My USB port seems to be broken after my phone got sort of wet in my pants during a cloudburst . I didn't realize the phone had gotten wet inside after way to long. I can see a bit of copper rust inside the port. Is there anyway to clean/fix it?
Just give it to a Service Center, say USB port isn't working, don't day it got wet.
Regards.

I think they will see it got wet because there are moisture indicator stickers inside and wet means out of warranty right? It's even worse than I thought, I can't shut down the phone, it will restart and when I take out the battery and put it back in it will show the charging icon flashing the overheating icon
this really sucks, I have never seen rain like this in Holland before

My USB chord and charger wont work with my vibrant. It turns on and everything when placing a charged battery in it but it wont charge it. My USB port is really really loose and I need to know how to make it tighter.
Additional information: I'm 100% sure it isn't the rom or the charger I'm using. The problem is the USB port.

I had a issue like this, it was the cord I went to a local computer store and got another cord for 5 bucks that was longer and it doesn't wiggle at all. My sammy cord really only lasted about a month then it cracked at the mini hdmi part and was loose.

If you mean the port on the phone being loose i had this happen on a Blackberry and I ended up doing a insurance claim and getting a replacement. Now of you still inside one year since purchase call up T-Mo and they should replace it.

Well the problem with this is I've installed an FFC and had to scrape the paint out of the inside of the phone. You can clearly see the hole and I don't know how to cover it back up.

Do you know how to solder?
No but I'm a quick learner... Besides, how hard could it be?
Yup. Left phone on charger overnight - woke up and the camera was flashing every 2 seconds. That's all it will do. Whether it's hooked up, unhooked. As long as the battery's in that's what it does. No rom changes in over 2 weeks. No damage of any sort.... no recovery or anything
Well you can probably do a warranty exchange.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
I had something similar with my nexus one. Except it wasnt the camera but the trackball... changing kernels around seem to help a bit but eventually i took it for water damage. Take the battery out and let it dry off for a day or two. You can also try to pry it open and have your hand at any corrosion if you find any. However i wouldnt recommend that unless you know what yer doing.

He said it was left on the charger, not fell in water.
I'd crap my pants if this happened to me.

I realize that but like i said i had the same experience and my phone didnt get noticably wet at any time could have been a single drop of water and corrosion takes a while to build up.
Still...
Im wondering if you used your original charger when this happend because i can personally say ive seen my atrix behaving strange when connected to some cheap random charger (touch screen not working for example). Didnt believe it could cause permenant damage though.

It was hooked up with a Blackberry charger, actually.
Still acts the same.
Check the charger to see if its power ratings are different than your otiginal one.
Also... does the device boot up in any way or is the screen simply black and the flash flickering no matter what?

Looking at it today, I noticed that the charger port (or inlet if you will) is very structurally loose. The voltage on the blackberry charger is about 3/5 that of the stock Atrix charger, if memory serves me - somebody at work switched out the chargers the day after I got the phone. It took a good 6 hours to charge...
ATT said that it would be full cost of phone, because it's personal damage.
I'm looking into the Mi-One.
EDIT: No, the screen will not even begin to come on. Camera flashing is the only indicator of any power. Used an external battery charger, and two different batteries.
The MI-One looks sweet!!!!

Moto will probably either fix it or send you another phone. I know people who bricked from trying to downgrade and they got another phone. I'm sure you could too. I would try that before you buy another phone.
ETA: Now that I think about it not being able to put the rom back to stock would probably be an issue if they can get it to turn on but if they can't they might replace it.

I also think you should bring it up with motorola. Waking up to find your phone bricked is hardly what id call personal damage. You also shouldn't bring up the charger issue. And as for the usb port i'd say it would take too much effort to discern the connection with that and the phone acting as it is, and im sure they would rather just send a replacement unit.
A usb port malfunctioning is hardly an account for personal damage. The usual case is they simply stop working, but definitely not brick your entire phone.

