Hi people a noob question:
I'm on stock V20G 2.3.3 rom just rooted and I want to install this battery theme with power-menu too :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1141490
I tried, but my phone reboot and reboot. Can't switch off.I need to unplug the battery.Does it requires a deodexed rom?Or I need to do some cache clean after install? Now I've reverted with nandroid backup, but I really like that theme.
Ok nevermind, solved.I've cooked by myself a mod in UOT Kitchen. It works perfectly.
can u pls post it here

also had the same problems after flashing that zip so i gave up...
give us the details! it's a must have
K,here it is my uot file.
No powermenu anyway.Too complicated for me.Just blue theme circular battery and different font
Hope you like guys.
doesn't work for me made my status bar disappear
;-D
u need to have a Deodexed ROM to implement that, ROM's which are not deodexed will give errors,
just follow the Steps on the main thread and patch the v2 update and everything works smooth
the whole process took me just 15mins now i m on gingerbread 2.3.3 v2 with franco's latest kernel and the circular battery and power menu mod.
read before u start messing with ur phone ppl
;-)
My rom is not deodexed, it is the standard stock LG rom, with root and custom kernel V3 by PaoloM (author of gingerlol rom).
Try to erase cache and reflash the zip.
Otherwise try to learn OUT Kitchen as I did,it's not difficult
same thing happened to me
i am on gingerlol 1.5 i think it is deodexed
i also tried cooking one on uot kitchen but it is giveing me recovery error (Status 0) and the workaround is also not helping
also power menu shows null instead of recovery and reboot menu
help
I have the same setup like you have bilbo75 (stock 2.3.3 rooted with v3 paolo kernel) .
Do you think it will work on my phone?
I ask because i tried earlier to use ringnofade from paolo and i had no gsm afterwards.
I tried the kitchen too and it works well for stock 2.3.3 rom

You have already a rooted rom.Install Cyanogen ROM Mik's 6.5.8. I already did it.Really awesome(Thanks Mik!)If you are scaried to change the baseband, you can flash Cyanogen 7.2.0 of Adfad666 here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436952#5 (The N-series is for new baseband like your phone). Then you will find tons of themes (here and on the market) for the app "Theme Chooser".
If you still prefer stick with stock rom, read the istructions on UOT Kitchen's site. There isn't any black magic.Just read carefully and do a Nand Backup before !!!

customizing
Hello ppl,
I'm using UOT Kitchen from http://uot.dakra.lt and i can tell you that is working with odexed and deodexed roms for any patch that would you like to apply to your stock rom or custom rom.
The customized POWER MENU MOD+circular battery that bilbo75 is asking for is only for deodexed Gingerbread stock or custom roms. If anyone that is on stock or custom rom will flash this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1141490) POWER MENU MOD+circular battery on a odexed rom will get into bootloop.
Also who would like to have ringnofade on their Optimus one there is a solution for both odexed and deodexed, stock or custom Gingerbread roms.
So Gingerbread users stock or custom roms, odexed and deodexed for RingNoFade you have to follow these steps:
0. You must be rooted to can apply the patch.
1. Download RingNoFade from this link http://www.multiupload.com/WVF9LLTMCT and put it in the root of SD CARD not in any directory
2. Reboot in recovery (I use clockworkmod)
3. Make Backup for further restore in case something goes wrong
4. Wipe dalvik-cache and wipe cache partition (Wipe dalvik-cache is in Advanced into Clockworkmod)
5. Choose: Install zip from SD CARD and select the ringnofade_2.3.3.zip
6. Flash it
7. Reboot.
After flashing is taking a while to boot because you have wiped dalvik-cache and cache partition but this is because the system has to rebuild them so don't worry it will boot.
If you don't wipe dalvik-cache and cache partition you will get FC (force close) and NO SERVICE.
Have fun with flashing. I'm not responsible if you brick your phone.

I did read up the differences between odex and deodex roms.. but one small query..
how do i determine if My ROM is odex or deodex?
I'm on stock rooted GB..
Thanks in advance
check with Root Explorer or any other app like Root Explorer in /system/app and /system/framework for *.odex files. If you have them you are odexed.
If you just rooted your phone from non-rooted stock rom, then for sure your are odexed.

HI all i foolw every step of AlphaRev X: mod successfully patched my phone than follow this guide Via PC49IMG Process successfully.
my questions are as follows.
1. thats all i need to done before flashing a custom rom..?
2. After flashing a custom rom if wanna go back to stock one is it possible to do that if yes than how??
3. While using a patched phone or custom rom os phone is it safe to restore phone to factory defaluts??
Please answer ASAP...
1) Yes
2) To the Stock ROM Yes, it is possible. But, not completely stock, as in, your S-OFF will still be S-OFF.
3) I wouldn't recommend it. There seems to be issues with many users with many aspects when they are factory resetting after getting S-OFF / Custom Recovery.

what types of issue can u plz provide me some details??
how to flash the stock ROM??
Please suggest any best good rom to flash yaar?
It seems Wallpapers go missing, Settings dont work, Widgets dont work, stuff like that. There was a thread here somewhere, seems to be lost.
For ROMs, it depends whether you need Sense or not. If you are fine without Sense, take a look at Cyanogenmod 7, and, if you need Sense, take a look at ROMs like JokerDroid and WildPuzzle.
A Complete list can be found here: (Part 2)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
To restore to Stock ROM, simply select a safe flash RUU from Part 5 of the same post, and flash it, the ROM will be restored to stock. Alternately, take a Nandroid backup of your Stock ROM, and restore it later, which will again give you back your Stock ROM

I'm also using cm7. I haven't really faced any major bugs. Most of them are not bugs really. Only thing maybe is gps issue which will be fixed by reflashing the radio.
Reg., themes yes u can have theme chooser themes. And u can use theme Chooser application in the app drawer to apply it.

