Hi guys im new here and i have some questions ( srry of some of them are dumb )
1- what is Flash SBF Milestone 2 RETAIL BRAZIL?
what exactly it does?
2- when android 2.3 gingerbread will be avaliable for us?
3- (it's about regina app) why this app always refresh the whole regina app when my m2 lockscreen? is it normal?
4- how can i change the ugly slidebar and vibration for my m2? (if it can be done)
5- i saw a tuti about "Install and run 2nd-init on Milestone2" what is that ?
6- im thinking to install [ROM]Argen2Stone v1.9, but i dont know the goods about it.
7- ( if it's possible ) can i update my m2 2.2 to 2.2.1 or 2.2.2 ? what are the possibilites for us ? ( m2 owners )
thanks all!
I'll try to answer some of your questions:
1.-
2. Nobody knows that. Not an exact date anyway. Motorola said something like that there will be something in Q3 or maybe Q4. GB for M2 is leaking right now but it does not say something about the release date after all.
3. I don't have that app.
4. There are lockscreen programs in the market. Mine is called WidgetLocker and it beautifully does it's job.
5. As far as I know you'll be able to edit some registry settings with 2nd init. Not so sure.
6. Most of the people using Argen2Stone say it's a faster running rom. It has some nice features included but not so many changes after all.
7. Yes, there have been official updates by Motorola. You'll be able to update via the internet. Just go to the official Motorola hompage. But do not hope for many changes, basically it's just bugfixes.
With respect to the screen refresh, I get the same issue with LauncherPro, not every time but often enough. I think its normal.
I have modified vibration for SMS and email through a program called WhoIsIt, its designed for having certain ringtones for your contacts but it does allow for some vibration modifications

1 - Flash Brazil SBF: Each country has a SBF, which is a file that is flashed in the phone and has all the files it needs to work. You need to flash brazil SBF because Argen2Stone was developed over brazilian sbf. If you apply it over a different country SBF, there is a huge change that something will go wrong.
2 - When Moto leaks/release it
3 - I'm assuming Regina is a launcher. Every app is put on sleep when you lock your phone, to save resources. So, every time you unlock it, the app has to redraw everything. It's normal.
4 - One more to WidgetLocker. Great app. The stock unlock slider is really laggy.
5 - Don't worry about that. Custom ROMs already have 2nd Init installed. Just flash a custom ROM (like Argen2Stone for us)
6 - Some freezed apps, some eye candy, 2nd Init. It's a pretty sweet cooked ROM. It's better than stock.
7 - There is an update to 2.2.2, but I'm not sure about the benefits. Argen2Stone 2.0 is coming with 2.2.2
I thanked you all guys ,
you gave me alot usefull infos.
I liked the app called "widgetlocker lockscreen" a really nice app.
Now a question, well i have android 2.2 installed at mine MM2.
the official moto site doesnot give us android 2.2.1
can any of you guys point me where can i get that update or how to do it? i mean , tools and step for step how to do ? 2.2.1 or to 2.2.2 (because higher version mean better stability and etc right?) I want at least 2.2.1
now about to install [ROM]Argen2Stone v1.9
any of you guys can point me a tuti/link how to install [ROM]Argen2Stone v1.9 step by step?
Thank you for your patience and attention.
Really quick (but complete) "tutti" =D
You have to download RSDLite (latest version if possible) and Motorola Drivers. Just do a quick search on Google, it's easy to find. Install RSD Lite and then the drivers.
Now the fun part:
1. Flash Brazillian SBF
2. Root your phone
3. Download Droid 2 Bootstrapper (it works on M2, don't worry)
4. Click on "Bootstrap Recovery" in Droid 2 Bootstrapper
5. Copy A2S files to /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/A2S/ (create this folder if it doesn't exist)
6. In Droid 2 Bootstrapper, click on "Reboot Recovery". The phone will reboot and show a black and green screen. You can navigate on this screen using volume keys or the arrow keys on the keyboard, and select options with the Ok key or the camera key (full press).
7. Select "Wipe Cache Partition" and confirm. It's really quick.
8. Select "Backup and Restore", "Restore" and choose Argen2Stone folder.
9. Let the phone do the job. It will copy a bunch of files in your phone. After that, select "Reboot Now"
10. The phone has to rebuild some things (I think it's Dalvik's partition, but I'm not sure). It'll take some time. Go drink a coffee or take a walk. About 5min for it to finish. If it gets stuck in the Bootlogo, remove the battery and restart it. If it goes to CWM Menu (the green thing) just select "Restart Now"
That's it. The easiest way to flash A2S.
Just a warning: There is a huge chance that you'll not be able to flash Brazillian SBF due to RSDLite bugs. Uninstall both driver and RSD Lite and reinstall, then try again. Maybe entering bootloader will help: turn off your device, hold Vol Up and Camera and then turn it on again, without releasing the keys. You'll get into a black screen with a white number on it. Try to flash now.

