My rooted nook color doesn't play any notification sounds. I only used manual nooter on my 1.2 nook, updated all the apps and installed a bunch too. I can't figure it out. I used root explorer to check out OnTheHunt.ogg and it plays fine. Games play sounds fine. Settings show notification volume on max. My volume is on max. It is not muted.
Example - Gmail won't play notification sounds. Settings in there are ON. My test with Gmail Notifier produced same results. Tried changing the ringtone too. Any thoughts?
I'm having the same issue, and tried a ton of different apps with no success. Also scoured the web for a solution but haven't even stumbled across anyone else with this prob until now.
Audio Won't sound!
I too have the sae problem:-
My XDA Atom wont play ANY sounds! But the settings show that the volume is maximum. However, when I turn on the radio sound plays on all the applications except the calls. Any solutions?
same problem, no answers...
Have the exact same problem. Spent days searching the internet and no answer. No one seems to have this problem either.
Re-flashed original Nook 1.3 firmware, de-registered device and cleared all data, registered device, updated to 1.4.2, and rooted Nook. Should be a complete clean install, but notifications don't work in Talk or GMail. In the settings in "Notification settings" the "Select ringtone" is grayed out. I can select a ringtone anyway, but still doesn't work. Everything else works perfectly, Google Play... software installs, etc.
All I want is to send messages to my wife's nook and chime when a new message comes in. That's the whole reason I rooted this Nook.
If someone might check if they receive audible alerts with new "gmail" / "talk" messages that would be helpful.
Thanks!

Ive got an o2 xda mini on pay and go. When you send a txt or complete a call it pops up saying how much credit you have. It ALWAYS plays the message tone, regardless if its in silent/vibrate etc.
I HAVE done the hack to remove the msg sent item and that has worked, however i still get this second seperate notification after sending a text.
I HAVE also done done the hack to remove notifications that still doesnt work i still always get the message notification
anybody got any ideas? Thanks
You can always do a hard reset, and soft reset once your mda begins to install customizations. Then from there can manually install the cabs you need.
Most likely the balance notification was a cab customization. I don't use o2, so I wouldn't know the name of it, maybe someone else does.
Is there any way to locate and uninstall the software without doing a hard reset. Ive only just got my xda setup with all the programs/settigns etc i want.
I dont think the service credit popup messages are anything to do with the installed software because i did a hard reset and then did not install the o2 software but it still gave me the annoying message every time.
Nope, it's a "Flash SMS" (google it!). I had this problem too, the only solution I found was to put my thumb over the speaker, and clamp the thing between my legs!
No its nothing to do with the software on the phone. it's a network operation so only O2 can turn it off.
Apparently if you ring them up they can turn it off no problem. See here

I spent quite some time trying to figure out how to at least turn off the sound and I just now figured out a way...
I used ActiveSync to explore to \windows under 'My Device' and copied notify.wav to my desktop. I then used an audio editor to make it silent and copied it back.
Now when I get the notifications it still plays the notify.wav but it is silent. You could change it to any sound you wanted but at least it doesn't make the notify.wav even with the phone on mute.
Hope that helps someone...
I have BA with Xplode's WM6 ROM installed and i have installed HTC Home plugin some weeks ago i found something strange: whenever i sync (i use calendar sync) it changes from vibrate (my default "ring") to sound on.
Also when a calendar reminder appears, it does not vibrate as i have select it but rather plays a sound.
I've never noticed this problem before installing HTC Home.
I've searched and found this threads with similar problems, sometimes the oposite, changing from ring to vibrate, whenever changing something on calendar, but with other phones:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1994550
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=358701
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/ppc-6800-xv6800/90241-htc-home-plug-vibrate-bug.html
It seems that there is some problem with HTC Home + Calendar/Reminder and vibrate / ring options.
Is anyone experiencing the same ? Any solutions ?
JP
I'm experiencing the exact same problem, but I cannot find a solution. I posted it in the ROMeOS forum for the Kaiser and no one had any ideas there. I didn't have this problem with stock. It is 100% reproducible on my device. I leave mine on vibrate 24 hours a day all of the time, however I started noticing (after flashing) that many times my phone would adjust to ring from vibrate. I realized if I ever changed appointment settings (even if I open an appointment, change the time, change it back, and hit ok), it will automatically change from vib to ring. My phone still vibrates whenever there are events coming up, but so far my phone hasn't gone off in any meetings yet :-/
When googling I found this similar post at ppcgeeks: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=190440
Still not much info there, someone mentions some fixes but doesn't say anything more about them.
I tried turning the "Reminder" under Sounds & Notifications settings to not include a "ring" option (unchecked it) and now I can edit calendar events without it changing to ring.
Thanks, i will try it.
JP
Eh I changed the time of a calendar entry today and after hitting ok, it changed the ringer back on :-/ Sorry I must have had a tard moment earlier.
Jason
It happens to me sometimes that creating a new appointment won't change vibrate/ring settings, but shifting an appointment will.
But that doesn't always happens, oddly.
What happens all the time is that when synchronizing with Outlook calendar, it will always switch to ring.
JP
Syncing w/ my outlook calendar does this too. This is getting annoying enough to almost want to go back to a rom from AT&T :-/ I have been searching and searching and I haven't found a solution yet.
Jason
Looks like HTC Home might be the culprit. There is supposedly a fix:
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/ht...ugin-all-icons-coloured-clocks-1-package.html
although I defined all alert sounds (sms, email. missed calls etc.) to give an alert still when I receive any of the above the phone is silent. need to mention that I chose a different alert than the default (different sound)
any ideas?

