Publish Your A500 Boot Animation efforts HERE - Acer Iconia A500

OK to start the ball rolling I attach two rather amateurish efforts to encourage all you noobs out there to submit your works of art. In another thread a poster stated he/she didnt like animations taking up the processor's work cycle instead of using all it's horsepower to boot the tablet. I can accept that argument but personally I would prefer to see something happening whilst it's booting. Anyone interested enough to post here will probably be aware of the great animations produced by "gammaRascal" and I can't think of anything better to do, whilst waiting boot, than watching one of his efforts.
If anyone downloads and trys mine I would suggest the following:
(1) Use a file manager such as "Root Explorer" to change the name of the one you are trying to bootanimation.zip
(2) Again use "Root Explorer" to place the file in /data/local
(3) CAUTION - If you are already using a bootanimation.zip then to make certain it is NOT overwritten or deleted, rename your current one to something like bootanimation.zip.old so that you can put it back at your will. Do this before installing mine.
Come on you computer artists get working!

Nice one JaeKar99 - do like your pulsating electric Powercell

Now I am getting the feel for working boot animations for the Iconia. This will be fun.

@JaeKar99 - That's great. This is what I hoped would happen and hopefully others will be challenged to have a go.

Great idea....I only wish I had any talent for this. I do think it's a good idea to give a preview so we can see the animation first. Good work!

@TFordham - You echo my thoughts on this, unfortunately I haven't the slightest idea of how to make the animations viewable - surely someone can help us out here? I have found a program for previewing android boot animations on a PC but as I haven't had a chance to try it yet I can't say whether it will do the job. It's called "Install_bootanimationpreviewer.exe" and I believe it originates from XDA-Developers but I'm not certain which forum, i.e. I think it's a phone forum, definately not an A500 forum.

@TFordham - Further to what I posted earlier I have now tried bootanimationpreviewer.exe and it does reproduce on your PC Desktop the animation which you chose but as it was developed for a phone format and size it doesnt show 80% of the A500 animations which are 1280x800 in my case. I can't find any way to save the preview and it appears to be pretty much a dev's tool. It won't help me with any I make because I preview them on my tablet straight away.

You can download Photoscape, it is free ware and can create an animated gif.. using the images sequenced in your boot animation. The speed and the size can be adjusted. That is what I use.. I will then upload to photobucket and then direct link to the post.
I opt to link them into a post but you can embed them also.
metpolds, here are your boot animations in active gif format embedded:

I´m trying to do a simple BA here, but I have some questions...
is there a minimum number of files to work? I mean, mine cycles trough 6 frames only.
And, do I need 2 folders separating the files?
EDIT: NVM, got it, posting it.

There is no minimum number of files. (other than at least one).. However the fewer the number the more rapid the cycle, and the more choppy the display. This can be remedied by changing the frame rate in the desc.txt file but the fewer the files the harder that will be to make it more fluid. Thus, the more images - the better the flow of the animation.. and the higher the frame rate - the better the flow of animation.
It is not required that you have two folders. You can put all your images in just one folder..
Most boot makers will have the desc.txt file set up to to play the first folder 'part0' just one time then have the second (or third) folder 'part1' run or cycle infinitely; meaning until the device finishes booting up.
Greatest trade off with higher numbers of images is file sizes.. when you start getting larger boot animation files it starts to slow the loading process and then you get choppy animations and lots of lag or it will freeze up..
Wow. Sorry to write a book. Hope this answers your questions.

Just to add a small detail to what JaeKar99 has said about the files getting bigger the more frames that are included, remember that you can only post ".zip" attachments up to 8Mb in size and believe me if you use high def frames and a lot of movement, that size is quickly reached.

@gasparzim - Yo very nice, does what you want. May I make a comment NOT in any sense a criticism because what I am seeing may well be a result of the viewer I am using. I take it that you intended the green bar to be moving left to right throughout the animation, if this is happening for you that's great. For me it is stationary and what I did was to delete part1 leaving just part0 (the 53(?) frames) and changed your desc.txt to read 1280 800 24
p 0 0 part0
Then for me it was perfect the animation ran all the time. But as I said it's probably the fault of my viewer not your animation.

You were right in your original post.. you only needed the 6 frames.. Sorry if I lead you astray from your original intent. I think you have done a splendid job.
Animated gif:
If you so desire you can reduce the size of your boot file to ~ 3 megs.. if you remove all but the first 6 images of part0 and you do not even need part1..