I'm rooted but have never ran anything but stock on my phone. Only having experience with flashing WinMo devices, what exactly do I need to know before flashing a custom ROM?
If I flash, do I lose the data on my phone now (does it do a factory wipe)?
Most times toy will need to do a wipe of the data and cache to get a full rom working correctly.

Yeah, thanks.. Just downloaded ROM manager and Clockworkmod Recovery ($2), kinda following the instructions from Gummys post.
How long does this process take? I installed from SD and did the reboot.. I must of waited a good fifteen minutes before pulling the battery assuming it was stuck. Now it's sitting on the Gummy Screen with the 4 rotating colored android pics.
Got into recovery but it's not allowing me to apply the update.zip (e:can't open/cache/recovery/command)?
Dang it! I was in the middle of posting the following instructions when I got interrupted (at work)
Code:
Flashing will wipe your phone. The nice thing with android is -anything you have purchased or installed from the market will automatically be restored to your phone after you log in using your gmail account.
Let me qualify my statement though - I have flashed a few roms and my free apps were not automatically installed for whatever reason. My purchased apps were not installed either - but they were available for installation at no charge.
Here is another important thing to remember - this will only happen if you chose the correct settings in -uh well- settings. There are some options in there to back up your data to google. If you did that then 95% chance it will all be good.
I recently switched from the DX to the D1 (gave my wife the DX bc I wanted to try some D1 roms) and all my apps were installed and somehow google even migrated my current wallpaper over! I was blown away by that.
Also -make sure your contacts are set up to sync with google. if they are just being added to your phone and not in sync with your google account you are going to loose them all.
Flashing roms:
1. You need to get the droidx bootstrapper app from the market (or I think you can get it for free if you search clockwork mod on google and go to Koush's website. I just bought it to help the developer.).
2. Open the app.
3. Press the "Bootstrap recovery button"
4. You should get a dialog box saying success (or something and then press ok).
5. Press "reboot recovery".
6. Your phone will reboot into clockwork recovery (not the stock phone recovery). It will be a black screen with old school green letters and a menu.
a. In recovery you do not have a touch screen.
b. The volume rocker is up/down.
c. The camera button is "Enter".
d. The physical back button will take you back one menu (also I believe the power button but I always used the power button.
7. The first thing you want to do before you do anything is make a nandroid (backup) of your phone.
8. The opening screen of recovery has the option to create a nandroid. do that.
9. It takes around 5 minutes then choose to reboot your phone when it says, ""complete".
10. To flash a rom put ti...
Wish I would have just posted what I had. Maybe you would have had a nandroid to revert to.
Dang.
Yea. It shouldn't take that long. Sounds like something got hosed. I am getting interrupter again. I will try and get back with some info.
Awesome info, thanks for this. Did a factory wipe and now it's booting up normally (or so it appears into Gummy), will definitely bookmark that info though, thanks again man!
Were you installing Gummy. And did you follow the instructions exactly?
****EDIT****
looks like you got it. glad to hear that.
I cant post in the thread because I am "new" so I am asking here.

Post 1 says:
NOTES:
You MUST be on CyanogenMod 7 or .340 Froyo to flash this rom!
Remember to wipe before flash!
On 1.7.22.1: It is on Rom Manager, Click Check for Updates!
You must go into settings and change resolution of MIUI Camera to get it to work.
Do not wipe to install it.
Market apps are fixed!
Post 2 says:
If you haven't heard about this ROM yet then check out the videos in the 2nd post to see it in action!
This is an excellent ROM if for no other reason than it introduces the first non-CyanogenMod/carrier/manufacturer framework overhaul of Android 2.3.4 and boy what an overhaul.
So what version should I have to install it?
I don't want to install and end up in a boot loop because we all know how hard it is to fix a Droid X when that happens
You must be on either CyanogenMod 7 or 340 Froyo. You must flash 1.7.22, not 1.7.22.1, it can be flashed later.
Also, it's not that difficult to fix a bootloop lol.

