terminal services client help!

can sum1 please post step by step instructions on how to connect to another computer on a home wireless network, network is 100% would love to get this working!

Make sure both wifi adapters are ON (both PC and PDA)
1. On your PDA, go to Start->settings->Connections->Network cards
You should find two tabs "Wireless" & "Network Adapters"
2. Click on Add New (in the wireless tab)
3. Give a convinient name, and select "This is a device-to-device (ad-hoc) connection"
4. Complete it by hitting OK
5. Go to "Network Adapters" tab, and choose "tiacxwln Compatible Wireless Ethernet..." adapter
6. Provide a specific IP address (eg. 192.168.1.2) & subnet mask (eg. 255.255.255.0)
7. Press OK to complete it!
8. Now, on your desktop, double click on your wireless connection tray icon, and then click on "Properties" button
9. Double click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" in the list to get the tcpip properties
10. Select "Use following IP address, and specify an IP (eg. 192.168.1.1) & subnet (eg. 255.255.255.0)
11. Press Ok, and close all dialogs
12. Now, right click on your wireless tray icon and select "View available wireless networks"
13. If you've got all the above steps right, you should find the Adhoc network you created on your PDA (...you should find the name you provided in step 3!)
14. Connect to it, and you have your wifi adhoc connection established!
Now you can do the following -
1. You can browse the contents of your desktop through Resco by setting up a simple Network drive (as long as you have a username and password for a user account on your desktop, it should be pretty straight forward to do it in resco!)
2. You can use Terminal services client
a. Fire up TSC, and type in your computer's name and press connect
(you can find out by right clicking on your "My Computer" icon and then clicking on properties) Eg. "Laptop" (without the quotes)
b. press connect, and you should see a login screen!
c. Enter your username and password that u use on ur desktop, and you should get things rolling Wink

ok, don't want to use adhoc, have a netgear dg834g, are the instructions the same for the adhoc, as in the ip setup?

One point to note, at least on my setup...
If I try TSC and enter my servers name it attempts to connect via GPRS,3G. If however I enter the IP address it connects with Wifi perfectly.
Not sure why but I can live with it...

My bet would be that your wifi might not be giving you DNS services and your GRPS is.

You would think so, but my laptop and all the other PC's in the house happily connect using TSC to my server using its NAME instead of it's IP. I just thought it was some thing to do with the Universal.

Anyone knows how is possible to set a different port of 3389 default?
I try to write 192.168.1.X:XXXXX but it's impossible..it says The server name is invalid.

No way to redirect on the client side but you could redirect on the server side with a port forwarding type app. Kind of defeats the purpose of obscuring port 3389 though.

the problem with wifi gprs umts vpn and tsc all relate to the same issues, namely "." in the addresses.
the full stop and name issues usually relate in some way to the "my work" and "internet" designations of your connection types.
to cut a long story short, if you are having difficulty using IP addresses (I have never got a name to work), then place the IP address you are trying to use in the exceptions section of your connection type.
this way, the OS allows the "." in the addressing.
I think the "." issue is not allowed when you are the "my work" connection type, as this is designed or expects to a name for the connection. this is so even if you are using myserver.mydomain.com as the addressing.
if it detects the fullstop, it assumes you want to use the "internet" connection, disconnects what you are looking for and starts using the "internet" designated connection, and if it cant find one uses the 3g/gprs and auto launches.
what a wonderful system, and I dont really fully understand the need for "my work" versus "internet" but it is at operating system level from microsoft, and occurs on all the WM2005 devices as far as I can establish.
if you search on "my work" vpn gprs or similar through the forums, you will find a detailed outline and explanations.
i encountered the problems when trying to use TSC over a VPN over either WIFI or 3G, it simply kept cutting out after 2 seconds, or couldnt find it.
IP addresses are far better, far faster if you can use them and know them, add these into your exceptions as you will find that they rarely change and it should all start coming together.

hasnt been mentioned and dont know if it is different for the m5000 on WM5 (iam using an m1000 with SDIO WIFI)
If i have the PDA Connected on the Wireless network to enable me to connect through TSC i always have to ensure that my work network is selected for both of the two options in Network Management, (start/settings/connections/connections/advanced/select networks)
The top one 'programs that connect to the internet should connect using' is the key one for me, i have an orange gprs connection i need to ensure this has orange gprs or it will not connect, and vise versa if connecting through wireless it has to be My Work Network

Where are the WIFI settings held??

I wish to know -- where are the WIFI settings held-(I do a lot of tweaking for my HD and sometimes I mess it up, but the guy who knows wifi password of my place, lives in Garkalne, Im in Adazi ( about 10 km difference)--my wifi goes only about 20m )
So I need to backup my wifi settings or atleast the password -- where is the password held -- in registry, windows, anywere --- just name it and how to get there!!??

well access your wireless router with the provided ip address.
i think it may be 192.168.1.1 and you will easily see it around wireless security.

