Bought me a Fascinate to play around with... - Fascinate General

I gave up my Tbolt for now and have purchased a Fascinate. I truly hate the icons and stock theme. I've been looking for the past 2 days on and off for a decent ROM but have yet to make a decision.
All i want is debinged, devzw, stock android icons, and all the phone features working. I can tell that GB is having issues on the Fascinate side as it was with the Thunderbolt so i prefer to keep it Froyo for now.
If anyone is willing to help me out and get started with this i will kindly appreciate your help!
Thanks =]

CM7/MIUIGB is fully functional, I would rather flash that then a froyo ROM.
Been using MIUIGB from andmer, super snacky no problems - I love it.

~Download Samsung drivers for your phone (1)
~Download Odin (2), and start it up.
~Now download the CWM recovery (3).
~Under PDA in Odin, look for where the recovery downloaded to and select it.
~Download files (4-6) and place them on the root of your SD card.
*Take out the battery on your Fascinate and grab your USB cable.
~While holding down the volume down button on the phone, plug it into the PC.
~When Odin shows your phone in the box on top, go ahead and press start.
~When it is completed, unplug your phone, put your battery back in.
~Hold down volup+voldwn+pwr until you get into the recovery. (If you missed it, please go back to the *)
~(Often, unpressing and pressing these buttons while at SAMSUNG will help.)
~Go ahead and wipe/factory reset. (If you need to make a backup, do it, then go back to *)
~Under advanced in the menu, wipe dalvik cache.
~At the main menu again, go to install zip from SD card.
~Select the "update-cm-7.1.0-Fascinate-KANG-###.zip"
~Allow that to install, then flash "gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip"
~After that is complete, go forth and install CM7Fascinate-Glitch-V###.zip"
~Now boot up into your beauty, then shut if off before you fill out your info.
~Now, last but not least, go back to Odin, under PDA attach the radio (7). (you gotta extract it first.)
~Hit start, and enjoy your brand new Nexus S Fascinate DDD
Hope that helped... and might I suggest you read up on that kernel thread, because your phone has some secret tricks now
Definitely get Voodoo Control App from the Market, and have fun with that. (Adjust the color!!!!! Here's my settings in Voodoo
Color settings: Voodoo Profile
RGB Multipliers: (Red)3354165123 (Green)3333712640 (Blue)3507556800
Gamma Hack: (Red) -11 (Green) -18 (Blue) -11
If you want to overclock, definitely go with Voltage Control App from the Market and follow the thread's instructions carefully.
If you want your phone to look like mine with an unlocked Launcher Pro (I bought the licence) PM me. Here's what she looks like. I also swiped along my dockbar at the bottom when i swiped the screen.

You sir are one of the few people to actually admit that the weight of that phone is too much. Most people are too proud of their new TBolt to admit it weighs more than the moon. Co-worker got one at launch and i tried it out, almost dropped it after holding my Fascinate. Everything feels heavy compared to it however the TBolt is a freaking brick! I could not comfortably walk around with it in my shirt or pants pocket, it would weigh them down so much. The sheer mass has also lead to what I believe are more cracked screens than it should. The Fascinate weighs almost nothing so their's little chance of breaking the glass from an everyday drop.

Thank you all for the helpful links and replies
I loved my tbolt but i had some emergencies and needed the cash, now that the urgency has past i couldn't stand using my spare blackberry bold. so i poped it on ebay and went ahead with a purchase of a Fascinate since that is about the only other android that is worth owing.

Well if your haven't yet you should try CM7 with the Glitch kernel. Amazingly fast, faster than any of the Froyo voodoo based roms.

but does everything work? i was reading under a few roms with GB that there are still some issues. i am mostly concern with sensors working right, volume, camera, and no boot loops.

Only issue with MTD-based ROMs (CM7/MIUI/OMFG-B) is the occasional delay on sensor when pulling phone away from head and a (sadly) very noticeable issue with in-call volume (and volume in general).

MMS got fixed so now its mostly annoyance type things. My sensors and camera and all work fine. Like mentioned, call volume is a bit low....but completely usable. It is my everyday Rom now. Extremely fast. If you talk on it as a phone all day I would wait but if you use it for a lot of surfing and stuff its pretty solid now. Data connection seems to be flaky for some people but on the EC09 modem I have had little trouble and GPS is back to super fast lock.

