Used the single .tar file upgrade from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1174161
I used the Non-Wipe [fixed version by Intratech] version.
The firmware flash is successful. However, I cannot use Odin to flash CF-ROOT kernel (CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KG2-v4.1-CWM4.tar). Every time it is just stuck at Get Pit for mapping???
Any clue?
I used Intratech's Non-Wipe version, flashed CF Root for KG1; rooted the device and got back to KG2 stock kernel.
Inshort it worked fine for me. Try flashing KG2 again and see.

Could you please post the stock KG2 kernel that you have?
Thanks
You are using the wrong CF-ROOT Kernel.
You should use the KG1 CF-ROOT for the new KG2 firmware.
After that, flash the KG2 kernel (only) back to your S2.
You need the KG1 CF-ROOT as this is based on 2.3.4 while the KG2 CF-ROOT images are for 2.3.3.
You can download the firmware here:

This includes the original kernel:

It is a KG2 firmware. Shouldn't I use a KG2 CF-RooT?
anyway, i will try the KG1 CF-Root.
BTW, u mentioned flash back the KG2 kernel, how can I get the kernel? The non-wipe version has only one tar file....
Thanks

Thanks, mate.
It seems our posts got crossed.
Is there any way that I can get the original KG2 kernel? It seems that thread has a complete firmware.
Hi mates,
Could you please review the followings b4 I start?
1. Fire up Odin to flash CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4.tar (I believe I will get the yellow triangle after the flash?)
2. Use Odin to flash back the original kernel: KERNEL_I9100XXKG2_CL375027_REV02_user_low_ship.tar .md5
3. Use the CWM App to flash the zImage kernel extracted from the CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4.tar
Are the above correct?
Thanks
It is very strange.
I still get stuck at the Get Pit for Mapping?
I was using the CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4.tar..

How are you flashing ? You have to select PDA and choose the tar file. Also make sure you don't select re-partition.

I don't think that is right.
Instructions as taken from Chainfire's topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Instructions - ODIN (short)-
- Flash CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4.tar as PDA in ODIN, without repartition. Done.
The zip you need is named:
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4.zip
This zip contains:
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4.tar
Mind you that after downloading the zip file, some programs wil try to automatically extract the tar inside it. Then you end up with the zimage.
Make sure to not do that
For flashing back the original KG2 kernel, take the kernel from the package as I described above.
KERNEL_I9100XXKG2_CL375027_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Flash as PDA in ODIN without repartition, same as flashing CF-ROOT.
Done.

I flashed the CF-Root KF4 kernel b4.
So I am sure I did follow the instructions step by step.
Yes, I chose the tar file in the PDS field, re-partition was not selected.
I have tried numerous times. It is just stuck at Get Pit for mapping sth....
b4, I used the KG2 CF-Root file, so I am not surprised I failed thanks to Tr1gg3R and Tanmay®.
However, I still get stuck though I used the KG1 CF-Root file........

Hi Sileshn, if that is correct, could you please explain me why he should flash the CF-ROOT twice?
In step 1, he does so via ODIN.
In step 3, he extracts the tar and flashes it again via CWM.
I'm not sure I understand that
Please elaborate.
Why overwrite the KG2 kernel again with the CF-ROOT KG1 kernel?

