If your asking how to enable usb debugging then its
Settings>Applications> Development >USB debugging.
And if you want to mount sd card to your pc while debugging is on..
Then just pull down the notification (while connected to pc) and click on usb debugging notification it will ask you if you want to connect your sd card to PC.
you know the rest

Cant mount sd card on the computer

I hate to start a "OMG ITS NOT WORKING" Thread. But im just plain stuck.
Im trying to get to my sd card on my computer, to switch to my 4gb and to get the update.zip on it so i can root. But no matter what i do, it wont mount. My computer complains that the "USB Device not recognized" and loads a bogus driver. Ive been trying to get it figured out but nothing so far.
Anyone else have this problem? Any one know how to fix it?
hope this helps

No help :O( i dont get whats wrong.
what happens when you plug in the usb cord? Are any external drives shown on your computers file/drive viewer (my computer, etc)? If so can you open those drives, if not what does it say?
the way it should work is.
-DL the drivers here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7218057
-install the drivers on your PC
-hookup phone to PC via the provided usb cable
-on the phone drop down the notification bar and MOUNT the SD card.
-open My Computer or other file viewer
-see two external drives one the internal with about 13GB of total space and one the SD card with 2GB of total space
-add remove files from cards
I did all that. When i plug it in, my computer says "the usb device is not recognized" and proceeds to load a bogus driver. Ive installed the debugging driver, nothing. nothing shows up in my computer for the sd card, OR the phones own flash memory.
I have 3 separate android phones, never had this problem before.
try connecting the phone to your pc again. Make sure that on your phone, that youre using the mass-storage option. Next look at the top of your phone, and pull down the header bar. and click on the "usb connected" option or whatever it says, and then choose "mount" when it pops up.
That's how your actually turn on the mass-storage. dont know why its like this, thought it would be automatically done after chosing the mass-storage option.
I am having the same issue. Installed drivers but can't access the drives.
It does automatically set it self for mass storage, but the computer for some reason isnt seeing it. im pretty sure its a driver issue. or the usb port on the phone maybe bad... that would be annoying.

[Q] Mass Storage after lagfix removal?

Quick question as the searches are failing me...
I removed the One Click Lag Fix 2.1+ in preparation for the JI6 OTA update. I have not removed my root access yet as I've been told that the update will simply overwrite it back to a "normal" user status. I still have OCLF installed from the market. I removed the ext2 tools also.
After removing the lag fix I was expecting that I would be able to mount my vibrant via USB like I did before I rooted it originally. Sadly this is not the case.
I've made sure to enable the Mass Storage prompt in the Applications -> USB settings, but according to the syslogs on my mac it's not even seeing the SD cards when I attempt to mount them. (No error, no nothing).
Is there something else I have to do to get usb mass storage working again?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Switch the setting To ask you what to do. plug it in, choose Mass storage. then switch it back to just mass storage.
Thanks for the reply but I need a little more detail.
Switched to "Ask", plugged in, chose "Mass Storage".
You didn't say to attempt to mount the drive at that point, and I did choose Mass Storage, but I cannot switch it back to just mass storage as opposed to "Ask" while the USB cable is still plugged in.
So I'm guessing what you meant was: "Set USB plug to 'Ask', plug in, choose Mass storage, do not mount USB, unplug USB cable, change USB plug to 'Mass Storage', plug USB cable back in, attempt to mount."
Is that correct?
all I had to do was just change it from mass storage to ask and them instantly change out back to mass storage

Again, what _exactly_ is meant by this since you cannot change the USB settings from Ask to Mass Storage while the USB cable is still connected?

When you plug your phone into the computer via usb, if the message to mount does not come up in the status bar disconnect the usb cable, go to settings, applications, usb settings, change it from mass storage to ask on connection, and then change it back.
After I did that, I plugged the phone into the computer again and it asked me if I wanted to mount or not.
If this does not work, try turning off debugging and doing it over again.