I'll add another testimonial to this one. I'm using CM7 with the Glitch kernel and it's been a ton of fun. The call volume is a bit low, but I've gotten used to it. When I come out of the call, I usually have to press a button to recall the screen, however, because the sensor doesn't register that I've taken the phone away from my face. By the time that happens, however, the other person has usually hung up.
I've had no data outages (EC09), but Wifi's been spotty. GPS locks very quickly (5-10 seconds) and everything else has been a dream. For a while I was too underclocked and I got some random reboots, but that was hardly the ROM's or kernel's fault.

ok so i was getting ready to get to work on the fascinate when i got stopped by a brick wall.. rooted with super one click, checked root and busybox. downloaded rom manger, come to find out clockwork recovery is not working with the new froyos... i am currently on ed05 Official from VZ....anyone knows or has the files to get the clockwork to work so i can start checking out roms? thanks!

rom manager dont work with the fascinate... you have to flash the cwm3.tar thru odin!

ok so i installed this through Odin....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
i tried it and it works, now im going to see if i can load a rom and not screw it up lol

good luck. you wont be disappointed once you get to cm7 or miui

[Q] Are you going back to 2.1

Just taking an assessment here of the number of people going back to 2.1 and waiting out the OTA from Sprint.
I am not... I Repeat NOT looking to start a thread over whether or not it's worth it or a good idea. I am not looking to know what problems you are having or solutions you have found. There are a million threads to go over these issues.
Just taking a count here. Perhaps to help me in deciding whether or not its worth it to go through reinstalling all those apps and whatnot based on what the masses seem to be thinking.
OK if you guys want to use this as yet another repository for conversations on the pros and cons and problems you are having when you switch back please feel free...
I already have. For me, di18 runs circles around froyo. I don't think this is the final froyo. It's too goddamn slow and buggy. If it is, then this is the most sorry ass excuse for a final release from samsung/sprint. I'd give it the golden turd award.
P.S. I'm running stock rooted only.
Even if its "buggy" and/or a bit "laggy", froyo let's me do what I want on my phone..so I could bare with it as I have been for like 2 months aready

No. I've been on the stock rom since I got an epic at the end of October, and this leak is by far the best rom I've used. I have absolutely no problems with this rom whatsoever. The one minor quirk is the screen lag when I open and close my keyboard, the home screen take a second to populate the icons and stuff. Other than that, I really don't have any major problems with this release at all.
DK28 feels like somehow I flashed Windows Mobile 6.5 on my phone. Launcher Pro is buggy and crashes at least several times per day. The phone freezes all the time and i have to mash the home key a hundred times to correct it, and then its vibrating for like 20 seconds registering the previous 100 hits of the home key. The browser is checkerboarding and WTF did my bookmarks go in the browser? Seriously, when you are in the browser, how do you access your bookmarks? They are no where to be found. Random apps are having anywhere from minor to major problems, most of which I fix manually through root explorer and correcting permissions. I did flash it correctly, so its not an issue with that. That said, its a PITA to flash back to DI18 and ive been putting it off. Gonna wait until I am mid throw chucking my phone against a wall, and then I will stop myself and flash back to DI18 that evening.
I guess I'm lucky with DK28. My phone has no ill effects.

Same here. I'm keeping 2.2. It runs faster, smoother, and battery last longer. I have had no app conflicts. I'm came from unrooted stock epic, and just downloaded file from google the day it came out to my phone. Used my phone to change the name of the file, and used stock recovery to update. No probs what so ever.