This is my 3rd and last effort for a while, I'm not too impressed with my artistic skills and I think I'd rather sit back and watch other people's anis whilst I sink a pint of the "black stuff" (Guiness to the uneducated!) I actually managed to do a preview this time, hope it works!

EDIT: so, I left only 6 frames, and edited desc.txt removing the part1 line (1280 800 24 p 0 0 part0). But now I got only a black screen... what could be wrong?
EDIT 2: Okay, it was the desc.txt, fixed it now.

Changing the DPI - brings only problems!

You can change the DPI of the display in WM5 by changing the following keys:
HKLM/Drivers/Display/GPE/
LogicalPixelsX
LogicalPixelsY
Using 96 for both should give you what you would expect from upgrading from 320x240 to 640x480 - i.e. 4x as much "screen space."
HOWEVER!
When I choose a LogicalPixelsX (height) value lower than 192 (even 190) apps like Contacts and Calculator refuse to run and various icons & display elements disappear. LogicalPixelsY doesn't seem to make a difference.
Any ideas?
Its just one of those things mate. The VGA hacks all reduce the size to 96dpi that being half of the normal 192. Any other ratio just doesnt seem to wash. A cpl of ppl have had success with 144 (I think). I didnt myself. My sad conclusion is the best solution is to use the .mui file hack to you can at least have apps like Adobe, Pocket Streets, and some games run in true VGA mode.

Hi,
when u change the dpi, u must ensure that the corresponding files are available in your windows directory! Search for *192*.* files in your windows directory....these are resource files built to suit 192 dpi. When you change it to, lets say 96dpi, you must have the same equivalent file *96*.* files, otherwise you'd have missing icons and graphics!
Hope that answers!

No, it was with *any* value below 192, including 96. I tried 96 first.

they are dlls, so you must make sure you've turned "show all files/ system files" option on, else you wont find them!
Anyways, here is a bunch of DLLs for you...(rename them to whatever DPI you want, and copy them into your windows folder).
I've included a Disable certificates cab file, which is needed to make sure windows chooses unsigned files to run....so that the new resource files you provide are accepted by windows....
let me know how it works!
cheers,
S
Wow, thanks! You exceeded my expectations!
I can see the files now, in the first instance I was looking for them on the device instead of with ActiveSync.
Will try it now & let you know how it went...

Thats great, you finally got it working!
You'd have many apps screwed up in vga mode, thats common! For some of the default system apps, there are fixes which you could apply....look around the forum for the words "fixed" & "VGA"....and you should find them.
cheers,
San
PS: Whats with the contact details? I dont remember having a problem there!
What device are you doing this one if you dont mind me asking?
I just noticed the soft blue lights there looks alot cooler then the red menace of the jasjar. Then again I thought the jasjars was good till I saw the blue keyboard backlight so maybe its a case of the grass is greener

In case Osir1s is not aware: the O2 Xda Exec is the exact same device as the iMate JasJar. Except it has a blue keyboard backlight (probably a tiny bit more expensive to make) and a different font on the keys. Oh, and the body is in a really nice matt black. But I keep having to wipe my grubby fingerprints off it with a cloth made for cleaning LCDs.
heh well thanks for the info but yes I tend to do my research before purchasing an expensive gadget so I know about the exec; just hadnt seen a pic of the blue backlight.
I actually was all keen on importing an Exec until I discovered the finish on it. The same with the XDA Atom, the piano black finish ruins it for me. I learnt my lesson with casing like that from the Motorola mpx200. I was forever wiping that thing down.
Will be a cold day in hell when I go back to those days :twisted:
This is my 2nd matt black device, the first was a custom case for a little Samsung A300 which I still have. Arriving in the post soon will be a tiny bluetooth GPS device (which appears to have an accelerometer inside it) which is also matt black.
BTW, speaking of "expensive" - the Exec only cost me about AU$360 (with a ~AU$45/mo contract)
Ooh, I just thought of the ideal accessory for the Universal - remember the "tiny" phone in Fifth Element which looks huge by today's standards? How about a bluetooth "headset" like that? One that you hold to your ear, so it's easier to operate. Probably a good way forward for most mobiles now - if they'd only engineered bluetooth to handle connection with more than one device at a time. Then you could buy different brands of GSM radio, handset, camera, storage, keypad, display and use them all together. No doubt there would be a bluetooth capable iPod which would allow you to store all your contacts alongside your tracks. Oh well, maybe next time.
One problem I still have not being able to solve:
It is quite easy to change the DPI with the method described above (i.e. copying the corresponding .dll's to windows directory and changing the 2 registry entries).
So far so good.
I have however up to now not been able to find a background (*.tsk file) which is large enough for true VGA (except the Windows standard which I don't like).
All the other *.tsk files I am using on VGA 192 display smaller on the true VGA resolution.
Is there a way to increase the size of the *.tsk files ? Couldn't find a graphics editor yet to do that (not even infantview which normally reads almost everything)
Anybody has an idea ?
Cheers
hrb
Yes like most devices you will find the European and Australian versions of expensive are quite different, ie. Until this month infact no Aust. provider has provided the jasjar on a plan, hence these must be purchased out right for $1500 odd dollars, hence I consider that an expensive device.
I suspect even when Vodaphone do offer this device on contract later this month the monthly fee with be the usual $99, although likely with a cap plan so some repreive there; still expensive though.