Odin would be stuck at "Get pit for mapping" sth....
If you have a backup of what is currently on your S2, you could try reflashing the wipe-image.
Not the non-wipe from Intratech, but the one posted by Darkyy:
http://www.multiupload.com/G1GBNSDYJA
After that I would do a factory reset, just to make sure everthing is stock from the KG2 Firmware.
Then repeat flashing the KG1 CF-ROOT etc.
Very frustrated.
Didn't have any problem b4 when I flashed the CF-Root KF4.
And Tr1gg3R,
I cant even pass Step 1 that I mentioned previously.
That 3-step instruction is what I summarize from Chainfire's link.
The 3rd step summarized from the below (chainfire's post):
Getting rid of that pesky warning triangle during boot
It is definitely possible to remove that pesky warning triangle during boot when running a custom kernel, though you should be well aware that this method does NOT reset the custom kernel flash counter. The steps are not complicated, but they aren't easy either, so read well.
(1) Make sure you have CF-Root flashed (see the first post). You must have the "CWM Manager" app available.
(2) Make sure you have the same version of CF-Root extracted until you have the zImage file. (ZIP --> extract --> TAR --> extract --> zImage).
(3) Push the zImage file to /sdcard . It must still be called zImage !
(4) Find an original Samsung signed stock kernel (preferably from the same stock firmware you have, but it's not terribly important)
(5) Reboot into download mode (adb reboot download, or boot the device with home and volume-down pressed)
(6) Fire up ODIN, and flash the Samsung kernel
(7) Boot the device with the stock kernel. CWM Manager will still be available.
(8) Start CWM Manager, select Flash Kernel, and select the zImage from CF-Root you previously put on your SD-card. The kernel will flash and the device will reboot.
(9) You will now notice you no longer have the warning triangle during boot, but you are actually running CF-Root with all it's goodies!
(10) In the future, if you only use the Flash Kernel option inside CWM Manager instead of ODIN, the triangle will not return, neither will your flash counter increase. But keep in mind, that CWM Manager can only handle a direct "zImage" if you are NOT running a kernel with full busybox support (this is currently needed for flashing kernels out of .TAR and .ZIP files)

Yeah, I do have the backup. However, it is in Titanium Backup. I need root access
I am a bit reluctant to do a clean wipe is because what if I still cannot flash the KG1 CF-Root....
I planned to do a non-wipe upgrade then root the phone. Then do a factory reset and finally restore from Titanium.........
It seems i got s crewed this time....
You could try to ask for help in the CF-Root topic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Sorry that all the above didn't solve your troubles.
Worst-case, reflash/factory-reset.
But that doesn't seem so bad to me.
Most can be redownloaded from the market, and the rest you could put on your SD-card.

Try entering recovery mode after flashing stock kernel over cf-root without the third step and see if you can access cwm.

Don't panic !
You can get the most stable 2.2 firmware xxjpm as well as the flashing steps from here..

whats the difference between jpm jpf etc....
which rom should i go for???[no bugs at all]
well XXJPM is latest firmware than XXJPF
I5801ZFJPE ##
I5801ZHJPF ##
these two are available at samfirmware, which one should i get??
and which rom is best and stable??
Download I5800XXJPM
remove boot.bin and sbl.bin (edit using winrar)
then select as one package and flash
i need a credible source about jpm...iam not sure its not even in i5801 section...
We flash 5800 firmware all the time, just be sure to check for the above mentioned boot files.
i cant wait for days,i need to do something today....so going for jpm
any precautions while flashing ??
it's not in 5801 b=coz it's a 5800 rom
both are same phone (there is no difference that i know) if u goto any phone specification websites, u'll not find any difference
5801 was first created for orange-europe similar to locked blackberry and i-phones of airtel and vodaphone
then they changed the whole production stream to I5801(changed stickers and boot screen only difference)
should sd card be inserted while flashing??
the first time it starts up after flashing it's gonna take a long time
DO NOT REMOVE DATA CABLE ON ANY CONDITION DURING FLASHING
if the boot logo (the samsung screen) stays for more than 15 min, remove battery, close&restart odin, goto download mode and flash again
be sure to remove the two files-(if they are not present then no problem)
that's not a problem but let it remain inside (custom rom using data2sd & app2sd must have sd card access during flashing)
My rom suggestion:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986831
It also contains instructions on how to flash. You can use the instructions to flash JPM too (if you dont want a custom rom), just use the JPM onepackage file instead of the indroid.
Recommended JPM download:
http://www.filesonic.com/file/183636761/JPM.tar
or
http://www.fileserve.com/file/KJFSBBq/JPM.tar
After flashing I'd suggest enabling JIT (dunno if it works with JPM, pretty sure it does. It definitely works with indroid)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12736421&postcount=2
You could also try out the fugumod BE kernel (with overclock), however it might not be stable so its up to you:

