Like sileshn just said, there's another thread open on it. In it you'll find that this ROM is exceptionally buggy with lots of modifications for the Chinese market.

DONT EVER FLASH THIS IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE CHINA
I am facing all kinds of problems after flashing this. I am not a noob, so i know what i am talking about. Phone runs like an oven ( you can literally bake eggs ) with random reboots.
I flashed back to my stock KF3 and now cant access my internal space. It says sdcard needs to be formatted everytime. Once you format, it runs ok. After reboot, same problem.
Stay away.

Try kg1 to flash boot.bin and sbl.bin included with that firmware.

It may very well be posted in another thread (stock kernel as Odin3, that is) but it seems like quite a few people that use Odin3 can no longer receive OTA updates. Many of us are getting failures at 50% after using Odin3.

With the number of people getting bricked phones with the OTA why would anyone be crazy enough to do it? We've already had JH7 for weeks over here. When you Odin one click have you removed ClockworkMod or Voodoo folders from your root before attempting OTA? Odin won't touch anything that is on your internal sd. You should move those files to a safe place on either your external sd or your computer. I don't think anyone with fails has tried removing the items from their root before OTA. I did see a post somewhere that someone did and the OTA worked.
That's not true at all. Quite a few people flash Odin and IMMEDIATELY try the update, no modifacations from stock, only to have it fail. Myself included.

Well the OTA update JH7 is much different than the one leaked on samsungfirmwares. Prolly half the files have different md5 checksums, so there's a lot different.

Thats what I did. I did odin3 one click, then immediately downloaded the OTA update and it crashed at 50%.
Hopefully somebody will be able to get the OTA update and then make it into an update.zip that we can just flash via recovery. The OTA JH7 is much different from the leaked JH7 on samsungfirmwares.

[STOCK ROM] [ODIN & CWM] i896 Rogers Captivate Official 2.2

Here is the Rogers 2.2 Froyo i896 Update.. Use at own risk. Im not responsible what you do with it.. Enjoy..
Odin Flashable:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LRH9TZTF
MD5: f6005f02714e395c79baac3f38f4b77d
Clockwork Recovery Flashable: (To be applied from Stock 2.1) To avoid problems restore to stock.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KS5X7V5J
MD5: 4406cc444de931dbf0ff261f07388ac0
Kernel/Modem:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=P1ZU4HLD
Update:
I created a CWM Flashable ROM. Plain stock with Root. This is my first time packing a rom. I tested it and it flashed ok from 2.1 and works on my device just fine. If you don't like it or it doesn't work for you don't blame me, you knew the risk. Post your success.
BTW: you will loose Clockwork recovery and will be replaced with Stock 3e Recovery.
Clockwork Recovery can be restored via this thread tested and it works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213
Have you tried it yourself?
Not to be flashed through recovery its the files Kies downloads to update the device. I personally did my update through Kies.
Excellent I will pull the files from system, the kernel, and modem, customize it a bit, and make an update.zip and flash this to my captivate....assuming AT&TS version is still a long way away.

I would be leary of that. Modem " might " work. Kernel could make for a fun ride though.with i9000 roms that is.
Can this be flashed with Odin? I have a Rogers Captivate but Kies can't see upgrades for my phone. I edited the nv_data.bin file and sgstools shows the proper product code but still no luck.
Hopefully this will solve the problem.
Wow this is bullcrap. They get 2.2 before the AT&T Captivate. :/
1. Modem will work
2. I just need I896 Froyo Kernel and I896 Froyo modem to test, how well it performs with my I897.

Help speeding up my SGS.

Heya, guys.
I'm Angelo. Nice to meet you all.
First of all, I want to say Congratulations to all the people who built this website up.
THere's my issue now:
I got a Samsung Galaxy S on the 22nd of December, so it's kinda new, already updated to Froyo 2.2 firmware version (factory) I9000XXJPP build RSJP5
Rooted with Z4Root and Lagfixed with Ryanza's OneClickLagFix v2.2, I also modified the schedule (I've set deadline with tweaks instead of the default cpq).
I'm not good at all with all those roms and kernels stuff, Odin... Doesn't sound "safe" for me, don't want to toss it after three weeks.
I tried to speed up my phone, it went from 952 to 1857, but I don't see any changes, only at the start when I boot the phone, it loads faster.
Could you guys help me with this stuff out? I'd like to avoid to flash my phone, just to point this out.
Thanks in advance, Angelo.

