How To Flash CM7/Miui for those Having STATUS 7 ERRORS - Fascinate General

For those having issues with Flashing the new builds of CM7 and Miui:
Step 1: Flash fixed cwm3 recovery from JT's post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116424
Step 2: Boot into recovery and wipe dalvik, data, cache
Step 3: Flash CM7 7/4 build
**** You might have to remove asserts in zip to flash, Landshark has posted a great tutuorial on this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104827
Step 4: Reboot into Recovery via menu (***Do Not use 3 Finger Salute to boot in Recovery***)
long press the power button, click reboot from that menu, it will then give you option for reboot or recovery. Select recovery
Step 5: wipe dalvik, data, cache and Flash 7/13 build
Step 6: Flash Gapps
PROFIT AND ENJOY!!
Sorry for the redundancy, I know this has probably been covered several times

May want to edit the wording on step 4 to indicate you long press the power button, click reboot from that menu, then you will get the option of reboot or recovery. Anybody not familiar with CM may be looking for recovery in that first menu like it was in the TW custom roms. Other than that, spot on.

Thanks, great heads up

yep that was me lol, 'wtf there's no recovery option??!!' *grumbles and opens up terminal*... I did those exact steps and flashed perfectly on the first try, though I didn't wipe anything when flashing 7/13 over 7/4
tapatalked from my VZ Fascinate hauling butt on CM7

For step 1 are we just using odin on the .tar? what do we do with the .zip?

You get to recovery by long pressing your power button on the phone, select reboot and then the option for reboot or recovery will pop up. Shouldn't really matter that you didn't wipe

You have the option of either using the zip or the odin. I personally prefer using odin. One or the other not both

Ok now i'm stuck at step 3.
I properly flashed the 07/04 rom but on first bootup im stuck where it says it is waiting for my sd card to mount and it's in a bootloop.
searching threads now but seems like people are just saying get a new sd card??

what kind of card are you using? im using the 16gig class 2 card that came with the phone and i've had no problems

stock, everythign is stock. usb cable, everything.
it's the 16gb card that came with the phone.

how do i know if it is class2??
ok, recovered back to froyo fine. I guess i'll poke around more before trying it again. Atleast now I'm confident about rooting it and using odin.

it should say on the card, a little 2 in a circle... some makers like sandisk will usually put a tiny 'class X' on the front

Did you remove asserts in 7/4 zip? It seems some have had to and some have not. I had to remove asserts to get it to flash correctly. I had the bootloop issue too.

yes I removed the asserts
and the sd card also has a 2 with a semi circle around it.
I also just odin'd back to eclair and tried to reflash cm7 07/04 build and got the same error.
Maybe I should try a different rom instead?

well i'm on comrom2.1 now so i guess i'll stay away from gingerbread/cm7 for a while

Nexus S will not start

Can someone help me?
Thanks
I need more information.
Rooted? Rom? Kernel?
What did you do.

Did root. Wanted to put back the original rom will only start after the Google logo
And how did you attempt to put the google rom back on?
Did you have a custom recovery?
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
I installed the rom on recovery. Unfortunately, the wrong dan grh78 I wanted to make an update on grh41. My Nexus was formerly a rom grh78c
You didnt answer my question. Do you have clockwork recovery or the stock one? If its clockwork then its easy to fix.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
Yes i have a clockwork and it isnt working. The problem is that i cannot start my mobile and i just see a google Logo. Unfortunatly i took the wrong rom grh78 instead grh78C. With rom grh78 the startingt phase worked but at the update on grh41 there came a failure message ,,it is not possible to make an update because a wrong rom is installed. I should have taken grh78C,,.
After the failure message I wanted to booten my mobile and after this message there just appears this google Logo.
Thanks for help

go into recovery, enable the usb storage option, put the right rom on your "sd" storage, turn off the usb storage option, wipe data(factory reset), flash the right rom, then reboot.

Okay heres what you do. Is your phone currently off? If it isn't then, pull the battery out. Put the battery back in.
Hold Volume Up + Power.. KEEP HOLDING THESE TWO and you should be in bootloader. Volume down to Recovery. Does it work? Yeah? Clockwork Recovery?
Okay. Now you have two choices:
1) Stock: download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=968403
Mount the phone via USB in Clockwork Recovery. Download that file and put it in /clockworkmod/backup/ (make sure you put it correct.. otherwise Clockwork wont see the file). Unmount, Check nandroid backup/restore is it there? If it isn't, recheck if you put it correctly. If so, reboot into recovery again.
2) Download a custom ROM such as CM7, Axura, GingerS, NSCollab, MIUI, whatever you want.. mount your phone via USB and put it on your sd card.
Wipe dalvik, cache, factory and flash that ROM (if you flash CM7.. you'll have to flash Gapps right after; MIUI.. flash English Language Pack right after).
Reboot. And it should go past the Google screen.
Alternatively, you should be able to plug your phone in the computer and using ADB by typing "adb reboot recovery" should get you into the recovery as well.
Edit: or do what simms suggested. Either way, you have to go into Clockwork Recovery to fix this.
it isnt working. i just come into a fastboot modus. how should i put the rom into a sd???? The mobile is recognized by the usb.

