i have have rooted htc wildfire and have installed CM7.1.
can any1 pl guide me how to over clock the CPU.
after entering cyanogen-mod settings>performance>CPU setting, i have min CPU frequency which is currently 352 MHz and max CPU frequency which is currently 528MHz. do i need to change them directly or do i need any kernel for this?
regards.
Just change the values. CM7 comes with an OC kernel preinstalled.

which values are best for Minimum and maximum CPU frequency.
I read 691 max 160 min but it's not law.
where are the experts
pl guide what is the best minimum and maximum CPU speed that i should set to get maximum performance from wildfire.
It all depends on you and your preferences.
If you're playing games use 729 as max
If you want max battery use 480 as max.
352 is a good minimum overall.

Please find the SetCPU thread under XDA Forums, HTC Dream: G1 > G1 Apps and Games. Or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
It's an app for you to overclock your wildfire with custom rom. Download the latest one, send it to your phone's SD, install the apk using Astro or other file managers. The app includes On demand, based on how much MHz you currently need. It is free, but you could donate to the producers of the app. I'm now currently running on 710Max/245Low On Demand. Pretty sweet app.
Well Min 480 and Max 729 ... if u want performance!! (M using the same)

Anyone tried it yet?
I'm browsing through the market apps under the search "root" and I'm seeing a couple overclocking apps. Particularly SetCPU and Overclock widget, the latter being a free app.
I'm kinda nervous about what clock speeds the Hero will tolerate. I don't want to risk bricking my phone!
The "free" app on market won't let me clock it past 528. I don't think there is an app per se that can jack it over that speed.

Yup i used another app to set it to 575, but the highest it went was 528. actually it was only like 526.XX
The Overclock Widget didn't work at all.
The widgets on the market are bound by the min and max clock values compiled into the kernel I believe.
There's maybe a kernel interface in /sys/ somewhere where you can echo in a clockspeed, but I haven't found it yet.
As for the max it would support? The G1/2 were throttled ~350 if I remember, but it was on this processor, which supported 528mhz, allowing for crazy clock speeds at the expense of battery life.
No idea if this proc will really support anything much over that, you'd be getting into 'true' overclocking territory there, and the potential for damage to the phone would be significantly increased.
[edit]
The usual /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/ directory exists, but it doesn't look like you can just set a speed there in the 'normal' linux fasion:
Code:
# echo 540000 > cpuinfo_max_freq
cannot create cpuinfo_max_freq: permission denied
just download the set cpu or overclock widget
on set cpu activate profiles and make it so its 528 max and 528 min when the screen is on..and 245 max 128 min when the phone is sleeping
here is the free version of set cpu

Do you think you could try it and see? I would like to use this, providing it works. Im stuck at work though and cant really play with my phone too much to try it out.
im trying it now ill let you know

I'm at work as well and kinda need my phone for stuff or else I'd be tinkering away.... but when I get home I'll see if it's working or not...
*NOTE* i r dumb in the ways of overclocking so I won't be able to fix code to get this to work
It seems to work when i put it on the slowest my phone goes alot slower and when i set it higher it goes faster but it will also decrease battery performance

Very cool! I wonder what a good balance between more power with not too much more battery drain would be.
Can't get it to work
Can't get it to work
When I start the app I can see the two bars:
Min is 528 and
Max is 528 as well
I adjust the Minbar to 128 and click
"Set to it!"
Display notification:
"Set new clock successfull"
When I start the app again: No change at all, still
Min is 528 and
Max is 528
Display icon always shows:
527
Any advise?
Thanks
Is their any way to get the overclock to 768 while running the stock hero?
I have mine rooted of course, but I'm limited to 528mhz with setcpu.
Is their anyway to flash something so that max can be lifted?
Thanks.

Here princess.
Also..
Both include setcpu.txt for Setcpu OC app.. Select "custom" at the very bottom for device. Do not select hero. Or you can select "Auto Detect" at the top, this does not need the setcpu.txt.
*damage537.zip* 537mhz is the default.. scalable to 768 if you use an OC'ing app
*damage768.zip* 768mhz default clock speed -read below
*damage710.zip* 710mhz default clock speed -read below
Both can be scaled from 19.2 to 768mhz..
DAMAGE710--The damage710 will default 710mhz, you must use an OC app to scale it to 768. Use damage710 if your phone can not boot the 768mhz. And dont scale any higher then 710mhz or your phone might reboot.
DAMAGE768--If your phone can boot the 768mhz then either download will work. But if you dont want to use an OC'ing app then the damage768 will scale to 768mhz.

well just incase it wasnt gone over , in order to overclock you need a kernel that has been modified to do this. there are several on this forum for the 2.1.
On a side not there is the god kernel that can both be run with or with out the overclocking apps.
I actually beleive the best performance is from the 710 kernel with out an overclocking widget. the widgets seem to introduce lag till they set the clock this is a major annoyance when the phone is woke for an incomming call.
Do a nand backup and test for your self.
kernels located here

Thanks for the info guys.
I flashed the 710 one ontop of my stock 2.1 rom.
Now I'm looking at the green HTC logo with white background. It hasen't changed for 10 minutes. I think its stuck. Should I be worried?

