I have clockworkmod 5.... recovery on stock 2.2, rooted obviously. Can I make nandroid backup with clockworkmod, flash to Amon RA, wipe my data completely (if needed for some reason), then restore my nandroid using the newly flashed Amon RA recovery? My main question is, can a nandroid backup made with one recovery be restored with a different recovery? I'm asking this because if I change my hboot version, the same nandroid can't be restored any longer, even with the same recovery that was used to make it. Can Amon RA "read" clockworkmod nandroid backups?
Thanks
simply put NO.
what exactly is clockworkmod 5? & why do all that crap?
if you want amon_ra, flash it. although there isn't any benefit to using it.
flash_image recovery amon_ra_filename.img
that command can be done via adb or terminal emulator on the device.
Will that wipe my current Rom/data if I flash recovery through adb?
Thanks again

It can read the backups from cwm if put in the folder that amon read backups from. Why do that when you can nandroid from amon. Amon in my personal opinion is better than cwm anyway.

It's a little tricky but you can use CWM Nandroids in Amon_RA.
Flash Amon_RA and then make a nandroid. There will be a folder on your SD Card called Nandroid and inside this folder there is another folder that has the same name as the Wimax img name (wimax.lettersandnumbers.img) the lettersandnumbers is what the folder will be called just place the CMW nandroid inside that folder and when you boot into recovery you will select that folder and there will be your nandroid and the one you just made.
SDcard>Nandroid>LettersAndNumbers>(place nandroid here)<
placing the nandroid in the right folder is the key to getting them to work

hi all. I already Unlock the Bootloader, I flash the Amon Ra 1.5.3, it works. I made the Nandroid backup, then after reboot it doesn't work. is going to original recovery (see triangle with exclamation mark in the middle). what can I do? I was trying several times but same results. Amon Ra recovery is working only until reboot... What I have done wrong? thanks in advance
You have to flash a ROM after flashing the Recovery for the Recovery to stick, if the same principle from the G1 transfers over to the N1... ie, flash Recovery, boot into it, flash a ROM, you are good to go.
I mean. it will not remain if I will not flash a custom rom?
Are you flashing from sd or fastboot?
from fast boot. i was following the steps from http://androidcommunity.com/forums/...ing-amon-ras-recovery-on-the-nexus-one-30499/.
A nandroid backup does not have the proper permissions/formatting for your system to boot.
You need to nandroid
then fastboot flash boot boot.img, etc

Have you already flashed (through OTA or manually) the last update released by google? If yes you need to delete (you must be root for this) the install-recovery.sh you find in /system/etc:
Code:
adb shell
cd system
cd etc
rm install-recovery.sh
By deleting this file I solved this problem of having to reflash the recovery after each rom reboot
ok. so, finally, someone can post one link or a explicit tutorial about how to install this recovery? at least one link would be good enough.. ... thanks

The reason your phone appears to be bricked is it (CWRM 3.0.0.5) is a ext4 recovery image, and 2.2 is a ext3 ROM....
. If you find a 2.x version of CWRM you can flash it via the ADB commands and restore the phone.
OR
boot into recovery and flash the CM7 w/ gapps then download CWRM ( the free one ) and flash 2.x that way. You'll have to scroll to the bottom and select one of the 2.x recovery images.
If you can get into Recovery or into fastboot your phone is not truly bricked.
I have CM7 installed and Rom Manager, but when i try to flash an older recovery it says it cannot be flashed. How exactly would you flash the 2.X version via ADB? Thanks.

If you can get into CwM recovery then just flash my zip and use the 3.0.0.6 recovery that is included. Then make sure that you make/restore all backups from recovery and not rom manager. Rom manager is not compatable with CwM 3.0.0.X when it comes to making nandroids.
Thanks a lot, but i keep running into and issue at the recovery. I followed the instructions from your thread, and i got into the blue recovery screen, but it says
"E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't mount DATA:data/recovery/log"
And the only option to restore is the Applysdcard:update.zip and that fails

So, that is the stock recovery. You need to choose the 3.0.0.5 version from "All ClockworkMod recoveries" if using my zip. If that wont work, try sending a new recovery via fastboot or terminal emulator.
You can set up adb/fastboot by checking out the link in my sig and using the command (make sure you rename the recovery to recovery.img for ease of use)
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
or you can try terminal method by placing the recovery on your sd card and renaming it recovery.img Then open up TE and type "su" then the flollowing
Code:
flash_image recovery recovery.img
If that doesnt work, then let me know and we will find some other things to try.