It doesn't really matter. Threads can meander around the subject and take on side issues from time to time, and I think trying to force them into a channel of The Original Subject can stunt the overall community spirit. It also doesn't do a great deal for ones latteral thinking or creativity to keep so focused. How can you think outside the box if you're locked inside it?

GadgetFreak Taskbars - QVGA

I will be posting all of my QVGA taskbars conversions here in one location. These are all primarily ports of Tsowen's excellent work that I have been assisting with at PPCGeeks. This is going to take a few days as I consolidate everything, clean it up and re-organize. I do have a GSM mod to the block taskbar that I will be posting. Everything else is mainly CDMA, but I will do what I can to help since I no longer have a QVGA device to test things on.
When installing the Taskbars, remember to go in the following order:
1. Backup your device
2. SDKCerts Cab
3. No2Chem Battery Driver
4. Once those are installed, use Total Commander or Resco Explorer (preferred) to make back ups of all the dll's you are about to change by adding .bak to the file name.
5. Use Reso Explorer or TC to add the entire contents of the file folder in the zip to you root \Windows file in main memory
WARNING for QVGA Device Owners: For the Bluetooth Icons to work, you need to have the Opal/Jade Phone Canvas installed for this to work. I have it and all of the files you will need for it to work on a QVGA phone here.
I'm having a hard time getting things loaded up on XDA, so for now, here is the link to my main posting at PPCGeeks. I will get all of this set up and better organized for y'all soon.
One other note, these are for WM 6/6.1 ONLY! They will not work properly if you install them on a 6.5 sys.

I am also including the Opal/Jade Phonecanvas. You will not get the Bluetooth Icons if you do not have this installed. If you are on GSM phone, do not install the Dan's HTC Touch Phone Codes Fix. That is for CDMA users only.
If you choose to install that Dialer, use and advanced task manager to shutdown the cprog function before installing and backup your system.
Install in the following order:
1. Phone Skin Cab
2. SJ Patch (if you want hte slide to answer feature. If you do, make sure you disable that feature in S2US. They don't play well together)
3. Dan's Touch Fix Cab (this fixes the dialer codes and 911)
4. Open the included folder
5. Albert's Phone Canvas Lock Cab
6. Use Resco to copy the loose files into \Windows
If you already have the phonecanvas cooked in (That's the best way...) you don't have to install this.
The MMSRes dll is for you Arcsoft users:
If you are using the Rhodium Notification Manager, there is a cab for you that will skin the signal icons and large notification icons. Do not install this if you are not using a sys of 21000 or above. This will replace the HTC Large Title Bar.
And finally, here is my revolver battery. There are 2 versions, one for 100%, 99, 98, etc. The other goes by 10s. I haven't actually tried this for QVGA yet, so I'll be interested in getting some feedback.

Essentially all you need to do is install the SDKCerts cab, then the no2chem 6800 battery cab, then the taskbar cab of your choice. Just so you know, I have not yet added my GSM mods to the block icons set. That is so far the only one that has the GSM signal icons modded. It's on my list of things to do...

