[Q] Will this work correctly? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When gingerbread is released officially, I assume there will be a new PD15IMG.zip.
If I ever catch the sensation 4g for free on-contract my mom is gonna get it and take my mytouch 4g as her phone. At this point I will want to return it to stock, however I've heard that doing this can be tough when you have a radio that is not stock (I have the first GB leak's radio) In addition I have the engineering hboot.
Apperantly using the PD15IMG that we have now can really mess up your phone if you have those things. When the new one comes out (Apparently within a couple of days) will I be able to use this successfully as all of the pieces (Hboot, radio) will be higher numbers/versions than what I currently have so I can return it to gingerbread stock?

Did you root using the psneuter and gfree method?
If so, you can restore to stock using the part7backup files made during the rooting process. This thread tells you how to do it. The stock PD15IMG.zip contains the stock ROM's radio, so it'll overwrite the GB leak's radio.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863899

I used the visionary/root.sh method.

Using the pd15img wont screw your phone up. You can use the any one of them and your phone will get updated to gingerbread

I was just reading a post about using PD15IMG incorrectly screwing things up. After re-reading a couple times I now understand what the issue was.
apperantly having a different radio and using PD15IMG can mess things up because:
-engineering hboot allows radio changing manually
-stock S-ON does not.
-PD15IMG replaces hboot before radio
-once hboot is set to stock, non-stock radio cannot be changed as it is an outdated version than what I have.
I guess my main question is:
- Will reverting to the stock hboot using PD15IMG cause issues? (Are you even IN hboot technically when using PD15IMG?)

Nope wrong, the only way flashing the pd15img will screw up your phone is if you have a corrupt partition, even then all its says is pu failed and aborts the update. There is 5 different files that get flashed during the update. It does not matter if you have a different radio. That's the point of the file. When you get an update from T-Mobile that's basically what they send to your phone.
If your not gonna listen to the answer that already answered your question why even ask???

How to tell if you have s-off, h-boot, and unlocked sim card.

Well my phone was rooted my a friend's friend a while ago. Now I want to flash a new radio because my gps is acting up, but want to make sure that I have everything set-up correctly before I do so.What settings have to be "unlocked" or so in order to achieve this?
Any tips and things I should watch out for regarding flashing a new radio would be greatly appreciated.
hey the way you would make sure your s-off and all the things you need before bfore starting is to check h-boot. to do this turn your phone and hold the voume down and power button at the same time you will get to a white screen with androids on skateboards. there at the top you see your h-boot at the top it should say these 2 things 1 is h-boot s-off of course and the other important one is 2 your phone has a enganiering h-boot that lets your phone be able to flash different roms from different carrier brand roms like the desire rom on a g2 and vise versa and also radios. and things to watch out for is make sure your dowloadig a safe file before flashing and to make sure you download a backup of the radio that you have just in case something ffffffsss up if you know what i mean. just put the file on the root of your sdcard and get into your h-boot menu and the h-boot will pick up the file and you just press up to select upgrade and you should be fine. to check which or if it stuck you can check this in your menu ,settings , about phone and under your software info youll see baseband version and it should show the new radio you flashed. any questions feel free to ask my friend ok ;-)
As stated above, check your bootloader. If the first line ends in S-ON, you will need to obtain S-OFF using one of the guides (I suggest looking at the Wiki). If the first line ends in SHIP S-OFF, you have S-OFF through gfree. If the first line ends in ENG S-OFF, you have S-OFF through the engineering bootloader (and maybe gfree as well---you can check out the Wiki for an app on how verify whether or not gfree was used).
Regardless, if you have S-OFF through either method, you can flash a new radio. Unlike what the post above stated, you do not need the engineering HBOOT to flash a radio (or custom ROMs for that matter). The engineering HBOOT simply allows you to use fastboot to flash partitions on your phone while in the bootloader. If you do not have the engineering HBOOT, you can flash the radio through the PC10IMG.zip update method (there is a thread in the dev section).
Thanks for giving the full info i knew i forgot i did use gfree and it unlocked and all the good stuff i thought that included for you to be able to flash radios and any branded roms thanks

Thanks guys! Yes, I checked and I have s-off. Great!
When I get on my pc I'll "thank" both your useful posts.
So which is the safest route to take to flash a radio? Through h-boot?
EDIT: Already flashed the radio, thanks guys.

