Read on official Motorola Atrix forums - Atrix 4G General

I don't know how much truth there is to this, (found it posted in GB thread on Moto forums), and I will try to dig a wee bit deeper, but apparently after GB is released on the Atrix, if you perform a Master Reset, the phone will automatically install the latest firmware release when it boots back up.
"once GB whatever becomes official, by doing a Master Reset, you wipe everything, and then the Moto Server installs the most current version of OS."
I am trying to find the post relating to this by Mark, the forum manager.

Weird/
that would be the first device i have heard of to do that.

Also read there that Motorola is leaning on AT&T quite heavily to have the ul/dl speeds increased for the Atrix.
There is a lot of good info on the Moto forums, but unfortunitely threads that are over a hundred pages long to read through.

Larry-
No we always attempt to preserve your information. If you elect to, after the upgrade you can do a factory data reset and start fresh with a new account or your same MOTOBLUR account. "
I think Mark was referring to how to start a NEW motoblur account on your device..."???

One more.....Mark was answering this person's question:
"

When is the next firmware update to gingerbread 2.3. Let's try to stay on topic, and have fun.
Mark,
Once GB is released, whether as a tester or to the General Public, is it going to offer the user the opportunity to do a Completly Clean Install? Is it possible to offer that? with the updates and all the app installs and removals, this would eliminate any "Glitch" due to problems in past.
Thank You
Larry"

I don't know. There are a number of posts from Mark relative to MotoBlur accounts. This one response to a post of his seems to directly address a comment about future update procedures.
The Moto forums are not very well set up in that it can be very hard to trace back to an original post by someone if it is not directly quoted. I gave up after reading back through 20 pages or so.
<edit> It does appear to link back to that first post of yours, but assuming (I know, never assume) that the poster is half way intelligent, Marks' post in no way says anything about master resets then prompting an update to the latest revision. I have now confused myself, so I think I will let it be! LOL

I think it was a follow up to Mark's post, by someone who was misinterperating what Mark had said in his post.

MLIGN-HeroV3.3 Changes Recovery Image

I mean i guess its a good thing, but I had no clue a ROM flash could do that?? I downloaded the MLIGN-HeroV3.3 ROM (got download link from his Twitter page) and just flashed it bout 20 miniutes ago. Of course I had the Blurry issue so i went into RECOV MODE and was gonna flash the Blurries Fix, when i noticed my Recovery image was different. It is updated to RA-1.5.2!! I see he hasnt updated the 3.3 links or changelog here, I dont really see anything on this. I had just updated Cyanogen's last nite via CM Updater, the my original RECOV image was still the same. I had been using RA-dream-v1.2.3.img from the Unlockr 1-Click ROOT process, which worked fine. I did notice it was the Dream branded image and the new image is also Dream branded. Everything is working, but still i guess its a heads up for anyone whois gonna try out the 3.3 ROM
mglin said on the changelog that that particular rom, changes the recovery menu. You should pay more attention to what rom developers say
there is nothing on 3.3 here
but you basically answered it, i just wanted to make sure its not just me, I do read changelogs, actually since i got my Android phone 3 weeks ago, I have not visited anything but ANDROID devoted sites, a few tech news blogs, but u should see my Google Web history nothing for weeks but XDA and AndroidSPIN, i like reading up, I shoulda phrased my thread different, more as a heads up for anyone whois gonna venture to the v3.3 update
Thread moved.

CM9

I am not allowed to post in the development subforum yet, because I have too few posts so far, therefore this ends up here.
I have come upon the same error as obscure.detour, I can not install several common apps, due to them not being 'compatible with this version'.
This occurs since Alpha 7, never before that.
I own the US version of the TPT.
why not post directlty in the ICS CM9 thread ??
And what is the purpose of this thread ?
obscure.detour, As the fella stated in the OP, he has too few posts yet to be able to post in the dev forum.
I dont know the issue with the apps. Maybe a data wipe and restore with Titanium may help.
i had to resort to using a modified play store, after i did it fixed the compatibility issue for almost all apps.. not a perfect solution but a work around for now. take the vending.apk out of the zip and put it in your /system/apps folder and reboot, may have to clear data for the app too dont remember if i did or not.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1548459
A hacked market is included in the rom but for some reason it doesn't work always. I'm working on another solution right now. Until its finished you could try the market xrscyr mentioned (its a different version as the one included in the rom)
Original ICS is not so far away.
Hope it'll be released in Mey. Then I get a lot of work because ICS for my Galaxy Note should also come out.
So im looking forward for working camera and GPS mods on K1 then. Meanwhile i could live with rooted Android 3.2.1.
Sad to say, that might not happen:
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad-Slate-Tablets/Ice-Cream-Sandwich-for-Ideapad-K1/td-p/638437
Still maybe some good news though. People are saying the K1 hardware is being repackaged for sale as the Medion Lifetab P9516, and Medion is marketing it as ICS compatible. If true and Medion releases ICS, their ICS build could maybe be independently ported over for the K1, since the hardware would be the same if the rumor is true.

