Hello guys,
I bought brand new HD2 and want to replace W6.5 with 2.3.4/Sense 3.0, NAND(been told SD installs are quite slow).
But I`m struggling choosing build - there are SO many, I`m totally confused.
This page lists all of them, but which one I should go for?
android.hd2roms.com
I don`t need any special features, mods, fancy stuff - just original 2.3.4 with Sense 3.0.
Please advise
Ta
It is not possible to get Gingerbread 2.3.4 with sense, only 2.3.3. Also, I don't wish to confuse you but SD installs are far from slow. In fact, many people say that MccMBoxMax GS (SD gingerbread with sense) is faster than NAND builds. I would advise you not to use Gingerbread+sense for a while as there are loads of annoying glitches, mostly graphic but also the power menu doesn't work and third party apps need to be used for some things. Try AmeriCanAndroid (SD) it is extremely fast but has no sense, stock gingerbread.
Thanks Nigel.
Ok, then 2.3.3 with Sense 3.0 - does it exist?
I looked on some screenshots of modified builds - some look quite terrible with kiddy graphics, hence I`m looking for most stock version without heavy mods.
Hi, i have just installed "Pyramid HTC Europe 1.35.401.1 - Real 3D V1.5" which is gingerbread 2.3.3 & sense 3.0, has some graphics glitches but runs fine, look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075703
There are plenty, just search the forums. Anything with 'Kingdom' included in the title has Sense 3.0, and there are a fair few ROMs with Sense 2.1 with parts of 3.0 (e.g. lockscreen, widgets etc.). I personally don't use NAND roms and have never tried sense 3.0, so I couldn't recommend anything.
You Should Try CoreDroid

Its cool

Nigel,
If you have to recommend, what would you prefer? I know for a fact NAND isn't as fast as SD, and no Sense 3.0 due to graphic glitch.
I have the 1024MB HD2, not the Euro version, which is 512MB, and willing to try the SD Android. I've been in NAND, but always come back to WinMo 6.5 because NAND always gives me crap. Never really tried SD Android, but since there's a person, such as you, who's recommending SD Android, which is the most stable, and fast? Just looking for ROM, doesn't matter if it has Sense or not, just stable with minimal to NO flaws.
Thanks!!!!!!
Well, seems that there is no 100% stable Android version for HD2. Just have to buy Sensation then.

LOL man! Search the threads in HTC HD2 sub-forums and you will find very very good Roms for daily use! No need to buy a sensation! Flash your 1st NAND rom and then you will be a flashaholic like the rest of us!
I can assure you that Android on HD2 is faaaaaaar better than the Android on the official devices!
That's why XDA exists; To make things even better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Then the questions still stands open - is there a 100% stable/glitch/bug free 2.3.3 with Sense 3.0?
a lot of the sence 3 builds are still a little on the buggy side so if you dont want sd roms because they are slow you might find sence 3 roms annoying as well. no sence 3 ROM is 100% bug free. this website will list all the android roms on xda both for sd and nand. it also will list if its sence or not and is a great site to grab your roms from...really it links you back to XDA but its easier to scroll through. i personally like the ANIMATED SENSE ROM. if you want a great fast but not sence 3 nand ROM i would go with RAFDROID and BLUETOPIA HD is a great starter ROM as well. though what i like and want on my phone you may hate so i would really suggest you try each of them out for yourself. keep the ones you like best on your sd card if you have room that way anytime you need a change just flash over a new ROM.

no and there are no roms that are 100 percent stable/glitch/bug free
go buy the sensation and be even more disappointed
this thread is just the same as all the other which is the best rom threads
its disgusting that no one seems to be able to search and read
anymore
everyone wants thier hand held and everything handed to them