Download the radio zip bag.put it into SDcard root.rename it to "PC10IMG.zip".then goto h-boot and g2 will auto flash it.
No problem I just had to flash back to the stock radio wasn't getting the best service with the new updated desire radio glad everything was figured out

Today I accidently turned it on (the thing in the bootloader) and now I can't turn it off no matter what so I can do a revert to stock .img, I used the PDI15.img or w.e that would revert back to stock forgetting that I had the newest radio and now I can't revert to stock or turn S-OFF. Please help

Can you still boot? Like into your rom? If so just try rooting using visionary and using a root explorer to push the gfree files to data/local/ then just follow the normal rooting procedure

dude! I noticed this also this morning. I am rooted(using setcpu and root explorer just fine) but in hboot it says s=on. I was also wanting to flash the stock .img and start fresh. thought I was the only one having this problem. tried everything you did and got the same results.
What ROM are you on? AFAIK, gfree, requires the stock kernel to do what it does. How on earth did you turn S-ON? That sort of thing shouldn't just happen out of nowhere.
How is the progress on fixing your phone?

currently on Evil D mTGB v1.0, Faux 0.0.7 CFS lv leak kernel. everything works fine, no FC's or anything. just having the same issues as XxKOLOHExX. I really have no idea how it turned on by itself, I dont remember doing anything out of the ordinary
I was trying to get back to stock from the rom i was on. (MIUI) and when I used the stock .img though the bootloader it went all good till it rebooted, then it said failed because the file was old and now I am stuck with s-on and I don't know how to turn it off
How did you get to the stock bootloader? Did you have eng bootloader at one point? What meth of root did you use? Alot of info missing.
Now download the stock radio.img and push it via adb or just download the PD15IMG.zip (radio only not rom included). Once this is done you can revert back to stock rom/radio using standard PD15IMG.zip (radio+rom). Now depending on the type of root you used it would depend if you still have radio flag on/off even if your reverted back to stock bootloader.
PS: You can get PD15IMG.zip (stock radio) from master radio thread and PD15IMG.zip (stock radio/rom) by doing search.

It flashed the bootloader when I flashed the PD15IMG.zip, it just stop when I did the whole procedure. Nope never flashed an Engineer Bootloader. I used theunlockr.com sites method
I tried that, it uziped then tried to flash the radio then just went back to the original menu for the bootloader
If you used the VISIONary+ (TempROOT) and root.sh (PermROOT) meth then you already had engineering hboot (0.85.2007) pushed though terminal on "/dev/block/mmcblk0p18". Now you did something in between is what I would like to know.
As you flashed new radio (26.09.04.26_M) which I am clear. But what I like to know is how did you end up with default hboot (0.86.0000)? If you had S=OFF you didn't lose it via flashing new radio. Which PD15IMG.zip did you install? Now when you say PD15IMG.zip what do you mean? It can be anything as its default mt4g system based image. Stock PD15IMG.zip = (Sense 2.2.1 Rom/Radio 26.03.02.26_M). Did you install leaked PD15IMG.zip from Panache? or GB2.3.3S?
Are you not 1 of the Royal dev's? who try to take over Silence's IG if I recall. I am just assuming here but this is why you do "NOT" dump system image via hboot. What you should have done was do complete total system wipe (format /data; /system) and then flash new edify based CWMR flashable rom.

Yeah I know that, I Was trying to go back to stock everything using the unrooting method(PD15IMG.zip). Using this file I was able to get through the first step and it rebooted, then it went back to bootloader and now it won't take the PD15IMG.zip saying that it is an older file. Yes I am one of the devs, That's why before posting I tried everything I could think of, gfree, old unrooting methods, etc. I didn't use a dump lol I'm not that noobish haha
Thats where you got owned as the PD15IMG.zip (stock rom/radio) just reverted back to hboot (0.86.0000) from eng hboot (0.85.2007). While you attempted to go further you couldn't do to security turning on (S=ON). Now this normally wouldn't be problem but since you had newer radio (26.09.04.26_M) it wouldn't replace it with old.
All you had to do was follow few simple meths which you should have learned it over the years. Go back same way you came by first reverting back to original radio image and then after doing complete system wipe you should have reverted back to original factory based via stock pd15img.
Ill post back with solution soon let me think this out. I don't want to brick your phone trying to manually push the radio.img nor the eng_hboot.img. As if you try to push radio now would fail on write and give you hard brick. Since S=ON and if you try to push eng_hboot.img who knows what will happen as no R/W access on mmcblk could could also fail thus giving bad flash which can also brick the device. Ill see what happens and post back at... you folks just made more extra work for me.