[Q] Verizon S5 - 4.4.2 upgrade to 4.4.4 - whats best?

Samsung S5 - Verizon
SM-G9000V
Running 4.4.2 (ANCG)
Rooted with TWRP / SAFESTRAP / SUPERSU / XPOSED FRAMEWORK
so here's the question.
I've run across numerous different ways to upgrade to 4.4.4
1) now that some time has gone by since this release was originally put forth, what has been decided is the best way to upgrade and retain root? Or at least regain root with minimal to no loss to rooted applications and their data?
2) If phone requires wiping, what is the best way to bring it back to as close to exactly how it was in look and feel, settings, tweaks etc?
Background : I won't ever post a question without having done a lot of research I don't want to waste anyones time and if they've already written it I certainly will take the time to read it. I currently have
Titanium Backup Pro
SuperSu
TWRP
SAFESTRAP
My Backup Pro
Each variation of restoring payphone seems to offer different aspects. Titanium backup seems to do a good job of restoring apps, TWRP seems to do a pretty good job of bringing back other portions.
I wanted to see if we can get 1 clear post, that says if youre on 4.4.2 ANCG, and you want to upgrade to 4.4.4, latest build, :
1) Here's how to do it, even if its a quick link to the correct instructions or the most relevant and accurate ones.
2) IF the phone has to be wiped, reset, or any loss of anything in order to do that, here's how to bring it back the simplest cleanest way.
would love to see this wrapped up in one clean and simple easy discussion. I realize this information is in scattered bits and pieces all through the forums. I've read everything I could find. It's hard to tell which post came out before someone found a better way and after someone found the best way and then what way ended up being the endorsed way excetera excetera. Very hard to tell from all of the variations.
Therefore seems like a fresh thread with really clear instructions as of todays date - THIS is the best way, would really be helpful to a lot of people and I would be very appreciative for your help
I really really enjoy reading all the great things you guys post, been an avid reader for about a year now, and just continue to be amazed at the incredible depth of helpful expertise and knowledge that I find on here.

OFFICIAL Wileyfox statement regarding Cyanogen/Upcoming updates

Wileyfox has just posted the following statement on their Facebook page:
Wileyfox said:
In light of the recent news from Cyanogen, every Wileyfox user's experience will remain unchanged - hooray!
This was expected and we are confident with the smooth transition planned in an upcoming over-the-air update for the entire Wileyfox product range that will migrate away from Cyanogen’s refocus strategy, and on to a purer Android experience – enhanced.
We strongly recommend that all current and future users accept the upcoming update request to ensure they are on-board for the future. This will include the ability to maintain the same experience as before and the added ability to partake in updates and upgrades to the software in the future.
We will continue to push this update to your device, and for new users we again recommend they download and install this update upon purchase.
We have been ruthlessly testing this and planning a distribution for this update, with a rollout to be released beginning today with immediate effect. Once this transition is implemented and users accept this upcoming update, our first order of business is to focus on delivering Android Nougat 7.0 across the portfolio beginning as early as February, and the entire portfolio by end of Q1 2017.
We value our customers above anything else, and therefore will now take full direct control on all such upgrades to ensure all devices, not just the flagship’s, will get these regular updates.
What this means is we at Wileyfox are still committed to continuous security and Android updates for the entire user base (old, current, and new), a bloatware free OS, deeply integrated value added services, and a promise to maintain a no bull**** attitude to the Wileyfox user experience.
We hope you had an amazing Wileyfoxmas. We look forward to 2017 and beyond, in a Wileyfox world of no bull****!

I can't confirm with a screenshot because although I have my phone I am still waiting for the update notification. I know that the new software will not be Cyanogen OS because in their official statement Wileyfox say:

Okay. But there's still nothing about this move on the wileyfox website, https://www.wileyfox.com/support or https://www.wileyfox.com/faqs
I have a rooted swift trying to push an OTA update - so either I need the latest update they are pushing as a zip (safest) or jump to cyanogenmod nightlies (which I'd prefer not to do) since TB currently can't "write" to the SD..
Does anyone have the latest OTA as a zip?

Thank you
I wrote a mail to Wileyfox Support to get some information about working together with the community, this is the response:
Hello XXX,
Thank you for your response.
We do not supply drivers for our handsets, these can be obtained by doing a simple search on most search engines online.