i already downloaded jpm [115 mb] from samfirmware but not yet started the flashing process...
edit:figured it out its 243 mb after extracting
where are these files and how to remove them "boot.bin and sbl.bin"
i can only see
1,cache.rfs
2,datafs.rfs
3,factoryfs.rfs
4,modem[bin file]
5,zimage
In what format did it come in? Odin accepts .tar and .tar.md5 files
1.If its a one package (one tar) first check if it (the tar file) contains boot.bin and sbl.bin, if so REMOVE THEM. If something goes wrong while flashing them it can "brick" your phone (make it unusable and unfixable by you)
To flash click on the link i posted above and follow flashing instructions on post 4 (or post 3/5 not sure which post it is)
2.If it comes in several packages (phone csc pda bootloader) flash phone csc and pda with odin, DO NOT FLASH BOOTLOADER, same reason as above for boot and sbl.
Flashing like this is quite similar to flashing a one package (instructions- first link of previous post). The difference is you dont tick/check one package in odin and you dont choose a onepacke file, but you choose phone, csc and pda to there respective places then flash
3.It might (but shouldn't) also come as a bunch of files, factory.rfs data.rfs etc, (if there are boot.bin and sbl.bin, REMOVE THEM)if so you have to .tar them. Google for a program that can make .tar files (like 7zip).
After making the .tar file flash as it by following the instructions in the link in my previous post (its a one package flash)
EDIT: just saw your post. those two files (boot and sbl) have already been removed. If the files you do have didnt come in a .tar use method 3 in this post, if they did come in a tar use method 1

Hello everyone,
I saw this question over and over around so I decided to post a quick guide here.
After I installed the insecure kernel on my SGS2, to allow me to root, I did a series of quadrant tests. And after comparing 10 runs with the 10 runs I did prior to root, I ended up with the impression that I lost about 200-400 points per run. The tests were not entirely conclusive, since the margin is not big (compared with the total). Regardless, I still wanted to try to squeeze out every bit of performance I can out of this beast. That's when I decided to re-flash the original stock kernel.
What you will need, is basically the same thing you did to gain root, but with another kernel.
Make sure you know what you are doing. I am not responsible if you do it wrong and brick your phone.
1. First download the stock kernel:
You can find the stock kernels here: http://nma.usk.bz/sgs2.php
DO NOT UNTAR THE FILE. Leave it as it is.
2. Now open Odin and put your phone in Download mode
3. IMPORTANT: Make sure that "Auto Reboot" and "F.Reset Time" are check. And that EVERYTHING else is UNchecked.
4. Load the .tar file on the PDA field. Just click on "PDA" and open the file.
5. Click "Start"
Done, you are back to your stock kernel and will keep root. This does not revert what you already installed (su, SuperUser, busybox, etc).
If you have any questions, post it here.

Thank you for pointing it out. I had a hard time finding it when I needed. Hope this helps more people out there.
This one is from the original stock rom downloaded from kies. I just extracted the zImage.
I no this is not relevant To stock kernel but if i update my phone to newest firmware this will work the same way,?
also there is a overclock kernel out if i want overclock kernel after i update to new firmware i would need to flash the root kernel then flash the overclock kernel to beable to have my phone run newest firmware with overclock kernel that is rooted.?
Thanks

How can we extract only the kernel from a stock firmware?
I googled a lot and figgured out that this way should be the right.
* Flash new Firmware via ODIN (.tar File)
* Root with old KDD Kernel
* Open the FW .tar File
* Delete all except "zImage"
* Flash new .tar file via Odin
That should it be. Am not sure but
Will try when i got 100% and backuped my sdcard
So we have to delete all the files in the tar, except "zImage". I found a guide to do it, but for the *.rar, I tried with the *.tar but it didn't work

