Extract the update.zip and place it in your External SD Card and then use Acer Recovery and ClockworkMod, first you must be rooted then enter Acer recovery and install the ClockworkMod Recovery rev1.3.4 by thor2002ro and then enter recovery via reboot either by just pressing the 'Reboot into Recovery' on the right or off your machine and hold power button and Vol - together until some texts start popping up in the left upper corner.
After that you navigate with the volume and power buttons power button is OK/Enter and volume is up or down.
Scroll down to and select 'install zip from sdcard' then select 'choose zip from sdcard' and once you enter there you should see the update.zip that you put in you External SD Card and you select and then select it again and Voila! Done! Reboot!
Hope it helped!
Cheers!

Confirm this is a full ROM. We can use this ROM as a base ROM from now on when we want to come back to stock.
This ROM can be flashed regardless of stock recovery or CWM, rooted or not, whatever the current ROM is

was looking for full .40, really helping, thank you for the info

I got tired of waiting for emea_gen3 ROM so I wiped my tablet and installed this one. Works like a peach and now I'm actually pretty happy with my tablet. Thank you a lot for sharing with us!

Thx, i also flashed an uploaded it yesterday, here are some more mirrors:

Worked in about 2 seconds....you are a saint!

Sirs,
I used to have a 1.139.04 version of ROM, using one sir Vache's links, I was able to manually update to a 1.141.04. Can I flash this new ROM without going back to 1.139.04? If no, how do I go back to 1.139.04?
I have been trying to upgrade to Android 3.1 and tried all ROMs posted here (i.e. Acer_A500_4.010.38_COM_GEN1, 1.016.01 to Acer_A500_1.016.01_1.139.04_COM_GEN1, and, SD_Acer_A500_4.010.22_COM_GEN1 to Acer_A500_4.010.22_4.010.38_COM_GEN1) and none seem to work. When I start to flash, I always get an Android character carrying and exclamation mark sign which I presume to mean that the ROM cannot be flashed. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Aris

Yes. Check post 7 for more info

Thi one is available, at long last, to me as an OTA update.
Not sure I want to at the moment though.. I'll wait and see how many bugs people complain about.

Thanks Green, and Xdachris for the mirror! Clickity click!

What benefits-improvements with this Update
have been seen?

Appears as though hardware decode in mp4 h264 is now working.

[Q] Preparing for Gingerbread with custom ROM installed

Hey guys,
I am running a custom ROM at the moment (MIUI), but I'd like to receive the Gingerbread OTA update when it is available. What do I need to do in order to receive this notification? Do I need to restore stock recovery? Go back to Froyo, etc?
Any help would be appreciated.. thanks!
Revert completely to stock FRG83D
I had heard something about the update failing without stock recovery.. any merit to this?
Or you could wait for someone to root 2.3...but that would still involve you wiping MIUI and such, but youll keep your root if that matters to you
Easier option is get it from this forum...as soon as it is out someone should have repacked it so that it can be flashed with a custom recovery..
Other option is to restore ur phone to stock rom and recovery.

If I don't want to revert to stock and will wait till someone post the url how do I get the update.zip and make it so I can flash it on a custom recovery?
Is there an easy way to revert back to stock from cyanogenmod 6.1? I would like to be able to update to gingerbread OTA.
Thanks guys
A good start would be posting in the correct form and not ignoring the caps lock announcement at the top DO *NOT* POST QUESTIONS IN THIS FORUM.

If you don't already have it, get ROM Manager from the Market. Install that and install the Recovery it suggests. I think it suggests Clockwork, that's what I have.
Then, when someone posts the update.zip file, put it on your SD card somewhere. Open Rom Manager and tell it to do an update, point it to the update.zip file you just put there and wait for it to reboot a couple times. Enjoy. It's pretty easy now.
I'd wait for a rooted version of 2.3 though. That way you can keep Rom Manager and then switch to whatever Rom you want.

You wont find a stock FRG83D, you'll need to use an earlier version (FRG33) and OTA it up to date.

I posted it over on the other thread just for those following it, gave credit to you.
This one patches everything in the /system/app folder, the /system/frame-works, and a few random files in other sub-dirs.
It also replaces/patches the recovery again and includes the script to re-flash it every time you change it.
Here's the patch script
Just rooted with new update. so everything is fine. i'll get back to the nightlies then.
cheers
Awesome
Thanks deeren.
Updated through stock recovery and everything’s fine, still rooted. I will have to re-flash clockwork again, but that was expected.
Sorry for the noob question, but how do I apply this update? I tried downloading through the browser and the download fails. \do \i donload with PC and put on device manually?
Can you just put this on your SD card and go to Rom Manager and select Install ROM from SD card while you point it to this zip file?
Also does it disable your root, and then you have to root again?

