Acer Recovery. - Acer Iconia A500

In the acre recovery opening page it shows the thor2002 and the Stock USA 1.141.07 Gen 1
If I have the same version as this on my tablet now and I want to install a different ROM do I still need to backup my current Rom or will the one that came with Acer Recovery be fine to use.
Also I watched the video on using the Recovery start up POWER + Volume- and how to navigate this menu. What it didn't cover is a minor thing. How do you navigate up and down in this menu which button do I use to do this.
I know you use the power button to select the option but no mention on what to navigate with.

Thank you
I thought it must be that but wanted to make sure.

you need to make a backup of your ROM using CWM (boot, system, and flexrom at the very least). You don't really need a backup of your stock recovery, since it's included in the installer app already. But the installer app does not include the whole ROM.

Thank you all for the help.
I appreciate it.

Rom manager now works on tattoo

Only tested on SP-FROYO 1.2 with patched Market.
Install rom manager from market. Choose HTC "buzz" aka wildfire when asked and flash recovery. Now choose "boot into recovery" in rom manager.
Amon-Ra´s recovery is now replaced with new recovery.
This is nice

hi
whats special about this i did see this on the market
just wanted to know what special or better than what we already have
you can for example scroll down and push down agin to get on top agin. so it scrolls around.
you can flash roms in folders. for example you have a folder structure like this:
SDcard/-install-/roms/Puzzlerom/all_files_related_to_puzzlerom
SDcard/-install-/roms/AnotherROM/all_files_related_to_AnotherROM
You can "start" your flash from android, so you can use your touch screen to chose what rom to flash. Start rom manager and select file to flash. rom manager will ask if you want to backup you rom and if you want to wipe. it will reboot in to recovery and do your choise made in android. for example, do backup, wipe, and then reboot phone to system auto.
This is just a little thing it can do.

Hello there!
I believe I must be doing some stupid mistake, but I have done this over and over and still no success :S
I have rooted my HTC Tattoo (Vodafone PT), installed ROM Manager, selected it as a Wildfire and installed recovery.
All is good there.
Now the problem is when I try to install HCDR v.17 using ROM Manager, I always get a verification failed :/
Any help?
Best regards!
Me too,I have same trouble...
root already by universal androot, then use rom manager and choose wildfire
it shows Successfully downloaded Clockworkmod recovery, but still can't enter
recovery mode,after that...I re-entry rom manager,it shows recovery broken~
My god~what can I do?

trackpad don't click how install new rom?

hey thanks for reading my mytouch 4g track pad doesn't want to click what is another way to install a rom on recovery thanks
You can install it from the Rom Manager app, I think its a premium feature though.. I always do it from boot recovery and from there all I am aware of is the trackpad button you are trying.
use the camera button to press instead of the trackball...
Before you start, I recommend backing up your text messages and call logs, as these can be restored to any ROM I've tried so far. I recommend using SMS Backup & Restore and Call Logs Backup & Restore by Ritesh Sahu, both available free from the Android Market. Also, back up your apps using Titanium Backup, as it is faster to restore user apps from backup than having to install them again from the Market.
You do not need to purchase premium for ROM Manager to install a ROM from it. To install a ROM from ROM Manager:
1. Download the ROM of your choice.
2. Copy the ROM's ZIP file to your SD card (I recommend you place it in the root of the SD card, i.e., inside no other folder).
3. Open ROM Manager on your phone.
4. Under ROM Management, select Install ROM from SD Card.
5. Select the ZIP file for your ROM from the list.
6. In the ROM Pre-Installation popup window, check all three check boxes, and tap OK.
7. In the Reboot And Install popup window, tap OK. Your phone will reboot into recovery, back up your current ROM, and install the selected new ROM. This process can take from 5 to 15 minutes, depending on the size of the current ROM being backed up and the new ROM being installed.
8. Enjoy your new ROM! Note that on first boot on a new ROM, it will take a long time because the OS is rebuilding the cache.
ETA: Anecdotal evidence time! I just flashed from Virtuous Unity 1.31.0 to RoyalGinger 3.0 just for the fun of it, and it took 11 minutes from hitting OK in step 7 until the ROM booted into initial setup.
the camera button works the same as the trackpad in recovery so its easier...
Please can someone help!!!
I run Virtuous Unity 1.31. All the buttons on my myTouch 4G/Glacier worked fine until last week when I flashed a new kernel (Virtuous Custom Kernel v3).
Here are my problems now:
Trackpad: Before, my trackpad woke the system up but now it doesn't. I've flashed the trackpad wake mod and it still doesn't fix it.
Note: Other than failing to wake the system up, the trackpad's functions are working. It scrolls up/down/side to side just fine through menus, etc.
Power button: In recovery mode, it acts strange - it won't execute the selected menu item. Trackpad scrolls up/down/side to side fine.
Note: Outside of recovery mode, the power button works just fine.
In desperation, I've even flashed a different ROM (Cyanogenmod 7) and the trackpad wake issues I've mentioned above persists in this ROM too.
Please can someone tell me what I should do. I really will appreciate any help you can offer me.
Thank you so much!!!
I use the trackpad to scroll and select in recovery, not the power button.. thats for the hboot menu
In HBOOT, all the commands seem to work for me. I can use Power to execute a selection. But in Recovery, it doesn't work for anything. When I use the trackpad to select, it does nothing. If I use the Power button to execute a highlighted item, it brings me to the circle with hat icon. I have to use the button on the right side of the phone (camera button?) to select a highlighted item. There is something wrong and I can't figure out what to do. Please help!

