If you're wanting the most simple method, just use Unrevoked which can be found here : http://unrevoked.com/recovery/
Make sure you uninstall htc sync software if you have it installed and use the special hboot drivers from here : http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/windows_hboot_driver_install with instruction on how to install and a link for the driver download.

root?

I have a G1, and I tried to get root. I downgraded to RC29, and then downloaded the recovery.img file and the Hard SPL, downloaded telnet and all that, then tried to flash the spl as update.zip to the phone using the recovery console (i think that's what it's called, i pressed home+power to get there). it keeps giving me an error message "E:No Signature (26 files) E:Verification failed". i tried to download another one, and it gave me the same message. i've been looking for a solution for six hours and nothing helped ;( anyone think they can help me?
Did you try editing the zip in any way? Did you extract it/etc? You need to take the downloaded zip, rename it update.zip, and put it on the sdcard. Do not change any files in it or extract it. Hell, don't even open it.

Doesn't sound like you're using the SPL update.zip. That updater only contains one file.
@gary13579 the only thing i did to the zip was rezip it, cos my mac automatically unarchives everything when i download it.
@jashu do you know anywhere i can get the SPL? i downloaded it from the post on this forum..

That would be the problem. You're going to have to find a way to download it without unarchiving it.
There's a "signature" added to all updates, which tells the phone whether it's a legitimate update or not. When you re-archive it, it loses that signature.

Trying to Install xRecovery

So I'm trying to install xRecovery using this link and I download the .zip file and unpack it. First I try to "Automatic Installation (recommended): Open xRecovery installer app and tap "Install xRecovery" but I can't find the xRecovery installer anywhere so I try:
Manual Installation:
- Download the apk, rename it to xrecoveryZIP
- Unpack the file, find ./res/raw folder inside. It should contain 3 files (chargemon, busybox, xrecovery.tar)
- copy these 3 files into /system/bin using root explorer (remember to remount /system rw
but when I go to the /system folder there's no /bin folder and I have zero clue what to do
PS - as far as i know i've successfully rooted my phone using superoneclick

First make sure your phone is rooted, then install Busybox from Market. Make sure Busybox is installed on xbin, not bin..
Got into the same prob coz its installed on bin, tried to reinstall busybox and saved it to xbin and i manage to install xrecovery..
Thanks for the quick reply! In the busybox installer it says "status: done" but i don't know if it actually installed or not b/c i don't see busybox anywhere ??
k so i can get to the system/bin folder on my phone but i can't copy over the files like the instruction says it says "xxxx file copy failed" for every file i try to paste into the /system/bin...i like to think i'm not completely retarded but this ish is killin' me
When you install Busybox, theres an option where to install it. install it to xbin, not bin.
When it's done, its done. then try installing xrecovery.
Also, install xrecovery using the Automatic way, its easier..
When doing a copy/pasting or editing, make sure Root Explorer is in r/w, not r/o
I would install it the automatic way if I could find the installer anywhere :-/

Dude its in that thread: http://www.mediafire.com/?eyihuzn4h96xw4c
DL that then, go to Market and search for an apk installer. install that.
Then copy the xrecovery apk to ur sd. open the apk installer of ur choice. it should then scan for apks in ur sd card. install xrecovery and ur done.
I too am having the same problem as yours but managed to overcome this issue by installing xrecovery via flashtool.
Sent from a public phone.
the file that downloads from that link is a .zip. do I need to change the extension to .apk? (i know it says .apk on the link but when you download it there's no .apk)

Theres a free root explorer in the market. Look for one.. Try looking for some youtube videos online for the x10...
Sent from my Rooted X10i
if i watch this video, there's a point where he clicks on the file on his phone and the file's icon is the little android mascot or whatever and when he clicks on it it gives him the option to open it with the app manager and when he clicks on it it takes him through the installation. whenever i go to the file on my phone, 1) the icon attached to it is the same as for a .zip file and 2) when i click on it it only gives me the option to extract it.
Also, give flashtool a try.... Gtg.

thx for trying to help, much appreciated.
any other takers???
Dont extract it, just copy the file the way it is to ur sd card... Scan again with an apk installer...

that's what i did, copied it without extracting it

[Q] How to install SMSBackup?

I found this SMSBackup app in the forum but don't how this can be deploy to my Samsung Focus 1.3 as the files extracted are not .xap. Please help, thanks
What's ROM you used on your phone? Make sure your phone was unlocked!
If you used DFT or Mi7 ROM, you can install direct this app by IE (send app over email or upload it to dropbox etc...)
I'm using Interop unlocked Samsung Focus v1.3 currently updated to 7740. I have WP7 Root Tools installed as well. When I unzipped the smsbackup files in my pc, there are folders and files, but I didn't how should I put them onto my phone. thanks
SMSBackup will be installed as the same as WP&RootTools which you had installed. Make sure that you have had the SMSBackup.Xap file and don't unzip this file!
In oder to install .xap file, you can use:
- Tom XAP Installer (see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=860964)
- Application Deployment (must install window phone sdk)
Thanks for your advice. But when I save the file from the link below, the file is with a zip extension. Shall I change the extension to xap and then deploy? thanks again
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21458382&postcount=1
I have seen this link is SMSBackup V0.6-en.xap file. Please download this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=906966&d=1329531637
Thanks so much. I finally changed the extension of the downloaded file from zip to xap and it works, though don't know why the extension is zip in the first place. Thanks again.
same problem
Ya, im having the exam same problem. Everytime i download the .xap files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448197 they are recognized as .zip. Then my deployer obviously wont work. Could you please repost the patch you had up. Its a deadlink now thanks

[Q]

Hi. I've always thought about this. Some people say something like this
Copy the file aroma-config and updater-script from META-INF\com\google\android\ from 3.1.1 rom.zip to 3.1.2 zip to the same path. He will say v3.1.1 during installation, but he will install 3.1.2 and you can select CLK again.

And what does it mean? When I edit zip file, it doesn't work. Is there a program for this?

Looks like the update (the zip) mentioned in the quote disables a feature on the HD2 that was present before that update. See here - shouldn't you have included that link
hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166948&page=1286
To prevent disabling the feature, the quote-poster advises to run the update with the updater script (the script that does the actual updating) replaced by an old version. To do that, download both update versions and replace the mentioned files mentioned in the post in the newest version. Rezip and apply the update.
Not sure if this is a wise thing to do if you don't know more about updating, restoring etc... At least backup your data.
No, it's just when I zip it after update, cwm doesn't want to install this and sees as damaged rom.
But 7-zip can change files in archive no need to unzip all. So it works

Goto http://visualgdb.com/tutorials/android/usbdebug/manualinstall.php
Very neat guide with screenshots. I hope this helps you. I followed this guide and installed ADB drivers for my TN7.
i dont know why its not working for me.
when i get to step 12, "Enter the path to the Google USB driver. Normally it is located in the following directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\extras\google\usb_driver"
it keeps telling me that directory doesnt exist.
is there some .exe i can download somewhere that will install the right drivers for me
or maybe someone can tell me where to manually place the drivers, because i have the .dll files downloaded, just didnt come with any way to put them in the right place.
thanks in advance
