hi all. I already Unlock the Bootloader, I flash the Amon Ra 1.5.3, it works. I made the Nandroid backup, then after reboot it doesn't work. is going to original recovery (see triangle with exclamation mark in the middle). what can I do? I was trying several times but same results. Amon Ra recovery is working only until reboot... What I have done wrong? thanks in advance
You have to flash a ROM after flashing the Recovery for the Recovery to stick, if the same principle from the G1 transfers over to the N1... ie, flash Recovery, boot into it, flash a ROM, you are good to go.
I mean. it will not remain if I will not flash a custom rom?
Are you flashing from sd or fastboot?
from fast boot. i was following the steps from http://androidcommunity.com/forums/...ing-amon-ras-recovery-on-the-nexus-one-30499/.
A nandroid backup does not have the proper permissions/formatting for your system to boot.
You need to nandroid
then fastboot flash boot boot.img, etc
DELETE......
wow way for them to steal my outdated tutorial..... bastards

Have you already flashed (through OTA or manually) the last update released by google? If yes you need to delete (you must be root for this) the install-recovery.sh you find in /system/etc:
Code:
adb shell
cd system
cd etc
rm install-recovery.sh
By deleting this file I solved this problem of having to reflash the recovery after each rom reboot
ok. so, finally, someone can post one link or a explicit tutorial about how to install this recovery? at least one link would be good enough.. ... thanks

So as many of you are now finding out is that clockwork is borked and so is root with the new update. The root method on cyanogenmod wont work. The rootboot.img breaks wifi and you still cannot get into clockwork recovery ... well at least I can't. Anyone else seeing this and possibly have a solution?

ya the OTA breaks root and CWM,,,thats why in roms the ability to OTA is removed
Reflash koush's clockwork recovery via fastboot.
After the successful flash, you can get into CWM recovery by selecting Recovery while still in fastboot.
Once in CWM, go to mount options menu and mount /system.
Then use adb shell to navigate to /system/bin.
Once in /system/bin type chmod 6775 su
Root functionality should now be restored when you're in normal boot mode.
Getting permanent CWM recovery back is proving more problematic for me. Once you reboot the phone after that first install, selecting Recovery gives you the Android and "!" screen. Battery pull required.
You can however, get back into CWM recovery by either fastboot flashing the image again as above, or from the ROM Manager app where you flash the recovery and then select boot into recovery.
Pain in the butt, but not totally lost.
Just a minor issue that comes from running custom recoveries and roms. Koush already is working on a flashable update that will work with CWR. Just gotta be patient. Chances are that if you have been keeping up with the tweaks and new apk's in the dev forum, this update won't really mean that much anyway. I am a sucker for wanting the latest version number in my "about phone" though

Hello,
I am currently running Rom Manager 3.0.1.0 with ClockworkMod Recovery version 3.0.0.6. I'm trying to install GorillaSense DHD-MT4G Revolution theme on my phone but, I can't seem to install the update due to the ClockworkMod version. I need to downgrade to 2.5.1.2. When I do this through the Rom Manager it states that I have successfully flashed ClockworkMod Recovery but when I reboot into recovery, it doesn't load.
The versions available to me is 3.0.0.6 and 2.5.1.4. Is there any way I can get access to 2.5.1.2 again?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well if you have Rom Manager 3.0.1.0 then yes you can flash Recovery 2.5.1.2 by going to Rom Manager and go down to the last option "All clockworkmod recoveries". Find 2.5.1.2 from the list and it will flash it for you.
Thank you for your quick reply. My problem lies in the fact that Rom Manager states that I have successfully flashed 2.5.1.2 but when I try load boot into recovery the recovery does not load.

Well in that case manually flash it via terminal. Just put the 2.5.1.2 recovery.img in SDCard and flash it.

You will need flash_recovery file which you can find by using search function along with 2.5.1.2.img this meth works as I did it always.
EDIT: Sorry if you can't find it but here is the atth as I keep backup of almost everything on mSD.BkP so download it and unzip them in root of your /sdcard so you will have standalone flash_recovery and recovery.img in it.
Thanks for all your help. That worked perfectly.

No problem glad could help, thats why I love console(terminal) once you understand SC and basic *nix arc you can virtually rip apart anything without any GUI frame.

Had a similar issue and followed your directions above in terminal. After I enter in the last line and hit enter, is it supposed to show something going on because it just goes to the next line. I downloaded your attached clockwork file and put it on the root of my SD card. Thanks for any help.

I don't quite remember what happens after you enter the last command on the terminal but, the only command I entered when I downloaded the files and extracted it to the root was "su[enter]
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img[enter]"
After that I was able to boot into recovery.
Another option is deleting the copy of the recovery in your SD card and redownloading it with ROM Manager. Just go to: /sdcard/clockworkmod/download/mirror1.kanged.net/recoveries. Delete recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-glacier.img, redownload and try loading it with Rom Manager again.
Hopes this helps.
Ok I have no idea what happened but I can not get into recovery mode. Rom manager takes me straight to bootloader and selecting recovery in bootloader takes me back to bootloader...! I've tried reflashing recovery via clockwork but no go, and flashing old 2.X.X versions gives me an error...
Help?
ROM Manager seems to be the least reliable way to flash the recovery. Try flashing it through terminal emulator or better yet, if you have the engineering SPL, do it through fastboot.
If you don't know how though you could try a reinstall of rom manager and if your running a custom rom boot straight into recovery from there to see what happens

The thing is that is how I have always done it and how I did it with this phone originally but something got messed up somehow. Anyhow how do I flash that with Terminal? I have never done that before. Do you have a link to a totorial and a download for clock work that can be flashed that way?

