I have been using my NC for a couple of months now, running the OC kernel and the latest nightlies. I decided that I would buy one for my wife and do the same thing.
When I put my trustie SD card in the new NC to flash it, it boots merrily to the 1st NC color video prior to 1st setup. I took the card out and put it in my other NC and it boots tinto recovery manager. I took it out and put it back in the new one and it boots back to the video.
I went back to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227 and rebuilt my card. I repeated the process I outlined above with the same resulyts.
Whta's up. Why won't my NC boot of the card?
It sounds silly but can you try on another different NC, not yours or the new one, just to eliminate the new NC that might have a bad uSD socket.
OK I found a 3rd NC and tried the SDcard in it. Boots to recovery fine. Still won't boot in the problem NC
So, your golden uSD does indeed boot on your current and the 3rd Nook while it won't boot on your newly-wify Nook. It sounds like the new NC has some problem with the uSD socket.
Can you return or exchange it?
I bought it used. I do have a couple receipts from B&N ebay that I've purchased recently. Do you think I could use one of them?

Hi,
I've searched the forums but haven't found a solution to my problem. I rooted my Nook Color (1.1.0) using auto-nooter 3.0. Everything worked fine, then I tried to flash to CM7 using CWM. When I subsequently rebooted, the Nook goes into a boot loop where it never gets past the "Touch the Future of...." display before it reboots.
I've can't get into ADB because the unit reboots before I can get access. Also tried booting into CWM (3.0.0.5 and 3.0.1) on an SD Card. When I do this, it shows the "loading..." display for a few seconds then reverts to the boot cycle. Also tried nooter 0.2 but same result.
Tried doing 8 successive boot cycles by trying to turn it off before it reboots, but no luck.
I've noticed that others have had boot issues also, but it seems that everyone else has been able to eventually boot back into CWM via SD card.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would definitely appreciate the help.
Thanks.
I experienced this exact problem and never did get it working. I was running Nookie Froyo on SD with overclock when it suddenly started rebooting. Doesn't matter if the card is in or out, it gets to the point you describe and reboots. All of the "restore to stock' tricks failed because it keeps rebooting, even when booting into CWM from SD. I ended up replacing it with another new NC and put the the first one in storage hoping I someday figure out the problem. I've never found anyone else with quite this problem. I'll be anxiously watching this thread!
Not sure whether I should start to panic because you never got it working, or feel relieved because I am not the only one to experience this issue
You can add another person who is having this problem.
Yesterday I asked Rom manager to boot into recovery and that was all she wrote.
The nook gets through "Touch the future of reading," then the screen flashes for a fraction of a second before repeating the process again.
Holding 'n' and power while booting also has no affect; and it seems to ignore whatever is in the SD card slot.
Got it working!
Not exactly how this worked but here is what I did.
First off I used another SD Card Reader Although the idea of using another card reader doesn't seem to make sense; I had seen it on another forum.
I also Used a new uSD card
Used Win32DiskImage to burn the image to the uSD card (had been using DD on a linux box)
The images used was the Clockwork Recovery image (2GB,) look around and you should be able to find it.
I also copied the removeclockwork.zip
This should be available with a google search as well
From there it just worked like it was supposed to. The nook booted off the micro SD card and I used the removecwr.zip
Hope this helps
A few days ago, I received my Nook and used a youtube tutorial to install CM7 to SD. All went well (i'm in love with the thing), however I decided I wanted update past the last stablae release that I initially installed in order to use the Nook Tweaks app. Here's where the problem came in...in my Noobishness, I didn't yet know there were differences between updating on the image that I was told to use on youtube (Generic Nook-2GB-SDCard-CW3010-VGCM7InstallerAsALTinMultiBoot-v6.zip) and the other ones i've seen around. This led to mass confusion and a really silly error...and this is where I need help.
I ended up taking the update, and putting it on the same partition that my media is on and installing it from Clockwork Recovery. Don't ask me where I got the idea, because I don't know. I've since read enough to understand that that was NOT the correct thing to do. It updated and messed up my emmc. I can boot up CM7 just fine from SD card, however when I boot into stock Nook, it doesn't happen and boots into Clockwork Recovery. What's the best way to get the emmc back to stock, and still keep my SD Card in tact and then upgrade to the latest nightly? From what I understand, installing updates is actually really simple with this image...drop it on /boot, then boot up in SD/Alternate? Also, is there any reason I shouldn't update to newest one?
I know what you are going through.
A lot of the information out there regarding the installation of CM7 is outdated, unintentionally cryptic, or in rare cases just plain wrong. It is because of this that I have been very reluctant to move from a stable SD based CM7 to EMMC.
@OP, your case, 2 separate issues
1. Getting your NC back to stock
2. Getting CM7 update on your uSD.
Item 2 is fairly easy and a lot less hassle than item 1.
Item 2: assuming yr bootable uSD is still good, copy the CM7 nightly build into the root folder ("boot" partition), remove the uSD off the PC, insert it into the NC, booting up.
It will go straight in CM7, wait until it finishes loading, then reboot and select "recovery" option. Now, sit tight and let the NC does it own thing (you do not have to do anything else) until it shut down. You then power it back on. That's it.
Item 1: search for the "Stock 1.2" thread in this forum, download the file, read the instructions how to restore.

