[Q] Missing SNID and SN code - Acer Iconia A500

Need help...
after many roms and kernels, finally I got a well working 3.1 stock with the richardtrip kernel.
The problem is: under device information I've SNID and SN fields empty.
I don't know how to insert the correct info here, but more than this I'd like to know if this could be the reason I can no more install anything from the market. I mean, I can install apps from the tablet market, but I can't form my pc the way I used to do before. Simply the apps chosen from my pc are not getting to my tablet.
I've also to say that in the market, under my profile, I already have 3 devices in the list (but they are always the only one I have) I've tried to hide one of them at a time, but no luck...
Any suggestion?
Anyone of you people know how to remove previous devices from the market profile, cause I hadn't find any procedure to achieve this...
TIA

If you have taken the time to read the forum (or at least the stickies) you would have known that ONLY the stock kernel with stock rom will show you the SNID and SN!

uh.. I'm spending several hours a day fetching this great forum, I'm really sorry if I gave you the impression I hadn't searched before, but that's it... certainly I missed something within these endless threads and posts.
In any case, thanks for your answer.

Custom KERNEL seems not supporting the SN and SNID
but if you return to a stock kernel you will get them back
and really with all respect.... the post you are trying to say you cannot find is on PINNED 3rd line...

oops.. no clue in the title, no results searching threads and posts using "snid" as the keyworkd... I was sure I've read before something about it, and I wanted so badly to find those info once again... so I asked... sorry, really... and thanks both of you, I'll be more stubborn in my searches in the future

The one-click root works on the AT&T version. You will need to sideload the apk file using ADB or Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine (SWM). There are several threads here discussing this. Try doing a search of this forum.
wow not much help
Somd people get errors when using the sideloder and dont even get me started on just try fixing the error or googleing it.
It sucks that such a forum exists and people arent willing to help there to lazy since they already got the help they needed and dont wana contribute since.there are users also having the same frustrations they once had!
people just dont want to have to answer the same questions over and over again when a simple search would turn up the answer.
So far I think this forum has pretty much answered every problem ive had with my x10 and its usually already been answered and I havent had to start a new thread.
thing is some people arent that computer savy and really would like to get the most of their phone without screwing anything up and i mean all this apk and sdk and seus ect... can get some people confused if it could get all tied up into one simple explanation that could do it also theres thousands of threads on this forum having to do with rooting i dont think one has enough time to be looking over every single one of these threads it is pretty DREADDDDFULLLLLLL
IF you need help rooting PM i will gladly help you out

There is a post in the Q/A section where I posted how to fix the issue where the phone isn't detected. I'm pretty new to android myself, but I've been in IT for going on close to 15 years now, so if I don't know exactly how to fix it I sure as hell can figure it out. The best way I've found to get SWM (it's really adb that's detecting the phone) to see it is by removing the sdk if you have it (just the 1.6 files), uninstalling the driver from device manager, and redownload the 1.6 files for the sdk. I've done it a number of times and it's worked every single time.
I don't think I have full root though, but all I really needed root for was to remove the at&t apps. I used SWM to sideload the exploid one-click root apk (x10root), ran that to get the SuperUser app, then downloaded Titanium from the market to remove the AT&T apps.

Radio's and SLPL

Hi, the title says it all, i just want to know what a radio & a SLPL is? Yes i'm a n00b, and there i have no shame in calling myself that becuase everyone starts from somewhere. Looking forward to learning, so hopefully someone can help me.
I've made this thread because i'm looking to put the 'Ginger Yoshi' rom on the HTC Magic, and it says you will need the new radio, and some SLPL? Also how do you put these on the phone, & where you download it from? Thanks

Welcome to XDA forums! I'm just a fellow member, but I still want to welcome you here
First, do you know if you have a 32A or 32B device? You have posted that you have a Desire S - do you have both that and Magic? Be sure to read everything you can about rooting and Android in general before trying to install new software on it. You see, I managed to brick my Magic without learning enough before action!
Secondly, CyanogenMod Wiki is a great resource for checking out what all these things mean. See it here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Terminology
For example, answers to your question:
SPL
Second Program Loader, in conjunction with the IPL comprise a device's bootloader. Aside from bootstrapping Android, the bootloader also fulfills various diagnostic functions. One of these functions is the manipulation of data in the device's internal flash ram. Depending on the SPL installed, the user might be able to flash signed NBH files, flash nand images, and more. Note that the SPL is installed and operates independently of the Android build that runs atop it. Generally speaking, there are two variants of the SPL: Stock, which is 'locked' and is installed on most devices from the factory, and Engineering, which is 'unlocked' and has to be manually flashed - usually after 'rooting'.

