I've used Thumb Keyboard for too long to switch. Swiftkey is nice on my phone, but without all the extra characters in the center like Thumb has, I'll have to pass.

Just got a new Verizon Galaxy Tab and am wondering if the DroidX multi touch keyboard can be instaled on it? I found an apk floating around but it seemed to be a 2.1 port and force closed as soon as i installed.

I think there was a thread about this at one point, and no one had much luck with it. I tried at least 4 different versions of the apk, including one that was supposed to work on 2.2 but no dice. I'm assuming someone with some skill may be able to modify it to work at some point. People suggested getting Smart Keyboard Pro from the market instead, so I gave it a shot. Costs a couple bucks, but it works amazing, and has just as good multitouch, if not better than the Droid x's.

Kool. Just downloaded the trial version and am using it now. Seems to be very similar to the Droid x.

Hey Everyone! I've mostly been pleased with the stock keyboard packaged with Hashcode's CM9 release. However, I want a keyboard that splits down the middle when the Fire is turned into landscape mode. I'm trying out Swiftkey 3 now, and liking it so far. What keyboards have people thought were especially well suited to the fire?
Thumb keyboard

I use thumb keyboard as well.
thumb keyboard by far.. i use type 2 7" layout and it makes typing sooo much better..
Hrm ok, I'll give Thumb Keyboard a whirl next. Looks like there isn't a free version for me to try though.
Is there anyway to get a trial of the thumbs keyboard?

I use SwiftKey. I never type in landscape so it works great for me.
SwiftKey Tablet 3..... My favorite by a mile. Not only for split keyboard, but for the great work that they have done with predictions
Works great on both 10 and 7 tabs

I've tried I think all of them and I regularly switch back to Thumb Keyboard and the new Swype Beta. Thumb for landscape and Swype for portrait. If I had to choose, i'd stick with Thumb though.
I love the Swype Beta (in portrait mode). Plus the Hacker keyboard for connectbot.
Can't find Swype beta, is it under a different name?

I keep coming back to swype, in fact it was the reason I initially rooted my kindle fire.
Thanks, got it.
Not bad, but no easy a access to the asterisk *, very odd. I don't think I've ever had to search for such a basic key before :-(

I've been using both Swype Beta and Hacker keyboard for the same things. I've been through a number of keyboards and Swype beta has been my favorite for general use. I was using Thumb keyboard for connectbot until I discovered hacker keyboard a couple weeks ago and haven't looked back.
So, as far as I know, this should be able to control PC's too, and maybe PS3's. But, I've only tried this on other Android devices. Should control anything on CM7.X, or anything on any form of Android 3.0, 4.0, and 4.1.
Prerequisites(Epic 4G specific):
Has to be on an AOSP based ROM(CM, AOKP, Paranoid, etc)
Step 1.) Enable Bluetooth on your Epic 4G and other Android device.
Step 2.) Pair the devices together
Step 3.) Now, install "BluePutDroid" on your Epic from the Play Store.
Step 4.) Open BluePutDroid, hit the Start key on the top left
Step 5.) Swipe up the "Log" bar to make sure there were no errors. If there were, try step 4 again.
Step 6.) Tap the device you want to connect to(your other Android device)
Step 7.) When it finishes loading, the screen should be green. Swipe on this to move the mouse on the other android device. Tap once to click on the other device, and hold down till the screen turns red to do things like scrolling, drag and drop, etc.
If the S/W keyboard shows up, hit menu "Toggle Soft Keyboard" to hide it. If it keeps enabling itself, install "Null Keyboard" from the Play Store and set that as your input method while using BluePutDroid. Also, the H/W keyboard works great. So you can use that to type, or navigate with the Dpad
This app works on other devices as well, but I can't go into great detail on ROM compatibility and such.
If your device has CM7/9/10 or any AOSP based ROM, this will work.
This will work on the (rooted) stock ROM of some devices, such as Nexus S(all forms), Galaxy Nexus(all forms), and Galaxy S3 (all forms)
On other's it will not work on the stock ROM, regardless of root, such as Galaxy S(entire first series), and many older HTC devices(not sure of newer ones).
According to the app developer, this is kernel related and nothing he can do; if it works, it works. if it doesn't, get.cm
Thanks! I'll look into this.

I can confirm that this works with windows and linux - I've been using this app for nearly a year, and it works well
But I didn't know it worked with other CM devices - that's an awesome find

Would this work if the other device doesn't have bluetooth?
Amazing stuff though, I wish my netbook had bluetooth that would have made it even more amazing lol.

It connects through bluetooth and sends commands through bluetooth... so sure, why not?

Lol. There is an app called WiFi Keyboard that'll let you type using your Epic, but its not near as awesome as this. And all text gets sent through in Caps lock

There's apps for PCs similar to this. Like RemoteDroid and gPad. I'd prefer gPad because it has many other uses, like controlling windows media player, microsoft powerpoint, and using it as a mouse/keyboard obviously. But again, it's over WiFi. Bluetooth is beta AFAIK.

This app has been around for at least a year - the benefit of bluetooth is faster response times than over wifi. I think that's partly the result of the direct connection, and partly because the wifi methods involve a computer-side server (often using vnc, which uses some processing time to send a live stream of the screen, even if the connected client app doesn't need it, such as with a remote kb/mouse app)

I can also vouch for this on the ps3. Donate, help him out and no ads.
My wife was giving me **** "you are so techy, why can't you ruin the ps3 with your phone". So i googled and XDAed until i found this app.

I love to log on while the wife is using the computer. Move the mouse as shes trying. Priceless. I use advance touchpad. Its via wifi but very responsive, and it gives me all the keys. I have to be able to windows key + p to switch to my TV.

Swype is available for Windows 7 in the Samsung Slate 7 downloads. It acted weird enough on Win7 that I didn't load it on Win8; but I bet it'll work.

So how to get one's hand on it, when one doesn't posses an S7S?
Will this do? http://www.intowindows.com/swype-keyboard-for-windows/

yeah i asked about this earlier http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580190 not much since then
I believe BASW-13533A19.ZIP older version had wider compatibility
Old thread, I know, but since I did not see it mentioned and I have looked myself, you might want to try TouchPal http://www.touchpal.com/en/index.html
Looks a lot like swype. The default keyboard has too many downsides for me, so I am hoping this one is better. Rather slow download though, so I havent tried yet.
Has anyone heard any news at all about a possible Note 10.1 port for N10? I'm waiting for some of that MULTI-WINDOW love on this beast of a machine. I've Google searched to no avail and have been scouring the various developer forums over countless websites in search of this white whale. Some has got to be working on this. If I knew how, I would be.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk HD
The multi windows is so buggy... just by watching some of the reviews it doesn't work half the time, or not in the way that the user wants it to work - switching between the apps is good enough for me.
I only asked asked about it because I am a college student and would love to have my chemical equations pdf open in one window while I'm inputing stats into the calculator side by side.

Plus, I know it won't be as simple as porting the multi-window function. The entire touchwiz sytle rom would have to be ported.

You can give this a try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ragingtools.tinyappslite
It's not exactly what you want, but close to it. Also a multiwindow browser: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.appestry.split_browser_trial
I saw that... So i guess maybe one day...

There was a thread somewhere about this, from a guy who was starting to work on it and wanted a hand. I don't have the link for it but I think the development was called Cornerstone, could try googling that?