AT&T Gingerbread KH3 2.3.4
Here is a deodexed, zip-aligned, rooted, de-bloated CWM zip file to flash the new leaked AT&T KH3 Gingerbread 2.3.4!
Please make sure you are on AT&T Gingerbread bootloaders and on an RFS file system.
Get AT&T Gingerbread bootloaders here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129821 (Thanks, Cezar!)
If coming from Cognition 5v2 or Atomic Fusion KF1 roms, convert back from EXT file system in CWM.
As of right now you will lose CWM flashing until a KH3 CWM kernel is developed.
EDIT 9/26/11: Boog created a CWM enabled kernel here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1242533
This is a wipe release - - backup all files (I use Titanium Backup).
Download here: http://www.multiupload.com/J8MW42HK9C
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
1.) Save zip file to sd card.
2.) Reboot to CWM recovery.
3.) Wipe Data/Factory Reset
4.) Clear Cache
5.) Clear Dalvik Cache
6.) Install zip file
7.) Enjoy stock KH3 base rom!
So this is just a pure deodexed ROM, no code changes? I started doing it, but I don't have any batch scripts written yet, I've been doing it manually with smali, baksmali and winrar.
Allot of work...
Yes...pure stock, deodexed, rooted, no AT&T BS.

There should be an option around there. I believe its in advance, not sure to be honest.
Just tried to install this from stock JF6 via CWM update.zip after flashing the KF1 bootloaders and I get a never-ending bootloop every time I try to turn the phone on. Any ideas?
Also, I don't believe there is an option to convert back to RFS in CWM recovery on Cog5, I'm not sure about AtomicFusion.
You may want to try flashing a KF1 Rom such as the original Cog 5 and not v2 which converts automatically to EXT. Then try flashing this rom
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
There may be an option to turn lagfix off but I think the EXT conversion is not done by CWM but by a script made by DG.

Probably but you need to read the instructions for the rom you install .
jje
if you have root then you most probably have cwm recovery. go there and just flash the galnet over litening
Yep just make sure you factory reset, wipe data/cache etc (note, make sure to back up apps, SMS etc, as they will be wiped)
you will need to format /system, and preferably /sdcard also. This is not optional.

OK, I searched a little bit in the web and i found up that the lite'ning comes with a cwm, root, and build recovery mode. so all i got to do is to wipe and instal.

does it matters if i'll install it again?
so what you are saying is to skip the part of the root and install the rom over lite'ning yes?

yep. just turn off your phone and press volume up+home+power buttons to boot into cwm recovery. from there you can wipe /data, format /system then flash galnet miui update .zip
you don't have to install cwm afaik litening has it already
MIUI ROM installed sucssesfuly

Where did you get the kernal?
Apologies if this question is fundamentally stupid, I am a noob and have never tried modifying a ROM.
My question is if I can copy a CWM kernel zip file contents into a CWM ROM zip file and flash my phone without breaking / bricking my phone.
Background Info
I typically try and run the latest leaked stock ROM.
At the moment it is EH17.
I swap out the kernel for the plus kernel so that I can run ext4
I'm looking to start trying out some themes
I recently watched qbking77's video on how to uninstall a theme
Its essentially just just re-flash your CWM ROM
I would like to be able to flash without having to swap file systems every time.
Will extracting the ROM zip, overwriting files with kernel zip contents, rezipping, and flashing my phone cause problems?
Thanks for any help you can offer
Hmm, if you are just running a stock rom, you dont need to uninstall anything. You can just download a EH17 theme (or whatever type of ROM you are on), boot into CWM, wipe cashe and dalvik cashe 3 times each and then choose install from sdcard and choose the theme you want to flash.
Now if you want to try another one after that, do the same process. Wiping the cashes and flashing the theme is all you need to do.

No, just install 2nd-init recovery (search the Defy Forums\CM7 threads here) then flash away . Our bootloader is locked up like a con in a SuperMax with a triple life sentence. I'm getting ready for work so I don't have time to hotlink.

Edit: on a side note, I've had issues restoring my JB nand from the cm7 recovery. I get "error restoring system" in the middle of a nand restore. It also completely screws up mounts and the only thing I can do is install a ROM from scratch. The md5 checks out as well. Any ideas?

JB has a newer recovery. Install a JB rom then restore the nand of the JB backup.
Flash JB rom (cache\data wipes don't matter since you won't be booting into the system)
Reboot directly into recovery (don't let the system boot up, even once)
Restore JB Backup as usual
This is actually a common problem with Defy users running older MS2 roms trying to flash JB -- the different recovery versions can be a pita to deal with sometimes; but its usually fixed by flashing a rom with a compatible recovery version then restoring the nand afterwards.
While I won't go into the full details, you can also take the recovery from a JB rom and a GB rom and make them into a flashable zips -- basically open the rom's zip and delete all the /system folders except /system/bootmenu and edit the rom's updater-script to only set permissions to /system/bootmenu. It would also be a good idea to add in ramdisk backup commands as well (the init.rc files under 2nd-init and 2nd-boot) since they can change from rom to rom. Once all that's done you'll be able to flash the required recovery version for the nand you intend to restore or flash the JB recovery after flashing any rom and have an up-to-date recovery with an older rom. If you use multiboot it would be a good idea to merge it into your new recovery zip as well.
/About to test a CM7 port with many tweaks -- if it boots I'll start adding in some market apps and finish it up later today . Then its off to start updating PA with a Custom Kernel . I may have to drop MS2 PA support if the MS2's Custom Kernel differences makes it incompatible with the Defy base