So, I'm a bit new around here and to rooting and flashing roms. I recently have been flashing rooms directly from rom manager. Everything was fine for weeks until I recentely tried flashing a rom by RVU. Now I'm stuck in the stock evo 4 g load screen and it keeps loading over and over. Any suggestions ? Is there away back into the boot loader ?

To get back to the bootloader, you'd need to pull the battery (won't hurt anything) and put it back in. Then hold the power button and volume down. That will get you to the bootloader
What do you mean you tried flashing a rom by RVU? I'm confused. RUU is rom utility update, or rom update utility, or something ike that. But if you ran an RUU it would put you back to completely stock.
If I were you, and in your situation, I'd pull the battery, boot to bootloader, and see if you can still get to your recovery. If you can, I'd try wiping everything then either restoring a nandroid backup if you have one, or a fresh install of a ROM. If you don't have recovery, post back and we'll see what needs to happen to get you back up again.
Well, the rom I flashed was created by team RVU....at least that's what it said. So, I made it as far as recovery. But by wipe you mean a wipe back to stock? I'm in as far as my clockwork mod recovery screen. Kinda lost now !!

Okay I gotchya now, although I don't think I've been informed of RVU before, I'll have to check it out. Anyways, thats good that you can still get to recovery. So you have never used it before? Just did everything from ROM manager before huh? I'm not familiar with clockwork recovery, as I use Amon, I'm trying to remember the little differences. First, you don't have any nandroid backups do you? Prob not if you're not familiar with clockwork and had never created a nandroid backup before! I'm not sure if backups made with ROM manager can be restored using CWM, doubtful though. So by wipe, I mean wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and wipe davlik cache. You will need to have a ROM on your sd card, so that you can install it from recovery. In order to wipe the dalvik cache using clockwork, i believe it is under the advanced section. Not sure though. Once you have everything wiped, and the ROM of your choice on the main directory of your sd card, choose 'flash zip from sd card' or 'install zip from sd card" or something to that nature, then find the ROM and flash it. If all goes well, you should be able to boot up after that. If you do indeed happen to have a nandroid backup, choose to restore that.
Yup, everything I've done has been through rom manager. Anywho, I peeked around inside some files. Inside my install zip from sd. I found a file labeled nandroid. Could that be the backup that your referring too ? If so, would i still have to wipe my phone ?

Nandroid folder is for amon RA backups. Clockwork backups are in the clockwork/backup folder.
Have you backed up your previous install? If so wipe all factory reset then restore a backup. Otherwise wipe all and flash a new rom.
This is why you do research and learn how to properly use your phone and any custom recovery before you reach this step. This is why manufacturers have crappy warranty policies because people ruin their phones by being stupid.

UPDATE: To fix 3.0.2.4 from not formatting /system
Open rom manager and select settings, and check erase recovery. hit menu again and select clear cache, then flash 3.0.2.4 again.
now if your in recovery and you cant boot back up to use rom manager, use the file below. It will allow you to restore your backup then once booted back up use the method above to fix 3.0.2.4.
The reason im leaving custom over 3.0.2.4 is bc i know fastboot flash with this one will allow you to restore without wiping recovery or clear cache or anything else.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/b8ejhqbf3tgnsoe/recovery.img - this is CMW 3.0.1.4 just altered for installing zips. linking for people needing a recover img to boot up
To install:
1. If in recovery, open ur terminal on ur pc and type adb reboot boatloader
2. Once in bootloader it will load fast boot and say fastboot usb in red
3. cd to the folder with fastboot.exe and also place recover.img in that folder
4. then enter fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
5. adb reboot recovery
6. restore your backup and boot up

I ran into the same problem. I tried to do a restore and got stuck. I used an sd card reader and put the 3rd file from the root thread PG05IMG.zip on the root of my sd card. I then put the card back in. Rebooted into recovery holding the volume down and the power button. It reflashed the file automatically and I followed the steps from 7 on to regain root. Worked for me, but now I have to start over. Hopefully they will get CWM working again. I will be much more careful about what I delete from now on. I think I will freeze it in TiBackup first to make sure everything is still working correctly. Hope this helps.

I don't know if I agree with that statement. ROM Manager has a lot of great features and a lot of utility, but flashing one Recovery over another is something it's not doing successfully right now.
ROM Manager has only one GREAT feature; Fixing permissions. Everything else is suspect to creating problems. Flashing recoveries should be done in Hboot, the right way, not short-cutting via some semi-useless apk.

ROM Manager has issues flashing one recovery over another. Hence the need to use a terminal emulator as the instructions I linked explain.