Hello!
I have had the same problem after I updated to the next available rom provided by HTC.
I have tried several things and experimented with the different sound formats.
I noticed that I still got a sound alert in standby mode for my mail account and wondered why I didn't get the same for my sms.
Like you I customized my sounds with soundfiles from the internet (like effects and stuff that I copied directly to the \windows\rings directory .) And I noticed a big difference between the sound I used for sms (WAV) and the sound I used for mail (mp3).
So just for the fun of it I tried converting my WAV file to Mp3 because I couldn't find the same sound file in that format.
And what do you know... problem solved...
I yet again recieve sound notification in standby mode for sms.
I don't know if this is something that occures due to the upgraded rom but it works for me.
Maybe it's an idea you'd like to try. I was very frustrated by this problem and spent an entire evening on trying to fix it. So I have invested a lot of time.
Maybe it helps you to.
Goodluck,
Joey
solved by upgrading rom
the opposite happened to me when i upgraded the rom and now the defualt sounds are playing for everything.
so what I do is just leave the default sound and won't choose other sounds since i dont know if itll remain ok or itll go mute again and I don't fell like hard reseting again...
thanks anyway for your help - I'll remember your offer if ill need it
and by the way, mp3 ringtones that i added are working fine..
check out the new update on HTC's site it is specifically for this problem!
Since I've installed the latest RCs and recently the final, I haven't been able to use a custom ringtone for calls. Strangely enough, I can select it and have it set. Notification ringtones work too, but when I recieve calls it always rings with a generic default ring. I've tried several different programs: Handcent, Ringo Pro, System, etc and none of them will get it to work. I downloaded Zedge but I can't find the ringtone with it. I also read somewhere that deleting a file called .nomedia will also fix it, but I can't find that either. Any ideas?
So noone else knows then? It seems like I'm not the only one with this problem.
I got a similar problem, but mines just vibrate with no sound. And it only does it for the phone calls. Everything else works fine. Haven't had any help yet!
Hi all
I have searched everywhere and I can't find anybody else with this issue... I surely can't be the only one...?
Since updating my Nexus 6P to Oreo I appear to have some apps not show a notification icon or anything in my notification drop down menu. My phone will vibrate as normal but my screen will not show any notifications...
This happens for Outlook (I will receive a normal notification and email preview on my Huawei watch running 2.0 but nothing at all on phone apart from its vibration), FotMob (a goal alert service if anyone is unfamiliar with it) and even push notifications on Facebook (to name a few). WhatsApp and text messages, for example, are working as normal.
I have reset all my notification and permissions settings TNA and even uninstalled and reinstalled the troublesome apps. Same result
Is this just apps not being fully supported for 8.0 or is this a different issue?
I really don't want to resort to a factory reset...
Thanks in advance
The most important thing i hate about Oreo .. is that Power notification control is missing the is so important for me!!

How were the apps installed? If you restored them through Titanium Backup, the device id for GCM push notifications will be wrong.
Uninstall, clear cache, then install the app from the play store.
Hi krs360
The apps were installed through play store. I am running fully stock, unrooted Android 8.0
Thanks
I have the same problem. Gmail is set to blink the notification light - but it doesn't! Argh!

There is something sketchy about oreo notification. Sometimes the LED simply doesn't blink at all , sometimes it simply blink very very slow.
Aquamail works fine
Gmail also doesn't pop up with a notification when the screen is off. But aqua mail does, and the notification light also works.
I think I found the answer to this. Basically it's a change in the SDK that requires the app author to fix. (I know, I just discovered the same problem in apps I wrote.)

Nothing quite so heartbreaking than to find a singular post/thread on the internet from someone having the same issue as you, only to discover that no solution has been posted and that it's old.
For what it's worth, having the same exact issue. Phone updated OTA a few weeks ago, and at first I was having the battery drain issue but that seemed to get fixed during the patch update, but now I've noticed that Outlook Calendar reminders, as well as Facebook Messenger App Notifications (new messages) no longer make a sound and/or show up as a notification on my phone. This is extremely annoying/difficult especially with Outlook as I have a really terrible time keeping things straight or organized, so I rely pretty heavily on the calendar reminders I set in it for daily/weekly/monthly things.
I could be wrong but I think it's related to notification lights.I wasn't getting anything until I turned it on and suddenly I was.
Hi,
Has anyone come across the solution for this issue? I have had it for over a month now and I really don't understand what the issue could be.
same issue with OREO (ZUK Z2 PRO)
also cannot edit permissions because it doesn't handle a device with plenty apps installed (+800) it hangs and crash / go back to main menu without letting you edit anything in options