Except for that when I rename phcanOverbmp.dll to phcanOverbmp.dll.bak, my P3600i makes a new phcanOverbmp.dll and then won't allow me to overwrite it with the customised one...
As the files are just overwritten, any chance of getting a cab for each toolbar? It would be much easier than tracking down multiple files and installing in the correct order...

Hey GF. If you need a QVGA device to test things on just let me know My machine is at your disposal. Looking forward to your 6.5 GSM release.

The block taskbar is installed by cab. For what ever reason, XDA keeps blocking the upload of my cab for the Elite TB.

Mega. You gotta get the little one's sorted!
Thanks for your work.
I'm obviously missing something here -
I have installed sdkcerts.cab, done a soft re-set. I only want the block icons, not the skins or dialpad etc, so I then tried to install the GF Block Taskbar GSM.cab It gets 90% of the way through installing it, then stops and tells me installation was unsuccessfull.
I know it says install 3rd, do I need all the other junk in my trunk from post number 2 as well?
Thanks GF, for holding us numptys by the hand.
Also is the elite taskbar only CDMA?

That's a new one. I'll look at how I have the cab constructed and make sure I didn't miss a security setting. The 2 file activates the single percentage point battery meter, so yes you will need it for this to look right. And the Elite TB is GSM ready.

It's a work in progress. I hope to have this done soon.
Thanks for the great work! I can't wait for some QVGA 6.5 to tide me over until I finally buy a VGA device.
I take you still have to make the cab available for the Elite?
I am kind of lost as to the manual renaming...
Is there a file manager able to automate such a thing?
I have TC but it can't be done as far as i know...

[REF] Overview of the different ROM's & Features [11-06 updated]

Hello everone!
I noticed a lot of questions from new guys who are completely lost in all the different roms out there!
So i thougt why not make a topic that gives an overview of all the rom's and whats in it.
First let me explain what is basicly different.
Take a look at the excel file you can download below. you see there are a lot of rom's listed on the left side!
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now it all comes down to your personal choosings. do you want a rom where the start menu is at the top take one where row C ("Start at top") is filled in. A higher number means a newer version. Newer versions are better (most of the time)
You want it at the bottom? Take one where row D ("Start at bottom") is filled in with a number.
Do you have a T-Mobile US HD2? pick a rom where row E says Yes!
Row F tells you if the ROM is ready to enable the 576mb RAM in combination with a proper radio ROM.
Cookie Home Tab + Editor
A lot of roms have the Cookie Home Tab (+editor) cooked in. CHT (cookies home tab) is a great addition to manilla and i would recommend using a rom where it's cooked in. If properly cooked it can boost preformance (more info on the CHT can be found here.)
GTX Themed
Some ROM's have the GTX Theme cooked in (more info of the GTX Theme can be found here) The theme cooked in makes it preform better.
I am currently working on filling row G & F. I could use you to give feedback of whats the free program memory straight after a flash (no 3d apps installed) I think this would be really usefull to know and have an overview of.
Language of the rom
WWE = English. Rest speaks for itself
18-05-2010 Topic created. Going to make it better looking soon.
11-06-2010 small update, consider this v0.2
15-06-2010 Now you can also view the rom's on google docs click here this way my updates will be visible faster
Feedback & corrections verry welcome!
might need this one too if im going to expand it a lot.
nice sheet.
my opinion:
-change "start top" to "6.5.0"
-change "start bottom" to "6.5.X"
-just use "X" instead of build number (you dont have to update it again and again just for build updates)
-hd2o has 6.5.0 variants too (not correct in sheet)
-hd2o has cht included (not correct in sheet)
-i would not include the "gtx themed" row because you can install this as a cab and its not a fundamental mod like cht.
-"sense cfc-compressed"-row needed
-free space after flash (dependant on many things like ram-hack/leave out things/compression/ramdisk/pagepool etc; i think you should remove this row or test every rom yourself)
-graphical mods-row (none/light/medium/heavy; to determine if its close to stock looking)
-pagepool-row needed

that i will do i just named it that way so the noobs would understand it better. but not having to change the builds every time outweighs that.