Sorry -- I didnt understand that --- can you give me a step by step
My wifi network is password protected it has two networks 1.- provides internet, password protected.;;;;; 2.- doesnt provide internet, not password protected, Its for those cases when he forgets the password for the 1st network so he can bypass it and go straight to the internet-- I dont know how he does it

The security information is stored within your WIFI router.
As to how to access and maintain it, it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. I have five different ADSL modem/router in the past few years and all of them has different way of getting into the configuraiton menu. Some needs me to type in 10.1.1.1, the others uses different address. You need to refer to your user manual for your equipment (if you can't find it , make a call to your ISP's support center, and they will definitely be able to tell you).
Once you're in the configuration menu. navigating to the place where the security setting is kept again differ in each case, and again you should read your user manual to find out, or call up your ISP's support centre for help.

I dont have any manual on the wifi router-- its custom made!!!
BTW--- I want to see my wifi settings in my TOUCH HD not in the router (forgot to mention that in the first post ) --- So where are the wifi settings held in my TOUCH HD

It's in Start/setting/connection/WIFI/Advance.
The Main tab lets you change which WIFI network you want to connect to. When you click on change network, you can pick whichever one that shows as available. Once you click on it, if that access points requires Authentication, by clicking the next button you will specify all the details such as network key, etc.
Hope this is what you're looking for.
The power mode tab lets you specify if you want more performance or battery life

----> when I enter the password for the wifi network-- I wish to know where my THD saves the password----the guy who knows wifi password doesnt give it to me so I want to find it on my device---where is it saved on blackstone

Please explain in detail what you want to do again.

He doesn't know the wifi password to "his" network because the guy who knows the password won't give it to him.
He's asking if a plaintext version of the password is saved in the Touch HD somewhere for "his" network.
I find it a little sus that he doesn't know the password for "his" own network, or that the person who set it up won't give him the password, so he's trying to find it this way.

Thats right--- btw im 15 years old- so he doesnt trust me the password!!!
So is there a plain text version of the password on THD

i would like to know it too because at school i dont know the password to the internet , it was just typed into the touch HD. thanks

ICS 4.0.3 Wifi - Setting Static IP not possible?

I turned on wifi but was unable to access / change my IP to a static IP . I couldnt find the option under wifi - advanced as well. The new options allow me only to change my Signal Band (2.4gz/5gz) but not change my IP address or put a static IP.
Any thoughts?

It's right there
Press and hold your connected access point
Check Show advanced options
Click IP settings and change from DHCP to Static
Enter your IP/DNS

Is this also the case with proxy server? I have an Asus Transformer on ICS that allows me to save Proxy per access point, and I'm hoping the GNote will also do this on ICS.

If you have. .. You can save and you can connect

Just checked myself, glad to see this!
Long press on the network you want to change, click 'Modify network config'
Then you need to change the 'IP settings' pull down box from DHCP to Static, otherwise the rest will remain greyed out.
Hope thats all clear.

I have had the same problem.

Wouldn't is be a better option to have your router reserve a specific IP address for the MAC address of your Note? That way you won't have to change the settings on your Note when you want to connect to a different network.

It would, but that's a bit too technical for most users, as it requires going into advanced settings of your router. Most people don't even know their routers IP address, let alone configure MAC-level access!
Also the default setting is for DHCP on all networks, so the user doesn't have to worry when connecting to any network.
In ICS, they have introduced the option of allowing different IP settings for each network. In previous android versions, you could only have 1 global setting that affected all networks.
I like to use a static IP on my home network, but every over network I connect to requires DHCP. So previously, I had to disable Static IP to access other networks (or use an app called Wifi static!).
It's no wonder I was confused 'Wifi static' was no longer working

With the long press stuff --> modify network and add the static IP, it seems not work for me. My phone is a samsung galaxy s3.
Do u think the phone need to be rooted to gain superior access privilegde?
And my setup network @home is ad-hoc. So cant reserve any ip on a router.

if by "not work" you mean that you can't see an option to change from DHCP to static, it may simply be because the on-screen keyboard automatically appears at that setup page (so you can enter a password) and it obscures the options further down the page.
So, you need to:
1. long press on your connection to go into "modify network config"
2. press capacitive "back" key (or click "done") to reveal the bottom of the page
3. check the "show advanced" tick box
4. scroll down beyond the visible part of the page to get to DHCP setting.

here's my solution on my note ICS
1. long press wifi connection, enter your network password
2. change dhcp to static
3. fill ip address of your device
4. FILL NETWORK PREFIX OF YOUR STATIC WIFI NETWORK (NETWORK PREFIX is substitution of NETMASK ADDRESS (eg 255.255.255.255) see table here ttp://gabbtech.blogspot.com/2012/09/subnet-mask-address-dan-persamaannya.html
5. fill other requirement (gateway,dns,etc)
6. You should be able to click greyed out SAVE button now