I am pretty new to here, still trying to learn Andriod on HD2, just wondering what is the major difference between DesireHD and Evo ROM on HD2? what are the pros and cons?
Thanks!
i would recommend EVO builds. I don't know why but all Desire HD build i have tried, they were so laggy.
I also prefer evo. Also next time, open a thread like this in Q&A section.
Thanks, I will post the question to Q&A next time....
the desire hd builds are better because they have the new htc sense which i find to be a lot cooler than the evo sense. android 2.3 will probably have the new sense anyways though, so it wont matter soon anyways
I personally find myself reverting back to my Evo builds on a regular basis... I have several different sd cards including 2 class 6 cards and i always seem to experience lag and screen locks on hd desire builds... I experience no problems with evo roms. I just enjoy trying new roms no matter how they run. I will probably go back to an hd desire build again once i can load it from NAND .
try EVO build first... it is much stable than HD builds... then when you get boring flash and try HD builds... it has cool new features... that is what i did...
now im happy with hd build (coreHD) less laggy than other builds..

evo but next time post in HD2 Android General Discussion forums this side for devs
can give example which is EVO rom?
*too many weird name there
thanks....
My hd2 not accept any other rom version than the one that are available to me. I've done HSPL, Radio is 2.10 ..... 50_2, and everything else should be fine, yet my phone is still growing HTC logo, for example, if you start Desire HD's firmware in the card.
Neither (personal preference)

Did you allow it to create a data image or add one to the Android folder? Sometimes you have to give it anywhere from 2 minutes to 20. Anything over 20 reformat the sd card and try again.
Let me pile on, the DesireHD ROMs just aren't there yet. The new HTC Sense items in DesireHD are really nice, but not worth the long lag times.
I've tested a lot of ROMs. The one in my sig has been by far the best combination for me. It's almost as zippy as the EVO (my daughter and wife have EVOs). What impresses me most about the ROM I'm using is it doesn't get bogged down with multitasking as much as other ROMs.
Most ROMs are fairly quick on first load. Then they quickly bog down when you load up accounts and apps. FRG83.MCCM IR V1.7.1(Incredible) with hastarin r8.5.1 kernel stays responsive.
Offcourse HD builds, much more smooth browser and goodies in magnificent text selector.
For me the browser experience is the most think to decide my choice......I wasn't using HD builds at moment because the camera faults, but now I am.
OK, after much patience and living with all the Windoze BS, I am considering re-flashing my HD2 to Android.
I currently run the Artemis ROM (Windows) and like it because all the bloatware crap that is usually in the ROMs has been removed and replaced with a miimal array of useful system features. That's what I look for in a ROM.
I know this question is frowned upon but I still need to ask... Considering my desire for a clean and fast minimalistic ROM, what are the best choices available in the Android world?
Thanks

look at hyperdroid or darkstone's new ram build, heard it was fast.
i used to be a fan of those fast builds but i tried mdj froyo hd build and im not looking back. sure its a little slower at times but i am a fan after the camera fix.
I think you will like hyperdroid butits kind of old ... anyhow I do recommend that you check any froyo builds since those seem to run much smoother and fluid then any sense I trie so far... waiting the 4gb card to start testing other builds but hyper paired with energy 2.5 gtx winmo rom ad 2.15.50.14 radio gives me great battery life (3-6mA) in standby of course.
Btw u cannot flash android on hd2 but put it on and run it from sd card... cheers and good luck

I am running the Nexus One HD2 build on my phone and it works amazing...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793924
At the bottom of the first post, the developer posted a spreadsheet of the combos that are working...
I have two HD2's and using different combos... Two recommendations
1) get an SD card that is Class 4 or 6... Stay away from Class 2 as they have been linked with issues
2) if you get it to work.. Dont mess it with it anymore. leave it alone, I have messed up so many times doing this.. if it's not broken, dont fix it.
Welcome to the hd2 android world! I bet you won't regret it.
Considering your choices (i was a long artemis user before), you have indeed the nexus one option, not sense builds. I prefer to use a third option, the miui roms. good new is that changing build is easy like changing a folder. Have fun!
It doesn't get anymore minimalist than darkstone's new SuperRam. He shrunk that system file down to 55mb to load it in a ramdisk. It's extremely fast and completely plain froyo. I'd give that one a go first if I were you. Nice thing about not having nand, you don't have to flash anything, you don't have to mess with your winmo one bit if you don't want to.
The other one you might try if you want a bit more bells and whistles is the HD2One Cyanogen 6.1 rom, it's more current than Hyperdroid. I think hyperdroid hasn't been updated for quite a while.