Yeah i figured i could remove that row becouse its not verry common. also going to remove that 576mb row becouse every rom seems to have it.
making a row like CFC Compressed / Uncompressed is a good idea. gonna work on that too
thanks for the feedback.
FANTASTIC!!! FANTASTIC!!! FANTASTIC!!!
Would be great to see some array of benchmarks on this! Maybe one for graphics, one for time it takes to load 500 single messages (obviously from a standard SBP restore, so that its the same)

pretty sure the mods won't allow benchmarks to be included, however useful they may be.
i made a perfect benchmark performance reference video for you all.
source: samsung sound demo 1920x1080 9000KB/s
endfile: 800x480 2000KB/s (full hd2-resolution; no scaling needed)
hd_other_samsung_sound_demo2000kbs.mp4
when testing and comparing you have to follow the rules:
-mtty
-rom flash
-hard-reset
-install tcpmp
-soft-reset
-plug in power-cord (cpu-scaling!!)
-start phone
-start tcpmp
-load benchmark video
-set zoom to 100% (no picture scaling needed anyway; just to make sure)
-start the tcpmp benchmark
-always use the same (fresh formated) sdcard with this video file on it
-you have to state that the results can vary
feel free to add this video to your first post (but give me my conversion credits).
enjoy and happy benchmarking...
Very much appreciated . Excellent job

Hi Jamieeeee,
Thank you so much for picking this up this useful endeavour.
Not certain if you had been privy to the previous discussions about such an idea - Please can you take a look at this thread for some further ideas to extend, develop and ultimately grow what you start into a community-driven resource:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=658641
Also, you will see there that there is a member (bowpay) with another site developed specifically to provide this level of functionality: http://xdaroms.com
Perhaps it is also worth making contact with him...
All the best and thanks again,
Hirshy

In addition to bowpay's endeavours, I would like to state that while the Chef's participation is preffered, it might not be mandatory:
Indeed the concept of Wiki would enable users to keep the table up-to-date. The larger the sample size of users representing a particular rom, the more accurate the detail as time and user-base increases: ala "The Wisdom of Crowds".
So even if the cook provides just the initial basic information, or nothing at all, it would not prevent such an idea from working. This is dependant on the Wiki model for user updates - which is available here at XDAdevs. This is probably a benefit over the model that bowpay has for rom cataloging, which I think is dependant soley on the chef's input and maintenance, however I am always open to correction.

I think this would work here on XDA-Devs better than a google-doc?...
Feedback welcome,
Hirshy
thanks for the feedback guys im working on a improved file with some changes,
- No more build numbers. i will keep this one on here untill its outdated (wont be that long) becouse its to much work to keep track who updated what.
- No more 576mb enabled row (every rom i encountered had it enabled with the proper radio)
- Stripped version row, now making a difference between Yes and Available
- added: Graphical Mods, Sense CFC (un)Compressed and Pagepool row.
- Removed the CTX row.
- Added the SPA row. sorry for the spanish people i missed ur country lol
i think i luv you! thanks for doing this.
your idea of the amount of available memory after flashing is a very good one as well.
would it be too much work to show what mods/apps come pre-installed?
Great Effort! with everyones help this may be up-to-dat and accurate!
my 5 cents;
Artemis has no 576 support as far as i know (an is on his own post ;0 )
Just a suggestion but in the next update can you please include a cell with the additional application highlights? and also reorder it so it's in alphabetical order?
Also a generic question (not sure if this is the right place for it but hey). Do the new builds of wm6.5 have the start button at the bottom of the screen by default? corrently i have 1.66.405.2 Official installed on my phone and the start button is at the top.
Thanks for your comments.
this is pretty awesome!
very good idea! thank you for your contribution, this will be very helpful to a lot of people!
Awesome initiative, but like a previous poster said, let's try to keep benchmarks out of this. We've seen nothing but bad stuff come of it in the past, and we'd hate to have it repeated. Enjoy er
p.s. Here, I'll sticky this for better exposure, as long as you promise to keep it updated

T-Mobile MyFaves Port to Sense 2.5 (Help Needed from Experienced Sense Modders)