Hello everyone.
I seem to have a bit of a problem. The tip of my A500s charger, the end going to the tablet, seems to have broken in half....while inside the tablet. So now there is a bit of charger stuck in the port...and I cant conceive a way to safely extract it. It still charges if I plug the other half of the charger in so the situation isnt dire, but it is a bit touchy with how it must be positioned. Anyone have any idea how I can get that thing out of there...?

Yeah, and when it eventually breaks a bit more then it won't charge at all :S I'd definitely try to get it out. As the other guy mentioned, you could try tweezers. Another thing you could try is use some long, slim object and attach a SMALL drop of superglue to it, stick it carefully to the stuck part and watch that you don't get glue anywhere else, and wait for it to dry. Then just pull it out. I've had to do that myself to a few devices and it usually works great, the problem is just finding something slim enough.

Early on mine broke, and the pin inside the tablet got stuck on my charger tip. Had to send it in for repair (covered under warranty). To be honest, I've yet to see a worse charger design than the A500. The Thrive has a laptop charger and port.

Are you MacGyver?
Thanks for the replies everyone! That superglue idea is nothing short of genius!

same thing happened to mine less than a month after owning the tablet. i just stuck the charger in and pressed it towards an edge as i pulled it out. it brought the little piece out with it. ended up having to buy another charger. from day 1, i knew the included charger wasn't good news...
this happened to mine also, and i pulled the pin out from the inside and the new charger doesn't fit, and i'm thinking that i was suppose to pull it out, anyone can tell me? or show a close up of the hole, my warranty ends this month and hope they cover it. thanks.
I've used the superglue trick to extract a dime from a seatbelt receiver in a car. Use the glue sparingly, let it set, and it can work. SPARINGLY. If you have to do it again, so be it. Better than too much and causing new problems.
The same thing happened to me. I was able to get it out with a tiny screwdriver and a little patience. I bought a replacement directly from Acer. Buy the one for the A100. The wire is longer than the stock one and I haven't had a problem with the new one.
Im no longer able to recharge my A500. Last charge was two days ago and now the battery is dead and it wont charge. Should be no problem with the charger or cord as far I can see. Any ideas? Anyone had the same problem?
Thanks,

Could be 2 things.
1. Charger is fubarred
2. Battery is toasted
Charger you can check with a multi-meter.
Technically, if your tab isn't under warranty, you can find instructions and pop the back cover off and actually change the battery (if you can find a replacement)
How about giving it a good hard smack on the back as an attitude adjustment?
Did you wiggle the plug when it's connected? (while watching the on/off switch)
As a last ditch effort, put the tab in the freezer for 30 minutes. Freezing cold does wonders for electronic contact points. An old trick for dead hard drives, along with the good 'ol fashioned smack.

Thanks. Just picked up a multi -meter thing. Its under warranty (by law here in Sweden) so no problems there. Ill try the smack and freezer as well. Hopefully it'll start again and I wont have to send it away.
Thanks again.

The center conductor on the tablet could have broken loose from the PCB. I here it's a common problem with the Iconia.

Yeah, I thought about that also awhile ago (hence the wiggle jiggle and watching the light) Also hear if you're not careful, the jack itself can get pretty loose, losing contact. It doesn't appear to be the strongest of things, but, one just has to be a little careful I guess.
A customer brought a EVO that apparently has water damage and will not charge. I charged the battery via an external charger and it works fine, i replaced the power port but it still wont charge.
I put the phone on my BGA station to heat up the phone and get rid of all the moisture and yet it still wont charge but works with battery. Its possible its a BGA chip, but all the components LOOK fine.
Any ideas??
Water damage is tricky, it could have damaged any number of chips on the main board. Your best bet is to replace the whole board itself to avoid future problems.
Hey,
Sorry to hear about that, water damage is always tricky because you never know to what extent the damage has occurred. I would try the through it in a container with rice trip to make sure it is completely moisture clear, but I really doubt that will work. It sounds like the water fried something between the power port and the mother board. sorry about your troubles hope you find a solution!

That wont work at this point, the damage has already been done by the previous user trying to turn it on when the phone was still wet.
Yeah ive had it where mine wont charge b4 too, but it was bcus of a universal charger I was using I guess, cus it doesnt work now either