How do you get out of a boot loop with the Droid X?
I can't get into recovery unless I am in a Rom and run Droid 2 Bootstrapper
Well since I can't post in the real thread I will post here all the bugs I find.
1. Lot's off apps in the market don't work. I am talking a good 40-60 at least. There are a few important ones I use like Noom and Cardio Trainer.
Market shows that the app is incompatible with my device. Ti Backup tries to restore but either says it is successful or fails, it works neither time.
2. When I check Settings>System>About Phone and then click Systems Updates it force closes settings.
Reason I was checking this was because I tried to update using ROM manager but that didnt work.
3. ROM manager works, however it does nothing when I click "Check for ROM Updates"
4. Google Maps was said to be installed, maybe on the next version but since I cant install that I had to install it myself
5. Tethering and hotspots. No hotspot option shown. Also USB tethering did not seem to work. I tried the 4 different settings you can have the phone in when connected to USB but the status says USB not connected (obviously not true since I am able to connect and view my SD card through my computer)
6. ROM fails to load after a reboot. Happened to me twice and I had to SBF it back to stock for it to boot up. This happened when I just did a normal reboot
So for now I am done as I am looking at the Motorola logo even after a wipe of data and cache

I experienced a bootloop when I was flashing back to froyo 340 (droid logo, droid eye, droid logo, droid eye, and so on).
Here's what worked for me:
1. Power down the phone (battery pull)
2. Put battery back in
3. Hold home key, then hold the power key until the phone turns back on (you should see the M logo)
4. Press the search key when you see the Android next to the triangle
5. Using the volume up/down keys on the side of your phone and the camera button to select, wipe the data and cache (please note: you only need to push the camera button half way to select)
6. Reboot the phone and it should work, at least it did for me.

How did you flash miui? Did you flash it over CM7 or froyo 340?
SBF to stock 2.3.34
Wipe data and cache
Reboot
Install Z4Root and run (reboots on its own)
Install Droid 2 Bootstrapper (Flash recovery/Reboot recovery)
Install MIUI from zip
Reboot
It works fine for a while but after install some apps and fixing settings it wont get passed the Motorola screen.
This happened twice. I miss the OG Droid because if that happened you could just boot into recovery and load your last save and you are good to go

how are you installing the apps? manually from the market? or titanium backup?
Are you referring to post 4? If so I tried both ways. Market won't let me install the ones that I cant get installed. They just don't show up in the search. If I go onto the market website they are there but once I choose my phone it disappears.
Titanium fails when i try to install the apps
It's as if the phone is not broadcasting what model it actually is. So the apps that do work are just "works on any old Android" while the others ones say these devices only

Hi all, i bought Orange San Francisco few weeks ago, and now i am on stock ROM by Orange. (2.1 Enclair)
I wanted to ask other users what ROMs are recommended , and should i go for Froyo or Gingerbread?
My phone is Gen.1 and TFT screeen.
And also is Blade faster with custom ROM?
My two main reasons i wanna try custom rom are:
1. Moving apps to SD
2. Flash support
This is my first smartphone and i have never flashed a ROM before on phone, but i have read a lot about it and i think i understand WAY more than before.
Today i rooted my San Francisco, and i have
recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.8-blade-gen1 and RecoveryManager_v0.37b on my PC ... will copy them to SD using USB cabel.
But i need to know what ROM works good without bugs...
Any help is welcome , thx in advance
You should see a good speed improvement using a custom rom over the Eclair stock rom. I would go for one of the Gingerbread roms as they are the most up-to-date, and most seem pretty good for everyday use. Personally I use CyanogenMod7, but everyone has their own preference.
To install most of the gingerbread roms, you'll need to convert your phone to Gen 2. You can do that by following the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258855
That will convert your phone to Gen 2 and install Clockwork in one go. After you've done that, you can install your chosen rom. Put the rom on your sdcard before you do the TPT so its ready to go. Once the TPT is finished, it will boot into Clockwork. From there you just navigate to "install zip from sdcard" using the vol+/vol- keys and use "home" to select, "back" to go back. Then pick "choose zip from sdcard" and navigate to the rom zip you put on earlier. Once its done, you just reboot your phone, and thats you. If you decide to go for Cyanogen, remember you also need to install the google apps (gapps) zip as well.
Ideally you need to change to gen 2 this can be found in this forum, this will allow you to install most new roms such as cyanogen mod 7.1.0, it's a good Rom to use.