yes you're supposed to be on a screen that looks like http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-qW-hye-fsWM/TWJgxyBheCI/AAAAAAAAAEE/dIO-8DPEs1M/s1600/s1.jpg
if you volume down to the third one, it says Recovery.. that should get you into Clockwork Recovery (Orangeish) http://www.addictivetips.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Clockwork-Recovery-3.jpg
if it looks like http://cdn.androidcommunity.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/device2-540x324.jpg (yeah aside from Dell) then you dont have clockwork recovery.
When you get into Clockwork recovery, there is a option in there to mount your USB. If you're able to get into Clockwork, I'd go to either of the steps I linked above.
Stock, CM7, Axura, MIUI, ETC. You need to replace your ROM with one of these.
Since you seem pretty new, I'd just stick with stock because that's what you're most comfortable with.
Zephik is trying really hard to help you here man. You need to read what he has written very carefully, supply more information, and follow the instructions really carefully. Then you can fix your phone without a problem.
Let us know how it goes.

You don't have Clockwork Recovery then. Do you have the SDK installed? You need to go through the guides to set up SDK if you don't have it installed already.
- Nexus S Drivers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=878786&highlight=Driver
Pretty much.. you just need to fastboot flash http://koush.tandtgaming.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-crespo.img
Download the clockwork recovery recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-crespo.img image, and save it to the ..\android-sdk-windows\tools directory
renamed it to recovery.img
then type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and hit enter
you should get something like this, if not your image is corrupted, download it again

You need USB drivers for the Nexus S for the device to be recognized on your system.
Once you get Clockwork Recovery up and running (that orangeish recovery that I linked above) you should be able to refer back to my previous post. Once you complete that, your phone should be up and running.
go zephik go!

Or that.. but Odin isn't very popular with the Nexus S.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=947950
Option is there if you want to go that route. I used to use Odin for the Vibrant but I'm not too familiar with it for the Nexus S as its not as popular. If the OP decides to go with Odin then I can't assist you.
I really want to see how this pans out. He cannot be any more of a noob than I was very recently and I got the hang of it (zephik helped me too) so he should be able to fix it.
It's amazing the help you can get for free on this forum. If zephik was running a mobile phone shop be would be making money with the information he's providing ( although it would be much easier for him to take the phone away from the OP for 15 minutes and flash it himself ;-) ).

I can't update to ANY rom...

I wanted to update to CM7, once it rebooted into recovery mode it gives me an error. I got the official Sprint update and the same thing happens. Once it verifies the file, something happened and it says there was an error and does not update. I did a factory reset on the phone, got the official sprint update and the same thing happened. The error is always "signature verification failed" on both roms.
What can I do?
Thanks.
When flashing a rom, are you selecting 'install from SD" then find where you saved the zip, etc?
It sounds like you're trying it thru the update.zip option (don't do that). Also, when you reboot into recovery, you should be seeing orange type clockwork 3.0.0.6 (not blue or green).
Ask if you have any other questions.

If you don't see orange text you're not on CWM3, you are either on CWM 2.5 or stock recovery and neither of those would be used for what you want to do.
Ya, check out the development section on getting the latest clockwork, if you don't have it already. And just in case, first, try powering off your phone, then hold camera button, volume down and power (after device is completely shut off). If you don't see orange text, you should update to the latest clockwork.

The phonr wont respond...I can toggle between the options but thats it.

And now the phone is stuck in the SAMSUNG screen...

If you are able to get into CWM or download mode then your phone is not bricked. It sounds like you will have to use ODIN to restore your phone back to stock.

ClockworkMod 3 automatically converts your phone's filesystem from RFS to EXT4. You need a ROM that supports EXT4 or else it won't boot.
You wanted CM7 so go ahead and flash that if it's on the sd card. If you don't have it on the card it's easy to fix. Just turn off your phone and plug your memory card into a computer and copy a ROM that supports CWM3.
Once you flash a ROM your phone should boot normally.
Bro, when u boot into clockwork (orange) are u opening the slider and using the arrows and enter key. ? You shouldn't be using the home key.
Don't be so quick to "I'm bricked" .. cuz that's rarely the case. And annoying when ppl are trying to help.