Don't use the power button to select. Use the trackpad

Well first off, you should ALWAYS make nandroid (ROM manager) backups before flashing any ROM, addon, patch, etc.
That aside, you have a few things to do here. If you didn't make a nandroid backup you should download a ROM.zip file from the Dev section (your choice), and put it on your SDcard. Enter the boot loader (from off) by holding vol. down+power, then selecting 'recovery'. Once in recovery, wipe data/factory reset, and then go to 'install zip from SDcard' and select the ROM.zip. Then flash any associated .zip's or anything that the ROM maker suggest. Reboot, and you're good to go in a working ROM. You can now go from there.
Remember, when in recovery you need to use the TRACKPAD and BACK BUTTON to navigate the CWM recovery screen. Using the power button / camera button / menu button will just show/hide the menu or turn the screen off. You can scroll and select with the trackpad, and go back with the 'back' button. Only use these 2. Nothing is wrong with your phone, you're just using the wrong damn buttons.
Your phone is so far from bricked its not even funny. Just follow some basic knowledge on how the recovery and ROM manager works and you'll be back to 100%.
thanks alot guys. i was really high so i started getting paranoid about my phone lol BUT THANK YOU SO MUCH
Power Button just shows the wallpaper, trackpad is where you select for our phone

I can not use/install clockworkmod

I am just login,
The question:
Wildfire buzz 2.2.1 Revolutionary S-OFF and rooted with superoneclick
Rom 2.2.1
Kernel 2.6.32.21
Hboot version for s- OFF with Revolutionary, rooted with superoneclick
Tweaks / coustomizations: nothing
Memory card partitions: fat32, ext2, swap
I can not have a working clockworkmod and I can not install zip file from sd card. I tried different ways and I think that something has been wrong.
Rom manager can see CWM 3.0.0.6 and I did a backup from rom manager, with CWM 3.0.0.6; the backup is on sd card inside a folder clockworkmod/backup. But if I tap resume in recovery mode from rom manager, I have a not working CWM 3.0.0.6 menu (whatever line I choose, I’ve a black screen with a hat and I have to remove the phone battery).
If I switch on the phone volume down+power and I go in recovery, I can see a CWM 5.0.2.0 (not working at all, with the same black screen with a hat by choosing any menu option).
It seems there are two CWM installed, the first one working from rom manager but only for backup and anything else.
I’ll be grateful for your help

Because one is from ROM Manager, just like you said.
you will have cwm 5.x because this cwm you have installed. if you want to go into cwm 3.x you have to go to rom manager, at bottom you have option all cwm versions, then you choose cwm 3.0.0.6, and after thas at the top flash cwm. Now you have created file called uptade.zip. Now you enter into cwm, choose apply update form sd, choose update.zip and here you are cmw 3.0.0.6 all philosophy

to make this a bit more complete: you can boot into CWM by ROM Manager to use a different CWM version than the installed one. Sometimes you might need an older version (to flash a radio you'll need CWM 2.5x for example).
If you boot into recovery by ROM Manager this will give you a temporary version (depending what you've chosen).
All new roms are able to start with cwm 3.x but you're right, sometimes we need 2.x recovery to elder roms like joker droid i used it only 2 times m8 almost always i use cwm 3.x
Thanks for your answers
The trackball does not allow to select any CWM item but I can move from an item to another one. If I move in this way after a while I can see at the bottom of the screen “ Back button enabled” and the power button becomes enabled to select regardless I choose an item with the trackball or with the volume button. It may be this is the norm.

not sure if this is a misunderstanding...
In Fastboot (after Fastboot did initially run and check for update files) you choose the menu items with vol up/down and select an item by pressing the power button.
If you go into recovery (by choosing "recovery" with vol up/down and selecting it by pressing power button) you can there choose again with vol up/down or with moving the trackball (not sure if it works in all versions though) - but: you select an item by pressing the trackball (not the power button) - if that doesn't work there's a problem with your trackball - either software or hardware.
The activation of back menu after 3 runs through the menu is intended, though (in case you made a mistake). I seem to remember that I've also read somewhere that you could set the power button for selection in CWM, too, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
I've to scroll down the cwm menu with the trackball and wait for "back menu button enabled", then the power button goes. Perhaps there are some troubles with the phone.
I found this one that can be related perhaps:

[Q] Nexus 4, ClockworkMod how to select menu item

I'm following the instructions on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993331 with Nexus 4; posting here since they won't let me post in that thread.
After step 7, fastboot boot recovery.img, I get into ClockworkMod , and I can see and navigate the items (volume up/down), but hitting the power button does NOT select the item. This device only has 3 buttons, so how do I select an actual item?
Another issue is that if I force reboot it (hold down power for 10s) it gets stuck at the Nexus (big X) logo. Here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34232882&postcount=107
the suggestions solution is to call fastboot boot cwm-recovery-mako.img, but where can I find that img file? Also, how do I "clear cache + dalvik cache"?
At this point my brand new N4 is not really functional, so any kind of help is appreciated!
Thanks a lot!!!