Anyone can help?
On FB i get a message from Wileyfox NL, that the update to 7.1.1. is coming for the Swift-2 serie in 2 weeks. After that the Swift-1 and the Storm in 4 or 5 weeks en at last the Spark in the end of april.
*Wileyfox news message* Just received from London about the developments of our upgrade to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. As it looks now, we will first upgrade the entire Swift 2 series within two weeks. Within 4-5 weeks following the upgrades for the Swift and the Storm. Spark & X + will receive the upgrade by the end of April.
All upgrades will be offered through the WiFi network. Make sure the battery is charged at least 50%, otherwise will be unable to start the upgrade. Important dates remain neatly on the devices, though we recommend to always have a backup of your important data.
All Wiley Features of Cyanogen OS will continue to exist in this upgrade.
If there are any questions please let us know. Good day!
Regards,
Wileyfox Netherlands
I'm especially awaiting the improved Doze.

Well it was meant to come out today but wileyfox said on Facebook that it's been delayed so you could be waiting a while :/
In the last 2 days my Swift 2 rebooted by itself 3 times.
Then this morning I had the message to upgrade to 7.1.1.
I accepted, but I had not enough storage available (1.4GB the download...).
I made a bit of cleanup, during which it rebooted again, and now I don't have the option to upgrade: if I check, it says I'm upgraded (version us still 6.0.1)
Anyone has similar experience?
How can I perform the upgrade?
Thanks:

Any way to remain on stock, but get the security updates?

I've use ROMs in the past, but never with the Essential phone. In fact my phone has run so well, I've never even factory reset it a single time, let alone put a ROM on it. But with Essential gone, I need a way to keep my phone secure.
I'm wondering what the best way to keep stock android (nothing wrong with stock) but allow myself to get the latest android updates as they come out. In looking at the ROMs there still seems to be some issues with bugs, and since this phone is my daily driver, I'd like it to be as stable as possible.
So is there:
1) A way to get the PH-1 on stock, but still get the important security updates somehow?
2) A rom available (even if android 9) that works for PH-1 that would be super stable but also get all new security updates?
Thanks in advance for any help.

That was the case until Essential went out of business - you could do OTA updates, or download and flash yourself. The stock security updates were only provided by Essential, and the Feb 2020 update was the last one for this phone...

No way to stay on stock & get security updates (well you will get some direct from Google ie the Google Play System Update, the last one shown lower down this page
https://source.android.com/security/bulletin/2020-03-01
and can be found in your settings under security, but its only a fraction of patches)
That means your best option is probably the Android 11 GSI when it's out of Developer Preview in a July (?) and hope it's bug free, else Lineage etc .... not that you want custom roms, sorry.

Basically I'm looking for something safe and stable, whether it is ROM or otherwise. Right now I'm stable, but not safe. So you think my best bet is move to Lineage (to become safe) and then switch to the GSI when it is out of developer preview (and stable)?
From what I have read and asked here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/essential-phone/development/rom-evolution-x-4-1-69-t4073153
This ROM will give you what you are asking for as far as regular security updates are concerned. I have been waiting for Lineage to release an "OFFICIAL" version of Android 10 for our PH-1's but so far nothing. Also I would not mind going on Android 11 but then I do not think that will get monthly security updates either so I am thinking about trying this Evolution ROM out.... I have never worked with a phone with A/B slots so that is my only concern but after reading all the threads I am starting to understand how that works.
Hope this info helps you out.

Guess for stability & functionality it would have to be LineageOS.
Looks like May version is ver 17.1 (Android 10), not sure how this compares to previous version re bugs/working functions, but that means previous ver is already a month out of date on security )

I'm on EvoX the only thing tht is not t working very well, is tht if u fast forward or rewind on Netflix ur phone reboots, hopefully fixed next update, but I'm happy with this ROM, the touch lag is almost non existence for some reason, glad they managed to fix tht. Also L1 certification is still there. The 360 camera workes better in this Rom for some reason. The best part is the customization though, so much

Very strange that no one has started a new thread in the Custom ROM section about this... (This being an official release version of Lineageos 17.1) you would think it would be bigger news? There is still only an Unofficial thread... strange..
Anyway IronRoo let me know what you decide to do and how it goes... I am still on the fence as my PH-1 is currently working perfect on stock 10 but it is of course on the Feb 29th security patch... plus I haven't done a custom ROM install since my LG G5 but I hear it is like riding a bike... lol :silly::fingers-crossed:

For LOS, I think we should wait until their server is back, and few more releases come out.
LineageOS 17.1 for Essential is so new, only couple releases, and still in updating state.

Yes, many will agree, though I'm OK with giving it a go but I need to buy a new high quality USB cable as kid damaged my Samsung one and have only a cheap 6" one which I'm not sure I trust to flash without bricking phone.

Just did a quick websearch and a few have tried flashing it reddit and here on the 16 thread, and it's suggested wait for next release (first recovery had issue, but now fixed, but next release of ROM should have a few fixes & Lineage build servers are down so not sure when new release will drop)