Ginger stir fry is pretty fast and close to stock but recently stopped development I believe.
However CM7 is more advanced and offers more options and tools.
Both are running on the latest android kernel and offer android 2.3.7.
CM7 uses the ADW Launcher, GSF uses the stock launcher. Both are nice, just a matter of preference, although ADW offers more options.
If you fancy froyo more (android 2.2) there's a rom around, can't recall the name right now, check the zte blade rom forum.
CM7 runs quite fast and stable if you turn the setting down a notch (no animations, 16bit transparecy and some more in the adwlauncher).
There's a lot of support for the ZTE blade, here and on MoDaCo, but the key is trying a few things out.
Installing a new rom is childsplay so test a few out for a week or so to find one of your liking.
Don't forget to install the google apps package along with the rom (contains the market, gmail, goggles, etc.) and you can make a backupp of your apps with Titanium Backup, spares you a fresh download and install
Thx 4 reply i decided i will try CM 7.1 using guide on this link:

You just need an app that can check md5sum files, there are lots of others, I haven't tested them all. I didn't realise AFV isn't available in some countries.
Either that or you just need to open android terminal, or adb shell & type
Code:
md5sum -c /sdcard/image/nandroid.md5
I used MD5 Checker to check md5 of:
CM7.1 Version (Upgrades from Gen1 to Gen2 & installs CyanogenMod 7.1 - all in one) and number in guide matched number i got in MD5 Checker.
But reading the flash guide it says i have to :
(long press on nandroid.md5 file, then Verify Nandroid Backup)
I dont have that option: Verify Nandroid Backup.
Also i try without doing that part, i just copied CM7.1 Version (Upgrades from Gen1 to Gen2 & installs CyanogenMod 7.1), unzipped it and pressing volume + and menu button while power up, but my phone froze on green Android robot logo...
I just unplugged battery and it works normal again.

The Verify Nandroid Backup option is what its called in AFV. Other apps may not have that option or it may be called something different.
When you say it works normally again do you mean the TPT worked, or its just back the way it was? If its just back the way it was and the TPT did nothing, was the image folder on the root of your sdcard? Did you hold the menu and vol+ buttons and then press the power button, continuing to hold them for a few seconds?
If you did all of this and it hasn't changed anything, try with another sdcard if you have one. Some just don't seem to work for whatever reason.
back the way it was and the TPT did nothing...
But i was first holding power button, and then holding vol+ and menu buttons with power button.
I see that in same guide one person had same problem (stopped @ green Android logo).
I didnt put it in any folder just on SD card and unzipped, then Image folder was created with other sub-folders.

Download gen1 to gen2 (there is a download link in this section) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258855
Unzip the file and place the image ( the image is called image, not gen1 to gen2) on the root of your sd card (ideally it is best to do this on a pc)
Also download and place the Rom you wish to use on the root of your SD card (cyanogenMod 7.1.0 stable release works well) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297776
DO NOT UNZIP THE ROM at this stage.
Put the SD card back into the phone.
Power off the phone, hold menu & vol + (up) & power at the same time, you should see some green writing, wait until it is finished (well done your phone is now gen2)
You should now arrive at the clockwork recovery screen, if not power off the phone, then hold vol - (down) and power (together), clockwork will boot.
Now using clockwork recovery, clear data/factory reset, then install your rom from the zip, that is all there is to it, obviously you'll have to enter your login details to use the market and sync your contacts etc, but your phone should now be working.
Don't forget to make a nandroid backup.
Goodluck

That thread is really out of date though, the first post was last updated 3 months ago. The roms that those TPTs would install are much older than the current ones, and the partition sizes will be too small in some cases too. Much better to use the other TPT thread that's already been linked.
Ginger Stir fry is the best I have used simply because it is super fast and pretty close to the stock 2.3, as for flash I just downloaded a arm v6 last night and it works pretty well. cant link but if you search reddit for
"flash 10.3 for ARMv6"
There should be a thread.

Vote for Cyanogenmod. Newest Android version, 2.3.7. I think it's pretty stable today. Why I think it's better than any other rom, is because it has so much features. Plus theming! Android looks ugly without themes, as you may have noticed!