lol sorry for the extra work, just dont wanna have the chance of bricking my phone but like XxKOLOHExX I wanted to revert back to stock from mTGB using the stock PD15IMG_Glacier_TMOUS_1.17.531.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155771_signed. everything he described is happening to me also, step by step. so what youre saying is that we should try flashing the stock radio first, wipe the whole phone(including sdcard?), then flash the stock PD15IMG? Ill give it a shot real quick, thanks
*edit* hboot wont even let me flash the stock radio, itll say checking but wont actually let me update it
Well clarknick27 the problem here is that root.sh to gain PermROOT via VISIONary+ just push the 0.85.2007 eng hboot and giving temporary S=OFF, the true security flag as we know it is controlled in the radio. So when you try to revert back using stock PD15IMG (rom/radio) it reverted back to the stock 0.86.0000 hboot thus turning on the security flag on.
What you all should have done is reverted back same way you installed it. Which would have been first use PD15IMG.zip (stock radio) and then use stock PD15IMG.zip (radio/rom). I still need some sleep lol I just wokeup after sleeping 2hours.
The MT4G I tested on I rooted it via VISIONary+ and then flashed GB Leak rom not the PD15IMG.zip (leak radio/rom) which contained the 0.89.0005 hboot. So after flashing stock radio PD15IMG.zip (radio 26.03.02.26_M) I was able to flash stock PD15IMG.zip (rom/radio) without problem. Which is same as I suspected even after S=ON due to same version radio no problem. If I had newer radio after that point it would be locked out. Let me go to sleep and wakeup and ill see what happens from there. As I have clean MT4G ill have to reroot it first.
BTW XxKOLOHExX and clarknick27 just in case my account gets disabled. Do the following and report it here and ill see from there.
1) Which working rom you currently have installed on the device?
I know trying to reroot using gfree may give you similar result as my test: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1066966 < not important but unable to root on newer rom.
2) What happens when you try to reroot it using VISIONary+ (TempROOT) and root.sh (PermROOT)?
Did you try it? If so what is the end result? so post back. Ill check and go from there.

1) currently running Evil D's mTGB v1.0 rom with Faux's 0.0.7 CFS LV leak kernel. tried rooting with visionary and terminal first, no success. I then tried out the gfree method, and got "Attempting to power cycle eMMC...failed. Module failed to load: No such file or directory."
2) I installed Visionary using Astro file manager, then run Visionary. I click on "temproot now" and it starts, but then the screen goes black and doesnt do anything. I have let it sit on the black screen for well over 15mins before with no luck. I can click on "attempt to permroot" and it will ask for permissions and reboot and everything. my s=on but I still have root access and 0.86.000 bootloader. this is what I see using terminal before rebooting to see if s=off
Did you do the Radio S=OFF using gfree? If so that would explain why you still have root as security is disabled on the device totally. If thats the case then just push the eng bootloader manually via adb or though terminal and reboot. For now XxKOLOHExX is locked lets see what I find ill post back for him.

PSA Radio 26.09.04.26_M

I was reverting back to stock from CM7 with Radio 26.09.04.26_M I used unroot.sh to turn s-on then went into bootloader to run PD15img tried to run and said it was an older version. I tried in vain to gfree to and root.sh to s-off to no avail. Finally found out the the latest radio patches the exploit. If you run into this problem follow this thread below, You have to use a hex editor and you need to delete a byte to change the 1800 to 531.
2.09.1800.1
11. Change that to:
1.14.531.1

hey glad you fixed it! a lot of people have been doing this lately...theyre on the updated radio and try to flash the stock PD15IMG to go back to stock, but doing so will give you a few problems with S turning on and going back to the stock hboot and give you the "main version is older" error. next time, revert back to the stock radio and then flash the stock PD15IMG
Yeah I forgot I was on the new radio. With s-on I couldn't flash just the stock radio. I posted this for those who make the same mistake this is the only fix.

What does this mean exactly?

PermROOT said:
Hello Phateless do you remember me? lol I am always on diff name so ya.
But yes PD15IMG.zip is not the golden solution to everything. It all depends on how you originally rooted your MT4G as VISIONary+ (TempROOT) and root.sh (PermROOT). In that case your S=OFF security off flag is dependent on the eng hboot which was pushed to /dev/block/mmcblk0p18 during PermROOT.
Now since its not true security off once you have newer radio. You try to run PD15IMG.zip (Sense 2.2.1 Rom/Radio 26.03.02.26_M) after the first update which is stock hboot you would be locked due to it changing S=ON thus on next step it will fail due to the image being older than originally on which is currently flashed which would be the radio. In this case your in a point where you shouldn't be as you can be locked out and no way to reroot. which I am working on finding. This also goes for gfree radio s=off.
If you do want to go back download PD15IMG.zip (stock radio 26.03.02.26_M) and then flash it once that is done then you can revert back to stock rom/radio using standard PD15IMG.zip (Sense 2.2.1 Rom/Radio 26.03.02.26_M). Keep in mind unless the new PD15IMG.zip is out you can't revert it back if your locked out due to source being outdated than current image.

