Exactly same problem.. Now it seems a lot of HD2's have this problem.
It's obvious now that the repetitive pressing of the buttons is causing digit. to fail... But I don't see why, when I took mine out... everything was fine (no physical damage), I had my friend look it over with a magnifier - he didn't see any cracks on the cables, everything was soldered in place...
btw... does anybody knows what is the purpose of that metal mesh thingy that is glued on the back of the LCD over the flex cable?
I tried soft reset, nothing. Pull'd out battery reboot, nothing. Can you guys recommend me with a few steps i should take ?
Thanks a lot i really need my hd2 this week
Task 29, flash winmo stock, check if touchscreen if working. If it is, flash HSPL 2.08, flash radio, MAGLDR, then android, check if it is working, if it isn't then try a different rom. If from winmo it isn't working, then more than likely it is a hardware problem, eg. your end key is interrupting touch inputs, so take it into repair, although currently HTC is facing repair problems so if you're willing to wait say a month or so, then sure, but if it were me, i'd just buy a new phone.
Mann....i now feel that Android NAND is what gives users so many touch screen problems....yikesss !!!!
Im trying taks 29 now.
I installed this WinMo rom after task 29 and a hard reset:
Energy™-.¸¸.·´¯ 6.5|21916 / 6.5.X|29020 * Sense 2021
Still no touch screen. But the hardware keys are working. Will this be the end for me of a fantastic device and ****ing up 190 euro's
worst situation ever! when you slice your finger to unlock it and nothing happends !! it's a very common problem, HARDWARE related, not android nand related, i've been in the same situation after installing an app, somehow the screen became unresponsive.
i read somewhere that if you pressed a little hard above and arround the power button, the touchscreen starts to work again, because the digitalizer´s conectors are arround there, and i tried that and guess what?? it worked! after that installed button saviour app and never pressed the power button again.
but sadly, after a while the screen becomes unresposive again, so it´s just a temporal solution, now my touchscreen has become completly unresponsive and that trick doesn´t work any more
sounds like the digitizer issue thats been banded about on here
by the way, there are thousands of threats in the forum regarding the same problem, try to give them a read

I did read some, didn't gave me a single working solution. Is this a common problem with HD2's ?
My warranty is gone. Should i try to take it to a local repair shop ? Or take out my baseball bat and give it a good swing ?
It wasn't really supposed to happen you see. Android just requires us to use a lot of buttons and well, the hardware design wasn't meant for the buttons to be pressed a lot, so this happens, if you're unlucky.
Didn't use the power button that much really. Im thinking about selling my hd2 and buying a palm pixi to use for a couple of months. How much should i charge ? 60 bucks ?
Hi, been trying this for a long time now. I need, for warranty purposes, to return back to stock from nand android. Unfortunately i can't get to bootloader, the tri-color screen. My phone boots directly to Magldr. My phone on/off key is broken and i need it to get to the tri-color bootloader.
My question is, if there's any way i can get the stock winmo 6.5 rom flashed from magldr. USB Flasher, or by CWM, NAND Toolkit, or any other trick so that i can get it to repair?? PLEASE BEFORE ANSWERING NOTE THAT I CAN'T GET TO BOOTLOADER, I DON'T HAVE ON/OFF KEY AND THAT KEY IS NEEDED TO GET TO TRICOLOR SCREEN
My microphone is failling and the hard keys also... need them fixed.
Thanks.
You don't need the on/off keys to go into the bootloader, just the volume down rocker.
Press & hold it, then boot up the device.
Tried it a million times... it's a no go!!! It doesn't work, try it on your HD2, push the volume down and reboot the phone by taking the battery out and back in, or by pushing the reset button. That the only way i can reboot my phone. You need to shortly press the on/off button to get to bootloader.
Okay, try to install Android. After that, from within Android reboot your phone using "Reboot" option . And while it is rebooting, keep the volume down button held.
]P.S[ I just tried rebooting from within android, and then holding the volume down, WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING THE POWER BUTTON and it went directly to the bootloader. Are you sure your volumes are working ?
You have MAGLDR installed. Power off your phone and connect charger with Vol. down button pressed. Your phone will start in bootloader.
I guess my volume keys must be down too... they work on magldr, they work on android but i can't seem to replicate what you guys are saying. But there's no way i can do this from usb flasher inside magldr?? or inside cwm?? or with nand toolkit?? without having to be in bootloader?
Those are some solutions I have been able to gather from various threads, with the same problem :