(if any benevolent mod feels this a worthy post, kindly replace my broken links with real ones. I am but a lowely new member. I'm also unsure if it should go here or Q/A, please move if inappropriate)
I got my wife a Bravo yesterday (unlocked, from Amazon) for her to use. These are the steps I took to get it up and running with CM7. This is from unboxing through to success.
On with it!
Sim in, Fire up phone. I gave Blur garbage info to make it go away. The internet assures me there is some way to initially bypass blur, but I could not find it.
Upon getting into the phone, turn on usb debugging (Settings -> Applications -> Developement)
On your computer, install the official Motorola drivers, located here: ht tp://www.motorola.com/Support/US-EN/Support-Homepage/Software_and_Drivers/USB-and-PC-Charging-Drivers
Connect the bravo to your machine, let all the drivers install. On the bravo, change the USB connection to Mass Storage
Download CM7 and the Google Apps packages from this thread: ht tp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445839
Put both of these zip files on the Bravo's SD card.
Download SuperOneClick from the first post on this thread: ht tp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Unzip its contents to a folder on your computer and run it. In the upper right hand corner, select Expoit: psnuter
Click Root.
Note; If you have any driverless hardware on your machine, SOC will prompt to force the install of adb drivers. DO NOT DO THIS. For example, I have some Dell poop on my machine I never bothered finding drivers for.
SuperOneClick should spin through its root process and succeed with no further intervention on your part. Your phone should now be rooted.
From here, unplug your Bravo. Reboot it.
When it comes up, fire up the Market and go buy (yes, money, a whopping $1.50) BandroidX's excellent Bravo Bootstrap app. Here is a thread for reference: ht tp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1047292
When it installs, launch it. Superuser will prompt you to give it root perms, tell it Yes and remember.
Click the "Bootstrap Recovery" button. This "installs the bootloader" (for lack of more specific terminology). Be patient, on mine it succeeded right away, but the Dev warns it may take time.
I did a normal power off / power on at this point. Probably uneeded, but I just really love the Motorola boot animation.
Once back on, go back into BandroidX's app and click the "Reboot Recovery" button. Your phone will immediately reboot into a (possibly familiar) CMW-esq screen. You will navigate up and down with the volume buttons, select with the power button.
Wipe the cache, confirm
Wipe the dalvik cache, confirm
Wipe Data / Factory Restore
Install from Zip: select cm7 zip file off SD card. Let it do its thing.
Install from Zip: select google apps zip, let it finish.
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Reboot Device.
The second two cache wipes may be uneeded. I came from Atrix modding where all good results were surrounded by cache wipes
The first time cyanogen boots, mine hung on the CM7 boot animation indefinetly (I let it sit 30 minutes)
I did a battery pull to reboot.
After that, it started beautifully. Hello CM7!
The big red danger: I have done this whole process three times (restoring to sbf via rsd each time, but thats for another tutorial). The first two times, after flashing CM7, I tried to install BandroidX's bootloader. After clicking the magic top button, my device would no longer boot, instead Hang on the first red M screen. Regular phone recovery menu data wipes did not fix. Had to use RSD. This may be documented in a thread I could not find, but be aware of it.
I hope this helps somebody else out there. All credit goes to the devs who did the ACTUAL work that I laid out here.
The Bravo Bootstrap app is not necessary. You can use 2ndInit Recovery for the Defy and it's free. BTW, I do own Bravo Bootstrap and found 2ndInit a day later....kinda made me mad. Link to 2ndInit Thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1032212
Absolutely correct. And as I look at the second sentence of that post you linked, I realize why trying to stamp bravo-recovery on CM mucked up my world :/
Live and learn I suppose!
an absolutely perfect guide. I too had to flash sbf twice but for different reasons. I hope those who are having the same problems as I did find this post and similar ones. Thanks!
*edit*
you might want to add an extra step on how to flash Gapps(google apps for those who don't know, things like g-mail and the market and such) link to the forum where you can find gapps is here:
htt p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445839
(can't post links, sorry for the huge inconvenience ) enjoy!
Special thanks to everyone who has helped me out! skevy420, quarx, josuearisty, bandroidx, and anyone else I missed!
good guide
I tried it and it worked! Thank you so much - I am completely new to smartphone modding of any kind and could never have done it on my own.
Extremely noob question - where is the "thanks" button?
Edit: Never mind, I found it.
Great guide, missing one thing.
As soon as someone points out which "google apps" stuff to download, I will hit the thanks button.
On the page this points to for the google apps, there is 40 files to choose from. I notice that some are labeled by date, but which group matters and what date is best?
To turn off blur\bypass blur setup, type eebluroffee on the first screen. Sometimes it takes a few tries, just keep trying eebluroffee and it'll eventually work.
The gapps for GB (CM7) is the 2011\08\28 version. It's linked in a few of the threads around here. ICS is the 2012\03\17 (latest the last time I checked, although a few of the apps are now outdated, like Play and GMail).
You can use the Hacked Gapps I made with CM7. Its in Bravo Themes and Apps. Its the same as the 2011\08\28 version, except that Market is updated to Play and Maps has the international navigaion hack.
I had to reflash the stock 2.2.1 SBF every time, until I did the wipes both BEFORE and AFTER.
No indefinite load screen... Just a beautiful custom ROM!
Oh, and I used "Defy 2ndinit" and installed the latest (1.0.7 or something).
This is my first Bravo to put a custom ROM on, but my second phone and that helped.
Now off to find/build custom themes!
EDIT: And thanks a bunch skeevy420!
I rooted my droid x on .621 using the method where you boot from a usb, and what to get a custom ROM like liberty ROM but will that set off the efuse and if so when i get stuck in recovery mode how would i fix that?
I haven't heard the term eFuse since 2009 xD
You will not set off anything that could potentially brick your device. If this is your first time flashing a ROM, be sure to make a nandroid backup in ClockworkMod Recovery.
This phone is almost impossible to brick. Anything that may go wrong with it can be reset with an easy SBF.
If you have any more questions I would be happy to answer them.

