SwiftKey Tablet X - Xoom General

I can't believe people have not brought up SwiftKey X. IT'S a Keypad made especially for Tablets. It's. AMAZING. It has normal mode and thumb, but the most keypad typing mode with the press of a button. Has Blue Neon keypads for typing in dark when wifey is sleeping. Got it for $2 when it first came out, but now it's $5 and totally worth it. AWESOME Keypad Tablet for Xoom's etc. etc. This Dev got it right. Check it out.

Also got it when it first came out. Love the keyboard layout but it's kinda annoying that it doesn't support Asian languages

Purchased this yesterday. Loving it.

Been using it on my Nexus One since it first came out a year ago ... bought the official tablet release on day 1 too (was using the beta)

how does this compare to the Thumb Keyboard? I've been using that since I bought my xoom. I have swiftkey for my phone and usually turn off the autocomplete using spacebar feature. Since I would probably do that on the tablet version too, is there any reason to switch to it?

I use Thumb Keyboard but I always did like SwiftKey's word recognition. Thumb Keyboard is good so I'm not sure that after buying that I want to buy another keyboard...

With 1 button click you go from normal Keypad to Thumb Keypad. It's on the bottom row. You will see the 123 button, SwiftKey button and then a button that looks like dots, that switches you from normal mode to 2 Thumb mode with a click of the button. AWESOME. This is how a Tablet Keypad should be. LOVE this Keypad

Using the Neon Blue buttons at night is a reason all by itself. Can use Xoom while wifey is asleep and TV turned off. No need for external light

Am I the only one finding SwiftKey shift key implementation counter-intuitive? Perhaps it's just that IMHO the standard keyboard nails it.

I checked it out. Then went back to thumbs keyboard. The It was OK but thumbs keyboard has more options

Anyone else hit period instead of spacebar?

I do it constantly, most.of.my.sentances.look.like.this.

Haha, no. Haven't had any problems here.
haha. i.thought.i.was.the.only.one! =/
is there any other keyboard with a longer spacebar and a smaller period button/?
Swype son! that'll fix your problem quick. It took me a few attempts to get it right but that keyboard is amazing and it works great from portrait mode. it automatically enters a space between words when you lift your finger off the screen.
smart keyboard pro has a much longer space bar and it's an excellent keyboard.
Wow. Great app! Thanks! I was getting really annoyed at that period key location.
Im still stuck with muscle memory from the iphone, and i keep missing the spacebar. But im getting better at it.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Use swype, then you don't need to hit the space.

I have the same problem. I was doing the same thing on my incredible before my X as well. I don't like swype though and it seems even worse on a bigger screen.
Any keyboards that remove the useless keys beside the spacebar? I.seriously.end.up.typing.like.this.in.all.my.SMSes.
I keep missing the spacebar and end up typing five words together before i realize what i did.

I do it on occasion, but only when I am in a hurry.

I had the same problem, pretty badly. Coming from iPhone. I read this thread, and installed Smart Keyboard Pro. What a difference. I went with the HTC skin and I'm *loving* it. Like night and day. Very customizable, too. Love the gestures and the hold for alt-key.
Swype is awesome but...
The landscap keyboard sucks, the buttons are too close together and the space button is on the right? Potrait I love though. I wish I could combine the two!
Smartkeyboard pro is awesome. No more period instead of space
Yeah.I.am.typing.like.this.all the time too and it is very annoying.
I actually like the stock keyboard except for that one issue with the period key... should be a few more pixels to the right to make the spacebar bigger and it would be perfect.
The other BIG issue I have is lack of arrowkeys. WTF? You mis-type something and then have to try clicking kind of close to the mistake, but you know you never get it perfectly, so I end up deleting and retrying. PITA. Give me some arrow keys for editing purposes.

touch sensitivity a bit dull no?

so I'm coming from the captivate and I feel like the touch screen on the Atrix is quite dull. The iphone4 is very obviously superior to both unfortunately.
Anyone else having some real difficulty with the touch sensitivity/accuracy of the atrix?
nope, so far I haven't had any problems with the touchscreen
No issues here. Last phone was an Epic 4G and they are about the same.

I had some issues with catching the space bar on the keyboard at first, but I think that was just me... haven't really noticed any issues for the last couple days. I feel like the screen is generally pretty responsive. I'd say it's better than the screen on my 3GS.

I think I kind of got used to the position. I also ended up getting the gingerbread keyboard app which helps a lot since you can change the keyboard size and spacing. I only had problems in landscape, like you mentioned. Don't really have any issues now.

I agree, if anything it's too responsive. Almost like it's trying to predict what I'm going to select. It can be annoying at times b/c I barely hover the screen and an app launches.
For the person asking the question, are you using a screen protector? I know those have a way of reducing the sensitivity of the touch screen.
Very responsive, far more than iphone 3g. As others have said I had issues with the space bar in landscape mode but keyboardpro helped a lot.
I think one reason I would think it isn't responsive is because I can't type as fast on the atrix as I could on my inspire and nexus s
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I agree that it is very dull. My dad just bought one and I set it up for him and showed him how to use it. If people think it is responsive, they haven't tried something like the Evo that will activate buttons with the slightest of contact.
Hopefully an update will fix it.

