Root problem.... - Acer Iconia A500

Guys I had rooted my tab with the iconia root 1.3.....I wanted to unroot so I clicked on the option to unroot annd at the end I got a message......*something went wrong....are you still rooted?!?!....but the superuser apk is gone......so am I rooted or not......also when I click root again It says starting with root process..
extracting..
And then nothing happens....
Need imediate solution for this guys...
Sent from my XT720 using XDA App

Ok.....uninstalled iconiaroot....switched off and.rebooted my device.....installed iconia root again(v1.2 now)...it rooted me back.....but the same problem occurs with unrooting!

Same problem
I'd like a fix for this as well. I'm trying to test whether it is my rom or the fact that I am rooted leading to market errors on such apps as "Kindle", "Nook", "Overdrive" etc.
I realize that rooting removes the ability to rent movies on the market, but if it also screws up access to the ebook software (or any DRM restricted software), we really need a method to unroot, get what we need, and then reroot. Stealth root?
If they're going to purposefully block legitimate means of obtaining things... Well, that just saves me a lot of money.

Why don't you guys try asking in the Iconiaroot thread?

easiest way to tell is download terminal emulator from the market.
after it installs open it ant type "su" without quotes
if it says permision denied you are NOT rooted.
if it gives you a "#" sign you ARE rooted

The superuser.apk just doesnt remove when you unroot. Nothing is working as you didnt re-root.
If you want root again, simply root it again and you will be good.
I rerooted it over and over and still didn't w
ork.
Follow the manual rooting process and it will work. I promise.
Same thing happened to me but I had mine re-rooted within 5 minutes.
I NEVER trust those one click apps unless they come from UnrEVOked.
i have try different ways and still didnt work...could someone please help...
Honestly brother, you are giving people nothing to work with. You just say it didn't work. The manual root method will work, so as stated above use that. If you are saying you did use that method, then please describe where it is failing and what things look like. Post the link to the manual method that you have used, there are a few, which did you try, what steps did you follow?
Also, what do you mean it doesn't work/ You said you went into the superuser app and nothing is there. Well, I am confused as nothing is supposed to be there. The app does nothing when you click into it. It only goes into effect when you download and install a program that needs root. (an example is root explorer) When you install that app, it will open up superuser and ask for root permission and you can click to remember, etc and give it access. Explain what you mean by its not working......Unless you have apps that already have supervisor privs
i went to youtube....... when i type in the command ./exploid[/B it say denied.....Ok when i download rooted apps and try to open the apps superuser never come up for i can click allow....none of my rooted app ask for root permission. When i use the one click root process it say my phone have been rooted...
Follow the ROOT instructions in this post and in the links on that post.

You might have to try the . Exploid command a few times before it will prompt you for the password, TRY AGAIN! I had to run that command several times before it showed the password prompt.
when i get to the step i got to type ./exploid it keep sayin permission denied...I have try over and over still not working..can someone please help...

OK, I am going to try and help but only if you post what you have done, what you are following, etc. You cant make a blanket statement and expect people to know where you are at.
What files are you using, are you using the root that I linked you too? How are you typing things in? Dont put the "" around the commands like its typed, just type.
Did you in fact set up ADB correctly? When you push in step 2, what happens? When you go to adb shell after that, what happens, when you change directory's to sqlite_stmt_journal in step 4 what happens? etc.
If you want help man, you gotta be specific. This is why you are not getting a lot of replies.

[Q] Noob questions on Droid x from a former WinMo user

How do I know if my phone successfully rooted? I see lots of posts about using z4root to root (I want to use wireless like I did on my TouchPro2) but no one really says where to look to see if it's actually rooted. I ran z4 "temporary" and got the message that I was rooted til my next reboot but the wireless tether program doesn't start - I get an error message. Do I need to be permanently rooted for this to work? When I reinstalled my wireless tether program, it told me that I was NOT rooted, even though z4 thinks I am.
I received the OTA update so I am on stock 2.2.1 on a 2-week-old Droid X that I really want to like but.... I need tethering (preferably wireless) on a regular basis and I just can't get it to work. PDAnet won't install on my PC and the help from june fabrics was not helpful, so that is not an option. Using the multi-step turn radio on/off, etc. didn't seem to work either.
Any help would be most appreciated as I seem to be stuck in a bad loop.
Use z4root to permanently root.

Easy way to check is download android terminal emulator free from the market. Open it and type "su" (without the quotes) and hit enter. If the $ sign changes to #, you're rooted.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk
get a tool called "Root Explorer" Your gonna need it anyways also Koush "Recovery bootstrapper" you NEED this also.
Once installed see if they work. If not your not rooted .
Use Z4root to root as suggested from the other posters.
So apparently my problem was that I was only using the "temporary" option from z4root, not the "permanent". Thanks also for the advice on the other apps I need - once installed, I was able to figure out that I was not rooted until I used the "permanent" option.