That's an AWESOME price! I bought mine for £150 last summer!
But to the point - have you gotten any useful information out of the CM wiki? XDA Wiki has great articles, too, but it isn't as fulfilling. With ambition and good resources, you'll learn what you need fast and possibly in a week or a few days you can be able to take care of ROM flashing, customizing your phone a lot more deeply than changing a few settings, getting full access (that people should always have) to your phone's all capabilities and even using it as a WiFi box!
Oh, and if you find anything here on the forums useful or good, press the thanks button. You have 5 clicks a day for it. That's a good way to show the poster appreciation so they can see their work worthful
You've got to take into account it's 2 years old now, plus i got it used of ebay ;( - Oh and CyanogenMod have stopped supporting it.
SO do you think it's worth £37, or should i just say no, or sell it off when it comes? I'm confused at the moment, because CyanogenMod have stopped supporting it so i don't know what to do, and also don't know if it's worth the money i paid for it.

Once you've got past root and recovery, you then can change spl/radio according to your desired rom.

IMO it very well is. A good device with decent hardware, especially for the price.
They've stopped supporting it only OFFICIALLY, but there are still many development working on it for Magic, and there are a few good ROMs - like Ginger Yoshi, Carz12's CyanogenMod 7.1 and of course SebastianFM's HTC Sense ROM.
Read, read, read. Mdacompactuser posted a good link
Cheers everyone. Hopefully we can all think that's it a 'mission' & work together on this . Right i've learnt that i can root the phoen via superoneclick, and get the superuser access. Ok next i was going to do everything via rom manager, however now that option is basically gone for me, as CM are not supporting it, but i can flash the recovery from there. I have chosen clockwork recovery, so flashing it via rom manager should be good. I'll have a look at the link you sent me, and hopefully we can regenerate interest in this device again, and make it gain popularity, so we can be on the official forum boards, instead of the low activity devices. That's the plan, everyone up for it? xD>

If you look in this forum alone, you'll find everything you need to carry out a rom update. As Kanttii pointed out its crucial you know what your phone is before you do anything. I'd stick to guides found on this forum as opposed to ones found elsewhere on the web, simply because the people who wrote the guides on here are more likely to respond to specific queries you may have.
I have to say I found mumilovers posts very complete and useful, so personally I'd start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756918
and then go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=824435
Obviously there are other methods, but like I said before, a guide is much better when the author is around to help when you get something wrong or something doesn't make sense to you.
Thanks the phone will probably come today through the post, so i'll read the threads you sent me links to, and hopefully i'll be able to understand most of it . Thanks again .
Wow i managed to also root my phone without bricking it, and installed clockwork mod recovery. I downloaded set cpu, but i'm on default android 2.2 so i can't overclock it. Now i'm confused about how to put a custom rom on it.
EDIT: Right now i'm a bit scared to install custom rom on it, but i got a question:
In rom manager, when i go to the download section, i see a rom called Roalex, is that a good one?
The top one on that is called: COS-DS-071822011_I1? SO if i click install on that will it be a good one?

Problems with AOKP ROM for Acer A500

I recently flashed AOKP Milestone 4 to my Acer Iconia A500 Tab. I had problems with the power button rebooting instead of sleeping. This was fixed by disabling crt animations.
When I plug it into my PC, the driver is not found. I tried downloading and re-installing the driver, but no luck. It worked fine before I flashed the ROM.
Any help is much appreciated!

You should probably post your issues at the Warez site where you downloaded the rom.
With concern to your issue, it's because that portion of the rom doesn't work. Mainly because they (Kang) can't figure it out. It's what happens when you cut and paste other developers code, claiming it as your own.
At best, you can get Google's ADB driver package and communicate with the tab via adb.
But hey, at least their added "donations" menu in the Settings works! Probably the only thing that does

Well, seems I gave you the answer already, and you're being so rude, then you may find your answers somewhere else. Or you can report me to the Mods, and explain why you can't get better help on Warez.
Like I said earlier, your best is with ADB device drivers. But suppose you didn't read that part?
On a side note, I have no issue with Thor, and get along with him quite well.

The solution is simple, use a proven quality ROM rather than one "kanged" from other developers that has several known serious problems.

[MINI GUIDE] Easiest Soft Brick Escape - For the Desperate User

Over the internet there are various guides teaching the lesson 'how to get out of a soft brick.' Some guides can be hard to follow and very hoarse leaving a noob feeling like he/she has destroyed their device. Fear Not.This is a comprehensive guide for less experienced users who happen to find themselves in a soft brick.
Dictionary - Soft brick - the phone can still boot, and be flashed easily but in its current state is unusable.
- Hard brick - the phone cannot boot and requires additional devices to do so (USB Jig, Riffbox).
This is the quickest escape route on the interweb and you will be done in no time. Here we go:
First Download Flashtool. Here (You may download any version from the previous versions tab.)
Install Flashtool.
Find the stock firmware for your device. For the x8
E15i android 2.1.1 http://www.multiupload.com/VKNI6Q6ET5 (2.1.1.C.0.0 latest firmware)
Dictionary - stock firmware - latest version of software released by the manufacturer
After downloading the firmware. Extract the file. You will be left with a firmware file with .ftf as the ending.
Go into 'my computer' then 'flashtool' folder then 'firmware'. Then copy the .ftf file into that folder.
Close the folder.
Now to make sure that your phone is recognized by flashtool, go into computer then flashtool then drivers.
Now Install the driver for the x8.
Connect your x8 to your computer.
open the Flashtool program.
Click the bolt icon in the top left.
Select the name of the firmware you downloaded (2.1.1.C.0.0) in the left panel. it will highlight blue.
Click ok (bottom right).
A box will appear telling you to put your device into flash mode. Follow the instructions it gives.
Once this is done the box will dissapear and firmware will flash.
Finally device will reboot and phone will be back to normal.
Congratulations you have unbricked your device.
I hope you found this useful. Please thank me using the button if you appreciate my efforts. #
This is my first guide. Tell me what you think. Anything I could improve.
Very good guide, cause didn't know yet about this..very thanks..