Yes, you will have to root again (at least I had to). I used stock recovery because I think that way is safer, i don’t know about Rom Manager.

[Recovery] ClockworkMod Recovery flashable from bootloader

Someone asked if it was possible to flash ClockworkMod Recovery through hboot instead of using RomManager. The answer...yes.
Primary reason something of this nature may be useful, as I see it, is if your recovery is damaged, your ROM is bootlooping, and you don't want to use or have access to ADB.
In that case you would:
remove your sdcard from your phone
place the zip on the root of the sdcard (using an adapter or another phone) and make sure it is named the appropriate "PG05IMG.zip"
place the sdcard back in your phone
boot to bootloader as if you're installing a radio (power+VolDown from powerOff). It will then find the zip, recognize it as recovery and ask if you want to install (if it does not prompt then select "Bootloader" from hboot).
Follow the instructions and after it finishes flashing pull your battery to power off (since the ROM will be bootlooping and hboot will constantly find the zip)
Now remove the sdcard and delete the zip (via adapter or other phone) like you did to put it on the sdcard, then place the card back in the phone.
Boot back to bootloader (Pwr+VolDwn)
Select "Recovery" and use CWR to wipe data/cache, flash a new rom, restore, or whatever you wish.
Obviously not the only reason since some people prefer this method over RM but clearly in that case the whole sdcard switching mess is unnecessary. Just do steps 2 and 4 and reboot when prompted like you do with radios.
Remember to remove any PGO5IMG.zip from your sdcard when done.
If this isn't useful to you, so be it. I just figured I'd throw this out there. Maybe it will help someone.
I will keep this updated as new versions come out for those few that find it useful.
**Credit to Koush and jcase**
All I did was decide to throw them in a zip that was useful in some situations for panicking users.

Someone asked if it was possible to flash ClockworkMod Recovery through hboot instead of using RomManager. I didn't see the need at the time but I took a few minutes to throw together a test. Let me know if it works for you or not.
I tested flashing the stock recovery from the custom firmware, confirmed it had replaced CWR, then used this to install CWR back.
Primary reason something of this nature may be useful, as I see it, is if your recovery is damaged, your ROM is bootlooping, and you don't want or have access to ADB. In that case you would just pull your sdcard, place this on the root (via adapter or someone else's phone) named the appropriate "PG05IMG.zip", place back in your phone, and boot to bootloader as if you're installing a radio. It should then find it, recognize it as recovery and ask if you want to install.
Additionally, seems if it is as easy as swapping the .img out which is all I did, then the original custom upgrade firmware flashed in the last step of the root guide could include this. Then you'd have CWR immediately after finishing the permaroot guide.
If this doesn't work and doesn't have any use for anyone, so be it. I just figured I'd throw this out there.
BTW, this is ClockworkMod Recovery 3.1.0.2 (latest for mecha at time of posting).
Note1: Only tested on Engr hboot with S-off obviously
Note2: I don't have access to an MD5 generator where I am so people that test this should have a booting ROM with RomManager or at least know how to manually reflash ClockworkMod Recovery if it doesn't work.

Here is your package with the 4.0.0.5 Modded Recovery ready to flash in HBOOT.
JCASE created the Recovery, so him the love for it. I all I have done is use it. LOL It gives you the option under "advanced" to "reboot bootloader". So you can install the ROM, then simply boot into boot loader to flash the radio.

In your case it would probably be easier to just use flash_image from terminal on the phone (i.e. flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img) assuming your current rom has it (if not just search and download it) or you have RM installed. The main case I saw this being useful was if you didn't have or want to use ADB and your ROM was unusable (e.g. bootlooping). I may add Jcase's modded recovery to the OP as well since it seems useful/wanted by some.
I thought the one JCase made had issues with nandroid backups installing? I could be wrong but for some reason I remember that issue for several people.

actually, thats allready how it is ive rooted mr2 twice and the mr1 upgrade allready has clockwork installed.
it is that easy,i have done this, and i have also removed the hboot and stock recovery from PG05IMG RUUs so that i could flash without destroying recovery and my eng bootloader.
thanks for putting it together and offering the download, it has many uses, as people will see. the biggest one allready having been mentioned,if something screws up your OS and recovery, its easy to get it back.

