Sorry for posting it in the wrong section.. the only reason why I did that is because our vibrant is on t-mobile and I wanted to ask if someone knows if non us version of galaxy s 2 would work on tmobiles 3g or even 4g? Im not sure if the phone has 4g.
I just love how wide the screen is and how clean and simple the phone looks....
Willing to take other phone recommendations.
Thank you guys

T-mobile 3g/hspa+ bands
1700/2100
Galaxy S II Bands
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
it would get 3G on At&T but NOT T-Mobile due to the lack of the 1700 Band.
other then lack of 3G the phone would be fully functional. just stuck using GPRS/Edge for Data.

So in other words it would not be fully functional, and if on T-Mobile a waste of money.

Basicly.... unless u dont need data..
Would it really hurt them just to make it so it would run every frequency?

found the answer in case anyone was wondering:
"T-Mobile uses 1700 Mhz to recieve and 2100 Mhz to transmit."

i looked into bringing in a HTC Desire from UK as it's in Tmo's lineup there and
found that Tmo USA uses different freq band for 3g here - they use AWS IV which is 1700/2100
the 2100 is for download and the 1700 for upload - the UK HTC Desire only had 2100, no 1700 band
found out that without both sides, Tmo USA network will not network with the phone at 3G, only 2G
so unless it's a TMO USA phone you're buying, the answer is no
Thanks for the info

So yea I have a vibrant and I'm about to unlock it to att, yes I know "why didn't you just get the captivate" well the captivate (vibrant for att) has an ugly design and att blocks non market apps so yea.
My question is because I heard that someone had 3g from att on the vibrant, is this possible,?
Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using XDA App
An unlocked Vibrant will get 3G service on some of ATTs older 3G towers. They are slowly phasing them out though. So if you happen to be in an area that uses the old towers your will get 3G but eventually those towers will be converted and you will lose 3G forever.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I had called att and asked if they had maps to show 850 vs 1900 but they could only show coverage of 3g just if they had it or not.
I don't know how long before they phase out 1900 but I don't think they're just going to take it down until they've added enough new towers to cover / overlap what they already have. Plus they should be working on lte rolling out next year.
I have vibrant with 3g on att. Speeds seem decent - getting about 1800 kbps down and 1600 kbps up.

I've been searching around and I can't get a definite answer...
Can the vibrant pick up the AT&T 850 MHz 3G network? Is there any way to turn on this feature?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yes. The 1900mhz I believe as well. Idk what you search but Google "Vibrant on at&t 3G"

Use SGS Tools. Select secret codes. Scroll down to band selection and it will give you all the options.

Are you using the correct APN settings?
Don't really know what mine is set on but im running bionix v and my vibrant is unlocked and it works perfectly on 3g att so it will run on 3g

I can get 3G in other areas, but not here, which leads me to believe it's just a 850 MHz band.
I can take out the SIM and put it in an iPhone and it picks up 3G just fine, whereas the vibrant is stuck on edge. It's frustrating to keep having to reboot the phone to pop out the SIM

Its got to be unlocked doesn't it to work on att 3g network don't it?
Here we go again...
Here we go again. If you are referring to the T-Mobile USA Vibrant, it does not have support for 850Mhz UMTS bands. Period. The FCC says so. That is pretty definitive as far as I am concerned. It does not matter what some piece of software shows you. The hardware is not capable as it sits in the T-Mobile USA Vibrant. Search the FCC database for the Vibrant. GSM 850Mhz ≠ UMTS 850Mhz.
Pretty sure it's just 1900MHz. The FCC documents would have included the 850MHz band if it was really there.
Edit: Lol, yeah what he said.

Thanks for clearing it up now comes the dilemma of deciding whether to use the vibrant or an iPhone that uses the 3G speeds...
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Tmobile Vibrant does have capability to operate on ATT 3G network.
I could get it working with iphone sim card.
Specification also includes ATT frequencies.
Att is using two frequencies for 3G.
If it don't run on 3g then why does my vibrant have a 3g data icon and is blazing fast on it?

It runs on 3G in areas where AT&T uses 1900MHz for 3G. It runs on Edge in areas where AT&T only uses 850MHz for 3G.

Precisely.
The Vibrant does not have 850mhz 3g support. Only AWS(1700)/PCS(1900)/IMT(2100) 3g support.
Wow...just wow. Seriously, the FCC does not generally lie about things like this. And no, I don't think it is a big conspiracy in this case...lol

I'm not sure what this is about. Maybe it's just wishful thinking run amok...seems like most of these people either want to switch to AT&T or bought the phone intending to use it on AT&T, have since found out that it won't work in their area, and are refusing to ultimately admit to themselves that it won't work.
People like to think to themselves, "Well, maybe the FCC screwed up and I DO have a pentaband (or quadband?) 3G phone." The slightest bit of uncertainty encourages such thoughts...there are threads with jokers enabling the fake 850MHz menu selection and exclaiming, "OMG, I have AT&T 3G on 850MHz" when they already had it on 1900MHz. People who bother googling the question ahead of time will no doubt find some older, confusing threads.(Albeit they will hopefully find more and more threads with people like us saying "No, it's not in the FCC docs," etc.)
We should have a sticky or something about this lol.
Yes, I googled it and found conflicting reports which is why I came here to clear it up.
Thanks again

Maybe. If it works on 1700Mhz and can use HSPA+ it will be able to do 3G. If it only gets 1900Mhz with GSM then it can do Edge.

They are working nationwide on putting 3g not just on their 1700/2100 classic 3g frequencies but the more standard 1900 MHz since their Edge uses that frequency.

All,
I cannot keep all the frequencies and bands straight, but it would be awesome if this phone worked on ATT, especially 4G. Becuase this has a removable battery and SD card.

I don't live in the US, but I think VZW uses 700 for LTE and AT&T uses 1700/2100 for LTE. Correct me if I'm wrong.

ATT uses 700Mhz block b and AWS (1700/2100) in some areas
Verizon uses 700Mhz block a.
To answer your question OP, you'll have GSM/Voice, but no HSPA or LTE
Ok. Thanks. This is a no go.

If you ask questions like this it would really help if you supply the bands used by the carrier.
Seems t-mobile operates AWS in U.S. so that would be 1700/2100
Please note the spec list on the linked page is dodgy as duck, the battery supplied with the Korean versions is 2600 (two are supplied, plus a charger) and not the listed 3000
And the phone supports a lot more bands than listed there
