Updates and Events problem

I'm having a problem with the 'events and updates feature' retrieving updates from facebook.
When I select the 'update now' option in the 'updates and events' section for a contact it never retrieves any facebook information for any of the contacts.
All of my contacts are correctly linked to their facebook accounts but the application never picks up ANY updates.
Any ideas? I'm on O2 btw

your "me" contact card needs to be logged in, check that, also in the pictures tab, albums, switch to facebook tab..can you see their pictures?
if not you're not logged in.

yes I can see my 'me' contact card in the updates and events and can also see the facebook pictures in the facebook tab so it appears to be logged in fine.

I dont use facebook so cant really suggest anything else. I do know from the missus that fbook website has been flakey for her this past week or two, and i'm sure i read they are currently moving datacenters or something, so who knows. Maybe your friends just all stopped updating!

I dont really know how the application itself works, but for me, the updates seem to take a while (as an indication, about 3 or 4 minutes for 500 friends over wifi - dont know how big a difference the number of friends make). I've got to keep touching the screen so that it doesn't go into "sleep" mode otherwise it stops and I have to start again.
If I leave the screen on the "Updates and Events" page while it says "Updating...", the info will not automatically update even once all the data has been downloaded. I have to move across to another page (eg, Favourites, Groups, etc and then scroll back to see the actual updates.

it say ( updating...) when i click update now
but then the (updating ..) dissapears and nothing updated !!!!
but when i click update on a selected contact .. it become update !!!!

Facebook updates working only for some contacts
For me it works for some contacts but not for all.
Just got my HD2 2 days ago, so so far only 10 people/contacts are linked to facebook.
- 9 fail to deliver/retrieve updates,
- 1 works
I noticed that the one status update that I received was really new, so I just wonder if there is somewhere a setting on how old the status updates can be, to be seen on the HD2.
I also had on unanswered event request, that one worked well.
One more issue, I can browse the album of almost all facebook contacts, but it's not working for one. does anybody know what could be the reason. Are only alboms which are set to be viewed by anybody browsable by HD2 (not the ones only visible to friends)?

I had the same issue, worked for a few days then would attempt to update, appeared to do so but no new info present.
Ended up having to go to Start/settings/data services/social networks and turn off facebook and then do it again.
After this for some strange reason it now works and has continued to for weeks.

Refreshing Facebook Contact Photo

Hello All,
Am new to HTC Android Phone. I have setup my contacts photos to be picked up from the respective Facebook Profiles. Although this happened the first time, if a contact changes the photo on facebook it is not getting updated in the phone? Is there a way to manually force an update??
Facebook sync is enabled (i guess once every 12 hours) and it has been several days since the contact updated the profile pic on FB.

I have the same problem, my contacts aren't updated >.<
Pretty annoying, but I have not found a way yet to fix it. Looks like a problem with facebook for android.

It seems that the facebook sync method doesn't check if the facebook profile pic is updated or not. Probably to save network bandwidth and sync time. But it is kind of annoying that it is not updated.

I have exactly the opposite problem. The pictures assigned to my contacts in google keep getting updated with those in facebook. While I don't mind that for contacts that do not have pictures in Google, it is quite annoying for such that do.

i pressed the sync all widget and all my face book images updated
my legend is rooted and running the modaco rom tho

Strange that it works for you. Can't see how a root or new rom would change anything. I have the same problem, using stock unrooted rom. Kinda hoped it would be fixed with new update, but no luck

I was also facing the problem of getting updated display pic from facebook and thought that there wasn't anyway to solve.. until after i ran into the FriendStream problem.
My FriendStream started acting strange and refuses to update friends' status today, it force closes when i try to launch the application proper. After reading up online, I did what others suggested, remove the facebook account and re-add it to FriendStream.. It got my FriendStream working again, plus a bonus - it "re-linked" with all my contacts in People and updated their profile pics! =D
Might take a while for it to fetch all the display pics again though, so I'd recommend doing it with a WiFi connection

My facebook profile pics update but there is a major delay between 12 and 24 hours) even though facebook and friend screen update every 10 minutes

my FB pictures don't updates, and worse, new FB contacts don't appear in my phone book. when I manually sync my FB account, there is a process that returns an error
the solution I found to force an update was to run friend stream, friends, facebook, menu, update
it takes some time

i know this is an old thread so hoping there was a better fix for this issue? terribly annoying

Doing a refresh in the friendstream app updates the photo in the app but not the contact photo
I have found no way to update the photos till now... have even tried unlinking the Facebook profile from the contact and readding - no use...