Ok, so I have started to try to port the MyFave Tab to Sense 2.5 & hit a bit od a road block.
What I have done so far is rename almost all files to fit the Sense 2.5 Naming method. There are 4 that I can't figure out what their 2.1 name is & therefore haven't been able to convert yet. So, I need help from someone who's good at getting filenames from the hash files. I believe these 4 files are what is preventing Myfaves from loading. Sense loads fine, there's reg for MyFaves as well as it appears on the Settings Page to adjust position & disable.
Also, I need an experience LUA editor. I am not good with them at all. Basically, MyFaves is part of the People Tab. That being said, there's scripts in there for MyFaves, but you can't just use the old file in the new 2.5 People Tab. I have renamed the old file to match the new one for easy cross matching. What I need is for someone to compare old to new (Sense 2.5 2016 People) & edit the new to have those MyFaves scripts. There's a few things it does, adds a small MyFaves icon next to MyFaves contact similar to the Facebook Icon. MyFaves contacts are circular, not square & use a separate contact photo frame image. Finally, there's the options for replacing/deleting/adding contacts to the MyFaves account.
My files can be downloaded "HERE". I tried to organize them so you can understand what's been done & what hasn't, as well as which file are which when it come to the old & new People Tab LUA's. The new People Tab's Mode9's are edited as needed already.

Update: Ok, so turns out it was the ROM I was using. It wouldn't allow a dll to run because the chef didn't turn off the cert protection stuff in the kitchen. Will have to work around that by figuring out how to install the cert via cab so it won't depend on that.
So, now the pages shows up, only problem is it's blank. All images seem to be named right. I found the name for one of those file, it was the slider bar notification script that makes the star show up when there's an alert for one of your fave5. So, now I need to find someone to edit those People Tab LUA's for me to be able to go further. W/o that, the contacts aren't being imported into the Contacts & god know what else might be in there.
Nice work i tested it and for me it does not work i have touch pro 2 with 2.5 version of manila it is blank

That is because this isn't finished yet. This post is for developers help to get it done. So far I have gotten it to display a blank page, but the page is there so it's loading the mode9 files which is a big step. My main problem is there are no LUA's yet for the People Tab that include the MyFaves scripts. This being said, it's need to be costume made by comparing them to the old 2.1 People's scripts that have the MyFaves scripts.
Well, just an update;
1) Hex edited myfavesservice.exe, it'll no longer autohide Home & People Pages in Sense.
2) Still having problems with scripts though. The Myfaves Page is blank & adding the script to the People Pages' scripts messes them up. Call Log/All People/People Detail all become blank. My only thought is all scripts have "require("MyFaves_manager_v1_5_svc")" added to them & a script in the myfaves.mode9 has it too. I think the whole renamed filepath thing in Sense 2.5 is causing it to not be able to find this. I thought it was a script, but all tries at finding a hashname have failed (file doesn't exist).
Anyone have any ideas?!?!?
i know im out of post but im new for this how do i put on my home screen tabs the facebook app?????

I don't have any ideas but I am following your progress... I have an Energy ROM which is Sense 2.5 but there is no my Faves for it Sooo... I am wishing you good luck and prosperous endeavors 'cause I think I'll want your finished cab. BTW, I tried your early Dev. cab and My phone was able to communicate with T-mobile WRT My Faves but like you saw the home tab and the people tab went away... also Though the website reflected that my my fav's were updated I had no indication or icons or list of faves... You probably already all know this but if not, it's more feedback.
Keep it up! looking forward to the real deal!

Thanks for your feedback. What do you mean by,"My phone was able to communicate with T-mobile WRT My Faves". Also, how did you know it was unable to communicate. I get my Icons downloaded but the contacts don't get added. The scripts for people page get broken when I try to add the MyFaves stuff from the old people page. I think my main problem atm is something to do with this renaming since the MyFaves page show up blank like it's script is broken when i haven't even touched them & theyre embedded into the mode9. BTW, I'm using Energy ROM CHT June 3rd with Dinik theme. Here's the latest CAB if you want to test things out. There's 2 CAB's in the ZIP. One to install MyFaves, the other replaces the MyFaves Edit People Scripts with unedited scripts. That way you get your People Pages back, because somethings is broken. Really hoping to hear back from a few people I PM'ed who seem to really know LUA's better than me & might see something I don't.
Things I see working,
1) MyFaves sends cmd to get contacts & turns UI on.
2) MyFaves Icons from server get DL'ed. (Wait couple minutes & check \Application Data\HTC\MyFaves\Icons. 15 images will how up, 3 copies for each contact.
3) HKLM\Software\HTC\My5\UI\#\ (# = 0-4), Images are added to Reg (NOTE: This seems to be the reg Manila reads).
4)MyFaves pages shows up, Tab Order Customizing has MyFaves w/icon & Slider notificate fades out because no notifications exist.
Things I see broken,
1) HKLM\Software\HTC\My5\UI\#\ (# = 0-4), doesn't update contact information (Name/etc).
2) HKLM\Software\HTC\My5\ServerID\#\ (# = 0-4), doesn't update at all.
3) MyFaves & some People Pages broken, nothing shows. (NOTE: To get back out of people, scroll slider to working page & hit "Back" from there, "End Key" may work as well.
4) MyFaves 5 contacts not added to contact either in HTC Contacts or MS Contacts.
Conclusion: You said, "My phone was able to communicate with T-mobile WRT My Faves". Maybe one of my EXE's/DLL's/MUI's got broken causing the broken stuff.

