Hi,
Go to 8. ad recovery>backup and restore.
Make a NANDROID backup.
Install the new ROM.
Go back to 8. ad recovery>backup and restore.
Do an advanced restore of your data.
Reboot
make a nandroid backup, wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cache, flash the new rom, in mgldr select advanced restore, restore data, restore sd-ext then reboot.
another way (but not safe always, after you make a nand backup you can try)
just wipe dalvik cache then in mgldr go to mounts and storage and wipe cache, then flash the new rom and reboot.
Nandroid backup is safer. you can also use Titanium Backup... It's free on Market.
I upgrade my ROM by wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (NOT wipe data/factory reset) and flash upgraded version and I haven't any problems with upgrading
Or .. Read NDT's own thread, I have used his ROM before. He says exactly how to upgrade, I think in the 2nd or the 3rd post.

No seriously, I have seen this asked several times so I thought I'd start a post on what you do when you flash a rom.
My setup is Clockwork 2.6.0.1, rom manager 3.0.0.7 and I mostly run CM7. This is my process for flashing nightlies:
1. Boot to recovery
2. Backup
3. Wipe Cache
4. Wipe Dalvik
5. Wipe Battery Stats
6. Reboot
7. Run Rom Manager
8. Rename backup
9. Download CM7 nightly and check the Gapps check box
10. Let Rom Manager do it's thing
11. Enjoy CM7 goodness.
If I'm flashing to something other than CM, it goes something like this:
1. Boot to recovery
2. Backup
3. Clear data and factory reset
4. Wipe Cache
5. Wipe Dalvik
6. Wipe Battery Stats
7. Installl rom from zip on SD
8. Reboot
I usually dont have any issues, ocassionally I get stuck at the HTC white screen but a battery pull and reboot clears it up.
So how do you flash?
Charge 100%
Backup Apps with important data with Titanium Backup.
Backup the rest with Astro File Manager
Reboot to Recovery
Nandroid Backup
Wipe Everything
Flash Rom
Flash Theme (If I'm using one)
Boot Up
Sync and set preferences
Restore Apps
No backups. Just wipe with Ra 2.3 and flash away.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
titanium backup all apps I use
backup from ROM manager after deleting the previous nandroid
factory reset
wipe cache
wipe davlic
factory reset again
wipe cache again

Pretty much the same here, except after 7 I flash Calkulin's format all zip. I had some problems with clockwork not wiping everything a while back and now I'm paranoid about it.
*Take a fresh 100% battery off the external charger (my equivalent to opening a six pack)
*Backup contacts using v cards
*backup apps using titanium backup and app brain
*backup bookmarks using bookmarks to sd
*wipe dalvik, cache partition, and wipe data
*flash rom, boot it up then flash other stuff
*then retrieve v card with contacts back ana start connecting them to their facebook again
*restore apps with titanium and leave out apps idgaf about
*enjoy, I should have drank to myn's rls 5 lol

I want to clean and delete all data on my a500, just like when it comes from the store.
My tablet is rooted, do you advice me to wipe it by going to the menu settings, or should i do it in CWM?
In CWM what option do i use?
Thanks!
Learn how to flash a new rom on it. Google xda , find your device and look in android development for your device

Hello there. I usually follow the instructions in the install page for Virtuous Picasso. Just google "How to Install Virtuous Picasso ROM on Acer Iconia A500." It goes over how to install the custom ROM, but the pre-work is very detailed. The only thing missing in there is that you could/should also wipe the battery stats. It's in the Advanced menu under the "Wipe Dalvik Cache" option. I hope this helps.
use CWM, boot into recovery mode, then wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, go to advanced: wipe Dalvik cache, wipe battery status, & don't forget to wipe your behind
Do you need to Wipe Data/Factory reset from CWM when flashing from a custom rom to another?
or can I just wipe cache partition, Dalvik cache & battery stats.
If I do Wipe Data/Factory reset from CWM, does it erase your internal SD card?
that's just the same question i want to ask!
i can't flashing the custom rom from virtuos 1.0.4 to taboonay 1.1, even i allready wipe all data and cache. should i flashing the stock rom first?

My suggestion is that your read through the forums here as there are several "beginner guides" that will get you started.
After you installed your first custom rom the process proves itself to be easy:
- Flash a stock ROM (2.2 nordic)
- Acquire root using SuperOneClick
- Instal Clockworkmod recovery/2ndInit (I prefer 2ndInit)
- Transfer the nandroid backup (.zip file) to the root of your SD card
- Reboot phone when led turns blue hit volume down
-Wipe data
-Wipe cache
-Wipe Dalvik (It's under advanced)
-Restore -> select update zip from sdcard
- Browse to the nandroid backup file you put on your sdcard in step 4
Done
My phone is rooted with the XtreStoLite ROM and I'd like to sell it since I've upgraded to a S6 Edge. I've been googling around for ways to wipe the phone before selling and am a bit confused. If I select all the options in TWRP (System, data, cache, boot, efs) and wipe those, will that also get rid of all my old nandroips and titanium backups?
Thanks for your help!
If you choose to wipe internal and external storage, factory reset, wipe SYSTEM, DATA and CACHE in TWRP (Basically choose everything in the advanced WIPE menu)
That should remove everything
Then use ODIN to flash a stock ROM back to the phone, and return it to factory setup