As a former Windows Mobile 6.5 user, I would like you to know that even WM6.5 on a TP2 is much more enjoyable to use than DK28.
That having been said, I went from DK28 back to Epic Experience.
Well a couple of things...
1) I think its funny that this has been viewed (at this point) 111 times, but only 17 people were willing to click yes no or considering it. I guess I should have included an option for those people who never flashed the update to begin with.
2) I updated on the day it was released as well. I had to do the flash back to get the GPS working again, but as of now the only real issue I have appears to be the accelerometer rotation lag.
@JSarella and @muyoso: I also was Stock ROM and rooted before the update and just used the update.zip method. However, I am not sure if that makes a difference with regard to the results of flashing to DK28.
@mxcoldhit: The battery life is amazing. I don't even have to use JuiceDefender, I can keep my screen at a normal brightness, have 2 email accounts pushing all day long, listen to an hour of music, make a couple of calls, play some games/do some light browsing, and still have battery to spare... just incredible to me the difference from 2.1 where I could hardly go a few hours of the day and do anything on the phone (without using JD).
I just felt like my phone was a bit snappier on eclair, and have been considering how much that snappiness is worth to me. I have backed up with CWM, so its not such a hassle, but I do love the battery life, flash support, and general feel of Froyo and know I would miss it as I wait at least 3 weeks for a final release. Also, who knows when an RC2 will be released and how much more careful Sprint will be as they actually caught wind of this one and all the excitement around it... I partially wonder if they did it as a teaser just to get a sense of how the community is feeling or to throw us off the scent of the gingerbread rumor... WHO KNOWS!!! Anywho, thanks to everyone who has responded, and I will keep checking in from time to time to see how it looks and what people are choosing to do based on their own personal experiences with DK28.
Already went back, didn't waste any time.
DK28 has been a great experience for me! Faster, smoother, more responsive than DI18 (or earlier) ever was! Dunno what some of you have done to your phones but DK28 has been running circles around the previous Eclair builds for the Epic 4G. My phone has only been on stock and never rooted. Also did a factory reset prior to DK28 so maybe that's why it has been such an utter joy for me.
Not going back and I'd be an idiot to do so!
I'm staying. I haven't had any problems and this thing runs so smooth now. This probably isn't final, but its close.

Only issue that i am having is that my gps is trashed and doesn't want to work. I haven't tried to fix it yet i may just wait and see if there will be another update soon. All in all i love it. I would suggest that once flashed do a wipe, that cleared out most of the bugs. Frustrating downloading apps again but worth it.

After this morning I am going to have to go with likely to go back. Over time I am finding more and more bugs with DK28. This morning I was driving to work, I keep my phone linked to my car with bluetooth for slacker radio. Twice it loses it's connection and I was like what the hell.... so I look at my phone and it says 2 missed calls which should have gone through the bluetooth but instead just killed the data connection. Then 5 minutes later my whole notification bar goes green. Not a normal green, a look like a video card crashing green /w lines through it.
I just keep seeming to find random bugs here and there and it is getting a bit annoying. I may just wait it out until Samsung figures this whole froyo thing out.

LOL! I guess I'm not the only one but I wouldn't go as far to say it is as bad as WinMo 6.5 even though certain things do remind me of my Touch Pro 2. I have realized that this isn't Froyo. It's FRUITCAKE!
I already went back - came from rooted stock, went back unrooted so OTA will work.
My battery SUCKED - I am used to getting a normal day's use with a lot left, I was having to plug in mid afternoon/dinner time. Just like before the 9/30 update and still doing all the tricks to keep battery down, ie airplane toggle, kill all Media, check Wifi status, etc. I HATE to plug in my phone for what I consider normal usage, not high tech, downloading, playing games. I almost returned it in Sept for this, will not go there again.
And GPS did NOT work, no has codes, nothing. I am going on vacation and really need GPS, so that was the final straw.
Liked - phone did seems snappier and faster. changing dock station icons
pics and some programs came up faster
Disliked - email was really slow messaging was different, screens bright was
ok but got popups (might be me and settings)
Didn't have calibration/rotation problems, didn't check camera, no dropped calls
Just lost too much and didn't gain enough to continue. I'm glad those above did well, it could depend on how you use it as well as how it was loaded, no idea, but battery for me was nightmare and unacceptable.
No, not going back unless I have to to get the next update. Battery life is significantly improved and everything is as snappy as it was before, and my gps is working even if it comes on while 4g is connected. No crashes yet and I have been running it since about 5 minutes after the link to the update.zip was posted.
And to access bookmarks in the browser you have to press the button next to the addres bar when a page is not loading. I hope they put it back into the bottom menu though.
Edit:
I haven't made up my mind yet. Many of the froyo roms seem to have minor issues here and there, but are otherwise usable.