Download the rar and extract. Its under /data/apps
Hi,
After a recent thread about overclocking with scripts, I started looking at my CPU speed. In SetCPU the speed changes (read: toggles) between my max and min setting, while System Panel shows a large variety of speeds between my max and min setting, according to demand.
Is system panel just more accurate? or is it dividing the max freq by the CPU load? Is actual CPU frequency the same as max freq divided by CPU load?
Thanks for any info you can give me.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
System panel probably just updates faster then setcpu.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
Seems likely.
Here is a good wiki article on this
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_frequency_scaling?wasRedirected=true
It seems like if I was using scripts that I'm only getting dynamic frequency scaling with scripts as opposed to dynamic voltage scaling, which I would need a new kernel for?
Maybe I'll start a new thread...

Which are the best cpu and memory settings for x8?
Wich rom do u use?
If is minicm, you can easily go to, 729 or 748 mhz with no reboots, smooth and stable

Which is the best app?
You must test which frequency is best for you because every processor is different. One can run on 729 MHz without problems but other can't. You can use CPU Master or SetCPU from Market or other apps
but no need to use 3rd party apps if using miniCM, since you can change OC in cyanogenmod settings
and it's just as dbts25 said, every cpu is slightly different, some people can't even overclock cpu to 614 mhz, and some can go over 800...
i prefer using 691 or 710, these two are pretty stable for me, and my limit is 729 - i can't go higher no matter how much i try - the phone reboots immediately
i'd recommend you to check it yourself, and when you find a good, stable frequency, reduce it by 19 mhz - you'll propably have less reboots, if any at all it's more secure to do so in my opinion.
hi, i have the last pc fighter rom, which is based on cm, so i can overlock the phone with that settings
but i wanted to know which are the risks of it
and how do i do it
i mean, the min frequency is at 245 and max at 600, if i put the next higher frequency, do i need to put a higher min frequency too?
is there a rule or something while doing this? i mean, if i high something, i high/low another thing, and stuff ?
would be nice if you could tell me
i want to play smooth on fpse, thingh that i could get with an overlock
thank you!

Just get setcpu and do what ever you like. Play around with the frequency until you find it unstable
or there are lots of free overclock apps out there but setcpu has the best interface
No need for external app, increse max in small steps to see what is your cpu max, when you found max stabile speed enable set on boot and that is it.

Hi guys I'm new on xda and I'm really sorry if I post this thread in the wrong place.
I found a method last year with I think we can overclock/underclock our MTK devices. No custom kernel or ROM is required but the problem is that the CPU can't be overclocked.Only the GPU and other components like RAM and internal memory.
All you need to do is to install a MTK Engineering app from Google play store.
After that go to /hardware testing/DE-sense/PLLs - you will get to a menu with some different PLLs
ARM PLL - is CPU ( but can't be overclocked )
MM PLL - is the GPU ( it's safe to OC )
I don't know about other PLLs , I don't think is safe to OC them and you will not get any boost in performance.
There are the default PLLs values for my MT6582 device ( all clock speeds are in khz )
ARM PLL=1092000
MM PLL=500500 max / 266000 min
MSDC PLL=416000
MAIN PLL=1092000
VENC PLL=295750
UNIVI PLL=1248000
The best OC values for GPU are 315 MHz minimum frequency and 518 MHz maximum frequency, the minimum possible underclock frequency is 245 MHz minimum and 450 MHz maximum
From my tests I got a 10-15 fps boost in PSP emulators and 5-10 fps boost in 3D games (real racing 3,asphalt 8,modern combat 4) and benchmarks (antutu 5,gfx bench)
Here are the default clock frequencys for MT6589
ARM PLL=1508000 max / 754000 min
MAIN PLL=884000 max / 500000 min
MM PLL=338000 max / 286000 min
UNIV PLL=624000
MSDC PLL=208000
Here is the YouTube link, check it if you haven't understand this tutorial : https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wY_i3u_Wu4w
Anyway I need an expert opinion to tell me what the other components are.
Attention !
- overclock can harm your hardware
- please make sure that you can remove your phone's battery because if you put a wrong value your screen can get stuck ! But if you are lucky your device will reboot
- make sure your device is rooted and you know your default clock speeds
- Do not try to OC any other components, only GPU is safe to OC
- I'm not responsible for any damage to your phone
I can't post this thread elsewhere because I'm not allowed even if I have more than 10 posts, admins please if you find this useful move it to a good location
very interesting. i want to try this on my unite3 lollipop with SoC 6582. but before that i want to ascertain default values for MMPL which i could not find when opened in engineeing mode. will you pls reply how to find default values.

Edit: whether values stick even aftet reboot and how to check it has overclocked or else.
Sorry for so late response but I don't have a mediatek phone anymore. Anyway so no you can't see what are the defualt values in mmpl but you have to find out your gpu clock speeds ( the maximum freq like 600 mhz and the minimum one, which the gpu idles at like 120 or 200 mhz). If you say that you have a mt6582 phone your maximum freq should be 500 MHz and you could try a 533 MHz overclock. Only big problem at this gpu trick is that we can't change the voltage also,so an stable oc will be very small. I reccomend to oc that idle freq which I don't know why this mali 400 uses it even in games making them lag. So try to oc that 200 MHz to 300 MHz,but don't go higher because the kernel will think that you want to change the max 500 MHz freq so the performance will get worse. First set something like 303000 and after 515000.These are some ideal valuse which I've tested by myself. Sorry for my bad english and greetings from Romania.
how about mt6750?
Wont work on my nokia 3 TA-1032
Sorry, this is a late reply but i dont know why it says "Fail to enter De-Sense PLLs module" when i tap PLLs.
There is no de sense pill option in mtkengineering mode on my device mt6761 android 8.1