Dude... seriously... which beer is the best? what's the best colour? What's the best food?
etc. etc. etc.
It is ALL a matter of taste. You need to read people's feedback in each thread, decide which seems best to you, then try a few. The happiest people on this forum, are the ones that put the work in at the beginning, and find a ROM they like.
If you know what you're after, then maybe with a little tweaking of the question, you'll get some help.
Sense or not?
Which base do you prefer? EVO, Nexus, Desire HD.....
Do you want a stock ROM (hardly changed from original base), or one that's themed.
There's so many variables, this question is obsolete..... Do yourself a favour and do some research, you won't regret it.
I had been using Cotulla's LEO stock desire ROM since 30 Dec...quite fast and found no bugs at all...
Since there are so many more NAND builds recently, I would like to seek for some recommendations for new ROM...
My only requirement is sense build with stock theme
Thanks!

Projection's build is close to Stock desire that you are using, it has bug fixes and changes, is stable, and works well.
Again, backup your stuff with titanium, then go flash around.... you'll find something you like.
Nearly ALL builds have screenshots, so you can see what it'll look like before you try it.
well thanks guys...well i thought i was specific enough...my only requirements are speedy, fast rom...all features working.....nothing else matters ...just those 2 features i mention...and um ur also right about doing ur reasearch...thats y i even gave 2 examples MDJ Revolution HD and JDMS. do u guys know of any rom thats like the fastest on the hd2 with all the features working?.....i want to run psx4droid...hope fully it will run good on the rom u guys recommend.
In terms of speed, a bare android (non sense) will likely be the fastest (IMO more stable as well). The desire HD builds are the most feature-laden but also tend to be slower, and the desire and desire z fall in between the two. In terms of speed, the ranking is vanilla is fastest, then desire, desire z, then desire HD (again, IMO), and vice versa in terms of features.
At this point, I believe it is a pretty moot point to talk about "everything working," because each of these different types all have several threads with everything except wireless tether( most don't have it) and 720p recording (none have this feature).
I recommend browsing each thread and finding something that is visually appealing and trying it. If it gives you problems move on to the next one.
Just make sure to read and search before posting questions or bugs.

Gingerbread is so fast compare to Froyo, you would not believe it?
But Gingerbread has no sense (except sense theme from Mccm), has no Internet passthrough and some apps do not work with it. SPBTV 2.0 is an example for me.
This is my point of view.
I will never come back to Froyo.
I am Magldr, WP7, Mccm GB v2.1. THE BEST!
Why there is NO CLEAN SD/MAGLDR BUILDS of Gingerbread, without sense, CM mod etc...? Each avaliable 2.3 build is customized and very unoriginal Hope the situation will change...

it's a SD build, clean, based on CM7 Gingerbread, 2.3.3 to be specific. And is natively built as a Leo, not another device as is common amongst HD2 builds.

Well in my experience, Gingerbread is extremely fast, true, but Froyo is not bad and very stable. The best i tried for froyo was
[Dec 10][SD] NexusHD2-FRG83D V1.8 (PPP + RMNET) [Kernel: hastarin r8.5.3_oldcam], and i got very used to it, all my apps works well and fast enough. gaming (emulators, ps snes genesis n64...), all programs (social, productivity, work...) basically all the apps. My first real jump to gingerbread after many hesitation due to reading the forums was a month ago i tried with CM7 then another stock like (can't remember which one , sorry!), lots of hiccups and incompatible with many apps I loved and can't live without, don't get me wrong they were good but, from my point of view, coming from all the goodies in froyo did not beat the speed gingerbread offered. So i went back to froyo again using [DL Desire v4.32][Sense Re-Engineering with RAM][Always FASTER], which is blazing fast but lags some times (best quadrant score i've seen in all roms i've tested).
So my 2 cents is that it really depends on the user. I would absolutely go 100% gingerbread with AmeriCanAndroid AOSP HD2 GB233 CM7|bkup2sdext234 [KERNEL:AmCanAndroid r3.06], because this is the best I have tested very fast stable and all that you can get from gingerbread on your HD2, however not compatible with my favorite apps. So until I can work around those, Froyo is still my best option and there are very decent one out there with good tweaking options (setCPU...). Choices choices Gingerbread vs Froyo means to me Speed vs Compatibility, hopefully we can get best of both world soon.
NB: I am talking about SD only, no MAGDLR or Ram as I have seen no real difference running SD or Ram in terms of speed or battery or at least not very noticeable, So I like to keep my WM around just in case since i tend to go crazy on all the options offered so in case of android crash and urgency i can boot back and respond fast on my weak but trusty WM.