Have to say though: I love the swype!
Sent from my Atrix 4G
I, too, came from an iPhone 4.... and the only issue i find is that i seem to make a fair bit more typos than i remember on the iPhone 4. Then again.... i don't find the Atrix auto-correcting much of anything... let alone the most annoying crap.
Sensitivity seems just fine to me. If you can launch an app with just enough of a touch that you barely feel yourself actually touching the screen.... i'd say it's doing quite well with the sensitivity.
Yes this is exactly what I mean. I came from the captivate with 2.2 cognition installed. I was very proficient at typing on that. This thing doesn't seem to be as accurate to pick up my letter taps. REALLY hope the update fixes that and the fact that it doesn't play MP4's like it's supposed to.
No... i think it's accurate.... it just doesn't have any form of auto-correct. It has the same style of keyboard as the iPhone, in that you can slide to the proper letter... which i think is where some of my typos are coming from. Finger is not quite off the phone before i move to the next letter.
I'm not sure that I feel the same way; there are times where I don't even feel my finger touch the screen and I'm getting feedback.
Very responsive and accurate for me. However, it did take me a few hours to get used to typing on the keyboard.

Bumping this because I'd like to see if others have this issue also.
I have found the Atrix to be extremely responsive while typing--everything except for the space bar. I can literally hover my finger just above a letter and it will register, but there is something about the space bar that only seems to give me issues from time-to-time (intermittent problem?).
I'm using the stock keyboard in portrait view.

It doesn't exist in the market. It has to come on your device or you need to find one that works on the Iconia. I don't know of one that does work.
You don't need it on iconia. Dragging across such a large screen is impractical.
Try hacker's or thumb keyboard.
thunbs or tablet keyboard
OK I tried this illusive swype keyboard.to be honest I do not get the fuss.thumbs keyboard is much better .there are alot programmable keys at top I put them to numbers. Then there is the built in micro feature.saves so much typing. Tablet keyboard also has nice split design and top roll_number keys I sugest thumbs
Thumbs.is worth the money

There's also Slide-IT. Tried it but it wasn't very easy to use on the tablet. I really like the thumb keyboard (as I still have all my thumbs.) I used the toolbar at the top to add common symbols like and other keys that aren't available on the keyboard itself: / - _ ' Esc | Home End Del.... etc
toolbar on thunbs and thumb tack
I used the top toolbar to add number keys to easky reach. Small hands only thing I wish the center section numbers could be programed.to maybe something similar to the bar on top
I have all my fingers.
They have bright pink nails today too bad my tab is not same color
Bohooooo
how do you program the 'top bar' as yall are describing for the thumbs keyboard?
thanks!
assigning keys
Long press on one of the blank keys.
click edit bindings then choose what you like
save the key
Just a note if you do not see the blank keys next to the right hand space bar is a keypad turn the function key roll on and off
Hope this helps.
Such a awesome keyboard you could not ask for much more

oh sorry it's not swype and ?
it's a Swype Type keyboard.
that id bring this back up for the swype beta for honeycomb, it works very well. Also has an option to use a phone sized keyboard for typing with one thumb. much easier to use.
Here you can get it:

It works on my Iconia
This works wonderfully!
Although, this is a lot of screen to swype over!

Just installed it. I've had it on my Samsung Omnia II and use it exclusively on my phone. The implementation on the tablet is great. It will become my primary input method on here as well.

Anyone Else hate the button placement?

I just got my Note last week, and I never realized how often I hold the tablet right in the middle. The buttons are constantly in the way or getting pressed. When I tried to switch holding it on the sides the bezels are so thin that my palm keeps touching the screen. I originally loved the slim bezels, but not so much anymore. Anyways I've started using my tablet upside down now, and it seems to have fixed my problem.
Anyone else experienced this?
Coming from a HP Touchpad, I've come accustomed to on-screen buttons and a single home button. I would love a rom control/mod to turn off the backlight buttons. I have the on-screen navigation bar in the cleanrom and love it. Especially for when using the tablet in portrait mode.
I feel your pains. Button placement is bad. I'm annoyed by the backwards volume buttons the most. Especially when shooting for recovery.

I noticed this problem from day 1. I bought this tablet because of the Spen. I can fill out invoices and make notes. I can then hand the tablet to the customer for their signature. But every time they started signing their name they would press one of the buttons. So now I always hand them the tablet up side down. Works great this way.
So far its not been a problem for me at all but I have to admit i very rarely hold my tablet as its always propped up or on my lap.

The palm rejection from the app I use is good for that. Its not input from the screen that is the problem. Its accidentally pressing the home, back or menu button.

Never mind it does disable capacitive buttons but that's not a good enough reason for me to root. Its working fine the way it is.
Yep, I hate it too!

Just a note about the S Pen (pun intended)

So the other day I was using the S Pen to type out a text when I noticed that it was acting funny. I would get double letters and buttons on the keyboard would register while just hovering over the screen. I was getting very frustrated and couldn't figure it out. People online said to try to re-calibrate it or smack it a bunch of times.
So after getting nowhere from smacking the heck out of it, I realized that the S Pen doesn't function well with 3rd party keyboards.
I had installed the Google Keyboard and was using that. As soon as I switched to the the stock Samsung keyboard the pen functioned perfectly.
This may be common knowledge to some, but I just thought I'd give others a heads up, in case this is their first time using an S Pen, like it is mine.
Working fine with swiftkey