Rooted Then Updated Then Lost Root??

I recently rooted my atrix with superoneclick then i accidently updated then i belive i still had my root until i went to install a 3d theme then my phone crashed and wouldnt get past the at&t screen so i had to erase everything now on my phone i still have "super user" in my app draw but i cannot side load apps did i lose my root? what do i have to do to sideload apps again ? and i guess re root my phone
Yes i am a newb i am comming from IOS and an iPhone 4 please dont flame
If you updated, you mean 4.1.57, this is what I did to re-root when I lost mine after updating and SuperOneClick wouldn't work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013931
Ok so i read that so basically i have to flash my phone back to default then root again?
Yeap, that's exactly what I did, but in that same thread, I think someone else outlined using aRoot to go over SuperOneClick.

Also, if I need aRoot, can I run it over top SuperOneClick, or would it be best to unroot, run aRoot (or let the script root) and then run the script?
I appreciate all the hard work I've seen done in these forums and appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Yes you may safely run aroot over superoneclick. Aroot is the recommended method because it cleans up a lot of things Superroneclick does.

Thank you both. I believe I will try running aRoot over my SuperOneClick root and then try out the script. Thanks again!

Yup the aRoot script is used in the GladiAtrix and possibly the GingerBlur rom as well. Either way. SOC is crap, not meant for atrix anyway. aRoot was written specifically for the Atrix. If you want to update to 4.1.57 read through the retain root thread over in atrix development.
after update, i can still see "su" installed in /system/bin/
I am unable to use it, getting permissioned denied message, any solutions ?

This has been explained many times. updating kills root, even though you still have superuser installed. to retain root you need to use the script in the development section when updating from 1.26 to 1.57. flash back to 1.26 and try again.

[Q] MiniCM-1.0.0-RC2 loosing Root???

Hi, everyone i am new here..
Today i had installed MiniCM-1.0.0-RC2, everything was fine but only loosing Root, i just wanted to know is just a common problem in this version MiniCM-1.0.0-RC2 or is just me or few unlucky ppl like me? I had done with superoneclik in order to have root access gain, the process showing success, but after restart the phone, the phone still in not root. Will it be fixed in future?
sorry for my bad english! I hope you all understand what im saying..thanks
Yes. everyone is losing root. just root again
@daredevil : he says after re-root, he didn't had the root back
@lookingpost : have you check it using root checker?
ya, i had try using superoneclick to re-root again, but after reboot it remained the same, i had try using root explorer to remount r/w or r/o, unfortunately didnt work, and i had checked with superuser, only titanium backup in the list and no other apps like setcpu or root explorer in there. I had try the superuser twice (the result showing success root), but after reboot, the result still the same.
Im using this superoneclick (provided a link)

hi. i updated my phone to 2.3.4 (sys 4.5.91 us) and i cannot get my root back. im pretty new to root but i do not want anything but root. not unlock, not new rom, not anything except root.
i had the latest version of Android and used Gingerbreak and i was extremely happy as it was so easy for me to do. i had root and that's all i wanted. but now... i updated to 2.3.4 and i did not unroot before this (maybe this is my problem) but my phone is fine, everything runs great. but i cannot root it. i used this walk-through http://www.atrixforums.com/forum/motorola-atrix-hacks/4414-how-root-motorola-atrix-all-versions-including-stock-locked-2-3-4-a.html and finished it all. everything went through and i still don't have root.
i have done it 3 times now and successfully competed the steps. i still have no root. can someone direct me or walk me through another way of rooting or by chance giving me advice on what to do so i can get root? im not a scientist and i know it doesn't take one...but all i know is i just cant get my phone rooted and want it rooted badly.
someone please help me. i searched all over the forums and keep finding the steps i followed and then also found unlock steps(something i do not want to do)
all i want is root. please keep that in mind.

I used this method on my OTA gingerbread.
At first, it gave me errors and pretty much wouldn't work past command line, but in reality, Superuser was installed and I was able to launch it.
Do you have Superuser in your app drawer?
yes i do have super user. and i am able to launch it. but it does not unlock anything.
i got no errors. i did everything correctly and still i dont have root access. maybe im missing something?? i try to run Titanium backup and it said no root access. said the same thing with Root explorer.
superuser runs... but it doesnt have anything unlocked. i try to update superuser and it wont let me.

hmm, you can try going to manage apps and clearing superuser's data, and then maybe attempt the process again.
I had to clear data to get superuser to do anything at all when I rooted.
i read that before i attempted it the third time. i cleared data then completed the steps and still... my superuser runs but apparently i do not have root access.
superuser does not ask if i want to allow for root access for any programs like TB or Root Explorer as it should.

and i meant that i had read about that before attempting the entire process for the third time. i read on another post that someone had it installed already and had to clear the data so... i did that before my third attempt.
still no root!
