Battery never charges to full - Nexus S General

Ever since I got my NS4G my battery will never charge to 100%, and the maximum it displays 97%.
Is this a matter of rooting and re-calibrating the battery?
The phone is completely stock, and I've had since the beginning of the month.

thats normal.
only way to get it to 100% is switching on wifi hotspot while charging.

Working as intended.

Wifi calling taking 40% of power, as per power tutor

Ok guys,
Since the OTA my wifi calling feature is taking 40% of the power. The wifi which i use has a diiferent reading so can not be mixed up. Now wifi calling is clearly disabled and can not forcestop it.
Any suggestions or solutions and is any one else in the same boat.
Also is there another app that breaks down like power tutor does so i can cross check. Thanks

I disabled mine using Titanium Backup; it allows you to "freeze" applications. I have an awaiting question in the Q&A forum (where this thread should really be as well) asking about the battery usage and coding of the app.
I am not sure where that section is under G2, but if you can post the answer here when u get it. I will try Titanium back up, i have a temp root so hopefully it'll work. Thanks

Ok i got the Titanium pro and froze the wifi calling but it still is running even though titanium says its frozen. The power tutor still says its consuming 33% and in systems ruuning apps u can still see it. Can you check if yours stoped for sure using titanium?

I haven't seen this problem. I've been using wifi calling all week while I've been out of the country and my phone has lasted all day. I'm probably only on the phone for somewhere between 60 and 90 minutes of the day, but I'm on the phone taking pictures, uploading them, texting, and just general G2 type stuff. I'm getting awesome battery life and haven't seen it go in the red once all week. I'm using JuiceDefender and that seems to be working great at managing the battery life.
Using JuicePlotter I can see that I took it off the charger at 6:00 am the other day when I left the office, and at 4:30 PM my battery was only at 23% when I put it on the charger in my hotel. I walked around town doing some shopping instead of going to bed (big mistake). I'm just not seeing WiFi calling being much of a battery drain. In fact, according to this graph, my battery went down quicker when it wasn't connected to wifi than when it was. Probably because the phone was searching for a signal and not getting one out here in Manila at all.
I took it off the charger last night at 8:00 pm and as of 4:10 am I am at 66% of my battery left. I've spent 2 hours on wifi calling and was looking for a couple apps in the market for probably half an hour or so as well as a half hour of Angry Birds play in the car on the way to the office.

I will try juice defender, i think the problem might be in power tutor as well as when i uncheck the lcd part of the total, wifi calling seem to drop of the list which should not be as wifi calling can not be using lcd time, so i will try and reconfirm using a different app. But in power tutor it clearly logs as using 40% some time more of the total power. But thanks for that info.

I used the method detailed here to permanently disable many of the apps that came with my G2.
This method is a bit in depth and requires either an ADB connection or the terminal emulator app, but it works well.
Good luck, I hope this helped.

Ah that's right, I forgot about that; especially odd because I had done that myself before the perma-root. Yeah, OP, follow those instructions and you should be able to actually disable the Wifi Calling app.

Nexus S kills the batteries

Hello
My friend have a Nexus S (9020A) the problem is when the battery dies it's impossible to charge the phone, it won't turn on! I have tried with a lot of batteries now and it kills all of them! it works like normal when you don't let the battery die completely but it should not do this anyway, what is wrong?
I think I know what your talking about.
The phone consumes more power than it receives when its using data. Do if your at 5% and charging, but also using the internet. You will last for mere minutes.
Best thing to do is to simply let it charge and not touch it when its doing so. You can still hotspot, text talk. But streaming music, data apps (like tapatalk or skype) and web browser WILL KILL YOUR BATTERY WHILE YOU CHARGE.
But if your saying it won't charge. Sorry. No idea

What? That's just nonsense.
If you turn the phone off and then try to charge it with the battery in, you're not able to charge it?

no, the phone kills the batteries, I would have test the batteries on other phone if I had, but atm I just have the Nexus S, it won't let me charge the batteries when they are dead.. if there is 1% left I can charge but when it dies it's dead forever... there must be something wrong with the phone, right?

don't work.. when battery have some % left the phone works like normal... but if I let it die, then it's dead.. I can't even turn on the phone, it's like there is no battery inserted.
The phone should shut down automatically when the voltage reaches a certain threshold. Is the phone not doing this? These batteries are not meant to drop below a certain voltage and doing so could damage them.

This is so insanely inaccurate. Using the hotspot is one of the most battery intensive operations the phone can carry out. Streaming music, Skype, and browsing don't even hold a candle to it. The only thing that comes close would be navigation (and that can be even worse sometimes), followed by talking on the phone by a pretty decent, but not massive margin. It also depends on the charger. Where do you get your information?

if the phone is doing the same with all type of ROMS, then it may be hardware related issue.
I have been running various Roms since the start but never faced this issue. A lot of times battery has drained fully. With some of the new roms that are there my phone lasts more than a day with Data on Roaming full time.
I know most phone batteries will not be chargeable if you deplete them completely. Usually this happens by throwin it in the drawer and not using it for a long time but ive never heard of it happening just by using the phone. Id say its definitely a hardware issue

I agree with kilometers4. Better battery stats & cpu spy work well. I also suggest you download a battery calibration app. When I updated to Jelly Bean on my S3, the battery life sucked. But once I calibrated for a few cycles, it's great now. Same for my Nexus 7.

I'm gonna hafta concur with this guy. However, I was having the same problem.
I used my keyboard to type into the search bar "bad battery life",

When my nexus was brand new, i also had a few battery issues. But got it fixed after fully discharging the device a few times. Make sure it charges to 100% inbetween.

Course if I do something more demanding like playing games I get less runtime on the battery.

With every electronic gadget using Lithium-ion batteries nowadays, it doesn't really matter how/when you charge it.
Some would argue to make sure to allow a full discharge from a full charge from a battery calibration point of view, so the battery meter is more accurate. It wouldn't affect the health of the battery itself either way.
Things like memory effect doesn't apply to lithium-ion. How often you charge it and how much you charge it (full or partial charge etc.) doesn't affect it much either. The only 2 things that can potential kill a lithium-ion is high temperature and letting it discharge far too low to the point that it cannot be charged up again. Note that all electronic devices will power off way before it even reaches this threshold.

INSANE BATTERY DRAIN while powered off!

So I powered off my Nexus 7 last week before I went on vacation and found it completely dead when I tried to turn it on a week later - it would not even turn on. After charging for about 10 minutes it booted up but the battery was at 1% and charging. Initially i though I forgot to turn it off, but then again I was pretty sure I did. Once it charged up I powered it off completely ("Power Off" option after holding down the power button) and left it till 5PM the next day. Once it booted up it showed that I had only 44% charge, that's down from 100% just last night! WTF? It lasts me 3-4 days if it sleeps but looses 66% charge when powered off!? Anybody in the same boat?