Thanks so much, man. This all seems pretty simple, i'll fix it all tonight. One question though, i've got the part where I drop it in boot...but when I power it back up, I select to boot it in SD/Recovery? Or do I boot it in SD/Alternate like what I used to put the stable version in?
I am at a loss. I got this working just fine and then started tweaking things and ended up jacking my NC and restoring it.
I wiped out and reformatted my SD card and did the verygreen method all over again. I want to run CM7 off my SD card. Everything went smooth and I saw no errors.
The first night I charged my NC over night and woke to found the battery drained and it wouldn't charge until I removed the SD card. After that I got the boot loop.
Came home and redid it all over. Once again it worked wonderfully until I restarted my NC and then it gets stuck in the boot loop again.
I have started fresh and have no idea why the issues. I have the latest stable and gapp. Am I doing something wrong in settings? Do I need to mess with ROM Manager at all if booting from the SD card?
Back up and running but still needing questions above answered.
Is there a thread that helps with CM7 or ROM settings after a successful install?
I just want to be sure I am not changing settings that are causing this. I downloaded Nook Tweaks this go around and not sure if that would give me issues. I didn't do this the previous times when I didn't have problems.

What kind of card are you using? Anything other than a SanDisk Class 2 or 4 can cause strange instability.
16GB Transcend Class 6. I guess I will search for a Sandisk Class 4 and see if that doesn't solve everything. One day it works perfect and the next it melt downs when I have made no changes. Maybe you are correct and it is simple as that.
I don't know how you doing but reading what you said ".... until I removed the SD card. After that I got the boot loop.", it doesn't make any sense, maybe you have done something wrong? because booting ROM off uSD shouldn't have any ill effect on the local internal OS.
You still have a boot loop w/o the uSD plugged?
What CM7 version are you using?
Also, are you using Rom Manager, or just Clockwork Mod Recovery directly to install CM7? Idk if things have changed, but when I was on an sd-card install, Rom Manager would always want to install things to emmc so it was easier to reboot into recovery and install updates manually.
I was also using an "off brand" sd card and would get force closes on apps. It might be possible, but I would suspect this is more of an installation issue than something with the card. That said, Sandisks are still supposed to offer the best reliability and performance.
You should only have a normal Nook Color OS come up every time you boot with the uSD out. It sounds like you may have flashed your emmc somewhere along the way.
I had a similar boot loop situation when i was trying to charge over USB with a dead battery (the nook kept restarting and running out of juice mid boot.) It corrupted my emmc CM7 somehow and it was fixed by reflashing once i had charged it from the wall plug.
Verygreen's method doesn't require rom manager.
Sorry for any confusion. I am not having any problem with the NC booting when I remove the card.
I just ordered a 16GB Class 4 Sandisk and I am going to give that a try. This current install is working fine but I haven't messed with any settings really.
Hi. Ok so I rooted my NC to CM7 sometime last year, and now with all the blah about markets not working and having to do more about it, not to mention the PIA it is to get books on, I decided to put it back to stock. Which apparently was a big mistake.
First I mounted an older version of clockwork to the SD card, then when I figured that out (having format data error) I did the newer 3.2.x.x one. So that went good, I went through the steps and reformated data and system, and then went to upload the zip from the choose zip part, but it says there are no files. So I backed out, took out the SD and put it in my computer(Macbook pro) to try to put it in again but it wont show up at all? I tried looking in Disk Utility too and its not there. Any ideas where my card is? What do I do next?? I have nook complete restore 1.0.1, 1.0.0 and nook color update 1.4.1 on my desktop, I thought I had 1.0.1 on the SD card.
I've been reading and googling all over, I can't find what could've made my SD card disappear?
Thanks, I know you must get these all the time and I really appreciate your help-
Ok I didn't do anything, but it just started up to the little silver N and is now sitting there? Is that a good thing?
Don't panic. The NC is very hard to permanently brick. From what you've described, it sounds like your SD card may have gone bad or been corrupted. I'd just try again.
The 'n' logo is a good thing, but if it hangs there, be sure you've followed all the steps carefully. That's typically a sign that /data wasn't formatted, though from your description, you got that step.
Sorry I can't offer up anything more specific. Do be aware that you can restore back to 1.3 if you don't want to go back to 1.01
It happened to me and what I did is plugged my sdcard into my android phone and format it and start over again.
I did that couple time during first attempt to install CM7 on my nook
Hope this helps ! Good luck!
Try plug it into different computer(s) along with using usb-adapter.
The Eausus Partition program works well to wipe/format cards too...
A friend of mine recently picked up a Nook Color (silver bezel, if thy matters). As I already have a NC (dark grey bezel), I was asked to install CM on his as well. Easy enough...
I installed made a twrp boot card and put a ROM on it, inserted it into his nook and booted. The problem is, it booted normally into the stock ROM.
First thing I thought to try was to verify the recovery was correctly done, so I inserted the card into my nook and booted it... no issues at all.
I put the card back into his nook to make sure the sd port works, and it does.
Second attempt was with cwm, again, no luck... and again, my NC booted from the card without issue.
I've tried with two different cards now... a class 4 2gb ad a class 4 16gb. Both work in my nook and both read fine if you are booted into the stock nook rom, but his nook simply will not boot from them.
What am I missing here?
I've read through quite a few threads on the subject and the standard response is to tey a new card reader... but why would one nook boot fine and the other one not if it was a card reader?
Nook Color or Nook Tablet?

Wait, isn't the silver bezel the Nook Tablet, not a Nook Color? The Tablet uses a different bootloader, so the NC card won't work in it.
Oh holy crap, I missed the most obvious thing in the world! There really are no telltale signs when booting it up, and I didn't have the documents with me last night. Says nook tablet right on the quick tart guide that came with it.
Thank you.