Figures. It was too simple of a concept not to have been done but I didn't see anyone that had done it in Tbolt. I guess I can pull that part out of the OP since you say it's already in there.

id be willing to bet most people dont know, lol.they prolly just blindly downloAd rom manager and flash it. i checked to see if it was there, after seeing this as one of the last statements in the root post: Reboot your phone. its one of the things i really love about htc. i got used to installing recoverys, splash screens, etc. on my incredible, then started experimenting with img files on my eris, and discovered it was quite possible to simply move the images around kinda neat if you want to try a leaked ruu but dont want to wait for someone to post a CWM flashable roms. just pull out the hboot and stock recovery and flash away
it was quite common to manipulate things in hboot on the inc,but never mentioned in the eris forum, where most of the gurus frowned upon the s-off bootloader.kind of a shame... more bricked eris's prolly could have been revived after the clockwork fiasco if s-off was part of the common root process.
thanx for the android info info. when i make them up,it doesnt seem to matter which one i use. i dont think it even checks the text inside,i think you just need a text document titled "android info" lol

[Q] Lost CWM & Root Access in HC 3.2 ROM. Need Help

Hi,
I updated my A500 from 3.1 stock to Taboonay 2.0 HC 3.2. For some reason I decided to revert back to HC 3.1 Stock but in trying to do so I messed up and lost both CWM and Root Access. Now I can still boot into Taboonay 2.0 HC3.2 but I cannot access CWM and I cannot flash any other ROM as I do not have Root Access. Also due to lack of Root Access I cannot install CWM.
Can someone please help me regain control of my device??? Please!!!

Now I can still boot into Taboonay 2.0 HC3.2 but I cannot access CWM and I cannot flash any other ROM as I do not have Root Access. Also due to lack of Root Access I cannot install CWM.
Can someone please help me regain control of my device??? Please!!!

Acer recovery needs "root" access....superuser can be seen in the list of apps but it is denying permission to all apps despite setting "allow" to all apps on default!
What to do?
Tried iconia root....."denied root access"
Tried Acer recovery....."needs root access"
CMW can't be booted into as somehow it is not there!
Tried factory data reset......no change in problem!
??
Help/suggestions needed!
Erica's Cure Worked for me!!!
Ok after taking advice from Erica, I downloaded the official full ROM package from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159443 and extracted the update.zip from it and placed it in the root of my external sd card. Switched off the A500 and rebooted it pressing Vol (down) & Power button till white text appeared in top left corner of the screen. A500 then started updating and successfully completed the full ROM install. On completing A500 automatically rebooted and all is good now. I am now on Stock A500 ROM HC3.1. I have not rooted or installed Acer Recovery app yet. I am going to wait for the official HC 3.2 from Acer Malaysia which I think is due on 10th September.
Thank you everyone on this amazing forum for helping fix this issue for me. Hope this solution also works for others having similar issues.
Additional steps to the last procedure
Ok... Last procedure though restored my A500 to Stock HC3.1 but was not allowing the OTA updates. So I copied update.zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113878. (you must ensure that you download the ROM that is specifically for your device region... mine is Thailand).
I repeated the same procedure as I did before (see last post). After installation completed, and device rebooted. I checked for new updates (from settings menu / About Tablet / Updates). Voila!!! new updates were detected and are downloading now. These are not HC3.2 updates but HC3.1 update patches.
Cheers!

5.5.0.4 from Koush has a known problem
Follow this:

There are many ways to get out of this situation. Get all the tools (adb, ROM zip files, etc.). Read posts in the thread. Ask for help there.
Good luck.
Put your transformer in APX mode by hold the power button & volume up.. If it turns back on do it again, make sure you have you sync cable plugged in and drivers installed. Now that your in APX download this stock rom then root it with viper (option 1 in viper)
Stock rom

Viper root works on transformer & prime for root and unroot!!!

Yes there's a fix in there towards the bottom of the first post.
If you want to flash another recovery, turn your device on into recovery, connect it to your computer and use adb to push the file to your internal storage.
It should be something like "adb push filename.zip /data/media" then you can use the borked recovery you're on to flash the one you pushed.

Yes it will what are you talking about? If he wants his tablet to work again and if he's not worried about the data on it (since he can't access it anyway) then this will work... Overkill lol , call it what you want it will work and it's simple!

His problem is with it getting stuck in recovery, which is a known issue with Koush's 5.5.0.4, simple fix with adb. No need to reflash the whole rom.

Well if he's not good with a computer, my method is the easiest especially if he doesn't have it figured out by now...
Thanks for the help everyone--Ended up using NVflash to load a rom called prime 1.6. 3:30 a.m. and I am as good as new. No ICS but at least it is stable
Good to see you got it back working...