I am amazed at my phone. Pure love

I am sure most do not care but I'll try to make this noob flasher friendly too. My current set up is just absolutely amazing, to the point I just log in here to log in and not look for the next big thing. Phone is quick, gps is reasonably solid for our hardware, connection is great.... Over all look, these themers and devs do some seriously solid work. I have 4 other friends with stock Vibrants and every time they pull theirs out I just cringe. It doesn't even feel like we own the same phone and I can't see how they function.
Anyways, after a weekish of playing around with my set up I figured I would throw out a big THANKS to all that put in their own free time on this. I have learned a TON and have enjoyed my phone like no other.
For those in question or that are new and maybe want to get in on what my set up is, here is a list of it all. I don't boast I have the ultimate set up but it definitely works for me.
Rom:
Bionix 1.3.1
Kernel:
Overstock
GPS Fix:
Heathens Fix
I used the Bionix provided modem but here anyways. Some work best for others:
Modems
Theme:
Splash of Color
Themed TW MMS:
Dark MMS
Pictures in all those will give you an idea. Can up some screen if you want but my layout isn't really what I want to boast about. It's the combined works of these people.
Oh and Appwidgetpicker which groups your widget menu together. Ie; SimiFolder will have one icon then a sub folder for a cleaner look picking widgets. Cqannot find thread now though.
Great write up! I've got a pretty solid setup, but I'm sure there are plenty of people that could use this. I always wish someone would post the exact setup they have that they're bragging about along with links.
Thanks a lot!

I am glad that you found the firmware that works best for you. I think that I have to try the combination you post. My vibrant is running stock 2.2 software and it is unbearable. If it works normally than it is already a bit sluggish. But more than often, it hangs for about 10-20 secs before responding on my touch. Many times I receive phone calls and the slider is just not responding to accept the call, even though I swipe it in panic. I almost miss few calls. But the worst thing is that the phone now just dies in sleep. I can't wake it up with the power button any more. I have to press and hold power and volume up/down for the phone to reboot. Even so, it takes about a min to show the S screen. I miss calls and do not know, until people tell me they just called my cell and I check and notice that the phone is dead.
I don't understand Samsung engineers. They make this product inferior to the iPhone and it is not. Apple is all about UI, otherwise the product is not that impressive (heavy, break prone, antenna gate, no sd card, etc.). Why can't Samsung engineers create process priority list that make sure the phone always response to touch and put everything else sleep for a fraction of a second. If Android phones do not sell well, I think that it is because Android software engineers do not put the UI on top of their feature list. Why do they ask XDA developers to fix their mess and why do they ask users like me to have to spend time and a lot of effort flashing ROMs to make the product usable? Samsung managers and people responsible for Android need to get fired in my opinion. If they want to compete against Apple, they have to have the attitude that Steve Jobs has. Do not accept inferior results from your engineers.
Sorry for ranting.
@tphone
You should really consider Bionix 1.3.1 if you don't like it you can always get your phone back to factory fresh.
Just to keep many options open....
I am actually on Simply Galaxy Sweet Honey 2.4 with heathens gps fix. I am absolutely in love with this rom and it is INSANELY fast on stock RFS. Been running it for days. I am so impressed that for my fiance as her entry Android device purchased another Vibrant as of today.
I freshly odin before almost all new rom installs. I first flash Eugenes gingerclone r2 and then Simply Sweet 2.4. I have heard you can also flash simply sweet from bionix but this is how I do it.

I was looking at Simply Sweet Honey myself but I really enjoy my phone right now and I kinda weighed out what it provides I would USE over what I have. Most of the physical differences I weighed out were theming and I customize my set ups either way.
I have been flashing my Vibrant since early MACNUT days, all these Roms have their own quirks but these guys do truly amazing jobs. I sat on Axura for the longest time until TW brought back Bionix.
Lol @ Odin before install, not at you doing it but it brings back a memory. I can't remember the user but I used to do this as well and posted it for some new guy as a suggestion and they wanted to argue for a few post why I was being redundant and waisting peoples times. Just an idiot... If I were to go to a different Rom I probably would Odin out fresh but build to build I just factory reset in recovery and go from there.
Also, I wanted to add to my original post something for the new users. Venture off into THIS forum some too. A lot of amazing apps and stuff that are posted here by Android users and developers that don't necessarily have Vibrants but do pertain to your phone and an Android device.
My home screen is the Bionix live wallpaper and beautiful widgets weather with no notification bar. I found an app called TxMissed that remains invisible(or not) until you miss a call or text so I don't have to manually check if I missed something and still can keep a clean home.
Very Nice Write Up you have just said everything i wished id said as a first post or shortly there after