OK, let me try to re-explain... ROM: Energy.RHODIUM.23569.Sense2.5.Cookie.Jul.03
Everything works perfectly on it except Faves... that's where you come in. I tried your ?initial effort that you requested someone help with the coding... different thread so...
Down to facts:
(Prior to finding you, after flashing new [and 1st custom] ROM) Went on to My T-mobile. Tried to get My fave's on phone. The web site lost Icons and said waiting for phone to acknowledge request/change whatever.
then I installed your cab (which didn't uninstall and I had to wipe and start over) then I got (what I call) a system/network message :My faves info updated (not a text).
Went back to the website and sure enough it was stable too. (thus the communicating part)
But since the cab got rid of my cool home tab and people tab It wasn't important enough for me to keep.
Does that help clear it up?
+Noob Question: Instead of a 3G icon I get an H. Is that the same thing? I saw a registry tweak to make a 3g icon but I actually have to wait until tomorrow until I can see if it works since I don't get 3g at my house
Ok, so your talking about the website having issues. As for home & people tabs disappearing. That will stop, I hex edited the MyFavesService.exe changing the reg it write to hide them. long story short, it will no longer hide those pages once I do get the app working.
No, I don't believe it was the site. The site said waiting for phone to confirm (or something along those lines)... That stayed like that until I put on your cab! THEN the site accepted the changes. It wasn't issues with the site... The phone didn't have the protocols until your cab and therefore the site wouldn't finish the update. I even shutdown my pc, rebooted and went back online and it was still waiting.
Oh ok, because all custom ROMs don't have the MyFaves App so there was nothing for it to communicate with. My cab adds the App.
That's what I mean. Whew! OK so I'd like to try your newest cab but the old one wouldn't uninstall so I had to wipe my phone and That's a pain in the A55. Would this one/these two present the same issue? Unless there is an easier wat to completely back-up and restore the phone. OH BTW, you said that the faves don't show up in contacts etc... have you tried the Backup FavPeople app to see if it recognizes them? If not and it does it might be a new direction to ponder.. As I've mentioned in other threads, I haven't programmed since DOS 3,3.1 and GW Basic so I'm behind the curve a little. I hope you're not offended by suggestions that may have already occured to you.
Also.. is it possibe to "dumb down" your efforts and produce a slightly different app for the time being? Like.. keep the "communication" part I described, and figure out how to get the contact recognized and DL'd BUT leave out the tab and the management part... That might solve some of the issues for now and provide a useful tool? Or am I just being greedy?

I don't know if it'll uninstalled, but won't cause any problems if it's left on device, just install the second people restore cab to fix what the myfaves cab breaks. I've been running it live on my cell for 2-3 weeks now, only thing I have to do is that people restore to get people pages back. Never tried backing up the contacts. i believe the people scripts are supposed to write the new contacts, but because my edited people scripts are broken somehow, it's not doing that. I believe what ever is breaking those pages is breaking MyFaves page as well. Probably some renaming issue, can't find some file or something.

Upon reboot I got the Info Screen my faves on then the info screen that they're updated. the device was sluggish between these two screens. then it hung... ... I waited 10 minutes for the updated screen to go away after trying every touch and button combination. Then I reset the device. It hung at the htc sense loading screen... then I reset it again and the htc sense loading words didn't even come up... I am now reflashing the ROM. Just more feedback. the only thing I think is I should have maybe used the transparent slider one??? but I don't think I had that.
I think NRG removed one of the TAB's in the newest ROM's. My Manilafull.xml & 26948339_manila files have that TAB listed. That's what's breaking it.