Facebook sync (dl09, superclean)

Alright guys, I've searched all over and this question keeps getting asked but no one cares / sees to answer it.
I am having troubles syncing my Facebook Contacts after installing DL09 and Superclean Rom w/ Ad Test Kernal (newest one).
Sync will stop and say "it's currently having problems check again".
I figured making a thread will gather some attention to this issue, as I have searched and found nothing but unanswered questions by fellow members.

I've seen that message every so often and, for me at least, it seems to mean what it says. It's always started working again after waiting some random amount of time and trying again -- though sometimes it took a few days.
I have not found any way around it other than waiting,which leads me to conclude the SNS system just sucks. I'll never understand why Samsung made their own social network sync system when the Facebook and Twitter apps have far-superior systems built-in -- both of which SNS overrides and disables. Yet another benefit of AOSP roms!

Well my brothers phone, without Superclean ROM, works perfectly.
Clearly this issue is connected?

Anyways, can you simplify your question? I'm confused with the way you worded. Did you want facebook sync support from samsung our from the facebook app?

After rereading, do you have touch wiz launcher still installed?
Samsung's facebook requires tw launcher. But you would get fc acore.

We'll now I'm plain confused. I tried my dads facebook login on my phone, worked perfectly (he's got about 30 people). I tried mine again and it says currently experiencing problems. However, it was working perfectly earlier today on my account on DJ05, before I upgraded.
Now I feel like this has nothing to do with superclean, but my account (even though it was working earlier)?
I assume this is Samsung's SNS, how do you sync through the Facebook app?

Yes, I was going to tell you that I have no issues with sync with fb sns. The fb app doesn't sync with this phone.
Try logging in to fb on a computer. There may be a password issue.

The Facebook Android app works perfectly, I've been on it all day and my computer.
I'm thinking, before I upgraded to DJ09 I backed everything up (backup pro). Contacts, call, apps, you name it.
I'm wondering if when I restored it, it corrupt(edly) installed the contacts and the facebook login so maybe because the phone thinks its already connected it wont?

Well, make sure you don't restore system settings. Especially between versions because the settings get funny between versions.

I just bought my Fascinate with DL09 already on it and I'm having the same issue with Facebook not syncing my contacts. My phone is still completely stock so this is an issue with the Samsung software.

[Q] Samsung Feeds & Updates hasn't been working since Saturday

Running DK28 on my Epic 4G, not rooted, haven't made any changes to facebook/twitter or anything on my phone. For some reason the Feeds & Updates widget hasn't updated in a couple days though, I tried to manually make it update and it says network not available (everything else works fine though).
Facebook and Twitter apps are both the latest version and the linked contacts in my contact list are still up to date.
Any ideas guys?

I read that Facebook had an update recently. I was on the Epic's stock version of Facebook; right after the update was offered in the market, I noticed the SNS sync process kept prompting me to log in. The prompt occurred with each sync interval because the sync failed to connect.
The constant prompts and lack of synchronization basically forced me upgrade to this latest update. So far things seem stable, but I'm keeping an eye on my battery consumption. The complaints on this update are lengthy.
Twitter: I dunno. I don't have an account for that service.
As for the actual Samsung widgets, Facebook could have changed something on the back-end that broke the widget for now. Who knows, but this wouldn't explain your Twitter account not displaying feeds.