Beginning to hate my tab

I have a Verizon SGT and am starting to hate it. It constantly freezes up for a few seconds when loading a page in the browser and then when it finishes loading and I double tap to zoom, it zooms in and everything is fuzzy for a few seconds (freezes again also) before everything is sharp. None of my friends have a tab so I'm not sure if this is normal for our tabs.
My tab is rooted (z4) and I've tried sgstools and OCLF to try to fix it, but nothing has helped so far. I've also done a factory reset but it doesn't really work because apps are all still there. If this is normal behavior, will flashing a new ROM help? What ROM would you recommend for a Verizon tab? My firmware is stock dj11. I've flashed many ROMs on my Moto Droid, so I'm not opposed to a new ROM if that's all it will take.
Roger
use miren browser, it's on market
come back after you try it and give some feedbacks
It's not just the browser, but the browser freeze is the most common freeze for my tab. I've tried other browsers and read about Miren but haven't tried it yet. I'll give it a shot but it won't solve the general OS freezes.

I would have to say that's not normal. If I had to wait "a few seconds" for the thing to get it's act together every time I did something the least bit intensive, such as loading a web page with ANY browser, I would have exchanged it for one that worked correctly. You may want to consider that. My Tab isn't as smooth as my iPad but it's pretty close. Yours should be too. Custom roms and the like should be a distant option because, just like with phones, not one of them is ever 100% reliable.
Is it possible that these kind of things (lags and freezes) are caused by too little free memory? My Tab seems to run better and faster when I delete a few device based apps. Of course I screw things up again by adding new apps, lol.
I had the same problems AFTER I tried OCLF; Try undoing OCLF and anything related to it.

That doesn't help. You shouldn't need to overclock to have a decent experience. My Verizon Tab worked just fine right out of the box without any of the pausing the OP has mentioned. Overclocking is a bandaid over a problem that isn't going to go away if you ignore it. Exchange the device for one that works correctly and then overclock it to make it better. Besides, if the CPU can't handle an overclocked speed then the OP is really screwed.
This sounds like a similar scenario to me. I had a stock euro tab and was starting to hate it as well until I flashed it with a new rom. Now it's awesome and what you'd expect it to be in the first place. I dunno why the telcos bloat their stock roms up with so much ****. Rooting is not going to do much for your situation.
Get rid of the stock rom and you'll never look back. If you are after a bloatless, but stock like experience, then use Rotohammer JMIv2 and make sure you convert the file system to EXT4.

I got ATT tab and a Dell Streak. Both of them are doing that. Inresponsive for a few seconds, but if I poke the screen repeatedly, the app or browser will close by itself or the thing just reboot on it own. Maybe it's Android glitch? Start to hate Android now.

You'd better go by an iPad. That'll fix your issues.

Since recovery and download mode is pretty reliable on this device, i took the courage to mod the tab and of course It wasn't a short process to achieve it, i tried every rom and kernel.
So my suggestion, try the overcome. It's so snappy you could not go wrong by switching to that ROM and kernel. I always have the GPS, Bluetooth, HSDPA turned on and on top of that i usually browsing and hearing music or playing some games while i'm in the car. Before i switched to overcome, multi tasking is sluggish, it would lags if messages, emails or tweets kicked in and the music would jitter. And now all is smooth as butter.
Although i have the oc version, i usually limit it on 1 Ghz underclocked depends on how long i would be outside. Battery life is still good, around 4-5 hours to reach 50% with GPS, HSPDA and Bluetooth always turned on and some browsing, plus some gaming, GPSing and calling.
All thanks to the developers, who know what they themselves and people want! Cheers!
Screw the ipad. No flash is like the year before the year 2000 man!
Be careful with the specifics of the advice you are getting here. You have a CDMA tab and these GSM tabbers kernel and ROM suggestions will bork your tab if you do what they did verbatim. The basic advice is good, if you are comfortable with flashing a kernel and working through the issues it entails then you will be rewarded for your effort with a smoothly operating device. Right now your best (only?) option will be the KhasMek kernel available in the Galaxy Tab Android Development section of the forum.
The kernel did enough for me, so I have not tried the ROM yet myself as I have not felt the need.
Hit up boush / khasmek he made my tablet lovely