Ok, this is weird...
I turned USB Debugging on because it was set to off, and now my drives mount correctly.
*shrug* It works now, and that's all that I'm looking for
Thanks for the suggestions everybody!
Err yes. With USB debugging on, it will always work.
To clarify the instructions:
1. Turn on "Ask"
2. Plug into PC
3. Select "Mass storage"
4. At this point, if it shows that you can mount, great.
5. Unplug and switch to Mass storage.
6. when you plug it in, it should always prepare to mount.

Strange, that is what I tried and it did not work until I turned USB Debugging on.
Yeah, I just did some more testing and confirmed that the only way I can get my drives mounted at the moment is to turn debugging on.
You're on a Mac, right? I've read that Macs require the phone to be in debugging mode.

Hadn't heard that before now but based on this and previous behavior it sounds right to me
Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah, not sure if it's because of driver support, but I've read this on a couple forums now.
I did not have to switch settings I just selected mass storage again and it worked.

Yes, this will attach the device.memory & your storage card to the computer. The storage card should be your last disk drive under removable storage in Windows 7/Vista.

In this mode I can see the disks but without access them (win xp), I m using this mode to play with "adb"....
so to make it active as disk drive I need open notification bar etc etc.. most of the time I just need connect to PC as disk drive, so whatever u do it's very annoing
Even in my 5 years old HTC P3300 WM I had this option
Is there any way to make it default as disk drive or application that will ask me what to connect with one press key?
I meant without open notification bla bla, I counted 4 presses till u
get it as usb drive:
1. shift screen right
2. open notification
3. press usb connected
4. again, connect USB storage
Fingers are there to be used. Don't be lazy. It's only 4 swipes/presses of your one finger.
How can i activate the menu with the options: use as diskdrive, sync, use as internet modem?

Computer will not allow me to see the phone files or sd card?

When I plug my phone in my computer sees the phone and names a removable drive for it, but when I click it it says please insert? So its not recognizing the phone. Im running the latest moto drivers. I don't know whats going on.
I'm rooted and running CM7 the latest build. Also Ive tried in on 2 different computers both with the moto drivers and the same thing happens.
If your in USB Storage mode you shouldn't have problems. Sounds like it just didnt read it try again. If it fails again, it could be the USB cord or the SD card.

Is there a setting I can check to force it into that maybe it got inadvertently changed. Because no matter what I do its not working. Card should be ok too it lets me save things to it from the phone
Do you have USB Debugging enabled?
To check what USB mode you're in, pull down the notifications bar, tap USB connection, and make sure you're in USB Mass Storage mode. To check to see if you are in USB Debugging mode, go to applications, development, and select USB debugging

Problem connecting to Defy's Memory card

Dear all,
I've been using Defy for 6 months, been alright, but for the last 2 wks, I have stopped being able to connect to my Defy's Memory card via USB cable anymore. I think perhaps I did uninstall some moto drivers or something, so I decided to reinstall it, but that wont help.
All it notify me on my Win 7 when I connect my defy is "Android ADB Device connected"
How am I supposed to solve this problem?
Thanks so much in advance,
You shouldn't need any drivers to connect to the memory card. When you plug the cable into the Defy, pull down the notification bar and select the USB Mass Storage option, then tap OK. (Also, go into your settings and make sure USB Debugging is not enabled.) The Defy will act like a USB thumb drive.
thanks a bunch, i forgot to turn it off, never thought bout that before.
i just updated to Wajkiui 1.12.16 today, n it just happened again. Can't connect to my sdcard even thou i turned usb debugging off already.
I tried going to recovery, and mount SD card through recovery menu, but nothing show up in my computer.
My external HDD can connect pretty well w the same usb port ... what on earth might be happening w my fone n pc?
I have same problem with Defy+
I have installed ICS.
In system menu I have "USB Debugging" OFF and if I select "Share SD Card",
USB debugging is still on and I cannot connect to SD card.