Thanks. The kernel I used to root I think introduced an intermittent mic issue during calls.. now I'm back to the standard kernel and no more issue.
Thanks dude
The warning triangle should be gone.
Try to reflash again and see if it helps. Did you flash anything else?
Lastly, which "brand" is your phone? This is for the XEU branded phone. If you have O2 or Korean versions, you will need a different stock kernel. I can get them for you.
To check your brand, type on your phone: *#272*<your IMEI>#
You can find your IMEI number on: Menu -> Settings -> About Phone -> Status .

you can extract from the .tar and then tar it under linux use this command :
Code:
tar -cf zImage filename.tar
or google "tar for windows" then you can run it under windows
and then ,you can get a tar contains zImage and you can flash it by odin

Hi, thanks. But there's something wrong with the KE2 Kernel. In the zip there is only a zimage file. I tried converting this file to a tar archieve. However flashing the tar in Odin didn't work. Can someone please upload a working tar file?

The KE2 kernel file I downloaded was the tar itself rather than the tar contained in a zip.
Using the file as downloaded in odin worked fine.

Hi, I checked my brand after flashing the insecure tar, and it shows DBT (it starts boot German ) so can you tell me what i need to download to get back to UK settings.
Thanks Brian.
Hi, i've just flashed the I9100XWKE1_I9100XXKDJ_I9100OXXKE1_HOME.TAR witch is on Samfirmware (for France)
But i don't have the original kernel to flash over the rom after the root.
I don't want to flash the Xeu kernel because it is for UK.
I tried to delete the winrar files to keep only the Zimage file on this rom, but I can't delete anything.
I would be happy to know how to create the kernel.tar for the different firmwares
Or if someone could do it for me ?
Link of the rom :

thanks a lot

I tried to flash the FM kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342807) and I bricked my note I am not sure what I did wrong but I had flashed the AbyssKernel before without issues
my note is not starting in recovery mode only in Download mode!
I have the zImage of my stock kernel and of the AbyssKernel how can I flash them from the download mode ?

I did the same thing. If you don't want to reflash an entire signed ROM, the only way I recovered was flashing Chainfire's CF-Root kernel with Odin. Beware though, this will set your unsigned flash counter +1 and give you the yellow triangle. You can remove the yellow triabgle later by flashing the stick zImage with Chainfire's initial CF-Root kernel flasher then reflash your custom kernel. Maybe someone has a sock signed kernel tar?
Use Odin to flash the stock image back on to the phone under download mode. Use the PDA section.
thank you both for the quick reply
which version of CF-root root should I flash ? i was running XXKKA
any tutorial on how to use Odin? i click on start nothing is happening

Launch Odin, select PDA and browse to CF-Root KKA kernel tar file. Again, this will +1 your unsigned flash counter and void your warrranty.
I just did this and it worked, it seems, for some reason that the USB port was not working.
Anyway now I have the +1 and no warranty
anyway to reset ? you mentioned it could be done by another flash ?
I thought that flashing samsung firmware doesn't increase the counter. I went through pretty similar scenario to the one described by ArcitcCat, flashed original KKA firmware with Odin (even though my phone came with KJ4 originally) and can't see no triangle anywhere? Is it like hidden somewhere or what?

Untar and grab the zImage file out of the stock KKA ROM and use Chainfire's Initial CF-Root flasher to flash the stock kernel back. That removes the triangle. Then use the same flasher and reflash CF-Root KKA kernel. After that's all done, you can go into CWM and flash any kernel you like. The flash counter can be reset. Do a search, there's documentaion on that around.