Back to stock observations

Well as I found out when my SD card died it also took out my GPS, nothing will make it work again. So I put the phone back to stock, got the ED03 Froyo OTA update and took it into my verizon store, long story short I'm getting another phone tomorrow. I've been rocking on the stock froyo for a few days now and its kinda wierd since I've basically been rooted from day one. For one battery life is horrible with anything turned on, however with everything toggled off my battery life is alot better than any custom ROM or undervolted kernel. I didnt expect that. Phone isnt as laggy and i expected either. Whats really bizarre is when your stock the Market actually WORKS! No matter what I flashed my Market was always laggy, sometimes never worked at all. I usually have to start a download two or three times. This was for any ROM or kernel I tried, I assumed it was normal. Well on stock Froyo, the Market loads immediately, when I click to dowload it downloads and installs immediately. WOW! Now when I get my new phone I'm gona root it , is there anyway to get this good Market performance?
I don't have any market issues on comrom 1.3
My phone performs much better on stock ED03 than Community ROM v1.3. Is there a lot more broken with that ROM than the kernel & status bar?
For the past few days I've also been running stock ED03 with the basic bloat removed and minimal apps installed. Battery life is a bit better, but it's still not great. The phone is typically dead (or screaming for a charger) by the end of the day with normal use.
Everything seems to work with the exception of bluetooth calling (after I hang up) in my car. At first I thought it was those custom kernels causing the issue, but even the stock kernel/ROM does it.
After I hang up a call via bluetooth in my car, the phone crashes and bluetooth crashes which makes the phone hang for a minute or two. I can turn bluetooth off then on to get it to re-connect to the car, but it'll just crash again after the next call is done. Through some reading, I found that Samsung is real shady with their implementation of bluetooth. I can believe it based on our GPS issues, jacked up RIL code, weak wi-fi signal and a lower overall cell signal than other phones.
It's **** like this that keeps me from wanting the SGS II.
I'm out of the loop but it seems as it stands LG is the way to go

I don't know I just played with a htc thunderbolt yesterday at a verizon store and that thing is bad ass even without 4g. If us cellular got that phone id be all over it. But from what I hear we getting the moto atrix which I'm not a huge fan of...now that moto xoom tablet on the other hand...if verizon wasn't so damn expensive.... My $.02 haha
As for the stock experience I just flashed back from cm7 to stock and all I got was pissed off haha

ive had issues with the market in custom roms too. sometimes when i download an app instead of installing it just disappears, and i have to redownload it sometimes more than once to get it to install. but that wont make me go back to stock. custom roms/kernels are waaay better than stock and theres bound to be some issues here and there

I had the LG G2x for a little over a week and it wasn't too bad. There were very minor annoying things (which I cannot remember) that reminded me of Samsung, but it wasn't as bad. It was supposed to be stock Android, but a developer soon discovered that it wasn't. It was just themed to appear stock, so I don't think the G2x currently performs as good as say a Cyanogen ROM.
Also, that phone was plagued with that reboot bug. Outside of the reboot bug and the LCD screen, it's not a bad phone. I couldn't keep it because A) the software bugs reminded me of why I don't want another Samsung. I'm not going to buy a phone and put up with that BS again - although, that phone should get heavy dev support soon; B) Maybe it was the 4" screen or the bottom heavy bezel or the bleeding LCD screen, but I felt the phone was too much of a lateral step rather than a step up from the SGS series of phones. I needed more to keep myself satisfied.
LG has the potential to do good, but so far... they're on shaky ground to me. Just like Samsung. They need to fix the reboot issues and stop copying Samsung.
As it stands I will stick it out with my Fascinate till I see a Verizon phone I really like. Which sucks because I don't see any on the horizon that look promising except for maybe the Motorola Targa. When it comes to community efforts there are two reasons I look to them from time to time -- stability and believe it or not BLN
Beware of the LG Revolution when it drops. It's not going to be a "With Google" device, meaning Verizon is probably going to beat and rape it until it's a mere shadow of it's original self.
Running stock ED03, rooted, modified to support cwr, de-binged, de-bloated, and deodexed. I did this all myself, a lot of reading of how to's. Next up I found something on converting rfs to ext4 I hope it easy enough and works well. So far its great, with the prospect of awesome, if file extention Change is doable and improves phone as much as I read about.