Found this post here in THE Bible. Trying to understand exactly what it means.
What is he saying here?
Can someone put this into noob terms please?
THANK!!!
I am not sure how to explain it furthermore as when I posted that it was clear to everyone, but ill try to simplify.
The original stock rom that came with our device was 2.2.1S and later we had GB2.3.X port and we mostly switched. Then came the radio rom which I hope I don't need to explain what the image does. So the standard stock radio that came with our device was 26.03.02.26_M. So later on as Panache came out we had leak to other radios which user could flash, thus changing it from stock radio to leaked radio. I hope it make sense up to there.
Now keep in mind we have 2 type of root meth as one is via TempROOT/PermROOT as I explained before via VISIONary+ which just push the eng_hboot and gives the illusion of S=OFF but the true security is not off as that is only done if you do the other rooting meth which is PermaROOT which disables the radio security completely.
Now the problem few users faced was when they flashed the leaked radio and they wanted to revert back to stock rom/radio via PD15IMG.zip for our MT4G (IDD15000). The installation would fail only for folks who had root via PermROOT as they never had true S=OFF thus once the eng_hboot is replaced with stock bootloader the security is disabled thus user can't complete the second part of the process which would be flashing the radio. So only solution was that they first revert back to stock radio or wait for newer radio because the source of the image inside PD15IMG.zip was older than the radio.img that was already flashed inside user's MT4G.
I hope it explains if not well IDK how to explain any better man :O
So if I'm understanding this all correctly, how I find out if this will affect me?
Where and what information should I provide you in order to find out if this will happen to me as well.
I'm getting ready to send my phone in for an exchange and was looking to flash PD15IMG.zip before doing this when I came across this post.
I rooted my phone with Visionary R14 and Terminal Emulator.
What other info do you need? Please let me know. Thank you.
At this point it wont affect you as thats obsolete due to TMoUS releasing newer stock rom/radio for our MT4G few months ago as Panache radio leak is older than the current stock rom/radio. As its GB2.3.4S which comes with the newest radio which is newer than any radio you flash. So the source of the PD15IMG.zip if you have the newest one then it will always be newer or equal to the radio.img already in device and it means in simple term it will flash the 2nd part. I hope it make sense as it should not affect anyone now. Even if it does all they have to do is run the current new PD15IMG.zip and it will fix the issue which user faced few months back.

If this is all about going back for an exchange, i recently did just this. Please see my post on the topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241740
If all you did was the temproot/permaroot method via visionary+, and not the gfree method (gfree is actual s=off), then I believe some of the steps may be different. Specifically, you may be able to skip the whole bit about turning s=on again.
So which is it?
So rooted via Visionary R14 and being on Virtuous Unity (newest update)
I should be able to flash PD15IMG.zip from this link here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863899
and have no problems yeah?
Sorry for all the questions. But yeah I'm only half to 75% following what you're saying.
I'm not advanced yet. =(
Thanks for the help again though.
Keep in mind PD15IMG.zip is the default system file for our device which is checked on the bootloader as our device ID is PD15000 thus getting the PD15IMG name. So PD15IMG.zip can be multi files as we have 2 of them 1 is 2.2.1 and newest one is 2.3.4 just look in the dev section you will find the newest PD15IMG.

[Q] Return to stock and keep S=off?

Back when the very first version of Creamed Glacier came out, I did the whole root, s=off, and CWM think to flash it. Of course at the time it wasn't terrible stable, so I found a PD15IMG.zip down load and just reflashed stock with out manually disabling s=off or anything.
Does that mean that I still have s=off and I can just install CWM5 via the fastboot method to flash newer and more stable ICS ROMs without having to go through the process I did the first time? Reading around this forum, I'm leaning towards my answer is yes, but I want to make sure before breaking my phone or something.
Yes you do have S-OFF I believe. Boot into your bootloader and look at tbr very top and you'll see it say S-OFF or S-ON. Now if its off, I think you can flash CWM. But not sure...so root again without S-OFF. Sorry, this isn't my area of expertise.
Sent from my Sense 4.0 Glacier using XDA Premium.
It probably says that you are s=off but you will still want to reroot the phone if you returned to stock with pd15img. also make sure to return to froyo radio and check your android version #. If it is gingerbread then downgrade before attempting to reroot or it probably wont work and may possibly brick the phone.