Okay try this :
Remove battery,
With left hand press and hold volume down,
With the other hand you put the battery back in and press AND hold the power button, so power and volume pressed and hold, wait until you see the bootloader.
This will work (at least it worked on my phone 1min ago)

There is nothing in MAGLDR that can make your HD2 go into bootloader. The only this.g that can get you into the bootloader besides the external hardware buttons is the bootloader.exe that can be run from inside Windows Mobile. It can only be run from inside Windows Mobile. MAGLDR is a custom bootloader that runs after the HSPL bootloader and has no way of communicating with the HSPL bootloader.
At the OP, you may have a faulty volume button ribbon that is causing you not to be able to boot into the bootloader. Check out this thread you will see what I mean. Read post #10

I had the same problem ...
I could not enter the bootmanager in android brief button press to end a call, we moved the menu to shut down, reset, etc, the same menu that appears when you hold down the button longer to stop calling ...
This defect appeared to me after I lay HD2 due to large changes in ambient temperature ...
After a few days of research, opening, drying I removed the defect, so I pulled out and cleaned the keys below the screen (Home, Menu, Back, red and green) and wipe the foil that these pressures are the same buttons ...
My HD2 has been working for 2 weeks with no errors

by the way, it's not possible either to flash radio also if i can't get to bootloader??
flashing with fastboot, and .img files and what not is just for android based devices right??
Correct.
If you can't get to the bootloader, you can't flash anything.
Fastboot is only for Android.
I understand that if you are getting the phone serviced directly by HTC, they won't have a problem with you having Android on it. Buy, if you are going through your service provider, that may be a problem.
good luck
I've been to HTC service. They didn't repaired the phone claiming that there was a non original software on the phone and there was water between the digitizer and the screen. Even though none of the stickers were showing red or pink or other color than white.
In fact there is something trapped inside but it may be alcohol. I had an accident with the phone on a boat. Got wet by a wave and it must have gotten to the phone too that was inside my "purse" (it's a man purse ok?!? those bags that we guys use to carry stuff!!). I didn't noticed and instead of taking the battery at once i tried to turn on the phone... all hell brake loose. I then toke the batt of, and let it rest for a couple of days. Then burried it in rice to absorb the moisture. Then read that alcohol could "push" the water out, and splashed some near the hard keys because they didn't work and i thought that may have been salt water, or salt crystals blocking my keys.
Concluding, the phones works with a few limitations. The only keys that work right is the call and the windows keys and volume keys. And my microphone doesn't work right too. People can only barely hear if i speak directly to it and shout, and still they hear me in the bottom of a well.
I've bought another HD2 on ebay, with a cracked digitizer. Was thinking of maybe taking it for parts, since mine is in mint condition. But i might replace it's digitizer and repair the two phones. I'm only affraid to open it up because it looks very, very difficult.
Thanks anyway for all your support.
Hello, i´m an electrician and i have an idea.
Important is to dry it completely before put the Battery in.
I have opened some "normal" earlier Cellphones (not Touchscreen Phones) and cleaned it with distilled water.
It seems to be impossible to get the functions of the Hardkeys back without open your Phone.
You may try to flush out the corner of the hardkeys with distilled water to remove possible contamination with crystals or minerals that could cause block the keys.
I remain this would be the last chance before opening the phone.
i can not say what happens when you do this, normaly the componets have no problem with water, only the microphone and the cable connection can hold the moisture for a long time.
I hope i could have helped you with this idea. Please be careful it will be a risk the Digitizer is also in the bottom right corner.
if you don´t want to take the risk bring your phone to a independent (not HTC or Service Provider) Phone doctor.
excuse my bad english
