What rom are you using? And what tether (I think, you mean wifi-tethering) app? Tell us the "experiment" and also the results. You can't get the IP or you can't solve DNS or you can't see the SSID?
using cm7.0.1. and wifi tether 2.0.7(newest)
some notebooks get the signal but some dont. cant see ssid( out of range)
Never mind man! It is a common problem in tablet.

hi
try getting the wifibuddy from the Market and use it on ur phone
it works for me
Hello,
my Tattoo also connects to every wifi point except the one at home, with which I have no problems at all using my 2 laptops and a PS3! To be precise, it gets connected but there is no data transfer at all. I've tried various roms and 3rd party software including wifibuddy that haree suggested, but still no luck.
So what else is there to try?
Thanks in advance!
Can anyone help me figure out how to wirelessly tether to my ps3 the app won't work
Completely the wrong section.
First of all, if you have a ROM and kernel compatible with Wireless Tether, all you should have to do is turn it on and the PS3 will see it.
Second, it's going to be an awful experience if you're expecting to game over this connection... You'll lag like a sonuvabitch.

The PS3 cannot view an ad-hoc connection.
And no, you won't lag... I play Xbox 360 nightly on a 3G connection. There isn't even a need to turn 4G on.
To the ORIGINAL QUESTION, the only way you'll be able to wireless tether with your PS3 is if you connect to your phone with your laptop, then reroute the connection as an access point to your ps3. Look into programs like "Connectify".
Thanks a lot

False, You can just Flash the Mobile AP 9000 app also here in the developer section. Its creates a true wifi connection, not and ad-hoc connection.

You need to be on a stock, odex'd rom. Deodex'd ROMs do not work. I would say that Wired Tether to a laptop with Connectify is a better solution.
Konane...is there any chance of releasing an odexed ver of ure rom so this mobile ap wud work?

Not sure what kind of crazy lucky internet connection city you live in, but my 4g upload speeds are faster than my home internet upload speeds. Download speeds do not matter since they so far exceed what is needed. I live in Houston and yes we have pretty slow internet here.

Yes it is, but the iPod Touch has no problem with those... Neither does the X-Box.
Ps3 and Wii seem to not want to support it.

I can't connect to my Wii or nds with connectify and they don't support ad-hoc neither... how sure are you about the deodex thing? I might decide to keep my phone stock simply due to this... and I was so excited to install a custom rom on my new epic today too...

With a rom that is not Deodexed you can use the MobileAP posted in the dev forum. I run my wii off of it on occasion.
Would like to ask if anyone install and work with the wifi router app successfully in X8 after rooting the official Android 2.1 ROM? I am planning to buy it, see if anyone has tried it before or not. Thanks a lot!
Wifi is pretty weak on X8. Processing signal and forwarding it it's too much for a small phone like this.
(I didn't find any wifi router software)
Thanks for your feedback, because one of my plan is using it as wifi hotspot for other device to connect to internet~
Barnacle works flawlessly in mine! You'll need it rooted of course.
I guess it's sharing 3g internet over wi-fi, right? I don;t have it and doesn't work.
or just can use wifi tethering http://www.appbrain.com/app/tethering/com.guardam.Tethering

No.....
Hello everyone,
As we all know, Honeycomb out of the box does not support/enable connecting to Adhoc networks, which many WiFi tether programs use.
There is a fix out there for the Nook color, and previous Android versions, but they do not appear to work for the Tranformer (tried both the .zip and manually but not the manual method).
I am unknowledgeable with the Android OS, and would really like to figure out a way to make my Transformer connect to an Adhoc network.
Any links or comments is appreciated!
Thank you.
Me to,
I just tried to Wifi tether to my Droid and it didn't work. I have no trouble doing the same with my Viewsonic Gtab. I know i'm using Gingerbread on the Gtab and not Honeycomb, but a solution to this problem would be great.

This is true, and I was able to get it to tether by upgrading and using infrastructure mode, but I believe there are many things such as some corporate networks that use Adhoc.

I seriously doubt that many corporate networks are using adhoc Wifi networks!
Out of the box, Android doesn't support adhoc networks, but it can usually be enabled by editing the wpa_supplicant.conf file on rooted devices.

Dave

As you acutal now the Galaxy Note didn't suported Ad-hoc in GB there was a trick and we just had to change the wpa_suplicant, but this doesn't work anymore with ICS. So anyone know if there is a new way to geht Ad-hoc function back to the Note ?
there is wifi direct option, i haven't tried it yet, but you say it won't work ?
My Problem is i don't own a wifihub for my internet connection but i have a stick wifi stick for my computer so i'am creating via Win7 an Ad-hoc network for my Note to get faster internet.
And this connection is normaly not supported by the Note, just the way that my Note opens his connection that my computer could use the Notes Internet....
I gave it a try to fix this problem with the way from GB and change the wpa_suplicant but this way doesn't work anymore..
The way via Wi-Fi Direct you mentioned neither work as my try the Note don't find the network and can't connect :-/

Why don't you try Connectify? It creates a wifi access point, similar to the one created by a router. I can confirm it works.

I wonder if there is a Custom Rom out yet which is on ICS and supports Ad-hoc, if so i could try to get the wpa_suplicant and try it out with that file...
Bumping this thread up. I went to ICS, loved it, came back to CheckROM NoteHD V6 because in I need to use my iPad's MyWi to be the hotspot. On Ipad, only Ad Hoc MyWi tethering is supported.
Even I would like a solution to ad hoc connection so use windows vista on my computer and I am not rooted
Any solution is welcome

Just use TetherMe it enables native Wifi Hotshot [which isn't AD-Hoc, IIRC] on the iPad, has worked flawlessly for me on my last two iPhone 4's.