Try [27.FEB][DFT/CWM] NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.3 [Android2.3.2][Kernel: tytung_r6]. Clean, fast ROM without any extras
I bought my hd2 on ebay and had to flash it back to 6.5 because of a password problem. I really like my phone but I did like the android. I have been reading hundreds of pages and there is just too much information to get through.

The only way to truely tell which rom is the best one for you is if you test them out yourself. We can tell you which one works best for us but it won't really do any good.

Hi I'd advise you to have a look at darkstones SD roms particularly the sense-less build (I'll edit post with link and name later, I forget it now).
It's very fast, simple to set up. I have been using it ever since I first tried it, about 6 weeks ago. Rock solid and very clean and lovely to use it's well worth a look.

You aren't serious are you? Not only are there thousands of threads like this, but that is also a very stupid question if you think about it, as if there was a 'best ROM' everyone would be using it.
Having said that, I would advise sticking to a CM7 ROM for speed and stability, in my experience Sense simply isn't as fast as it's made out to be.
use a miui rom....

You didn't see a single thread remotely like this? Are you f**king kidding me? You clearly spent less than 5 milliseconds searching, otherwise you would have found (I would think literally) hundreds of 'best ROM' threads.
I think any reply to this can only be subjective. There can never be a 'best rom', only a personal favorite. I don't particularly like sense so I use Dorimanx's latest High End Rom. Someone who likes sense will disagree and someone else would say the latest ics build.
For me Dorimanx's rom is the fastest and most stable I've found...I'd recommend it.
Sign a contract and get a new phone...
The best rom is the rom do you like it most. Start installing different roms and see what is good enough for you. Cheers!
I think there is a rule that says not to post such posts...better read the rules before, or the sticky's...
Anyway, as bangorip said this is subjective and depends from lot's of parameters...
From my experience, use wp7 as the standard everyday rom and with dual boot try sd for android but not a sense rom ( it's not as fast in the sd as in nand-my opinion) also if you want only android in nand try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316632

Yes a little more searching would have showed you that you are hardly the first to ask this question. By asking what is the best rom for you that's like asking what is the best outfit for you, or the best car for you. It's impossible for anyone to tell you what is best for you.
Now there are a lot of options from Sense to AOSP to CM7/CM9 to MIUI to Touchwiz and so on.
Your refusal to sample them all speaks to your impatience, this is typically a developer forum so I suggest doing your own research and not asking anyone here to tell you what is best. Experimenting will be the only way to tell you what is best but I can list some things about the different roms
CM7: Fast and stable GB, everything works here.
AOSP: Same as CM7 but with not as many options, just straight Android to the core
CM9: ICS roms, still in the early builds but with almost everything working. A few issues arise here and there so you may want to wait until deveolpment furthers
MIUI: Huge options for customization and everything works (in GB of course, the MIUI ICS roms are at the same level as CM9)
Sense: You have Sense 2.1 Froyo with everything working (except 720p I believe) Or you can move to GB with Sense 2.1-3.5 with everything except video recording working properly. Sense naturally is slower though as it is pretty resource heavy. But the efforts of the devs have brought Sense 3.5 to near CM7 speed and usability.