Yeah he said he removed the eReader tab in the changelog
That's the hard part of adding new tabs to Sense. My final release, if I get it working. Won't have the 26948339_manila & ManilaFull.xml files in the CAB. Instead, I'll give instruction how to edit those files from your device. This is the only work around, it's similiar to how Titanium needs the plugin layouts in the CPR's for custom plugins. Too bad we didn't have a inserter for those Sense file like we do for Titanium's CPR's.

FAQs - HELP QUESTIONS:
IE shows error screen but on pressing cancel you can use it normally - this is because a package is missing in the original build. I am happy to add it but looking at the number of XDA users who use IE, I din't re-cook it. Opera works faster and better.
I removed MMApplauncher, can't access start menu now - You won't be able to because mmapplauncher has been installed INSTEAD OF start menu. This ROM does not have WINMO startmenu so please don't remove mmapplauncher. The reason is removal of start menu saves valuable 15-20mb RAM that makes this rom faster even with multitasking.
Finger Keyboard - It shows error or I don't like it or it's rubbish etc etc - Please install another keyboard that is available in the forum. The reason I haven't cooked in a keyboard is solely because it's a very very personal choice that change from user to user and if you don't like your keyboard, you will hate your phone!
Linux/Ubuntu users can't active sync - Yes, reason being .exe files are not support in Linux and hence you can only install programs in VirtualBox - however, I have removed few packages to save 5-7mb of storage in the ROM as Linux based users are in minor numbers. On Linux you will still be able to activate this phone as 'mass storage device' and will be able to add or remove files, photos, music etc from the memory card. Only thing not possible is - ActiveSync program installations on Linux.
If any of the above answer does not satisfy your hunger for your choice of ROM, please PM me and I will cook the ROM as you want!
I won't know, if you don't say it!

haha! do you mean DruROM3 - the cleanest, the fastest?
I am glad you like it as much as I do. Will definitely try making a German version. It might take a little longer, but will definitely do it if I can.
The titanium one is same build as DruROM3, but only with added titanium, in case someone gets bored of their custom UI and want fast windows UI for change

I totally agree with this!
I don't like the mm app launcher as well, it's too loosely calibrated. It will sweep right at the top even with single flick! But only + point is, it saves about 10mb of useful program ram compared to normal start menu. By using mirom's mod, start menu is totally removed (saved 10mb) and then something to replace start menu i.e. access it - mmapplaucher! You might be able to use sommething else, if you have cab to replace start menu. I haven't tried it myself as I just use SPB Shell for accessing progs etc.
Re: camera
I tested and it will work uptil last 20% as well on DruROM3! So all good so far.
Also, there is a cab/reg tweak floating somewhere in forum that will remove even 20% barrier i.e you can use wifi and camera till the phone is totally drained! if you want, give that a go too, will defo work on this rom!
FAQs in POST 1
Hello Everyone!
I am writing this post in most of my threads so that everyone is well informed. I am not sure if you will get annoyed to see the identical post in more than 1 thread. The only reason being, I want everyone who visits particular thread to know that I am going to be a rare visitor on TG01 forums from now.
As you might all know, I went on 3 weeks holiday (it was AWESOME!) only to find out that Orange had sent me a letter confirming that I should F***O** and they won’t be interested in either paying repair costs/ offering replacement handset/ offer any sort of money back for the malfunctioning TG01(s) (6 replacements to be precise) they have supplied me since January 2011! Since last 5 months, I wasn’t able to develop or help with roms/themes as I din’t trust my phone’s behaviour (it froze randomly making hard to know if it’s rom/theme doing it or actual phone). However, I have tried my best to help out in forum and also with beta tests.
My TG01 is now officially in coma. It doesn’t last more than 5 minutes without restarting. This has annoyed the piss out of me and I was helpless financially. However, I have managed to sell this TG01 for spare along with few old WinMos and Symbian phone to get me enough money to buy a brand new San Francisco (the cheapest option out there for smart phone at the moment!)
So, to keep the story short, all these threads, might not see any help at all from me in terms of development. I will still be willing to help anyone and everyone (whatever can be done without a TG01). If anyone would want to use any of my work so far – please feel free to PM me and I will happily share ROMs/THEMES/files etc that will help you to carry on the projects further.
It’s been absolute charm being a part of this forum and will miss it! I will be around in San Francisco forums anyway, so drop me a PM if you ever think of me
Long live TG01 and WinMos
(already saving up to buy new WP7!)