[Q] Help! Setup Wiz Crashes after Factory Reset!

I just rooted my (R2-D2) Droid 2 two days ago using the app z4root (via 4shared). I'm on stock 2.2 (and by that I mean what came on the phone, so it's actually a light Blur 2.2)
Then I wanted to get rid of some of the bloatware, so I downloaded Bloat Freezer (still available on the Market) to do that. After freezing whatever apps I saw fit, I returned to see my homescreen black. I did some research and apparently this stems from "freezing" something to do with MotoBlur. I know for sure that I froze "Files" and "AccountSync", which apparently caused this problem with other people.
Supposedly a factor reset would fix it, but it didn't. So that's why I'm here.
So first I tried a normal reboot. That didn't work. Then I did a factory reset. I got all the way through the Setup Wizard, and then it took me back to the "Touch the Android to Begin" screen instead of closing to the home screen like normal. When I try to go through the Wizard again it crashes after syncing an account. I've tried three or four factory resets and this happens every time.
People had this problem while they were on other ROMs and supposedly flashing back to the original OS (not stock, but "stock" i.e. what Motorola put on the phone before), but I'm not on any other kind of ROM so I don't know if that would help.
Should I flash back to the original? Can I even do that if I haven't flashed an alternative ROM? Should I just try flashing to a different ROM (MIUI or Bugless Beast)? Can you even flash a ROM if you can't access most of the phone (the only things I have access to are my email [when the message icon pops up] and the hard reset menu thing)?
Note: Sorry if this isn't in the right thread, I couldn't figure out where to put malfunction type things. Mods can move it to where ever is appropriate. I also searched both XDA and the entire internet and either no one has this problem in the EXACT way I do (i.e. not on any special ROM) or the thread is extremely, extremely dead. So that's why I made the decision to post a new thread about it. Thanks!
Edit: I re-flashed my phone with RDS Lite, and while the homescreen is back it's extremely, extremely laggy. At first I thought it was broken again until I realized it was just taking so long to respond to my finger swipes. Right now it's trying to download 46 apps in the background, so I'll wait until that's done to try again. But I had faster responses even when everything was all broken and it was trying to install 46+ apps..
Those people were right. Find the .SBF file for your version of the Droid 2 and sbf back to "stock". That should fix you problem.
I'm in the process of RSDLite-ing right now, I wasn't sure if it would help though.. Stay tuned!

It should. Good luck.
Is this going to un-root my phone?

I believe so. But it should be relatively easy to reroot.
UGH, IT TOOK AWAY MY R2-D2 BOOT ANIMATION......
Also, I noticed that you have the MIUI ROM. Do you feel like it performs better than stock? Faster? Sometimes I feel like the Blur-lite was a little laggy..

Did you use the file specific to your phone? Either way, you should be able to get it back. Someone ripped out all the stuff from the R2D2 phone back when it came out. It's on the net somewhere.
I love Miui. It definitely performs better than stock and is much faster. I love the polished menu system and the included GB features are great. I especially love how you can customize practically everything. It has also greatly improved my battery life. I've been getting up to 20 hours on my standard extended battery. Good stuff. And if you don't like the iOSuck look of Miui, you can always download a different launcher (like ADW) and use that (like I did). Overall it performs surprisingly well considering it's on a locked phone.
(I've played with CM7 on my Incredible and PE on my now retired OG Droid. Miui definitely performs better.)

Well apparently not.. I'll have to try and find the boot animation again.
And yeah, a lot of people have been saying the stuff about the battery life.. Have you ever tried Bugless Beast? Because that's the other ROM I'm stuck between. So I'm not sure which one is performing better on people's Droids

I haven't used it yet, but I have heard good things. I probably will try it at one point though.
Like others have told me, you're just going to have to try them and see for youself. Different people have different experiences so it is difficult to determine which is better without some kind of experience with them.

Is MIUI all in English now? I know about a year ago there were sill some things in Chinese (like the call button for example). From the pictures they showed on the official site of the Droid 2 port it looked pretty English, but I can't really find much more information on it than that..