nice and quick guide, i guess that what a paniced newbie search for!
suggestion:i think you should add about the installation of drivers,as many users come here telling that their phones is not recognized by flashtool
also change the 4-noobs at the title, is kidda disturbing...put "for" instaid of 4
There is about 100 threads about that. Just color of text and size is diferent!

Thankyou for everyone's support. I have changed the '4' to 'for' in the title as suggested by stamatis16.
also
As someone who studied psychology, I know that people learn in very different ways. A guide from someone else may not help a certain person. Different fonts evoke different responses and speeds of learning. Different colours do similar things too. So in response to the 'there are millions of guides' argument, I say . Everyone learns differently and this may help someone desperate more effectively than any other. I know that when I needed this help none of the guides were as simple as the one I have composed.
In addition to this, please remember, I am spending my personal time to aid others. So negative flaming saying that my posts are 'not really helping' is always a let-down.
Thankyou once again for the support.
Special thanks lyhengboy stamatis16 for comments.
Guys, think of it this way. Its better for someone to make a new thread which will prevent 2000 threads asking the same topic.
Hmm OP can we merge this topic with the existing one with Lucas? You can always PM him for ideas
For now I agree that it is somehow odd to create extra thread for the same purpose for noob knowing that there is already an existing one. Very nice purpose but we need to be organized as well hugs.

I can understand that but I have clearly highlighted in my post before this one why I made a new thread. Please read it if you have not.
Also I would like to have my own 'branding' if you like, of guides and reviews. I try to spice each one up differently to combat that argument.
Thankyou very much for being kind when posting. Sorry if I come across as rude, I do not mean to be this way.
Q:Hmm OP can we merge this topic with the existing one with Lucas? we need to be organized as well
A: I would be very sad if you were to delete or move or zap this thread for the reasons you mention above. I have spent great periods of time composing and tailor making this for certain users. As a RC I hope you can understand my reasoning.
Thankyou once again.
EDIT: I have changed the title to make it seem 'different'. I also want to mention my 'dictionary' feature. I think this is different and may help my argument.
I fully understand you. Thy will be done
Can someone with a soft bricked X8 let me know if its possible to boot into safe mode?
Hold menu when booting.
Thankyou. I was a bit scared when you said you wanted to remove this post and 'merge it with another.' Great to know you are so supportive.
Yes, please do not merge this. I have benefited allot from this post. Merging it I think will take out the time put into to this. Plus, other people may not see this. I am happy the op decided not to merge.

I don't have a soft or a hard brick. But I acknoledge you made a great guide and thank you anyway.
It was also useful because I am still considering if I should root my Galaxy Ace Duos GT-S6802 or not. And this made me realize that even if it bricks, it can be reverted. Do you have any idea if a hard brick is reversible? Also, in worst case scenario, can I simply download the software from samsung site and install it? Thanks. And sorry if I broke any rules here, I'm still a noob (still scared by the introdutory video haha)

[Q] New S5, best setup to remove bloat, root and sim free

hi guys,
just got today an S5 and quite happy with it so far.
I would like to do few things on it, hope you can suggest me the best way:
- get root (Lollipop 5.0, possibly keeping Knox unaltered)
- remove bloatware (especially my magazine)
- make it sim free, I belive is locked to the operator, got it on contract
can you please recommend what's best for doing those 3 things?
thanks a lot,
Gabrio

If you really had been looking for the last 2 hours, my dear sir, surely you would have noticed the stickied threads which answer all of your questions. One particular thread will even tell you that these kind of posts don't belong here in "General". Good day to you.
here's a few useful threads to get you started:
General advice: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700073
How to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2696537
If you just want to remove bloat from your current rom, I'd recommend smart debloater: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/development/mod-smart-debloater-t2802034
But if you want a new/customisable rom check out Phoenix rom where you can pick and choose what you flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2741302
To make it sim-free, you'll need to get an unlock code either from your network or maybe off somewhere like ebay.
Hope that helps

thanks so much those are really helpful... if you could help me with one more thing which I found and is really off (again on this model)....I would love to edit the SMS_Candy.apk and disable SMS to MMS conversion after 480 chars or tricky it, I remember on my sgs2 I did a mod and basically increased that to "after 99 SMS convert to MMS" which did the trick nicely. I had a look at the files and it seems more complicated on Lollipop 5.0? do you know by chance? thanks a lot!
TBH, most custom roms will have that mod already included, I think phoenix rom has it