First download CWM 3.0.0.6 from here and put the file in the root of your SD.
Then open terminal emulator and enter these commands:
Code:
$su
#flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
Hello all,
I'm a newbie on this Android matters, I've been using Android Donut just for a week
I want to upgrade from 1.6 to the latest gingerbread. I've been reading all about rooting, flashing, backups etc...
So far I rooted my device sucessfully using Androot. Installed Rom Manager and hit the Flash ClockworkMode Recovery, now it says Current Recovery: ClockworkMod 3.0.2.7.
For my next step I want to do a full backup of my current stock rom before proceding with the installation of the new rom. The problem is, I can't get into the Clockwork recovery menu on startup, even if I choose startup on recovery on Rom Manager it takes me to the stock recovery and there is no backup option.
Can you help me?

On power up press the Home + Power key all in one go..............
I tried that and the screen stops at an image of a triangle with a phone next to it. Then I push again home + power and the screen of Android recovery appears, but with only 4 options, reboot, factory reset, delete cache and install zip from sd card.
When I go to Rom manager, Clockwork is installed.
I'm now reading about two files that may stick stock recovery, /system/etc/install-recovery.sh and /system/recovery-from-boot.p, I think it is supposed to erase or rename, but using Root Explorer I can't see any of that two files.
I really want to use clockwork, backup stock rom and move on to the latest CM7.
Give me some advice
Thanks
AFAIK, rom manager flashes temporary clockwork mode recovery when you select this option from its menu. But isn't really flashed permanetly. Download latest clockworkmod recovery(I think there is a link on kalim's cyanogenmod rom thread) and flash it via adb with flash_image command.
Thanks, I will give it a try. I was trying to get it done without using adb or terminal modes, but if it's the only way, I'll try.
What about the tattoohack file, I've been reading about it and it must be "installed" or I may brick the phone.
Any update I'll post.
If you have errors, with command line is better to understand in which step the error occurs and find a solution.
As for the tattohack file I think that needed a specific kernel version to work properly. And there are 2 versions of that file. And if you have another kernel from these two, probably you will have problems. For this I suggested to first flash the international stock rom.
No success. I've unrooted the phone and did the cyanogen wiki tutorial with m7 exploit, su and flash_image.
I can't do the chown root.root su, it says chown not found or something like that. It also happens before to get stuck into a loop with rebootcommand appearing on shell when I do the exit after the root. Then I can't make the root stick. I do ctrl+c to kill the shell. I tried doing the rest of the proccess but on chown the command don't apply.
I need clockworkmod recovery in order to flash the latest CM7 right?
Maybe I can try to use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950759, it's an automated operation.
I didn't make a goldcard, but on this tut it says that it's a nice to have. I'll try to do it with this method.
cant get into clockwork recovery
i have the same issue i have clockwork flashed from rom manager and is says it is installed the latest 5.0.2.0 and i even flashed it via ADB flash recovery but after i flash recovery from ADB and from bootloader i go to recovery i can go in the clockwork recovery but once i reboot the phone turn it off and try to reboot in recovery with power+trackball on my nexus one i get the triangle with the exclamation ! and then the stock recovery options
can anyone post a solution to this please....

I know about your problem cuz i had it also and i couldnt install using a pc cuz the usb port was cinda crushed.
The problem is that u used Universal Androot 1.6.2 Beta 5 to root, am i correct??
If that the case then you just need to root via Universal Androot 1.6.1. That solved my problem. Then you just need to continue like you started with Rom manager.
I figured out that the root made by Universal Androot 1.6.2 Beta 5 was causing the fakeflash.
OK, so I flashed one of the new leaked ICS stock ROMs and it appears that everything is ok. I'm digging all of the features including the panoramic camera. I decide that I want to put on Taboonay for a little flavor. I try to boot into recovery and this is what I get:
Erasing cache before SD update
SD update cmd: recovery
--update_Package=SDCARD:update.zip
Booting recovery kernel image
(IN RED) Recovery verified failed
Yes, I tried to flash a recovery image through the ACER recovery install and the ROM Manager. Both of them flashed an image with no problem, until I actually tried to flash an image.
My question is this: How do I flash a recovery image if my bootloader is busted?
I do have ADB access , so it there a way I can copy a recovery image file directly onto the A500?
I appreciate the help!

Well, not sure if I can get you up and running. This is going to depend on if you followed traditional installation instructions that are posted on every thread that contains a Rom.
But first, let's cover where you went wrong. And that would probably be when you went back to Recovery. It seems, you didn't hit Vol - and PWR, but instead selected Vol + and PWR. And as such, it tried to run an update.zip file, which is a no-no. This resulted in a corrupted image.
Secondly, Rom Manager is a phone app. This will in most cases, bork your tab.
First, I would try Acer Installer (newest version) and try to install RA Recovery. If you were using CWM before, you probably can't flash it again.
If that doesn't work, then you will have to roll back from ICS, and you will need your original UID number. Hopefully you wrote this down somewhere. If you were using RA Recovery, you will find the UID number in the UID.txt on your SD Card in the Recovery folder (if you made a system backup before flashing ICS roms). If you were using CWM, well, it might be buried in one of the .img files in the clockwork folder (again, if you made a backup before flashing ICS). You will have to de-compile the image files to find it (hopefully).
If your ADB seems to be working, you may want to push the RA Recovery;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459821
If you have your original UID number, then you may want to try this;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1522384
or this;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516012
Hope you get it going. From what I have seen, mostly when the people lose their recovery, they were using CWM. Haven't heard of any losing it when using RA Recovery. But anyhow, use Acer Recovery first, and try the RA Recovery.