If you are rooted then you might as well download a ROM that can be flashed using Recovery Mode.
Download [ROM] [11.01.2011] Darky's v8.0 Gingerbread Edition ★ JPY ★
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091
Make sure your download mode is working... ( search for 3 button fix )
Install CWM (search for this)
Flash ROM by copying the ROM to you internal sd and reboot to recovery...
Done
Oh thanks! And how does this work? What does this introduce on my phone?
Do I have to remove my lagfix? Explain please >_>

I recommend flashing any custom JPY rom, 2.2.1 is night and day compared to 2.2, very fast, also recommend using Hardcores Speedmod kernel as well, make sure to disable your lagfix,(oclf does not work in hardcores) and use the ext4 lagfix from Hardcores kernel...
All you really have to do is flash your rom of choice in recovery, then flash your kernel, in recovery as well, and then apply your lagfix.. check your rom of choices thread, most come with instructions on installing

If you check the threads for the ROMs you'll see very detailed install guides that the chefs have put together. You will probably need to use Odin for some steps so get the right drivers and read up on that (it's all here in the stickies or in General).
That's why it's always good to do lots of reading before posting
The best ROM available at the moment IMO, in terms of speed, customizability, and the best support community, it's Doc's Kichen.
Put together your ROM at www.romkitchen.org.
Check his thread for the instructions and if you need help. You won't be disappointed

Since you are running Froyo currently, you must first copy your desired ROM to your SD card, and then flash a kernel that has ClockWork build in (such as Voodoo or Hardcore). Then you can simply reboot into recovery (volume up + home + power) and install the ROM from the SD card. That's about all there is to it If you have problems you can use the "clean install method" of flashing back to Eclair with pit but this is rarely necessary.
Using Doc's ROM is really the way to go, you get great choices of launchers, kernels, themes, modems, so you can make it just how you want it without having to waste time changing/installing things afterwards.

Either way, the procedure is basically the same. We could go back and forth all day
With Doc's online kitchen you can have Voodoo 5.1 with his awesome sound work ready to go right out of the box (hmm that idiom doesn't really work with ROMs does it )

Sorry bud, but there is no way to flash a kernel without Odin unless you have clockwork already. Which you don't if you're on an official Froyo release that has 3e recovery (clockwork can't be used unless you change kernels with Odin).
Flashing with Odin is easy, go into download (volume down + home + power), plug into PC, open up Odin, press PDA, and browse to the .tar of your kernel (such as Voodoo or Hardcore) that you downloaded. Press start and watch the magic happen. This is covered in great detail in many threads, plz look around

ROM Manager is not recommended for most SGS ROMs. In addition, it is likely to cause problems with Froyo ROMs with 3e recovery that don't like unsigned zips.

KC1 update for i9000m (Bell Canada)

Just hooked up my i9000m to Kies and got a message telling me an update is available.
PDA: KC1 / PHONE: KC1 / CSC: KC1 (BMC)
What is it?
Froyo 2.2.1?
Gingerbread?
Has it been out for a while?
I haven't hooked up the phone since the last update which fried my SGS by the way...
Can't seem to fin any info on the forum, or anywhere else on the web for that matter, so don't flame me if I'm just too dumb to find it.
Thanx!
update it and let us know
Just installed and it's just 2.2 (not even 2.2.1) according to the phone.

Hey I'm chasing a 3 file version of eclair or froyo for virgin/optus australia, my wifi has been playing up and I'm thinking of returning it for repair so I'd like to get it back to froyo but I'd like it to be a full clean install. From other threads I've read a 3 file with repartition cleans a system better than 1 file. Can some one point me in the right direction or please strip down the 1 file version. also I can't seem to get the csc back to xsa. I'm always stuck on a gingerbread one that I've previously used. thanks garth