K, thx for being patient. I did Odin and its again working.
Now the phone updated to 2.2.1
For future reference, can this Odin method be used o update to a non official rom (like CM7)?
Thanks for all the help.
I wouldn't rely odin for that, and as far as I know, no. For frame of reference, I've probably flashed epic roms over 100 times, and have only odin'd 5-- Used mostly to return to stock/update a modem. So, odining probably wasn't necessary for you. Do what arashed says a few posts up.
I'm using SRF 1.1.0/Twilight Zone and its amazing. Battery lasts a lot longer too.

which version of market is he running? Has he tried to do a factory reset, now that the rom is installed? That may fix it.

If ec07 is on the phone, then it will just factory reset to ec07 as it was flashed, before any changes were made. I think the problem is that you did the reset when you had the old rom on there, and not the new one... I might be wrong, but if he resets, then wipes dalvik and cache partition, it should work.

well that should explain it.. so since every time i boot to recovery i have to re apply the update.zip.. should i just remove current one from sd card and use red?? i thought i followed directions decently.. i orginally flashed red on 2.1 then relized thats a bad idea so i flashed yellow.. as seen in this post it says its for froyo

Yeah. Considering the fact that he didn't have the phone there anymore, I was hoping that it would be doable as is... but you may have to reflash with red, ace... I guess try mine, unless you can get the phone back, and if that doesn't work use this tut.

first, make sure that eco7_clean.zip is on your sdcard and that you have flashed the ec07 modem and kernel via odin
simply take the update.zip that has the red cwm, and place it on the sd card. don't try to flash it via odin. then reboot into recovery. the second line will say apply sdcard:update.zip select it using the softkey where the menu would be (it won't be lit up.)
just make sure that the update.zip that contains yellow is off the sdcard before you do.
from there, you can select install zip from sdcard, using the volume rockers and the power key, then choose zip from sdcard.
select ec07_clean.zip then yes.
after it's installed, wipe dalvik and regular cache and reboot.
i got it figured out.. for some reason my stock recovery was 3e.. i just odined 2.2.2 stock.. then flashed kernal updated cwm wiped the big 3.. and its pimping... thank you sooooooo much dude.. for reall... words and clicking thanks cant being to show my appriciation
Mine boots into CwM yellow from rom manager then i just install zip from sd and choose updatered .zip....

Here are instructions i have followed an no luck http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043892
Ok I think you got some extra cache or some other piece of data that did not get wiped. either way, do this in this sequence and you should be ok
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file.
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Load the JFD rom for the vibrant'.
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine!
15. Then, root the phone and you can flash your new Rom.
doing this method will get everything back to normal and the phone will work just like it did right out of the box
It is #7 that is important when it reboots into recovery after froyo that does not brick then pull the battery and go back into download mode and flash the JFD, This will clear everything out and put you back into stock
Good luck
Got it started
I got it booted though a very hard process an now i cant get my sd card to mount it says when i go into anything media related it says "Your phone does not have a SD card inserted" an Externel dont mount either

Don't use eugene's rom, since you were using an ICS rom follow these steps
flash froyo bootloaders
flash regular jfd and TICK REPARTITION ( ICS/CM7/CM9 change the partition layout and you need to flash correct partition table for stock rom to work )
back in bussiness.

Hey Jason. I'm in the exact situation you're in. Loaded Passion for about 1 week, got the encryption screen and was forced to reset. Now my SD cards (internal and external) won't load. Have you found a work around for it yet? Cheers Mate.
nope nothing
either of you find a solution? Im having same issue
In the same boat
I am in the same boat. I was using the Euphoria ROM. Yesterday things slowed down on the phone. I rebooted a few times and it crashed. The last couple of times it told me about the encrypted data. That was when I tried to take it back to stock and it won't do anything now other than boot to the vibrant logo and shutdown. Searching for a way to odin a ROM/Kernel that has a CWM recovery so I can go in and manually format the SDcard.
Do what I did, sell it to someone as a wifi hotspot and buy yourself a hercules. You'll never look back

Webstas- Just out of curiousity, were you trying to mount your phone to your computer while on ICs when this happened? I have a theory that I believe I know why this is happening. Just need you to see if you remember a few weeks ago and if you had any problems mounting to your PC and then your next reboot you got the Ecnryption Error.