dude you've got to sbf back to stock droid x. i would use the .602 build and then you can always just update when back to .621 via about phone-software update.
but youre gonna have to find the sbf by searching online.

If you're on the .621 you cannot revert back to .602/.605. Moto broke this for us.
OP: If you use your Droid X on Verizon and don't want Linux (even though you can burn a live CD or make a bootable thumb drive) you can use the Windows RSD Lite method as well. Choice is yours

Before I decided to go back to CM9 there is a patched version of Liberty v3 2.0 that I was using for a long time that Goose306 over @ Rootz and Droid X Forums has been so gracious to make for us. It runs really smooth and you can put in as much or as little of the Moto Blur as you choose.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/21337-roms-multi-rom-thread-blur-based-roms-for-those-on-621604/
There's a list of roms that he's patched for those of us on the .621 OTA that starts about 1/3 of the way down the post and he's even provided detailed instructions on how to patch other roms for use on this update as well.

Just saying if you break it, you bought and I'm not responsible for anything adverse you do to your phone....
That being said, I'm going to assume you've never done any of this before. You will need to download the rom and the latest version of gapps for GB (not sure about the date, but you can grab it here: http://goo.im/gapps/ ) to your SD Card. DO NOT UNZIP THESE
(I'm doing the steps without actually flashing anything or wiping my data as I type this to give you perfect info)
You will need to grab Droid 2 Bootstrap off the play store ($1.99). Go in and hit Bootstrap Recovery. Grab Rom Manager while you're in the Play Store and update CWM to the newest version(make sure you choose Droid X 2nd Init). Reboot into CWM using Rom Manager and first things first before you touch any other option, MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP!!! Select Backup / Restore and then select backup. Let CWM do it's thing and then you will want to use the Power button to go back to the main menu. If you hit it one too many times, the screen will go black but don't panic! Just push it once to make everything come back.
Select "wipe data/factory reset" and scroll down and hit yes. This will wipe any apps you have installed and accounts as well as the system's cache. Once that's done, select "advanced" and then select "Wipe Dalvik Cache" then hit yes again. Once that part finishes, you will hit the power button once to go back to the main menu.
Now select "install zip from sdcard" and then "choose zip from sdcard". You will now need to navigate to where you saved the rom. Once you find it, select it, then scroll down and hit yes. When you get there, let it do it's thing. I'll wait
After that finishes hit choose zip from sdcard again and navigate to the gapps zip you grabbed. Install that as well.
Now hit the power button once more to go to the main menu and select Reboot System Now. Give it a few minutes to boot as it has to rebuild caches and the dalvik cache. When it comes up, you're all set! If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here and I'll give you a hand.

If you're still getting the error in the bootloader, then you need to SBF first since the kernel has probably been overwritten by the one from .602/.605. Since I don't use Google Talk the gapps package I use for GB roms for any phone is:
http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip
how are you trying to install the .zip?