Yes, but he did not want to go through flashing an entire ROM and rooting all over. I recommended both options.
WoW I flashed back the zImage I had backed up from my stock ROM and the triangle is gone!
does it mean that the counter is reset also ?
Thanks man !
Hey, I tried flashing JW4 stock rom via ODIN which I downloaded from sammobile.
The name of the file is I9000XXJW4_I9000OXAJW4_XEU.zip and on extracting there were 2 files called JW4_JW4_JW4.tar & SS_DL.dll. I selected the tar file in PDA and flashed. The process passed but am stuck with bootloop. Plz help
I also flashed a jw4. But that was without the dll.
Anyway, after i flashed and it booted up i got a doozen errors telling me it couldnt mount different partitions.
So i gave it up as a bad one and found a thread here at xda with different stock roms and ended up with jw5.
No complications whatsoever. Yet
just google for "stock roms i9000 xda" and you should stumble over the thread i believe.
Good luck

I faced exactly the same problem: bootloop after flashing XXJW4 and many mount errors in the screen. I concluded that this firmware is not standalone in the sense that you cannot flash and repartition the device using it. Following this logic I performed these steps, leading me to a successfully recovered and fully functional XXJW4 phone:
Flash it with a full stock firmware, e.g. XXJVU (mark "repartition" as well).
Flash XXJW4 as you have done it, but make sure "Repartition" is not selected. That is, just select the tar file in the PDA field and leave the rest with the default options.
Another huge problem Got Black Screen Of Death. Am able to get my phone on to download mode but odin is not detecting my phone. HELP ME What to do?

Use another USB port. You can flash deodex version of JW4 which doesn't have any problems
bootloops
Factory Reset / Cache Wipe /
use by the Pitfile from JW 1 and flash the JW 4 ,that`s it !!
LG.G.

Your PDA file might be missing the dbdata.rfs file, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24182099&highlight=dbdata#post24182099, which can cause boot loops.
so i'm trying to root/rom my wife's i9000m.
i was having driver issues, but managed to get it going.
i had gingerbread JVU on it already (i have no idea how) and downloaded the CF-Root for it. flashed using Odin, booted back into CWM recovery. here's where i dun goof'd: i neglected to create a backup.
not a big deal from a data standpoint - she only had pics on there, which i backed up in windows.
however:
i tried flashing aokp, and about 5 seconds after clicking "Yes - This cannot be undone!", it rebooted and gave me a boot loop.
it wouldn't let me boot back into CWM, so i rebooted to download mode and reflashed CF-Root.
now, nothing mounts. i can boot back into CWM, but it can't mount ANYTHING. no /sdcard, no /cache, no nothing. can't enable USB mode, either.
did i brick it, or is this salvageable?
Can you get download mode?

yes
Here is a link to firmware...flash it in Odin. Your stock firmware is ugkg3. Download it and extract it into 3 files. Modem,PDA,and CSC. Use only the modem and csc. Next download the latest JW6 same thing extract it. You will use only the PDA .now put phone in download mode. Load files in Odin.appropriate spots, use 512 pit. Connect phone to computer. Press start. Takes about 10 minutes.

When you done this I tell you how to root.

thanks!
i actually JUST finished getting it back based on these instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881
i'm now on stock 2.3.3, KG3
You should upgrade to jw6 it's much better than kg3. Use only modem and csc. There are no good root kernels for kg3. Move up to jw6 and root with semaphore 2.7.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14481782
Flash semaphore 2.7.4.tar in Odin as a pda. Takes 10 seconds. Note this is not for kg3. Upgrade to here first.

Do you know about this thread?
[HOWTO] Flashing CWRecovery to i9000m & upgrade to ICS AOSP 4.x ROM from any version
It's the gospel for i9000m, even if you decide not to go all the way to ICS.

What modem are you using on Slim?
Kg3 flashed in cwm as a zip. Slim is awesome btw. Highly recommend. Really snappy no bugs at all. I had more reboots on previous gingerbread.