no i got up an took a shower then came back it gave me an encryption error then i odin back an more trouble odined a couple more times an now it boot loop an also wont start with eugenes froyo
I know it has been awhile but think back. Were you mounted to your PC at anytime between your last reboot and the Encryption Error? Doesn't have to be right before, the error gets throw on your "next" reboot. And as you know, reboots can happen manually or for something as simple as wrong UV settings.
Looking back in this thread, I saw that you got it to boot up. See if you can do that again and then mount your External via ADB and you should to push the proper commands then. Pretty much your internal is hosed, but me and a few others are working on that too.
Can't get it to boot it makes it to Vibrant screen an shut off an on Eugene"s froyo it gives me a couple of errors an I just can't get it to start anymore it there anyone who has encountered this an got it fixed like I really need this fix I am using a blackberry please save me
YAY
I got it fixed but now im on step 13 of that guide where you have to use ADB an i cant get the phone to show up on my PC what drivers do i need i already have Vibrant drivers but still nothing an the usb works its a samsung USB so can anyone help me with ADB
I am having a similar problem. Was running ICS 4.0.3 w/Euphoria without issue until this morning. Got a couple of errors after a normal recharge. Pulled battery and rebooted, but is stuck in boot loop. Cannot access either recovery or fastboot screen. Vibrant logo flashes and release buttons, but never enters mode. Then cycles to Android screen and would likely stay there until battery died. This is primary phone and need to put back into service quickly. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

[Q] Attempting to flash ICS333 - Stuck at CWM/Can't access SD card error

Hi all,
For the last couple of days I've been trying to flash my Galaxy S with ICS333 using the following guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25722239#post25722239
-----------
"3. Enter Download Mode, open Odin, check Re-Partition, press PIT button and browse for the PIT file, press PDA button and browse for the PDA file in the ROM folder, press PHONE button and browse for the PHONE file, press CSC button and browse for the CSC file and finally press START button.Wait till it`s finished and when the phone reboots disconnect from PC.
4. When the phone has booted into the ROM and you see the wizard screen just enter download mode again, plug your phone into the PC, open Odin, press PDA button and browse for the CF-Root kernel, press START button and wait for it to finish. After the phone reboots disconnect it from the PC, let it boot and when you`re in the ROM, set your phone to mass storage mode from settings>wireless & network>usb settings and plug your phone into the PC, copy the ICS333 ROM to your internal SD root location, assuming you have downloaded it from here : http://goo.gl/LuXvH and disconnect from PC.
5. Enter CWM, Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, Wipe Dalvik Cache and flash the ROM.You will notice the phone will reboot immediately because it will switch kernels, from CF-Root to Semaphore, prior to flashing the actual ROM.As a result, it will boot loop or get stuck on Semaphore logo, so just force it into CWM using the 3 key combo (no need to take the battery out). Now flash the rom again and wait till it`s finished and > Reboot to system!."
-----------
After performing stage 3 I waited for the phone to restart and understand that I should have seen a ROM/Wizard appear. This did not happen and now the phone just goes straight into CWM upon boot.
Whilst in CWM I get the error E:Can't mount /sdcard/ and non of the functions work. What should I do next? I've had a search around these and other forums but can't work out what to do. Don't want to just keep trying random things and end up making the situation worse.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

get back into download mode to flash a rescue kit or a JVU upgrade from My Android Collections also tick update bootloader
But First power down, pull out Battery, SIM CARD, and EXT SD card, press power button for a minute , than power up without SIM and Ext SD Card...make sure you have more than 50% battery charge before you attempt any sort of flashing
Thanks very much for the help. Used the darkyrom resurrection kit and it worked like a charm.

One last thing before I go ahead and try flashing ICS again. Can I go straight from darkyrom to ICS or do I need to put a Gingerbread installation on the device first?
Thanks again

Sorry to be a bother again but I now have a new problem. I have updated to CM 9 android version 4.0.4 which appears to function correctly but gives me no access to the sim card (can't see any phone numbers/contacts and won't connect to the network).
I understand that this usually has something to do with EFS settings (I took a backup of the EFS using GPS Aids before I flashed) which I have tried to restore using Nitrality but with no success.
I have checked the sim card in another phone and it works correctly.
Starting to think that this flashing business is not for me.
Any ideas as to what I should try next?
Thanks
Louis
You can change the efs folder via terminal but I found the easiest way (I had incorrect imei on hellybean) was..
Flash stock GB via Odin. Flash semaphore kernal via Odin. To get cwm.
Boot into recovery and flash cm7, boot into recovery and flash cm9, boot into recovery and flash cm10.
Obviously make sure you have cm versions on the card first. Efs corrupts when you don't flash in order example GB to JB missing out ICS. Doesn't happen all the time but that's usually the cause.
Worked like a charm for me.