At first I thought it was due to the recent facebook update, but it started before I downloaded it. I also had a newer version of the app than the stock one with the phone (I think I had 1.5.0, and the update was 1.5.1 - I was using whichever one was the second most recent and first added fb chat).
All other facebook related stuff is working fine apart from facebook contact photos only being shown on the contacts list and not on calls/messages. Twitter works fine too outside of the Samsung widget,

This happened to me this morning. I had to manually sync all my Google Contacts to their respective FB account. When I let FB do it automatically, it did not carry over to SMS.
Answer:
1. Go to settings > Accounts and sync
2. Delete all the accounts(Well, you don't have to delete twitter or google, but the facebook ones)
3. Reboot your phone. [Edit by nikon120: Used to say "Reset", but that is misleading.]
4. Go back into settings > Accounts and sync.
5. Add the facebook account(Under Integrated, not More).
6. To test if this worked, sync a contact to facebook(Long pressing their name, click "Link account", find the account and link them) Their picture should come up.

the feeds & updates widget sync'd earlier today, but now it's busted again
EDIT: Also my contacts are just phone contacts, I don't have them on my google contact list (except for one). It's phone + fb, and one or two twitters.

It's up for a day, down for a day - now it's saying "no feeds to display."

can't sync twitter account contacts

the feature was working just fine before I decided to do a fresh installation of nexusbeam 4.2.3 rom, now I can't sync my twitter account contacts.
I tried to rollback to nexusbeam 4.0.3 to sync twitter contacts but with no luck
I would post this in the NexusBeam thread but I still don't have sufficient post to access the reply feature

actually i had the same problem with a couple of ics roms so went back to cm7.1 and had the problem. In my case it did still sync the contacts just gave the error had to check and uncheck it a couple of times though, so it may be something with twitter.

rolling back to CM7 didn't fix it either, I suspect a leftover preference file from another ROM or something like that is causing the problem.
i will try to do another fresh of stock ROM and report back if it worked.

This problem started on Friday.

Previously (on stock rom) whenever I clicked on the twitter link of any contact in my list I would get an error about twitter not being available.
So contact sync never worked correctly for me

my xperia play sync the contacts without any problem, I think the problem might be related to Google devices only. hope they will fix this soon

Same here. It started Friday. Must be a Twitter problem. I can't sync my contacts on my Nexus S or my Xoom since Friday.

Got the same problems.
I re-installed the stock ICS package (no custom roms, no mods, only the same kernel - Matr1x - I had before wiping) and once I tried to sync my Twitter account it said "Unable to sync etc etc"...
Tried again after a few hours and today again but it keeps saying "unable to sync, connect, rofltrolol and so on..."
Nice to see that I'm not the only one having this problem.
PS: before I re-installed ICS, I did a proper wipe (system, data, boot and so on) so I don't think there is any trace of the previous ROM (however, the previous installation was the same IML74K I set up yesterday, so dunno...)

I thought I was the only one with this problem lol. I was messing around with the sync settings and thought I broke it by accident.
Hopefully it gets fixed soon. It was working a few days ago (or at least since my last full wipe)

Had the same problem did nothing now it is working :s

I don't think it's something we can solve. I think it's something Twitter has to solve.

Ditto. I have an HTC Vivid, stock and unrooted, and this problem started happening on my phone last Friday, 1/20.
Contacts still won't sync. Having read the other posts here, I tried creating a new twitter account in order to determine if it was related to settings associated with my account. I had the same issue with the brand new account.
To be clear-- Messages (tweets) sync just fine, and my account is accessible through the Twitter app, but the contacts added previously to my list by Twitter do not sync.

also twitter contacts still won't sync.
these syncing issues is really getting on my nerve ... I will have eventually to sync my fist into this piece of **** service.

I love how all of us, myself included, are here *****ing about a free service none of us pay for. lol

The issue is with the app-- Not your phone.
Just out of curiosity, I checked the comments on the app, itself, in the android market.
Anyone who is unsure if the contacts sync issue is with the app or some fouled up setting on your phone should check out those comments. You can see them for yourself here.
Multiple complaints that the latest update to the app prevents contacts from being sync'd.
The bad news is you won't get twitter updates on your contact list ("people" app on many android phones) and unless you uncheck the option in accounts, there will be a consistent "fail" warning.
The good news is, the app works fine outside of that one feature and the error is related to the app and not your phone or settings.
I'm sure there will be an update soon enough. In the meantime, just uncheck the sync option or ignore the error warning.
